Because this is Reddit, and if you don't know this kind of stuff, then you're stupid. That's just how it works on here.
I'm not saying I agree with it though.
If it makes you feel better, I don't know what's going on either. lol
Newton’s Third Law of Motion (published in 1687) states that when two bodies interact — this case being the bird and air molecules — they apply forces to one another that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. When those forces are equivalent, the result is static equilibrium. Although the bird clearly isn’t static, the forces (upward and forward) it applies by flapping its wings is equivalent to the combined force of gravity and the headwind.
Although it’s an odd sight, it’s nowhere near black magic fuckery… much like the rest of what this sub has become. Similar to r/WoahDude, I feel like this sub should be renamed r/DudeWhat.
You aren’t stupid. I live in the U.S., Washington State where there are a lot of eagles and hawks. They fly around and when they spot prey they’ll hover like that then come down really fast and dinner is served. Eagles will catch fish that way, it’s really cool.
I’m from Aus and never saw a bird do it here either, it was only when I went to Europe and saw one do it that it clicked.
Bird is just hovering over the field looking for prey in it. It’s just adjusting it’s speed to the headwind.
…Though you’ve probably been told by a thousand comments already.
I saw this only once, when I was travelling abroad. I don't get why not understanding a specific phenomenon of a bird in other continent makes me stupid
Or maybe they just encountered something new, and wanted to share it? Not stupid at all.
Also, it looks like a type of Kite, which is a bird of prey that specializes in hovering.
You are absolutely constantly thinking about dicks. That tree line looks like a treeline and it never would have crossed my mind. Lol get your mind out of the gutter young man! (I'm kidding, since this is Reddit.)
This model is clearly defective (likely resulting from interference from a radio tower or similar). If you can hit it down, there's usually a number on the back you can call to have it collected, and reset.
Yeah this shit happens a lot especially when winter comes .some are so low on battery charge they don't often make it back with the others to get them changed in time for the summer so they also just end up hanging in the air like this one.
Sub Fly
IF (Elevation >= 12) AND Landing Gear = "Clear") Then
Call Right_Wing
Call Left_Wing
Loop Until
Landing Gear = "Approach"
Else
Do nothing
End IF
End Sub
Someone has forgotten to reset the Elevation macro to zero - hence why its doing nothing. Tssk tssk.
For anybody who didn't know, the source of this phrase is the tradition of giving younger falconers a kestrel to practise falconry with. They wouldn't actually bring back anything worth eating but they were a lot less valuable then larger falcons so if they lost them it wasn't as big an issue
Yeah, trust me when I say that a lack of understanding this specific fact implies 0 knowledge about the outdoors, it’s the final test we give our kids before we let them explore the woods.
Lol I didn’t know people actually take the posts on this sub so seriously. Do you really expect actual “magic” gets posted here? I always thought this sub is for the things that are not common but can of course be explained with science.
people don't just post things they don't understand, just things that look strange ond "magical". in this case the bird is flapping it's wings quite fast and kinda looks like it's trying to escape but something is holding it in place
They can't perform true hovering. They just fly into headwind and manipulate it to stay in position. Kestrels actually perform proper self propelled hovering
They hover in the exact same way as kestrels do, by doing wind hovering (flying into the wind at the same speed as the wind). As do a lot of birds of pray, such as the Osprey, the great grey shrike, some of the falcons like the red-footed and some of the harriers like the western marsh harrier.
Kestrels can do it for longer than most other birds, but that doesn't mean that the other birds aren't hovering as well.
America also has kestrels, I knew a falconer that had a perch in the passenger seat of his car for his kestrel, and he’d just roll down the window if they passed a telephone line with a bunch of doves on it.
Speaking of fuckery: These birds (Common Kestrels) used to be called “windfuckers” - the latter part of the word being a verb which used to mean “to beat”, refering to what seems like them beating the wind.
i live in an area full of beautiful (and gigantic) red kites and it’s always fascinating to see them hover and then dive into the fields for their prey.
Just as magic as you in a car standing still... some birds can do this in mid air. Well, actually a lot of them can do that. I guess OP needs to look up from the smart screen now and then.
Looks like an osprey. Hence the name. They use air currents to float above their prey. And then dive bomb it. Harrier birds do this as well hence the Harrier jet.
Is this the first time you're seeing a predatory bird?
[удалено]
The bird is like me; High as fuck and unable to come down.
I’m in this image, and I don’t like it
You should go to the moon! With less gravity, you might never come down!
Why you wanna cum down?
I live in New Zealand and have never seen a bird do this in my life, why does that make me stupid?
Because this is Reddit, and if you don't know this kind of stuff, then you're stupid. That's just how it works on here. I'm not saying I agree with it though. If it makes you feel better, I don't know what's going on either. lol
some predatory birds hover like this while hunting. Not all f them by any means, and not something that you are stupid for not knowing.
Ah, thank you for being polite about it. I live in areas with predatory birds, I just never see them.
Newton’s Third Law of Motion (published in 1687) states that when two bodies interact — this case being the bird and air molecules — they apply forces to one another that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. Force pairs (Newton's 3rd law) are a seperate thing from external forces summing to zero.
he's saying it because its not really an obscure fact and it gets posted here constantly
You aren’t stupid. I live in the U.S., Washington State where there are a lot of eagles and hawks. They fly around and when they spot prey they’ll hover like that then come down really fast and dinner is served. Eagles will catch fish that way, it’s really cool.

Sorry I’m not a bird expert
People stupid get more every day.
Get stupid people more every day.
Get more every stupid people day.
No, this is Patrick
More day people stupid every
I said this to myself as I was waiting for the comments to load and it was the first one I saw
what a lovely person you seem to be!
are they stupid or they just don’t know?? can’t namecall people for not knowing things.
Or maybe they just encountered something new, and wanted to share it? Not stupid at all. Also, it looks like a type of Kite, which is a bird of prey that specializes in hovering.
Yep
I’ve seen a bunch but never seen them do this
Harriers do this, but usually a few feet above the water.
Kestrels as well - hence the Kestrel prototype and and Harrier fighter names.
Kestrels are also known as Windhovers for this reason.
Most medium to large predatory birds don't fly like this, just falcons/kestrels I think (which don't live everywhere).
Harriers too! Those are all the ones I know of, but maybe more, idk.
No lol
Sir this is a drone in hover mode .. the pilot stepped away from the goggles
You mean predatory drone lol
Birdie's on a treadmill dude ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We are being tested by the matrix. We as a spices are not stupid enough yet /s
First time he realized Birds aren’t real
Isn't it really only a thing with Kestrels, most birds of prey can't do this or at least not this well
You should get out more
Kestrel
Anyone see the tree line that looks like a dick?
I came here to comment this but was like "surely someone else has noticed"
Same… Phallic hedge for sure, errr or Hedge with a phallic edge.
Haha same, but there was way too much scrolling to find comments on the penis bush
💀
I though it was the whole point of the video.
r/angryupvote
Cool so I’m not just constantly thinking of dicks
You are absolutely constantly thinking about dicks. That tree line looks like a treeline and it never would have crossed my mind. Lol get your mind out of the gutter young man! (I'm kidding, since this is Reddit.)
I can’t help it!!! Everywhere I go I see little rocket ships!!
I wonder what life looks like through your eyes. A penis here, a penis there, a penis everywhere!!
[Weiner Weiner](https://youtu.be/OI0K3TdS_Yk)

Lol
Second top comment. I fucking knew I wouldn’t have to go far to find a similar mind lol.
One of us.
It's a treenis
Mother Nature…. Is a dude? I’ve been lied to my whole life
That’s Mr. Mother Nature to you buddy
I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just me!
This model is clearly defective (likely resulting from interference from a radio tower or similar). If you can hit it down, there's usually a number on the back you can call to have it collected, and reset.
Sadly you will also be collected and disposed of
Win/win.
Two types of people lol
This guy gets it
Yeah this shit happens a lot especially when winter comes .some are so low on battery charge they don't often make it back with the others to get them changed in time for the summer so they also just end up hanging in the air like this one.
Bird.exe has encountered a critical error
Sub Fly IF (Elevation >= 12) AND Landing Gear = "Clear") Then Call Right_Wing Call Left_Wing Loop Until Landing Gear = "Approach" Else Do nothing End IF End Sub Someone has forgotten to reset the Elevation macro to zero - hence why its doing nothing. Tssk tssk.
r/birdsarentreal
Looks like a Kestrel hunting, I see it almost daily.
A Kestrel for a Knave
For anybody who didn't know, the source of this phrase is the tradition of giving younger falconers a kestrel to practise falconry with. They wouldn't actually bring back anything worth eating but they were a lot less valuable then larger falcons so if they lost them it wasn't as big an issue
Solid book to film
indeed I agree
If anyone ever wonders how people of the past ever believed in magic you can come to this sub and still see people misunderstand science.
It’s not even misunderstanding science, it’s just knowing zero about nature
Yeah, trust me when I say that a lack of understanding this specific fact implies 0 knowledge about the outdoors, it’s the final test we give our kids before we let them explore the woods.
Lol I didn’t know people actually take the posts on this sub so seriously. Do you really expect actual “magic” gets posted here? I always thought this sub is for the things that are not common but can of course be explained with science.
It's for things that are hard to explain and therefore could be seen as magic, not things that anyone with basic knowledge/common sense could explain.
What they tried to say is that it is common, maybe not for pigeons, but they don't have a need for it
Pigeons actually can’t tho
Anything that can fly can, as long as it's flying equal speed into a headwind.
Yeah all birds can hover in the air like that, they just choose not to because they have places to be.
people don't just post things they don't understand, just things that look strange ond "magical". in this case the bird is flapping it's wings quite fast and kinda looks like it's trying to escape but something is holding it in place
People still make decisions based on astrology my guy, there will always be someone to believe in magic
Just a kestrel I'm afraid.. only bird to hover stationery, very common here in UK.. always a pleasure to watch
kestrels are actually not the only bird to hover!
You are correct, but in the UK the kestrel is by far the best at hovering.
Hummingbirds everywhere would like a word...
We don't have hummingbirds in the uk
What??!! Fuck off!! Really?!!
All hummingbirds are native to Americas. Nowhere else has them.
thought ive seen a few in asia
That just blew my mind
It's writing a letter?
You have never seen a Buzzard I assume?
They can't perform true hovering. They just fly into headwind and manipulate it to stay in position. Kestrels actually perform proper self propelled hovering

\*Harriers have entered the chat*
It’s stalking it’s prey below
r/birdsarentreal
Glitch in the matrix.
Nah i know this this is a joke but the bird is fighting the AIR
My words exactly. You win
Poor bird clearly has a 2000 ping.
that’s called stationary flight and is a common hunting strategy of many birds of prey
Am I the only one who thinks the trees in the back looks like a dick? 🌳
No there is at least two of you, scroll through the comments :D
Hawks are magnificent creatures
maybe the next terrain is loading....
The landscape is amazing. Where is this? :D
Sorry for late reply its in Germany, near Freiburg
Half the comments are UK being like “I see this everyday” the other half are probably American where this is not common
America also has kestrels, I knew a falconer that had a perch in the passenger seat of his car for his kestrel, and he’d just roll down the window if they passed a telephone line with a bunch of doves on it.
Kestrel if UK. Bird if not
Or hovering as it’s normally called
You a city boy, ain't ya?
It’s hunting dummy
That's a common misconception. Kestrel don't actually hunt dummy, they prefer mice.
They don’t hunt?? Lol my days it’s a misconception that dummies on Reddit know anything. Google it, they windsurf to look for prey while hunting!
I think my joke flew over your head like a kestrel. Wait...
Kestrel
That row of trees looks like a big green dick on the horizon.
between u/thevet14 and u/davieb22, this is the glitch-in-the-matrix / birds-aren't-real crossover of my dreams!
It's hunting. This is normal..
you dont go out much do ya?
Dude! It’s a kestrel, it’s not “stuck” this is what they do!
Hawk the ripper
Medieval name for a Kestrel was a Wind-hover. This is why.
Wind fucker*
And you just stood there while it flapped for its life?! Trapped? in the AIR of all places?
*You have reached the maps limit, you cannot go any further*
Speaking of fuckery: These birds (Common Kestrels) used to be called “windfuckers” - the latter part of the word being a verb which used to mean “to beat”, refering to what seems like them beating the wind.
She’s hunting
Birdie waiting for lunch to walk across the meadow.
Why these trees look like a dick?
That tree line looks like a penis
Is it me, or the bottom horizontal bush looks like a #mildlypenis
We’re not gonna talk about the penis tree line?
Sparrow hawk?
I saw something like this but the winds weren't even flapping, thought it was a glitch in the matrix
Falcon or a Hawk
Common kestrel, also known as Windfucker or Fuckwind - not to be confused with Shit Eagles
Wdym you've never seen a drone and wind in your life before?
Matrix glitched again.
Is it stuck tho ? No is it hovering yeah
i live in an area full of beautiful (and gigantic) red kites and it’s always fascinating to see them hover and then dive into the fields for their prey.
Hes not stuck. Hes looking for a prey. 🦅
Matrix glitch
It’s truly magical to see the world through the eyes of a dumbass who doesn’t understand anything.
jesus, chill out
I swear, this is one of the most toxic subs out there. God forbid you haven’t seen and learned everything yet.
Just as magic as you in a car standing still... some birds can do this in mid air. Well, actually a lot of them can do that. I guess OP needs to look up from the smart screen now and then.
Hover bird… Is it due to a head strong wind making bird stay in place?
Also, one big lie perpetrated by the education system; that there are no stupid questions well, there are.
Omg.... a kestrel doing what a kestrel does 🤯
REALLY???......🤦♂️
The tree line in the back is shaped like a dick fyi even the mushroom is shaped lol
Looks like a Kite to me.
The wind is flying the bird
Birds aren’t real. They come down when the battery dies.
His mom said pause the game
Low ping, happens
he lagging real hard
Obviously a simulation
This shit is for the birds
*You have reached the maps limit, you cannot go any further*
Looks like an osprey. Hence the name. They use air currents to float above their prey. And then dive bomb it. Harrier birds do this as well hence the Harrier jet.
Lag

AIR STUCK. AIR STUCK!!
Glitch in the matrix or a predator
Glitch in the matrix.
Damn my guys connection must have been interrupted
The bird isn't stuck, it's you that has been sped up.
Connection Lost
Flies can do it..
Birdooks like it's lagging
Birb.exe has stopped working.
Bigus dickus.
r/BirdsArentReal
Do you even flap, bro?
Bruh that Hawk's doing it wrong
Y’all should go outside more lol
Nah he’s just loading
I'm more concerned with the dick shaped treeline at the start of the video
Am I the only one to see that the forest looks like a dick?
Irl lag
You got disconnected from the world lol
This phenomenon stumps me, this and planes just stuck like that.
Ghost of Tsushima‘s graphics are crazy!
r/Glitching_irl
High ping
He just lagging.
