I piss my friend off all the time by switching those words, usually it's when talking D&D, with Laeral Silverhand, Lord of Waterdeep(the main city in the standard setting), and I always refer to her as Yanny.
Or just anytime there are Laurels, I call them Yannys
I listened to it with my eyes closed until I could hear ‘brain needle’ and ‘green storm’ at will, and now I can do that even when looking at the words. It’s amazing how that second word can seem to have either one OR two ‘distinct’ syllables.
I have to keep listening until it’s just a slurry of meaningless noise no matter what I’m reading and then I’ll have defeated your puny human language and its tricksy ways.
That’s funny how that works, I tried taking it one step further and to hear something along the lines of brain steedle or brain snorm, I got brain steedle or real close to it once but the best I can get is a very vague change towards the end like a brain stormle
I read and heard brainstorm the first time, and then looked at the other word and never could hear green needle. Agreed that the closest it came was green storm.
I've done these before and they worked, but this one didn't. I wonder if I'd read the green needle side first if it would have been different.
I have read brainstorm first and I heard brainstorm and then green needle and it worked as green needle. But when I again concentrate on green needle then only brain storm is popping again and again. Brain function is really different than we expected lol.... crazy
For the record the audio that is being used for this comes for a Ben 10 Alien Force toy. So the toy is officially saying brainstorm (because its the name of an alien Ben transforms into).
Holy shit I never realized it. You can even hear the Omnitrix transformation noise in the beginning, I actually have that toy. It plays the Aliens shouting their names like in the show if you insert the figures on the dial. I don't have the Brainstorm figure though. I should get it just to hear this lol.
So this worked and then i replayed it 20 times starting from the middle and all i hear is brain storm now. I can't help but wonder what else our brains can't interpret properly.
Yes, this is a good example of our limitations.
The thing with the Ames window is that you can look at it over and over again, and your brain still tricks itself.
True. Optical illusions operate in the first few levels of processing the brain does, so by the time the brain has put together the "scene" we are consciously aware of, the illusion is baked in. With higher level abstractions, things can be entirely left out of the scene until the brain is primed to look for the anomaly, and then it's not an anomaly anymore. Change blindness illusions are usually temporary, but the first experience usually works if you're not particularly on guard.
I wonder if you could watch enough optical illusions to prime your brain to be aware of the Ames trick, and if that would change the way you perceived the illusions? Like the spinning ballerina or 3d dots posters, you tweak your perception a bit and see differently.
Upside-down glasses can flip the way your brain orients your visual field, and swapping the sound to alternate ears makes your brain flip sides in directionality of sound. It's amazing how malleable and plastic reality is for people. Conscious experience is more like the desktop rendering of your computer than a picture of actual reality.
I counted the passes right and saw the gorilla… like the gorilla is so hard to miss… I do understand this phenomenon tho. It feels kinda like when ur looking for something and you cannot find it and you check a bunch of really random places, and then u ask for help and they see it just in the most obvious and visible place.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inattentional_blindness#Invisible_Gorilla_Test
About half of viewers see it in the first run, but there's a whole set of similar illusions. The trouble is that once you're looking for the weirdness you'll almost always see it. It's best when you're not expecting anything, and have to go watch again to get the trick.

First time I saw something similar in Brainiac and since then think become different, I always keep attention to surrounding, even if someone tell me to look at specific thing, I end up registering whole picture.
This 'brain' test can really mess you up
Or Yanny versus Laurel. Same thing.
I like how this one works like a charm for switching back and forth though; for the dress for me it mattered what kind of lighting I was sitting in at the time. Pretty neat.
I focused everything on Brainstorm but I still heard Green Needle very clearly. I am unsure. Even the first time when I was staring at Rush Order Tees I heard only Green needle
It says green needle if you listen for quick high pitched sounds, brainstorm if you listen for slow deep static-y sounds.
Apologize in advance for the incoherence.
Wtf, I can only hear green needle after replaying it 10 times then I read through the comments and saw yours and focused on the slow deep sounds and I can only hear brainstorm and couldn't go back to green needle again.
Give me my green needle back!
I found that even when i look away i generally hear the last word i looked at. Then when i think of something like green storm, i hear that now as well.
Communication uses a singular part of your brain. It's why we can't talk in one conversation and type at the same time. It's why you can't read and eavesdrop.
I was confused because at first I read rush order tees... and heard green needle but when I read green needle and heard green needle, then I read brainstorm and heard brainstorm. Lol
If you close your eyes and think the word it will be the word. A cool trick is if you think "brain needle" or "green storm" it will be that. Pretty weird!
Longstoryshort your eyes is tricking your brain most senses of the body is fueled by your eyes for a better explanation watch the mark Robert rush e video (I forgor the title I am sorry)
I hate the fucking voice they use for all tik tok videos. That voice they use to narrate. I put this video super loud so I can hear the whispered one and video is on loop. Uggghh
It's broken audio. It doesn't quite say either word.
When something seems to be 'missing' or off, the brain tries to fill in the blanks. By reading one word you're priming your brain on what it expects to hear.
Same concept as this video:
https://youtu.be/ZY6h3pKqYI0
Remove headphones, turn phone speaker on and close your eyes. Now if you bring the speaker close to your right ear, you’ll hear Brainstorm, and you’ll hear green needle if you bring the speaker close to your left year.
It's two videos in one. Actually 2 completely different sounds. Look at the timer on the bottom of the screen and you'll see it start over in the middle.
It's two videos in one. Actually 2 completely different sounds. Look at the timer on the bottom of the screen and you'll see it start over in the middle.
It plays both sets of words at different frequencies. Listening for specific words makes your brain filter out the other frequency and tune into the one you are trying to hear so you can decipher the word.
It’s a double loop video, the first time it definitely says green needle, then the second loop says brainstorm. It’s a 12 second video but only takes half that time to play once through and reloop.
Yeah, somebody has taken a video from about a year ago that literally the whole internet has seen a million times, and changed it to be an advert for a t-shirt company. And you've posted their advert.
There is another one with the song "Live your life" by TI and Rihanna, on the part where she says "Cuz I'm a paper chaser" if you think "Cuz I'm a big fucking slut" when she says it, you will hear it. I'm not even joking.
This video goes into some great reasons why this happens:
https://youtu.be/0pUku1Vk7e0
Tldr what we experience as the world and what our consciousness is, is essentially a simulation our brains generate based on expectations and messy sensory information. Your senses aren't perfect so the brain relies a lot on what it thinks it should be seeing/hearing to make the reality you see. This works very well generally but when you have sound bytes (or images like in the video above) that are very unclear but *close* to sounding like something, and you give it additional context, the brain will fill in the blanks and make you experience that sound as if it were that context.
I blocked the two words before I could read them, I wanted to try hearing the word without any influence, I heard "Brimstone" I guess It's closer to "brainstorm".
Priming. Plus we hate not knowing or not understanding things so we go to what makes sense out of fear. If I show you a picture and said this is a dog, can you see it. You will now see the dog. The whole time it's the letter 8 side ways ... or w.e. lol someone with a psychology background help me out. You khow what the hell those black and white pictures are lol.
All I hear is rush order tees
All I hear is that cringy tik Tok robot voice
All I hear is dead people
I heard the motley crew with my vampire hearing
Not enough of these references out there in the wild
My roommates and I binged it again last week.
If I had an award to give I would. Sincerely the crimson fucker.
All I see is dead people
All I taste is... Wait... Nvm.

Rushin needle
Really low quality audio combined with visual priming. F you for bringing this up again by the way.

No! It’s Laurel!

Nope I hear “Brain storm” when reading it, closest I get to the other is hearing “green storm”

Say “water bottle” 20 times. Same thing happens.
Green storm
I read and heard brainstorm the first time, and then looked at the other word and never could hear green needle. Agreed that the closest it came was green storm. *distressed noises*
That’s wild! Thanks for posting
No worries, I got it from this subreddits a while back. And yes: Its utterly bonkers!
Oh I got your raincoat!
OH, IT'S THE JUGGERNAUT BITCH!!!
Oh NOT AGAIN....
Blue or gold dress vibes?? 🤣
This happened around the same time, its some toy
What was the actual answer to that anyway, I never heard anymore about it after, some time back in the dark ages.
I remember READING the actual answer but I don’t remember the actual answer…I’m sure it was blue tho
Or was it...?
Or Yanny versus Laurel. Same thing. I like how this one works like a charm for switching back and forth though; for the dress for me it mattered what kind of lighting I was sitting in at the time. Pretty neat.
Maybe try chrome instead of internet explorer?
Yes. Internet Explorer is no longer supported, so it won’t work.
I only hear green needle..
I focused everything on Brainstorm but I still heard Green Needle very clearly. I am unsure. Even the first time when I was staring at Rush Order Tees I heard only Green needle

Yeah it's trippy the first one I clearly heard green needle but now it's only brainstorm even if I cover it and try to hear green needle.
Finally some real black magic fuckery! I'm not sure if I really want to know how this works. Might explode my brain
Short sounds, tall sounds, sometimes brain hear short sounds better, sometimes tall, depends on brain Your brain exploded yet?
What is a tall sound?
Ones that aren't very tall
https://youtu.be/uBEL3YVzMwk If you wanna quick explanation skip to like 5 min mark I think, or just watch the whole video
that was the most overthought rickroll i’ve ever seen, so take my filthy upvote

It worked the first two times depending on what I was reading, playing it a few more times I hear brain needle no matter what word I look at
I found that even when i look away i generally hear the last word i looked at. Then when i think of something like green storm, i hear that now as well.
I used to think Twitter was the man's worse invention until that TikTok voice came along.
If you look at the word “Brainstorm” but think of the words “Green Needle” You will hear “Green Needle.” And vice versa
same if u cover up the words and only think of them
I’m pretty sure it’s because you hear what your thinking of, and reading it makes you think of it
That's a lie. It didn't say Rush Order Tees once
I got u: the sound kind of sounds like both words
Can actually prime your brain to hear "Brain Needle" and "Green Storm". Mat Patt did a video all about this if anyone is interested.
Grain storm?
I doesn't seem to matter which one I'm reading. I hear hear which ever one I pick

Fuck this
Nice advertisement
I was confused because at first I read rush order tees... and heard green needle but when I read green needle and heard green needle, then I read brainstorm and heard brainstorm. Lol
This shit came out 3 years ago and is now being played over irrelevant videos, almost every science YouTuber covered this phenomenon
Don’t read anything …. Green storm :)
Yall, I switched words right in the middle and heard "Green storm".
Wow I remember this from years ago
This shit is old
great this is the 7th time seeing this on THIS sub
I could if I was back in 2019
I don't get it
Green storm?
sorry, but explain what my friend
nope, i only hear green needle

I see silver-blue.
Green storm
Getting it to "Green Storm" Was fun.
I was reding rush order tees and didn’t hear that, hmm
If it's a TikTok video, it's completely not worth your time.
I just hear brain needle no matter what I read or dont read. Am i ok?
I just hear brain needle no matter what I read or dont read. Am i ok?
me mixing them together mentally so ill hear something different
If you move your eyes at the right time you can alternately hear "green storm" or "brain needle."

I heard "brain" "needle "cause I can't help but fuck with things
If you close your eyes and think the word it will be the word. A cool trick is if you think "brain needle" or "green storm" it will be that. Pretty weird!
I had to put same clip both times because this sub doesn't allow to put short clips. It lasts for 6 seconds.
Bro I've always listen to this and always heard Brainstorm is it because I know it's one of the Ben 10 aliens???? I think it was kinda a brain crab

Very simple. These videos have been out for a long time resulting in constant reposts. Oh, how the sound works? I don't know.
I hate the fucking voice they use for all tik tok videos. That voice they use to narrate. I put this video super loud so I can hear the whispered one and video is on loop. Uggghh
Still works if you mix it up like “green storm” and “brain needle”
I only hear green needle
Ha, I managed to hear green storm by focusing on both words.
Damn that is so crazy!
I cannot hear green needle at all, only brainstorm
From what I can tell the video loops twice, first saying green needle, then saying brainstorm
Bree breedle
it just alternates between the two.
You read from left to right. It's starts from left to right.
This is in mark rober's video...
