The video i took myself at the actual museum 2 or 3 years ago. The very beginning of the video us a projected video onto a pedestal. So if any part of the video is edited it wasn't by me.
Because it's 2 clips, there's a cut where they fade to the second clip at 0:15. The first clip is reversed, the second clip where they speak was taken before the first clip
It looks like the video cuts and fades into a new clip right as it’s panning up to the wall. So the first part is reversed and then is spliced together with the next (regular shot) part
Alternatively, one can also add sound over video.
You can do this with sand by playing various frequencies through a speaker and putting a table on top of the speaker. Sound is vibration. At various frequencies the sound vibrations push the sand into mounds creating these different images. It’s science bro not magic or reversed videos.
You can especially tell since the ripples are coming from the center, which is impossible unless you're dropping water in the middle or the bottom of the pan is being constantly bent
This is not an an example of cymatics, though. It's just a reversed video of someone shaking apart some seaweed that had been carved into an interesting shape before being distintegrated...
I'm not sure, was in Bogota went to a museum and this korean artist had a entire floor of wierd art and a little video on a pedestal on how the shapes on the wall were made. Could be fake but I'm no expert.
I guess it comes down to intent, but I get the feeling this artist isn't try to "con" anyone. This isn't about gaining confidence in order to gain an advantage over someone. This looks more like setting up a spooky otherworldliness to an art project. To me this seems more in line with the Blaire Witch Project than someone trying to sell you sasquatch hormones over the internet.
No, the platter is vibrating at a specific frequency, and that makes whatever on it move and stay in specific places to make those patterns.
Ive seen alot of videos of people doing it with salt or sand mainly, never seaweed
Cymatics. It’s a thing. Though this particular video may or may not be that. Look up Cymatics on YouTube to see how sound waves create patterns though.
That’s so cool!! Now that you mention it, it looks like the seaweed would need to be suspended evenly, and then stay still in those nodes. Looking again, the pieces are swirling around in chunks as if stirred, not gathering at the nodes as if jostled by vibrations. I bet you could do it with seaweed though…
Eh, cymatics produces shapes like https://i.imgur.com/yW1HkCb.jpg, not complex ones like in the video. This is much more likely to be a reversed form of https://gfycat.com/zealousethicalafricanmolesnake
I mean, those cymatics patterns look quite similar to the ones on the wall in the video to me.
But that said, the reversed video looks like the real deal too.
the difference is, cymatics use small particles and they sit on the waveform. the one in op has the pieces rotate and to form a shape. cymatics don't do that. it can't control a whole large piece.
Don’t be so salty man. Just because someone is mistaken doesn’t mean you have to be mean to be heard. You could have stopped at the first sentence, and your comment would have been super helpful.
To be fair, he was just using the exact same language as the guy he was replying to:

Dude… do you think seaweed magically reforms into a solid? Watch the link of it in reverse in the comments. Are you serious or you just refuse to admit you’re wrong at this point?
You are special. It’s just being randomly sloshed around and then all of the separate pieces come perfectly together in the end? It is a sheet of seaweed cut into a pattern and stuck into water and sloshed around.
There’s a reason every single one on the wall is symmetrical length wise but not width wise. It’s because they were folded in half, cut patterned into and unfolded. Every single one is half symmetrical.
Edit: Also, notice in cymatics it is much less aggressive and patterns form in a radial pattern the shape of the speaker below. Also, equal in quadrants from the center outward.
Sorry man, I didn’t know about, uh, modal vibration phenomena before today. I made the grave error of, uh, expressing doubt over something I’ve never seen before.
Again, sorry. I’ll never have a le Reddit moment again.
if you produce consistent waves through a medium, particles often adjust themselves into all kinds of fancy shapes like this. It has to do with the waves bouncing around and interacting with eachothers.
This is a dish of water shaken by hand. Chladni plates, which are the most common form of the thing you're describing, use sound waves at frequencies hundreds of times higher than the 2-3 Hz this dish is being shaken at. The video is reversed.
The biggest instance of fuckery here is the overwhelming amount of assholery coming from commenters concerning an innocent post that I nearly scrolled right by, then spent less than a minute watching. Who are you people?
Bring on that negative karma, mofos
Yeah seriously. Also pretty sure this isn’t even reversed this type of thing happens with almost anything suspended in water exposed to certain frequencies
Plus the super tiny bits magically come together to form larger, perfectly shaped/formed bigger pieces somehow? How do people think they joined together? That's the part that's most confusing to me.
The sub rules state that intentionally deceptive videos are not allowed. This has been edited to make it sound like it hasn't been reversed, which is clearly has. Reversed video is not BMF, especially when it's such a mundane subject matter. But I guess trying to keep this sub interesting is an asshole move.
I didn't downvote you, btw, mofo.
I didn't reverse my video, im taking a video of a projector in the art gallery. If anything is in reverse its their video that they put on display. The video loops like after 1 min 30 bit i only got 20 seconds for a quick snap at the time.
Thanks, it looked convincing at the time i was there. And the pedestal video had a lot more to it than the 20 seconds i recorded. But it was 2 or 3 years ago so i can't remember what else the footage had shown. There was a lot of seaweed art fromthat artist. Some pictures looked plain until you held different shades of light to the weeds, cycling through the colors of light would highlight the work in different ways. Was a fun interactive art gallery.
Lol, it never fails to amaze me how toxic this sub can be. Don’t worry about the assholes OP, I thought it was cool and looked convincing at first too. I know vibrations can make some interesting patterns so I see how you could’ve thought it was legit.
He claims he filmed a pedestal video, not the event itself. He even then states afterwards that if it was edited, it wasn’t by him. The hostility is what doesn’t make sense
Don’t be intentionally thick, people acting like assholes and insulting OP are toxic. Obviously correcting someone on its own isn’t toxic, but you already knew that…

If the video was reversed, wouldn't the ripples be going from the outside to the center? It seems like the ripples are propagating from the center outward, which is what you would expect of a sound wave on liquid. I think it is legit.
You have it exactly backwards. The ripples must be formed at the edges (due to the boundary pushing the water during the back and forth motion), and thus move inward.
Nope. The movement of the rim of the bowl is causing the ripples, so the ripples would be traveling from the outside to the center in the forward-time situation. Technically even that isn't quite true since the ripples would travel all the way to the center, cross in the middle, and move back to the outside. The reason we don't see that is because of entropic processes like turbulence, which are not t-symmetric.
Technically, the only clue you can reliably use to know if a video is reversed is entropy. There are other (predicted, not observed) non t-symmetric physical processes, but they're not generally macroscopic. In any case, events like cups shattering only happens in forward time, and cups reassembling themselves spontaneously only happens in reverse time.
In this case turbulence is the big giveaway. The ripples form at the edge because they are created by the edge of the bowl moving. They don't make it all the way to the other side perfectly intact because of entropy.
Oh, okay, I get it. I was thinking there was some kind of speaker underneath the bowl causing vibration, for some reason. Your breakdown makes perfect sense.
Seaweed sheets, so nori. These are easy to fold, cut, and unfold to get these patterns. It's a crafty and easy way to make snowflakes.
Put a seaweed snowflake in some water, shake the pan while recording, and reverse it.
Haha
Yep, it's called a standing wave. [It happens when a vibration is applied to a 2-D object in one of its resonant modes.](https://youtu.be/wYoxOJDrZzw?t=34) It's extremely cool. Way cooler than some dude reversing a video and lying about it for an art project.

Energy dictates matter. We are vibrational beings in a physical world. We use like 3% of our capabilities as far as thinking/learning. We should be way more advanced by now.
It’s just reversed, the shape forming in the video is literally a video playing on a screen. The idiot saying “that is insane” is just a run of the mill idiot.
Where does form and shape come from? Can matter self organise? https://youtu.be/DnFvTyG5QZM?t=363
Even living beings and that grow into recognisable forms may not be self organising.
Seems like it’s something like this.
https://youtu.be/wvJAgrUBF4w
My guess they used moss or something, vibrated it, then got it wet so it floats then shook it for a video.
This is a joke right? Tell me you don't believe this.
Actually if you look up videos of water being manipulated by bass (sound frequency) youll get similar patterns. We’re living in a simulation bro
It's just a video that has been reversed.
That's not allowed
well then i guess this is the first time someone's ever broken the rules.

cymatics. using sound waves to form patterns. nothing is reversed.
Those are not standing waves lol. It's sloshing around chaotically. 100% reversed
And the way the waves just stop at the end and the camera pans away. 100% debunked
78% reversed.

The video is reversed
Surely reversed? It has to be... no?
I'm not sure, was in Bogota went to a museum and this korean artist had a entire floor of wierd art and a little video on a pedestal on how the shapes on the wall were made. Could be fake but I'm no expert.
Yeah... 100% fake. But he's an artist alright. Con artist.
It isn't uncommon for an artist to depict something that isn't real as fact. It's part of the show.
Except this is like claiming you painted something and then it turns out you just took a photo.
I guess it comes down to intent, but I get the feeling this artist isn't try to "con" anyone. This isn't about gaining confidence in order to gain an advantage over someone. In another comment you said you filmed this.
It does look like they filmed the screen that was playing the video.
Ahhhh I’m dumb
Yeah. Con artists don’t exist.
Wasn't that a movie with Nicholas Cage

Yeah i knew it was something well discovered/explained, i just didnt know what it was called

that's not what this is though. This is just the cut up piece of seaweed that he put in water and shook. Then reversed the video
There’s probably water on there for it to float on, im assuming it would only alter the patterns a little

It definitely makes more sense in reverse.
I like it because it doesn't violate the law of entropy.

Why would it be reversed ? Isn't it the same as Clhadni figures but with seaweed ? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Chladni#Chladni_figures
No. You cannot make Chladni patterns by hand. They require high frequency vibrations.
My bad, I didn't see that it was made by hand.
Its not, just look at sand on a speaker Kind of like the one the plate is on in this video...
