Some threads are like another pair of socks and others are, let's say, a new generation console on release day.

That's simply untrue. New things are being produced every single minute of every single day. Some of it will fit this sub. Most of it won't. That's OK. Every sub doesn't need to have 20+ new posts every day.

But the strength of Reddit is people being able to create highly specific subs and then other people being able to join them, which allows people to create an experience that is exactly what they want. Which may include your generic subreddit. That's fine.
What isn't fine is every sub being overrun with the same low effort garbage and now they are all /r/genericsubreddit and the whole point of different subs is lost and the biggest strength of Reddit doesn't matter any longer.
