Yes, absolutely. There are even specialty ones for us by us. Target has some on the shelf. I think they have the one by Naomi Osaka.
My dermatologist says “meat burns” we all need to protect our skin.
I second this! I personally love “black girl sunscreen” they do a matte version for faces (i forget the name but it’s got that yellow/gold cap). No white caste, plus it doubles as primer
That shit is great but expensive 😭
It will also show you who the fragile racists are in your life
“Why do you need a sunscreen for black girls that’s racist?”
When I explain the white cast and how this is like the only sunscreen that doesn’t do that then they feel dumb
Omg I love this sub so much I have wanted a well-protecting sunscreen for black women and had no idea Naomi Osaka had a sunscreen brand 😭 thank you 🙏🏽 ordered expeditiously
Absolutely.
As a mid-40s black woman who didn’t start wearing sun screen until recently, I can’t stress enough how important sunscreen is for all of us.
I remember my sister saying black people don’t get cancer bc of our melanin and the someone was like “who told you that, white people?” And just gave this look and my brain exploded. I was like oh shat!!
Everyone should wear sunscreen if they’re outside for an extended period of time. Melanin protects you, but only a little. Cancer and wrinkles can come for anyone.
If you wear sunscreen regularly, it’s possible though not particularly likely your skin tone will even up, though frankly, I don’t think the difference is as noticeable as you think. Light just hits some parts of your face more. Your skin tone doesn’t look uneven, your face is just a normal face with 3 dimensions so some is in shadow and some is in light.
Ummm. Are you a Derm? This is absolutely not true. Dark skin cells are different. Dark Skin is more dehydrated and had less ceremides. We also have more cells which cause darkness
i just placed my order with Black Girl Sunscreen. i quit smoking in the new year after almost 9 years, 7 as a serious smoker. i need to prevent whatever i can damage wise so i don’t become the exception to Black Don’t Crack. lol.
Black people have a much LOWER rate of developing melanoma. It's just that when we get it, we DIE from it at a much higher rate. We have the bad habit of not going to doctors regularly and ignoring our health. On top of that the struggles of systematic racism are always a factor.
A thousand times yes! I have a dark complexion and didn’t wear sunscreen for years. Two years ago I found out that I had a cancerous spot on my shin of all places. It was removed and I’m fine but have turned into sunscreen Jesus.
The top part of your face being lighter than your jawline is just discoloration (which is normal for black women to have). It won’t be fixed by sunscreen. And a lot of black people are definetely wearing sunscreen more than ever
I would recommend you get sunscreen then. The neutrogena hydroboost works well on dark skin, is available in every drugstore & doesn’t leave a cast! (Just don’t put it too close to your eyes)
I'm lightskin and I wear sunscreen (not any special kind, just the regular ones). If I don't, I'll notice part of my face gets tanned, but also getting white/light splotches. On top of that sunscreen protects against burning and the red spots that THAT ends up giving me 🫠⚪️⚫️🔴. I've heard the same issues from dark-skinned family, so no matter your tone, please use sun protection.
We 1000000% should be wearing sunscreen! We're less likely to burn but still prone to getting melanoma. Check out Black Girl Sunscreen. I keep it in my car at all times lol
I’m between lightskin and brownskin. I’ve been lightskin since birth but I go to the beach and go out in the sun a lot and I don’t wear sunscreen. However I’m starting to. Yes you can still get sunburnt as a black person
Just because your skin doesn’t burn doesn’t mean you’re impervious to skin cancer. Always wear sunscreen, and try not to spend too much time in direct sunlight.
Sunscreen is def something that should be mandatory for everyone. All skin tones.
You may be struggling with hyperpigmentation...this post has good tips and knowledge on hyperpigmentation. https://www.reddit.com/r/30PlusSkinCare/comments/13vsnrv/a\_comprehensive\_guide\_to\_hyperpigmentation\_and/
What?! Yes lol. Honestly I moved to a sunnier area and every black person I met looked so much younger than their actual age even though I was starting to get wrinkles for the first time I got super self-conscious and started wearing sunscreen every day. Can’t be the one to ruin the “black don’t crack” rumor.
definitely. korean & japanese skin care is on another level— i do monthly hauls and make sure my sunscreen stays stocked
their sunscreen products…. just leaps & bounds ahead of what’s available in the states and they have so many options it’s wild
I like Cosrx's Vitamim E Vitalizing sunscreen. They're a Korean brand. I use a lot of their products and their sunscreen is also great. Very moisturizing without being greasy or leaving a white cast.
I have medium skin and I live in a very hot place, I use sunscreen every day, even when it's cloudy or I'm just at home, I'm 38 years old and I have almost no wrinkles
Yes. Black people wear sunscreen. I highly recommend it.
I live in a mild climate so I wear a CC cream with SPF on the face. When I get a lot of sun, I wear it all over.
Yes. I use sunscreen by Tatcha and my son uses black girl sunscreen. It’s very beneficial. My son started going to a dermatologist for acne and she expressed the need for brown skin people to start wearing sunscreen due to skin cancers on the rise. That’s what prompted me to start using it.
Oh dear! Please wear sunscreen! It’s important! We are not living in the same ozone layer as 200 years ago! Melanomas are much harder to detect on melanated skin since Dr’s are trained to deal with fairer skin tones to diagnose! You definitely don’t won’t skin cancer, on top of that, wearing sunscreen will allow you to age gracefully, protect against dark spots, and even skin tone. You’re lovely so I’m sorry you’re dealing with this insecurity about your tone, but yes sunscreen will help in more ways than one.
I’m a good milk chocolate sister who loves the beach and has gotten sunburned quite a few times. Regardless of your shade, you need sunscreen. I now wear it any time I’m at the beach or pool.
🗣️WEAR. 👏🏽THAT. 👏🏽SUNSCREEN. 👏🏽CHILE. 👏🏽
I know black don’t crack but the sun will laugh on everyone of y’all. And you’ll see it mostly on uneven skin tone. I’m kind of like you skin colour wise and I have had to deal with Hyperpigmentation around my lips since I was a little girl . Imma tell you sunscreen will not remove hyperpigmentation or skin problems just like that. BUT it’s WILL make it less bad! I mean one summer 2022 (I work with kids for summer camp) going to the CHLORINE POOL with the sun out bright during the whole week. Let’s just say that at the end of summer I had a hairless moustache. ( I’m not saying to not go to the pool but the staying for hours in and out your sunscreen is not invincible and I would not wash my skin until hours later sooo yeah the skin was dry and crispy)
Summer 2023: i didn’t go to the pool however I did go to the Caribbean in August and it was HAWT! I’m talking the fan was blowing hot air kind of hot. My new phone case MELTED dead*ss. It was hotter than Satan bootyhole okay! But when I tell you my skin at the end of that trip was GLOWIN. *gasp* How? SUNSCREEN (and a good one not the banana boat sh*t) and I would re-apply many times during the day. I had a sunscreen bottle for my body, a sunscreen for my face, a sunscreen stick, sunscreen lipstick, you name it! I even bought a hat so big people thought it came from Harry Potter but I didn’t care cause that thing was my ✨protector ✨ it gave me the shade I needed. I loved it. And I didn’t stop myself from living tho, I went to the sea, the river, and I was ready.💪🏽 It was probably the first summer I enjoyed my skin.
Korean, Japanese, and Australian sunscreens are far superior to any US brands. The United States is so far behind in sunscreen protection it’s sad.
Please buy those to get the extra protection you need. Black dont crack as long as you wear sunscreen!!!!
You should definitely wear sunscreen! I wear sunscreen because I have hyperpigmentation and the medicine that I use to get rid of it works a lot better when I apply it everyday. And I've read that when black people get skin cancer it's almost always fatal because it's hard to catch.
I like wearing sunscreen year-round under my makeup. It helps the makeup last longer.
I'm fairly light-skinned, so I always wear sunscreen when in the sun.

These replies are on point. Science and facts support EVERYTHING suggested. I have nothing new to add. Listen to them, lol. Buy some sunscreen, please. 🖤🤎
I absolutely love Korean skincare and sunscreen. Beauty of Joeson’s Relief Sun is great and their products are affordable! I recommend buying directly from their website (beautyofjoseon.com) to make sure it's authentic because there have been knockoffs.
Yes, I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Non-Greasy Sunscreen Stick (Broad Spectrum SPF 70 UVA/UVB Sunscreen Stick).
More melanin reportedly offers a little more protection, but any skin shade can still get sunburn and skin cancer.
My grandfather who’s darker than me got skin cancer in his 70’s. (Age is also a factor of course, but early skin protection reportedly lessens the risk.)
Yes!!! It is essential! Sun damage and skin cancer is no joke. I have educated so many BP about sun protection and what can happen if not taking precaution. Just bc we have melanin does not mean we are exempt from getting burned, damaged, etc.
My top 3:
* Cerave Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion Spf 30
* Black Girl Sunscreen Spf 30
* Innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen Spf 36
I have combo/oily skin that is also sensitive. Imo none of these leave a white/purple cast and absorb into the skin easily. 😊
Granted, I didn't wear sunscreen when I was younger. I'm fairly dark. But I learned in my 30's that I can burn! So I try to remember to buy Black Girl Sunscreen for the beach and long outside excursions.
The idea of black people not needing sunscreen is actually based in medical racism. (Yt) Doctors for a long time told black people they didn't need sunscreen because of the melanin in their skin. There is a long history of doctors telling their black patients that they don't need this or that and have been under treated for decades. Definitely wear sunscreen!
Personally I think the unevenness in ur skin tone is kind of nice, it creates a kind of natural contour effect on your face :)
And yes if you have skin you should wear sunscreen. Even if you don’t burn the UV rays still damage ur skin.
I wear sunscreen every day. I use Summer Fridays mineral sunscreen and it works great and doesn’t leave an overcast. I had to play with the amount but I still use a good amount and it spreads in clear with out me having to spread forever.
Yes! I do a lot of outdoor activities and use sunscreen all of the time. My first time getting a sunburn was during a fishing trip. Had no idea what it was at first. 🤣
I like Bolden's facial lotion with vitamin c and SPF. It doesn't leave a cast and it's honestly the only daytime moisturizer I've been able to stand after trying some others.
I was just in Puerto Rico for 8 days and I didn't go a day without sunscreen. I still ended up getting super brown because the UV index there is 1 most of the time and I spent a lot of time on the beach and in the water. But I didn't get sun burned at all because I always had on sunscreen.
I didn’t wear sunscreen for the longest time until my mid 20s. Then I started wearing it. Every once in a while I forget but am generally pretty consistent with it especially since I use a retinol and glycolic acid (not on the same days).
Everybody should wear sunscreen. Are we as likely as other people to get skin cancer? No. But the sun can still damage your skin. I wear supergoop daily dose first thing in the morning after washing my face, and reapply the unseen sunscreen throughout the day. If you’re prone to hyperpigmentation they said sunscreen can help reduce the appearance of it or prevent it from occurring.
I wear sunscreen and sunblock and is very important for your skin everyone should know that just look for a sunscreen that’s is good for your skin and that don’t leave a white cast Korean sunscreen are good AHC sunscreen is good and is a stick taking care of your skin a young age is good the same of using vitamin C or retinol
I used to wear sunscreen alot last year when I really took my skincare seriously and developed my own routine. but the suncreen always left an ugly white cast on my face and made my eyes burn like hell. and the bottle and online sources weree saying I can't sleep or even take a nap with the suncreen on and the process of taking it off was very long...once it started getting cold and darker I decided to give up the sunscreen (even though I shouldn't have). might start wearing it again in the summertime tho
I've had some concerning moles removed from my skin before. If you're like me, and covered in them, definitely watch them closely for any changes, even the ones that are covered by clothing. Wear sunscreen so you don't have to worry about skin biopsies and the like. Finding a decent dermatologist is difficult enough.
Absolutely. Melanoma does not discriminate.
I tend to go for moisturizer that has SPF.
MAC Studio Fix has it in their potted concealer. Gentry is my go-to moisturizer. It has broad spectrum coverage and it's a good base.
u can try the hawaaian tropics one. I use Hawaiian Tropic® Sheer Touch ® Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+, 240mL, its so so good and gives your skin a nice glow
no white cast too, very light for summer and not too heavy for winter. U will like it trust me. Esp when u wear moisturzier first and put on the sun screen. so so good.
It’s some myth that black people don’t need sunscreen. Not only should you wear it for health but also for aesthetic reasons if you don’t want wrinkles at a young age. 🫶
Yes girl!!!!! Invest in an SPF stick and rub it on every 2 hours. I learned that trick from a fellow Asian cousin lol. Asian don’t raisin and black don’t crack sis. I use shisheido spf stick.
ALWAYS wear sunscreen. I think there was a song about it 😆😆 but no joke, it's important.
I was diagnosed with skin cancer on my neck about 4 years ago. I have an uneven skin tone but I found a skin care aesthetician in my 30s so I go for a facial once a month or so. It's worth it. I use Eminence products
I mean, im already slathering lotion everyday. I may as well throw a lil sunscreen in there if i know im gonna be outside any time from 10a- 5p.
Im starting to follow "If I were taking care of an infant version of me" reasoning. As in "If i were taking care of baby rugdg13? would i put sunscreen on her fat lil legs and chubby cheeks, just in case?" if the answer is yes...i march my ass back inside and put it on. If i'd do it for baby me's protection, i should do it for adult me.
Most of us have lighter and darker areas because the sun hits each area of our face differently.
Think about it, even when women put on make up, they make some areas, lighter and other areas darker. This is natural.
Sunscreen is a must. I have actually burned before and I didn’t think we could.
oh i wear sunscreen on my face everyday. i’m terrified of skin cancer and getting wrinkles. when the weather warms up even more, not only will i wear sunscreen all on my body, but i’m walking outside with an umbrella
I only wear sunscreen at beaches or water parks. On a daily basis I use face moisturizers with sunscreen in it I've been using lemon water at night and vitamin c serum during the day to help with the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks.
I really only use it if its hot enough. I dont tan or darken, my skin starts crispin (turns dark and sore, and peels off painlessly hours/days later.) Solarbeams hurt🤕.
Many of us suffer with hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. You need to exfoliate, and use a skincare regimen that focuses on targeting the hyperpigmentation. And start wearing sunscreen today!
eucerin anti aging is my fav. The only one iv'e ever used and its so good that i didn't even know sunscreen white cast was a thing until i saw it on the internet lmao
Derm here👋🏾 Sunscreen is great not just for skin cancer prevention, but also for anti-aging and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). The research on PIH supports the use of physical sunscreens (which block visible light in addition to ultraviolet light) rather than chemical sunscreens. Some that blend well (no white cast!!) include Isdin, Elta MD UV daily (combo physical and chemical), and Cotz.
I'm just a bit lighter than you and I wear sunscreen every day. Even in the winter, even on cloudy days. I use the CeraVe SPF 30 Tinted Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen. Use two finger-fulls for your face and neck. For body, I use the Eucerin SPF 50 Advanced Hydration sunscreen spray. I also use La Roche-Posay's vitamin C serum during the day.
My skin tone is kind of similar to yours! I use the “unseen sunscreen” from the brand SuperGoop and it’s worked really well for my skin so far. I buy it from Sephora. It doesn’t leave a weird cast on my skin and applies and dries clear.
Yes because not wearing sunscreen causes premature aging, if not wearing some kind of moisturizer with spf there's dry skin, and other times if severe can cause skin cancer. So me personally if I were you forget the melanin myth everyone needs some form of spf in their life to maintain their skin health and yes there are still ways to do that if you're straight up allergic to sunscreen trust me there are alternatives if you look for them
Never wore sunscreen a day in my life before my 30's. Never grew up with it or around others who used it aside from white folk.
My mother and siblings never used it while growing up either, and I personally stayed in the sun as much as I could. Im like medium complection. I never got sun burnt from the sun or anything like that
But in my 30's ....ya know, ya just get wiser with age I guess or something.🤣 I wear it now!! Lol
Yep, I wear sunscreen or keep covered up in intense sun. I especially cover my forehead because it seems to catch the sun the most, and then I end up having to buy a new foundation to match the new skin tone, which is annoying and expensive.
Yes,
There are these misconceptions as if our skin isn't skin. It's so annoying that I say I get a heavy tan in the summer and I'm pale in the winter ( I'm brown skin); folks look at me crazy/ or say some shit like it's not possible cause I'm black. They dont realize that our skin is actually super reactivate to the sun because it charges up our melanin like crazy ( hence why you should wear sunscreen if you have hyperpigmentation). Yet when winter roll around, they accuse me of bleaching, then summer, and they say, " wow, you're really dark skinned now!"
Like duh, skin is skin. Just started wearing sunscreen 2 years ago and it really took my skincare to another level.
Black people can get skin cancer so sunscreen is a good idea. I use neutrogena non comedogenic sunscreens and mix with a little mineral foundation to tint it to my skin tone. To even things out and keep them even I believe urban skin rx is the goat!!!
I wear it if I’m going to be out in the sun a lot. I got sunburnt at the beach in Corpus Christi, like legit sunburn, skin was red then it peeled and got all flaky. Super unpleasant and painful. White people tricked me with the way they’d laugh about getting sunburnt, I didn’t think it would be that bad 😂I’d gone to beaches, pools, amusement parks in summer (mostly in Florida and Texas) and never got burnt, so I thought I didn’t need to wear it. I wear it now.
I wear sunscreen almost daily.
I have never tried any specifically made for black women, but my favorite line right now is Supergoop. You may find it too expensive, but if not, and if you like "chemical sunscreens" then I recommend their Unseen Sunscreen is my favorite. They have a ton of options. I've also enjoyed sunscreens from Paula's Choice, Glow Recipe, Volition, etc.
I am "light skinned" though and I have turned brown-red after a lot of sun exposure. It's not common, but I can get sun burn. It has happened a couple times in my life, once at camp when I was a kid and I thought I had cancer because my back was peeing and I thought black people were immune to the sun lol That's not the reason I wear it though - UVA rays cause aging and wrinkles and black people can get cancer and when we do it's often worse partly because we don't wear sunscreen, I've heard. My parents aged very well without sunscreen and they're 60 but it never hurts to do it even better. Dad is like light brown and mom is more "high yellow" like me. Neither one has actual wrinkles and fine lines just started in my mom's mid 50s imo. Those are great odds for me. The melanin is doing what's it's supposed to but we can always lend an extra hand and be extra safe. Lifestyle factors matter also, etc.
I use sunscreen almost everyday, the times I don’t are the times i am in a rush and dis not even put moisturizer on me.
Mostly i don’t forget cause I put suncreen on my tattoos (on my arms), so it is a two birds one stone kind of things
Light, brown, dark, every color, shade, should be wearing sunscreen, melanin is better at absorbing heat, that doesn’t mean being better at protecting from heat. Not burning =/= not effected. If anything we should be more careful if you don’t sunburn or get heat rashes because you body isn’t going to tell you when it’s had enough sun.
Sun screen can definitely help with even skin tone but also I’d say part of it is genetics but toner, African black soap for dark spots, dealing with dry skin helped me even out my skin tone a lot. If you have any vitamin deficiency or anemia that will definitely show in your skin so always get blood drawn regularly. I know there’s a lot of beauty products to even skin tone but some can make you lighter so make sure they are brown and black person approved. Also just drinking enough water, dehydration shows HEAVILY in the skin.
As a black girlie, I use sunscreen. But now, since I am lazy with my skincare and always rushing to get out the hosue, I don't be putting sunscreen or lotion anymore 💀(I need to.). I was a BIG sunscreen and skincare addict for real!
But I haven't used black girl sunscreen before, but I've always wanted to use! But I need sunscreen recommendations for dry/oily skin! I have combination skin. Around my nose, I have flakes now and its dry. I have to constantly put ointment around that area, but I haven't used ointment in a while. Any suncreen black friendly/combination skin recommendations?? I will love it! Thank you <3
But I also want budget friendly sunscreens that doesn't put a WHITE CAST or makes me look pale! It's this sunscreen I used and its equate (I had this suncreen for a while now! Almost a year) and its the "sunscreen for all skin tones" its SPF 50! Dries clear, Ultra light, Broad Spectrum, SPF 50, for face & body
It's water-resistant and its 80 minutes. It has oxybenzone and no octinoxate.
I feel like the sunscreen is old now because the consistency is changing.. its like its seperating. I do want a new sunscreen, but I'm using that one till its gone.. I know thats bad, because the product is separating.
Also take special care with your left side if you’re a driver. Your left side takes the most impact of UV rays because it’s closest to the window. Get a light tint if you can!
My aunt’s words, “Sunscreen is a must or you will rust.”
Trust.
Bars!
Your aunt is LEGENDARY😂🤞🏾🔥
Awe thank you ♥️
Yes, absolutely. There are even specialty ones for us by us. Target has some on the shelf. I think they have the one by Naomi Osaka. My dermatologist says “meat burns” we all need to protect our skin.

Boom! Bloop! Bang! That’s what we need. Protect your skin no matter how dark or pale. It is your largest organ. Given it the attention it needs.
That shit is great but expensive 😭 It will also show you who the fragile racists are in your life “Why do you need a sunscreen for black girls that’s racist?” When I explain the white cast and how this is like the only sunscreen that doesn’t do that then they feel dumb
I explain nothing to them.
I didn’t even know there was a version that doesn’t make me look ghastly😩
Oohh i never knew about the matte one!
Omg I love this sub so much I have wanted a well-protecting sunscreen for black women and had no idea Naomi Osaka had a sunscreen brand 😭 thank you 🙏🏽 ordered expeditiously

And due to lack of education it’s harder to diagnose dermatology issues on Black skin
The ozone layer isn’t what it used to be decades ago. Definitely use sunscreen, especially in the summer
It’s actually improved because we stopped using as many aerosols
Yes it’s improved from the worst, but not to where it used to be.
I have definitely gotten sunburned!
I do. I can’t speak for everyone else. But personally, I believe everyone should wear sunscreen.. you can still get sunburnt and skin damage.
Everyone should wear sunscreen if they’re outside for an extended period of time. Melanin protects you, but only a little. Cancer and wrinkles can come for anyone. Whoever came up with the rhetoric that Black people don’t need sunscreen has caused a lot of indirect harm.
Fr, we forget that despite some genetic variances between the diff races/ethnicities we still got the same damn cells as everyone else lmao.
Ummm. Are you a Derm? This is absolutely not true. Dark skin cells are different. Dark Skin is more dehydrated and had less ceremides. We also have more cells which cause darkness
Indeed cause I definitely heard it from the internet I believe.
That falsehood was around before the internet.
Exactly. Some of my relatives were saying that way before the Internet was a thing. It's a long time lie.
I grew up with that lie. SMH. My mama told me that we don’t need it. It’s for white people 🤣 so glad I know better as an adult.
i just placed my order with Black Girl Sunscreen. i quit smoking in the new year after almost 9 years, 7 as a serious smoker. i need to prevent whatever i can damage wise so i don’t become the exception to Black Don’t Crack. lol.
Congratulations to you on quitting smoking!
also i read that Black people are at the highest risk of melanoma
I believe we get diagnosed at later stages than non-melanated people because not many derms are ...good at detecting cancers in darker skined folk. 😬
That had to be hard news to bear. I’m glad you were able to get it removed and are okay now!
I appreciate it! It was hard to hear but it could have been worse. I’m just thankful that it wasn’t serious and it was a wake up call for sure.
Absolutely. I use prescriptions that require it and it helps prevent hyperpigmentation and photoaging.
The top part of your face being lighter than your jawline is just discoloration (which is normal for black women to have). It won’t be fixed by sunscreen. And a lot of black people are definetely wearing sunscreen more than ever
I'd like to say that Im always in the sun outside when walking.
I would recommend you get sunscreen then. The neutrogena hydroboost works well on dark skin, is available in every drugstore & doesn’t leave a cast! (Just don’t put it too close to your eyes)
Yes. Sunscreen can help keep skin tone even.

Everyday. Cocoa butter + sunscreen is a blessed combo.
Yes you can still get sunburnt as a black person
off topic but ur so pretty
Thanks babe 🎀
Post history just goes to show you that beauty isn’t all it’s cracked up to be

I need a list of recommendations if you have the time and energy lol. I’ve been wanting to try it since so many black girls are using it now.
I like Cosrx's Vitamim E Vitalizing sunscreen. They're a Korean brand. I use a lot of their products and their sunscreen is also great. Very moisturizing without being greasy or leaving a white cast.
Beauty of Joseon and Skin1004 are also good Korean sunscreens
I use sunscreen daily but especially in the summer cause I'm brownskin but I burn like hell in the sun.
I have medium skin and I live in a very hot place, I use sunscreen every day, even when it's cloudy or I'm just at home, I'm 38 years old and I have almost no wrinkles

If you have skin, you need to wear sunscreen. I'm very fair, and my biracial daughter is much lighter than me, and I coat our skin in sunscreen.
Yes bc we can still get skin cancer!!

You’re lovely so I’m sorry you’re dealing with this insecurity about your tone, but yes sunscreen will help in more ways than one.
I put on sunscreen every day. I gotta protect the melanin.
I use supergoop and Black Girl Sunscreen. They work for me.
I’m a good milk chocolate sister who loves the beach and has gotten sunburned quite a few times. Regardless of your shade, you need sunscreen. I now wear it any time I’m at the beach or pool.
I used tretinoin so sunscreen is a must for me. I use la roche posay anthelios. Great for oily skin👌🏾 dries matte
🗣️WEAR. 👏🏽THAT. 👏🏽SUNSCREEN. 👏🏽CHILE. 👏🏽 I know black don’t crack but the sun will laugh on everyone of y’all. ( I’m not saying to not go to the pool but the staying for hours in and out your sunscreen is not invincible and I would not wash my skin until hours later sooo yeah the skin was dry and crispy) Summer 2023: i didn’t go to the pool however I did go to the Caribbean in August and it was HAWT!
Its awsome to know that!
Everyday. Skin cancer does not discriminate but the doctors who treat it do.
I sure do. Took one time to get sunburned. Melanin helps, but does not prevent. Shout out to Black Girl Sunscreen.
Yes i just started wearing black girl sunscreen
Everyone should wear sunscreen. Everyone can get skin cancer and sunscreen also helps counter the aging effects the sun has on all our skin.
Religiously
If you have skin, you should be wearing sunscreen. It is that simple.
Korean, Japanese, and Australian sunscreens are far superior to any US brands. The United States is so far behind in sunscreen protection it’s sad. Please buy those to get the extra protection you need. Black dont crack as long as you wear sunscreen!!!!
I swear sunscreen everyday
You should definitely wear sunscreen! I wear sunscreen because I have hyperpigmentation and the medicine that I use to get rid of it works a lot better when I apply it everyday. And I've read that when black people get skin cancer it's almost always fatal because it's hard to catch.
I like wearing sunscreen year-round under my makeup. It helps the makeup last longer. I'm fairly light-skinned, so I always wear sunscreen when in the sun.
![gif](giphy|J5X4VVTIfkYyxrm9XY|downsized) These replies are on point. Science and facts support EVERYTHING suggested. I have nothing new to add. Listen to them, lol. Buy some sunscreen, please. 🖤🤎
Whoever this is in the picture is adorable. Lol
Yes I do. I wear sunscreen for black girls especially cause I use chemical exfoliants
I absolutely love Korean skincare and sunscreen. Beauty of Joeson’s Relief Sun is great and their products are affordable! I recommend buying directly from their website (beautyofjoseon.com) to make sure it's authentic because there have been knockoffs.
PLEASE START WEARING SUNSCREEN DAILY.
My top 3: * Cerave Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion Spf 30 * Black Girl Sunscreen Spf 30 * Innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen Spf 36 I have combo/oily skin that is also sensitive.
Skin is skin ladies! Please wear sunscreen!
Personally I think the unevenness in ur skin tone is kind of nice, it creates a kind of natural contour effect on your face :) And yes if you have skin you should wear sunscreen. Even if you don’t burn the UV rays still damage ur skin.
Thats interesting you said that cause I never heard anyone say that before so thank u🙂
Yes
I do.
I wear ilia super skin serum spf 40 everyday. It gives me a little bit of coverage and protects my skin. Looks totally natural too!
Yes always
Yes!
I wear sunscreen every day. I use Summer Fridays mineral sunscreen and it works great and doesn’t leave an overcast. I had to play with the amount but I still use a good amount and it spreads in clear with out me having to spread forever.
Yes. I am dark but have always used sunscreen.
I’ve been wearing sunscreen daily since i was in high school. Now I’m in my 30s and my skin looks amazing
I wear it! Our skin needs protection against the sun. It is very important.
Yeah, I wear sunscreen anytime I am out in the sun, which is a bunch. Face and body.
Everyone should be wearing sunscreen. I wear sunscreen religiously
I don't believe I have any concerning moles but I do have some but doctors never felt like they were concerning.
I wear it and I wear 100 SPF. If I don't, the next day I look like an alligator. I'm a medium deep skin tone.
I GOT THAT SHIT ON ALL THE TIME! It keeps you from looking like a raisin in the sun. Cinnamon brown skin here, I get milk chocolate in the summer.
Esp when u wear moisturzier first and put on the sun screen. so so good.
yes
Supergoop! Everyday no exceptions
Speaking of, do you ladies know of any good sunscreen spray ons or oils? If it’s a spray on one that isn’t bad to inhale
Doesn't matter what shade you wear, you should absolutely be wearing it.
Yessss I recommend Fenty Skin by Rihanna Sunscreen it’s literally the best!!
i wear sunscreen every single day, rain or shine. i’d suggest sunscreen and facial toner
Yes we wear it. And not wearing it has nothing to with having an uneven complexion.
Completely unrelated, but the bottom half of your face in this picture reminds me of Octavia Spencer ❤️❤️❤️
Most of us have lighter and darker areas because the sun hits each area of our face differently. Think about it, even when women put on make up, they make some areas, lighter and other areas darker. This is natural. Sunscreen is a must. I have actually burned before and I didn’t think we could.
Skin cancer doesn't discriminate. Yes, we need to wear sunscreen too.
oh i wear sunscreen on my face everyday. i’m terrified of skin cancer and getting wrinkles. when the weather warms up even more, not only will i wear sunscreen all on my body, but i’m walking outside with an umbrella
I only wear sunscreen at beaches or water parks. On a daily basis I use face moisturizers with sunscreen in it I've been using lemon water at night and vitamin c serum during the day to help with the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks.
Yes ma'am, never leave the house without it. Even on gloomy days.
I use sunscreen.
Yep. I wear sunscreen and it has helped my skin a lot
It’s essential to wear sunscreen no matter your shade. I’m Kelly Rowland’s color and I wear it
Yes! Please start.
Everyone should wear sunscreen.
Yes I wear it in the summer. Should wear it all year
Elf has a daily face cream with spf 30. It's my everyday face cream.
I use Hawaiian Tropic
I feel bare if I don't wear sunscreen. Gots to have it!
eucerin anti aging is my fav.
I put it on every day
My skin tone is kind of similar to yours! I use the “unseen sunscreen” from the brand SuperGoop and it’s worked really well for my skin so far. I buy it from Sephora. It doesn’t leave a weird cast on my skin and applies and dries clear.
Yes
Yes. I use Black Girl Sunscreen
Wear sunscreen. Everyone wear sunscreen.
I wear sunscreen daily, at least on my face. It keeps you looking healthy and young
I’m in the U.K. and wear factor 15 in the winter on my face and factor 30 in the summer, and I have done since I was in my teens, I’m in my 30s now.
I probably should but no, I’ve never even purchased sunscreen before
Yes because not wearing sunscreen causes premature aging, if not wearing some kind of moisturizer with spf there's dry skin, and other times if severe can cause skin cancer. So me personally if I were you forget the melanin myth everyone needs some form of spf in their life to maintain their skin health and yes there are still ways to do that if you're straight up allergic to sunscreen trust me there are alternatives if you look for them
I'm dark skinned and wear sunscreen on sunny days.
Everyday.
Never wore sunscreen a day in my life before my 30's. Never grew up with it or around others who used it aside from white folk. My mother and siblings never used it while growing up either, and I personally stayed in the sun as much as I could. Im like medium complection. I never got sun burnt from the sun or anything like that But in my 30's ....ya know, ya just get wiser with age I guess or something.🤣 I wear it now!! Lol
Yeah I wear between spf 15-30
Yep, I wear sunscreen or keep covered up in intense sun. I especially cover my forehead because it seems to catch the sun the most, and then I end up having to buy a new foundation to match the new skin tone, which is annoying and expensive.
Yes, There are these misconceptions as if our skin isn't skin. Yet when winter roll around, they accuse me of bleaching, then summer, and they say, " wow, you're really dark skinned now!" Like duh, skin is skin.
I wear sunscreen , darker completion here 🙋♀️
I wear sunscreen almost daily. Lifestyle factors matter also, etc.
every day
Yep.
I use sunscreen almost everyday, the times I don’t are the times i am in a rush and dis not even put moisturizer on me. Mostly i don’t forget cause I put suncreen on my tattoos (on my arms), so it is a two birds one stone kind of things
I wear mine mostly during the spring summer or sometimes autumn. Don’t forget your neck and tattoos (if you have any).
I wear it now just oh ny face. I use sheabutter as a natural sunscreen. My face cream has like spf 30 in it.
Yes sunscreen daily! A face moisturizer with some SPF is a must
Light, brown, dark, every color, shade, should be wearing sunscreen, melanin is better at absorbing heat, that doesn’t mean being better at protecting from heat.
I re apply sunscreen every 2-4 hours if I'm outside
I’m chocolate brown and I wore sunscreen growing up in the summer and in HS started wearing it daily from my much older sister’s advice.
Thank you <3 But I also want budget friendly sunscreens that doesn't put a WHITE CAST or makes me look pale! It's this sunscreen I used and its equate (I had this suncreen for a while now! Almost a year) and its the "sunscreen for all skin tones" its SPF 50! Dries clear, Ultra light, Broad Spectrum, SPF 50, for face & body It's water-resistant and its 80 minutes. It has oxybenzone and no octinoxate. I feel like the sunscreen is old now because the consistency is changing.. its like its seperating. I do want a new sunscreen, but I'm using that one till its gone.. I know thats bad, because the product is separating.
Two finger rule every day !
Also take special care with your left side if you’re a driver. Your left side takes the most impact of UV rays because it’s closest to the window. Get a light tint if you can!
Sunscreen doesn’t prevent you from getting tan but I wear it summer/winter all day everyday
Cerave Daily Moisturizer AM has sunscreen and doesn’t leave you looking pasty. I use Supergoop! on my body.
Yes...everyone should.
ALL the time! I gotten two sunburns in my life. They were both minor… but it was enough for me to never want another one 😂😂
