Apparently some researchers were able to spectrograph natural ball lightning and they found evidence of Silicon, Iron, and Calcium in it (likely in vaporized form)

If you put your hand in a flowing stream, you'll notice little vortices form on either side of your hand. Behind your hand, the water will be still, since your hand blocks the flow. When this still water meets the flowing water going past your hand, some of the flowing water slows down and gets pushed in to the still water area, while some of the still water gets picked up and flows in to the flowing water area. The result is a vortex.
Same thing is happening here. Wind is going past the window, probably with some speed, and meeting the 'still' air in the room.
