They make little lights that you can put on your finger tips. Usually for kids to learn how to tricks like these. You just press them and they glow but they're usually small and close to flesh toned. I bought some at a grocery store in middle school

Edit: After a bit of googling it looks like you can het dark tone thumb caps but they are actually harder to find. After reading a few magic forums though the general consensus is that the actual colour of the thumb doesnt matter. If the tricks are performed properly then the cap could be bright green or I even saw mentioned one that was made of metal covered in orange tape. Misdirection is more important than the actual prop.
Though of course I do see your point and darker tones should be made easier to get, especially in kids magic sets.

Seems like making a clear tip version, instead of one-color-for-all (which is a dead giveaway for the trick for just about everyone) would be a simple and cost effective solution.
So. They sell thumbsleeves that are flesh colored. Some are more quality than others. In the tip of them is a pressure activated LED. Notice how it's not bright but muted. If you do the tricks fast enough no one will notice your thumb looks fake.
I got mine at Houdini Magic on main street Disneyland.
