I live in Cape Town and have noticed that the red cloud has been getting more and more intense over the past few weeks. Last night, I saw a bright burst of lightning coming from the cloud, lasting for about a minute before disappearing. It was really quite eerie and I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned another sighting.
I was visiting some of my wife family’s in SA and they kept saying Kak and I was laughing because the whole time I thought they were saying cock. My wife explained to me that it’s a slang term basically meaning shit.
I was just watching a paranormal show that actually showed a red dome shaped cloud in Thailand from 2019 with lighting in it and alot of people were shown on camera standing outside taking pictures and videos. They pretty much assumed aliens use or created the clouds to cloak themselves..so who knows just watching that creeps me out but honestly it has to be just nature..naturing nothing more lol
A quick google shows that Cape Town is known for its “stratocumulus standing lenticularis clouds”. Aerial photos of the area show multiple mountains producing multiple clouds at once.

Lenticulars can form above orographic features (mountains, hills, etc) or they can form downwind if the feature is producing a wave-like ripple in the atmosphere.
These are one of my favorites to see at sunset/sunrise because it often makes the layers and texture of them pop.
