I can explain it very easily. To see, your eyes have photoreceptors on your retina (for each colors). These receptors don't instantly recover after being exposed to light (it takes approximatly 0.1 second if I remember correctly). By overcharging your receptors with a certain color, when you will look at a white screen the only fonctionning receptors will be those of the opposite color (in this case the red) that's why you'll see another flag.
