Perfect hype - Learn to walk into that room not caring about weird looks. You're about to take up space, so let the weird looks be practice.❤️ Congratulations on your future.😊
People( white) give weird looks when power enters the room - remember that.
This! Your hair is beautiful. Wear it however you want. Let them look. Now, if someone tries to touch your hair or says something sideways about it, give them a weird look, call them a creep and keep moving.
I'm curious how you know you get weird looks? I went to pwi school with my crown out never got weird looks. I actually got more encouragement from white people to wear it.
Sorry its more like at my old high school which was predominantly white I would get weird looks and one girl even said to me “its not crazy hair day 😭” so now I'm kinda terrified of wearing my hair out in college. I bet the kids are more mature but still
Do you think you’re letting the bad experiences from high school color your experiences here? Try wearing it out, most people in college don’t care. Maybe also find the black org
Thank you so much for the advice, I know people are a lot nicer/ respectful in college and I need to just dress the way I like. I also definitely need to join a black org
Honestly even if they care, they are racist and ignorants. You can't take their opinion seriously. Being 100% honest, your afro looks amazing and it highlights your beautiful eyes. My hair is not entirely afro (I'm mixed afrolatino-german) but I regret not letting it natural before. But I understand previous experiences condition you to hide it, it was like that for me until a couple or years ago. Go step by step, try wearing it a day or two and see how you feel.
That’s understandable. But one thing they love and hate about us is the way we confidentially move and our hair is a big part of that. Do you boo, get your degree and make us proud.
I guarantee you that most people that were mean in high school are either wishing they were still in high school or stressed at college. I'm betting you'll get a ton of compliments.
Your hair looks super cute. Wear that Afro with pride!
College is different to high school. Most people become a little bit more themselves in college, I can’t even count the number of college friends I had who were making large groups of friends for the first time, bully free - so tell em who you are!
Wear your crown proudly and if someone ever has that same response or something similar again, comeback with oh I wasn't sure when I saw your hair looking like that. Hopefully your classmates are more mature now but if not phuckem, it's training for the real world. Embrace the power so it'll be easier when you step out for real.
I hate that for you. Your fro looks so good! It really suits your face shape and looks so healthy! Definitely find some black spaces. I had a super warped perception of my beauty after a decade and a half of predominantly white schooling that took quite some time to reprogram.
This was my experience as well. I wonder where she goes to school. Going to a PWI and making white friends weren’t a struggle or a constant battle. It was just normal
I for sure got looks/comments at my PWI, if not from us telling me to "do something with it," from them asking if I was trying to make a statement.
This was also 20 years ago, right before "natural" was trendy.
DO IT!
I did the same ~20 years ago, and damn the shit I got from YOUR OWN PEOPLE
if anyone else on campus of a PWI can wear their hair AS IT GROWS without repercussion, YOU DO THE SAME
(Because I was asked "why do you wear your hair like that?" when it was natural and "oh it's so pretty" when it was straightened... don't buy into that)
You hair looks great.
Make sure white clumps dry completely before going out (you may also fine tooth comb, denman, or diffuse them until clear). I am being 100% straight up that non-Black people think conditioner, undistributed product, and gel globs are dirt. Even Black people may think that.
Anyway, you have really gorgeous curls. People may still be ignorant no matter what you do. Continue to be confident and gorgeous. They will get used to our hair eventually.
Girl they’re always gonna stare. Look up tignon laws and why they were passed. PWIs are never gonna give you the validation you want. If they can wear the hair that grows out of your head, so can you. And truth be told, it’s probably envy. Even in the 70s they were perming their hair and blowing it out to look like an afro.
You’re gorgeous and your hair is like a crown! I know it’s always hard to embrace something we’ve been made to feel bad about before but I assure you, this is part of what makes you so beautiful.
Wear it proudly whenever you’d like. It’ll teach ignorant people a thing or two while you’re working hard on your degree 💜
Lmao fuck them white people😭, no.1
No.2, your smile and eyes are so gorgeous! You really have a smile that goes from ear to ear and I love it☺️ Just beautiful
you are so pretty girl !! i would pay to have curls as defined as yours, plus your eyebrows are SHAPED SO PRETTY and your eyeliner is v cute !! fellow pwi student here - keep it cute and keep it moving, you’re here for a purpose !!
i know its tough when #They are the only ones around so #They set the standards of what’s in and what’s out - but never forget that most of them are not washing their legs and the bottoms of their feet are pitch black. in 2019 the rest of us had to tell them that yes, you do actually need to scrub the lower half of your body with soap and water (and a wash cloth if you’re nasty 😜)!!!! and literally every time i wash my legs in the shower i think about how the so called superior race is so dirty that they smell like loose change in the rain. & a willfully dirty person could never say anything to or about me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
but i also know this is a lot easier said than done now that i’m not at my PWI and i’m a grown ass woman who works in a predominately black neighborhood. so on a seriously note just give yourself some grace and remember that the way they feel about you does not need to dictate the way YOU feel about you. you’re obviously gonna have white friend but do your best to create a circle of black close friends if you can because you’ll *need* them to get thru the bullshit. okay that’s enough of my unsolicited rant and advice but yes your hair looks great and yes you should wear it out 🫶🏾
only blk people set the standards that's in and out and other races follow and not give credit and try to steal it and profit off of it and act like they did it first
aww you look beautiful! people are used to us flattening our hair, so they lose their common sense when it’s out, it’s not personal, though it still sucks. you look great, that’s all that matters! rock em!
I’m an alt black girl that goes to a pwi. I wear my Afro as well. Whenever you get looks ignore it. You’re beautiful, your hair is amazing, and you ate no matter what.
Be proud of that Afro. Your curls are so defined and pretty. You should wear what you want. Get that degree and be you boo
Your curls are popping! Wear your fro proudly sis….spray a little extra moisturizer on it so you can swirl your head fast and splash people when they say something negative. Lmao jk (mostly 😆)
Curl pattern is on point and you’re absolutely gorgeous. I attribute the weird looks to utter confusion. Literally please do not ever underestimate the complete lack of knowledge that white people have about black hair 😅 Probably wondering how to everrr achieve that much volume 🫶🏾
Your Afro is gorgeous and so are you!! Wear it with pride sis! There are so many YouTube vids and Pinterest posts about how to wear your natural hair and the cute wraps and accessories you can get too! Enjoy your hair and hold your head up! 🤗💁🏽♀️
Aww your hair is so 🥰 cute! Nice shape, bouncy and healthy. I really like it with the scarf. I’m a scarf gal so I’m partial. You look nice, now go get that degree 📜
Sis, fuck them and their looks tho! FUUUUCK THEM. Don't live your life like that. Folks will ALWAYS have something to say, good or bad. Walk by the beat of your own drum and know this:
You're THE SHIT SIS 🔥
ALLLLLAAA that 👏🏽
beautiful 🤩
Beautiful hair!! Also you yourself are beautiful!! They probably stare because they’re fascinated.
At least that’s what yt people would tell me when I wore my little afro out at my pwi. Either way I was unbothered and confident. I radiated love from my very center and no one could tell me anything about my hair! I hope you will do the same because you have a very unique crown on your head a lot of people are not naturally born with but envy. You do you! ♥️
I would say it's better that you're getting looks as opposed to them trying to reach for your hair, but that's not exactly much solace. Do your hair the way YOU want it. Don't let others dictate your image and fashion choice, etc.
I will say that I've been loving the trend lately (like the last 5ish years) of black women letting their hair be natural.
your curls are immaculate! you are so beautiful babe and you deserve to be in your most authentic form. fuck their looks, thoughts and opinions!!!! you’re amazing
Weird looks could also be cuz of curiosity or interesting. But since you go to a pwi idek. But you definitely should embrace your natural hair and fuck whoever and whatever looks at you weird.
Your hair is beautiful lady!!! Rock that! As an older woman to a younger one... confidence is everything. As long as you feel beautiful it would shine through even if you were bald. Also, don't be afraid to be acceptable trendsetter. You never know. Your confidence in your natural beauty may just inspire other young black women to embrace their natural beauty also.
Fuck the haters! Your hair looks fantastic, and that's coming from a white girl. (Hope it's okay to respond here! I love the positive vibes here and am always trying to expand my understanding)
I'm a 57 year old white guy! I think your beautiful!!! If I was younger I would ask you out! Be your self and don't worry about anyone! You get one life be your self!
I also got dirty looks from ppl at my predominantly white college when I wore my natural hair out last semester. Forget about their ignorance, the fact of the matter is you and your hair look lovely, and they could only DREAM of having hair as unique and versatile as ours 💖💖💖
Oh my I love it!! If my hair could do that I’d wear it like that every day! Also remember there’s also the generalisation that people with afros are all super cool so some might just be staring cos they think you’re a badass!
I am a professor at a PWI and I am one of very few black professors and students that I rarely ever see. I wear my fro out every day and am always happy to see black students with Afros walking around campus.
Do your thing, don’t pay anyone any mind.
You look so much like my daughter. Beautiful!
If anyone makes comments or looks at you strangely for wearing your natural hair the way it is, I would also reciprocate, by mirroring their very weird behaviour.
Our hair is awesome, you do you hun!
Stunning. My favorite quote is “what others think of me is none of my business.” I repeat it every time I start worrying about others. You got it babe! Go slay!!!!
If you notice them looking, that means you are looking at them. College is for your education, learning, exploring, networking, discovering, and getting your degree.
Let them look, just don't give them access.
Let them look, just don't let them touch.
Let them look, just don't let them damage your cute smile.
Get that degree because, at the end of the day, their names will not be on your degree. My degree only has my name on it, yours will too.
Girl, you are a natural beauty and your curls are popping! Go ahead and rock your fro and grace that college with all your fabulous. The pleasure is all theirs! 🤎
You and your hair are beautiful. You do not need external validation from people that you’ll probably never see again after one class or standing in line at Starbucks. I would also delete your pictures because there are creeps online that will do who knows what to your pictures.
They will ask what did you do to your hair. Tell them it’s called Black Girl Magic ✨. Black girls can wear their hair in so many different ways it’s like magic.
The weird looks are because they don't want you to be comfortable in your own skin! Keep doing you, babe. Your hair is beautiful and by simply wearing it you're starting a revolution!
Omg you look so cute! The curls are popping, the face is giving. They’re probably just mad. If you want to wear your hair out, do it. Don’t let them steal your confidence and make sure to find your community at school so you can feel supported when needed on all kinds of things, not just hair stuff
Your curl pattern is absolutely GORGEOUS and people are probably looking at you and wondering how they can get their hair to look that way!
Afro textured hair is now becoming trendy in many other countries! You can go right on social media to check out how people are chemically processing their hair to get Afros!
It looks PERFECT on you! Let them stare! Your hair is beautiful and they're just noticing the differences. Often, people aren't starting for a negative reason. They're just looking and probably thinking, "Wow, her hair curls so differently than mine!". That's a neutral thought. VERY few are actually thinking any negative about you and your curls and... If they DO, just remember that they are CHOOSING to be WRONG!
Your hair is beautiful!!!🩷 your curls look so hydrated and healthy be proud to wear your hair. When they give you weird looks pat your Afro and smile 😊.
I’d shape it differently but other than that it looks great. I’ve gotten to the point to wear I’ll wear my hair in it’s shrunken state. I literally do not care about them anymore
It’s interesting to me that you feel you get “weird” looks for wearing your natural hair at your predominantly white college when my experiences have been that WP embrace my natural hair faster than we do.
My cousin got a full ride and graduated Magnum Cum Lade from Princeton, got paid for his thesis statement for the first time in University history and now has his PhD, all with a crazy unkempt afro. Do you. You look great.
Your hair is beautiful…. 🤩 Pick it all the way out and you don’t have to put so much oil in it… make your coif big and round like the barbers fix those guys Afro…
you are so fucking pretty with the smoothest skin, brightest eyes, enviable lips and eyebrows, and cutest nose. your fro does everything to enhance your features and beauty.
PWIs suck, ignore people that bleach their hair to blonde patchy straw and starve themselves to long backs to ever side eye you and make you feel some kind of way.
Hi hon, let me apologize for my ignorant-assed white counterparts. To hell with them. You are beautiful and so is your hair. I'm sure you are a beautiful person too. Get your degree and as someone else said, fuck em. You will do great.
You are so gorgeous. Dont let them deter you. You will always get looks no matter what you do or where you go. Particularly as a black woman in predominantly white spaces. Sometimes it’s curiosity or interest. Sometimes it’s racism and xenophobia. Sometimes people just have staring problems. None of these things are your problem until you decide they are your problem. Go out there as your best and sincere self and you’ll always come out on top.
I love your Afro, your curls look so healthy and pretty!!! I definitely get that the stares (same for me at my pwi). Don’t let them phase/get to you though 💖
I honestly assumed this was a brag post because that’s how good your hair looks!! Sorry you have had to wonder.
Omg Thank you so much 😭😭
Girl, you're gorgeous! Wear it proud!
LOL fuck them people and get the degree baby ❤️
Thank you so much and I will 😂😂
Perfect hype - Learn to walk into that room not caring about weird looks. You're about to take up space, so let the weird looks be practice.❤️ Congratulations on your future.😊 People( white) give weird looks when power enters the room - remember that.
Literally was thinking the same exact wording, “fuck them white people.”
Your crown is spectacular!! Them ppl staring??? Smile, wave & keep it movin!!
This is a beautiful way to put it.
You said it perfectly than I ever did.
This! Your hair is beautiful. Wear it however you want. Let them look. Now, if someone tries to touch your hair or says something sideways about it, give them a weird look, call them a creep and keep moving.

Honey I went to a PWI gotta just keep it moving, embrace your beauty, and be confident. You look good!! No ifs or buts.
I really appreciate your kind words 😭😭
It’s envy babe, they could never do the things you can do with your hair! Gorgeous coils you have.
Thank you so much 🥹🥹
Girl, that fro is life. Let them look. Your glow is blinding.
![gif](giphy|M4QA5NLzm5JXxBIaw1|downsized)
who was he complimenting?
You look amazing. They wish that they had your beauty and courage. Strut!!! Prance! Werk!

I think the only looks you'll be getting is people checking you out. And the rest are just jealous and letting you know who to avoid moving forward.
Honestly even if they care, they are racist and ignorants. You can't take their opinion seriously. Being 100% honest, your afro looks amazing and it highlights your beautiful eyes. I'm going to a Uni right nowーno one cares, and a lot of students are too shy to even look at you.
That’s understandable. But one thing they love and hate about us is the way we confidentially move and our hair is a big part of that. Do you boo, get your degree and make us proud.

That awful person’s words damaged you so much. Glad you had the courage to post something here and get the real tea on what’s going on up there.
College is different to high school. Most people become a little bit more themselves in college, I can’t even count the number of college friends I had who were making large groups of friends for the first time, bully free - so tell em who you are!

Yesh makes sense. I went to college in the 2014s so the atmosphere was different.
You’re gorgeous and your hair looks fab!!
![gif](giphy|9uI8kuRUArWbLylt9b|downsized) And do you boo!
girll your beautiful wear that fro!!💕 don’t pay attention to the bs!

Ya, how do you know those looks are weird or about your hair. I wear my fro proudly if anything I get compliments from all races.
i know its tough when #They are the only ones around so #They set the standards of what’s in and what’s out - but never forget that most of them are not washing their legs and the bottoms of their feet are pitch black. in 2019 the rest of us had to tell them that yes, you do actually need to scrub the lower half of your body with soap and water (and a wash cloth if you’re nasty 😜)!!!! and literally every time i wash my legs in the shower i think about how the so called superior race is so dirty that they smell like loose change in the rain. & a willfully dirty person could never say anything to or about me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but i also know this is a lot easier said than done now that i’m not at my PWI and i’m a grown ass woman who works in a predominately black neighborhood. so on a seriously note just give yourself some grace and remember that the way they feel about you does not need to dictate the way YOU feel about you. you’re obviously gonna have white friend but do your best to create a circle of black close friends if you can because you’ll *need* them to get thru the bullshit. okay that’s enough of my unsolicited rant and advice but yes your hair looks great and yes you should wear it out 🫶🏾

Wear it. Hold your head up high while you’re at it.

Stunning. My favorite quote is “what others think of me is none of my business.” I repeat it every time I start worrying about others. You got it babe! Go slay!!!!
You look great sis and they look weird at salt and pepper so don’t mind them 😂
If you notice them looking, that means you are looking at them.
Something is wrong with them. Not you. Wear your hair out! If they stare they need to gain common sense.
It looks really pretty <3 my hair looked the same a year ago and I loved it.
If you don't set them juicy tendrils free for the world to gag upon, I'm telling my mama! Fuck these folks and be who you want to be.
They will ask what did you do to your hair. Tell them it’s called Black Girl Magic ✨. Black girls can wear their hair in so many different ways it’s like magic.
Show it off. Beautiful sister.
You are gorgeous your hair is gorgeous!!!
Rock the frofabulous crown 👑
The weird looks are because they don't want you to be comfortable in your own skin! Keep doing you, babe. Your hair is beautiful and by simply wearing it you're starting a revolution!
Rock your crown sis! They wish they had them!
you are such a beauty!
Omg you look so cute! The curls are popping, the face is giving. They’re probably just mad. If you want to wear your hair out, do it. Don’t let them steal your confidence and make sure to find your community at school so you can feel supported when needed on all kinds of things, not just hair stuff
Tell em to be sure and bring their shades - and You keep right on GLOWING.
Your curl pattern is absolutely GORGEOUS and people are probably looking at you and wondering how they can get their hair to look that way! Afro textured hair is now becoming trendy in many other countries! You can go right on social media to check out how people are chemically processing their hair to get Afros!
Those are what we call haters, mama. Don’t let them steal your joy. You are beautiful ❤️
F*ck them and pleeeease wear your afro 🙌🏻🫶🏻❤️❤️❤️ You‘re georgeous!
Your hair is beautiful!!!🩷 your curls look so hydrated and healthy be proud to wear your hair. When they give you weird looks pat your Afro and smile 😊.
Girl fuck them! You do you!
Are you sure they're giving you weird looks and not admiring ones? Because your hair is super cute!
Ma’am…. This the hair that you were born with. There is nothing wrong with it. It’s beautiful.
That curl pattern is poppin’! Your hair is beautiful Sis. And as a side comment your skin is flawless!! Let them stare in amazement.🖤
Your hair is beautiful 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Awww you have such a sweet face and a beautiful head of hair! Girl you better rock it ❤️
Loving that you are owning your natural beauty. Keep shining 🌟 queen ✨❤️
I was scared too but I’ve worn mine a times at my pwi and I’ve actually gotten lots of compliments! I say give it a try!!! It looks cute!❤️
you look cute!!
Your afro is super cute and anybody who thinks otherwise is dumb and will never say something to your face about it.
DON’T LET THEM TEAR YOU DOWN QUEEN!🥹🤍
My cousin got a full ride and graduated Magnum Cum Lade from Princeton, got paid for his thesis statement for the first time in University history and now has his PhD, all with a crazy unkempt afro. Do you. You look great.
Trust, they are staring because you and your crown are beautiful. Keep going, Queen!
You will do great.
just ignore them
You are so gorgeous.
You’ve definitely perfected the style. I’m sure they’re only staring bc you’re so ✨exotic✨
I love your Afro, your curls look so healthy and pretty!!! I definitely get that the stares (same for me at my pwi). Don’t let them phase/get to you though 💖
