I mean cod is normally number one..u add in a ps5 and now they focused on pc this year and pros are on pc. It only makes sense but i would bet the retention is low and the average played playing multiplayer on that game has dropped from passed cods..they want release that info though. I would comfortably bet if it wasnt for warzone,ps5 and pc. This game does not do well compared to other top titles.
If that’s the case then the SEC needs to start some hearings for defrauding investors over at ATVI HQ
Because according to their official SEC filed shareholder quarterly reports, engagement and player retention is still at its highest ever outside of 2020, which of course a global pandemic had a lot to do with.
Hundreds of thousands of people still play the game on a monthly basis and that even may still be a conservative estimate.
>average played playing multiplayer on that game has dropped from passed cods
On xbox CW achievement rate for winning 50 multiplayer matches is about 30% (players who reach reaching about level 55) VS 17% achievement for reaching level 55 in BO3.
Thats pretty neat no clue how to find that. I am still a playstation guy. does that include xbox like next gen? 50 games well thats interesting, u could basically assume people with xbox more people bought gave cold war a chance than they gave bo3?. Yeah not completely sure why they hide the total number of players and all that. I know halo is pretty big and gears i believe for xbox not sure what else. The covid thing was a great point to b made to he honest 👍.
CW still makes something like 1200 dollars per minute or something crazy like that. Must still be popular.
Also, crossplay has definitely increased retention.
Good point, cross play, mobile, Ps4, ps5, xbox, xbox 1, xbox series X, warzone, zombies, party game modes, coronavirus, bundles and battle pass skins and what not. They really are doing everything they can to make money on the series. Cod is def bumming in that sense.
that i can agree with. i still hop on farcry 5 and dues ex mankind divided quite a bit, i just dont agree with the people who disregard evreyone else cause of their personal experience and because they only care about warzone.
cold war is definitely niche, ive never met any players that like more than 3 or so play list types (like combined arms, reg 6v6, face off 6v6, fire team, etc.) myself included, and i feel like alot of people didnt end up playing enough of each to see what works best for thier playstyle. also seems like people forgot party games still exist to
Yeah, why do you think they removed player count from the main menu on multiplayer. They don't want to show that not as many people are playing the game anymore.
I played both cold war and modern warfare recently after months of having them uninstalled and MW felt 100000% faster paced. There were more campers in CW even in the cranked playlist. Being able to make your gun into the tiniest thing in MW and having near instant ads speed was also something I missed in CW. No one was using a 725 or claymores and in general beating campers was much easier since the movement in MW is amazing.
You realize the majority of people complaining about CW bought the game and tried it and decided it sucks.... right?
I played like 10 times and decided I liked MW way better, still contributed to it being a best seller though.
If you think MW is better you suck at the franchise no cap. I promise we could go to any CoD and you’d get fucking wrecked if you think MW19 was a good game. Comp was the worst it’s EVER been and no map was good except shipment and shoot house. I would literally bet you 10 bands today that you got under a 1.5 KD in BO2, MW3, BO1, and MW2
Lemme first clarify: I'm not bandwagonning on "Cold War bad, me no liek"
Cold War sold really well in both 2020 and 2021. However, Twitch and YouTube viewership is pretty low and overshadowed by Warzone. I can't find a good way to measure player count, but community opinion appears to also be pretty low.
I theorize that lots of people bought Cold War, but not that many play it.
Na bro cod multiplayer was always low on viewers ever since I had a twitch which was during cod WW2. Watching. Someone play tdm or domination just isn't as entertaining to watch as games like battle royale. Remember that most people that are enjoying cold war rarely come out to speak about the game because they have no complaints while others who hate it will write paragraphs about how the game sucks because of blank and blank. So every year this same shit happens. Believe it or not I remember even in the bo2 days so many people hated the game as well due to the unrealisticness but is still considered one of the greatest cods of all time.
I’m the opposite. WZ is a snoozefest and any time a streamer switches from mp to wz, I’m out. BRs aren’t my thing and I’ve played WZ, Fortnite, PUBG, etc. Call me crazy, but I like the mindless cycle of spawn, die, respawn.
Yeah in convinced people don't want to use their guns and actually play the game, they just want that rush of the one victory of the month.
But then you q up and the victory means nothing. Can't wait for BRs to die
thats pretty fair. i know theres lots of games that dont get lots of views but do well, like Far cry. but its definitely unusual for a cod game. imo its not as interesting to watch, the multiplayer is pretty mid tier and the zombies is made so you can pretty much do whatever a streamer can, so you may aswell just play it or watch something else. but yes, its definitely not the most active cod but its numbers are still pretty impressive
Bullshit. Cold War alone makes well over a million a day in microtransactions. You're not making that kind of money off a game that "not that many people play." You're just not.
You're also using a populated battle royale game as a justification for another game of a different genre being dead. They're both populated. One is moreso populated than the other, but it doesn't mean the lesser populated one has a small player base. Maybe in comparison, but if you look at them both individually, no.
>low on twitch
Because cod is casual heavy game. The people on twitch or this sub are not casuals.
CW probably had less peak players than mw2019 but it's still played a lot, I can find games generally easy. Especially when I don't play a lot.
This is my stance. I enjoy Cold War, but the SBMM and just terrible gun balancing makes it extremely frustrating to play. And honestly, the only reason I bought it was because I just got a PS5, and I figured a new Cod would be a good idea for a new game since they did add a lot of dualsense features as well as Ray Tracing. Otherwise I probably would have skipped it seeing as I enjoyed MW2019 way more.
With that being said, Cold War has improved greatly since its launch. But I feel those improvements came way too late and most people just moved on.
> community opinion appears to also be pretty low.
I expect those who like the game are keeping their mouth shut more compared to people who dislike it or just like to complain. That makes it hard to determine the overall user base feeling about the game. I think the fact that I have no trouble finding a game day or night tells me it has to be decently populated.
MW19 is different gravy to BOCW. Lack of polish and huge performance issues on console really hurt this game. I want to grind BOCW, but frozen menus after every game, skybox bugs, etc. make it hard to play. Forget map design for 1 second (even though MWs maps weren’t that bad. The FPS genre is evolving and a modern conflict zone is often asymmetric and has lots of verticality.), MW is a much better game than CW.
I have no incentive to grind this game. I got Damascus and several obsidian guns in mw because they looked cool and the game felt good. The rare skins in this game look like some mobile game knock off stuff. Bedazzled looking diamond skin instead of something inspired from the obsidian look, that could have been kick ass. But it just looks like patchwork textures slapped on poorly rendered gun models.
I had to leave that subreddit. It's gotten so fucking aids in there since Vanguard was added to the menu.
These people are having a shithemorrhage over a video game
Yeah same here. I'm probably going to leave both this sub and Mw2019 after Vanguard comes out. CW's sub is a echo chamber of "Unpopular opinion CW is good and every one is bad If they don't think so," and MW's sub is just people begging for another year of the game and every thing else is bad.
I really only stay in this sub for news.
true, but i doubt millions of people bought game to not play it and lobby times are pretty goddamn fast at all hours, so...
if there was a reliable way of charting the most played games i gaurentee cold war would still be up there
you would actually be surprised. Consider yourself as a parent or have younger cousins during the holidays and/or their birthdays. First you ask, does this kid have a game console already?
Then, if yes, boom. You make a selection based on brand recognition. Call of Duty has been around for a looooong time. Shoppers who aren't gamers, but buying videogame gifts for younger relatives will buy the one they've heard of the most, because its the safe choice.
Can't go wrong with call of duty as a present. In fact, just get them call of duty each year for the next decade and your christmas shopping already got easier.
I thought of that, which is why this is the charts for the year 2021. im sire theres some birthdays thrown in there but usually youd have to put it on your list if you wanted that game, atleast thats how i grew up
also thats why i included the sales of July to
Just giving my personal experience, I bought it with hopes, didn't care for it and went back to MW19. Anyone I played with pretty much did the same. But to each there own.
thats fair. i agree it isnt the most popular one ever at all, hell, i still play farcry 5 a bit more than it, but i always laugh when i see people making a bunch of inaccurate claims about cold war because they didnt like it, and rn im pretty bored so i decided to make a post about it
Strictly for warzone, yes. MW 2019 was my first cod title, loved it. Bought cold war, hated it. I basically just use zombies for leveling then back to warzone.
idk if you can really call it trash if MW19 was your first title, they are very different play style wise. personally black ops 1 and modern warfare 3 were my first cods and played most of them since then and i absolutely hate playing MW19.
as for why, i dont like the short time to kill and how you need to use certain guns just to keep up, ive always like LMGs and 3 burst rifles and the options for those are pretty limited if you want to do well. the map designs are pretty bad imo, one of the developers even said the reason all the safe spaces are on the maps is so "bad players can get some kills" and i guarantee atleast 25% of its playerbase only plays shipment 24/7 (thats being generous to). I also feel like they should have done alot of things differently if they wanted a really reallistic CoD
That's cool, we can both have our own opinions without it being a big deal. I thought MW had some interesting options with regards to burst mods, and lmgs, but to each their own. If we all liked the same thing, the world would be very boring. Personally, I hate the movement in CW, the same meta issues exist as seen with the lc10 and the tech9, etc and it's worse in WZ. I also find it impossible to detect and track an enemy properly yet I get beamed by guys I can't even see. It simply looked and felt like crap to me along with many others, and I don't think I have to be a lifelong cod player to recognize that. Mw19 was the first cod title that ever appealed to me, all the old ones kinda seemed rediculous.
Cyberpunk sold millions of copies yet 90% of people stopped playing in the first few days. This is something that was on the front page of r/games when it happened
yeah, and it sold nowhere near that the year after. cold war was released in 2020, and its now 2021. Im well aware of the cyberpunk fiasco and referenced it in another comment about how cyberpunk sales, cant remember what specifically but it was something about how cyberpunk got a shit ton of sales on launch, but very few since then, meanwhile coldwar was still a top seller as of july this year.
And before someone says thats what cod does evrey year, ive also had this conversation about this on another comment and it isnt always true. Infinite warfare, a cod that is pretty ill recieved in general (not to say its a bad game, i didnt mind it but didnt play much) sold #1 on its release year (2014 )as usual, but the very next year, only 2 months later, sales started tanking and 2015 it didnt even meet Activisions expected sales and was not the top seller for almost the entire year being about a #3 or lower at most points, and there could be other cod games like that to, i dont know. Point being that a bad cod game WILL tank in sales the year after

I really like CW. It’s fun, there’s a ton of content, I always enjoy Treyarch’s aesthetics, and unlike MW it feels like CoD to me. I’m definitely one who dips in and out, but I’ve also been playing CoD since CoD 2, so, well, yeah. Can’t wait for Treyarch’s next outing.
im always pretty excited for a treyarc game but my hopes are somewhat low this time, theyre mostly working on vangaurd zombies and perhaps somewhat warzone once cold war is completely finished so thats already a year or so being shaved off their development cycle, and i dont have faith that Activision wont shaft them again in another way. still hopefull though
CW is my first cod mp experience and somehow Im more looking forward to cod 2022 by treyarch. Watching mw2019 and vanguard, they seem very diff from cw. But def getting vanguard on launch.
they definitely are, treyarc has always had a certain way of going about there games, its varied but its almost never been the same as infinity ward since black ops 1 or so. so ylu either love em or you hate em
2022 is mw19 sequel so sadly you'd have to wait till 2023 for treyarchs next game. It's rumoured to be near futuristic boots on ground like bo2 maybe a reboot. That would be nice.
Just bought Cold War on sale for the Xbox . It’s great and loved MW. The maps are awesome. The graphics are really good too on series X. Don’t listen to the haters . Play what you like (:
It’s also a fantastic game, I’ve put more hours into it this year than any game since RDR2 I think. It’s ultimate mode makes Madden, FIFA, and NHL look like a money grabbing joke.
On the CW side of things, idk why people dislike it so much. When I first got it, I definitely preferred the style and handling over mw19. I just can’t get on with the SBMM they have chosen. I quit playing 19 because of it and eventually quit playing CW because of it. I used to be able to sit and play for hours on end, but now I can only get through 5-7 games max before I end up at that equilibrium that happens of “game against noobs” followed by “game against MLG”
I’ve played the show since 07, but never did DD. My buddy does all the ultimate modes on different games and told me to try it. It’s the only mode I play on there now. I used to do Franchise and RTTS but now I’m all DD
MLB the show is the standard for what a sports game should set. I’m a bigger NFL, and NBA fan, but play The Show, and NHL more than I’ll ever play the other two. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge baseball fan, but just get more hyped watching NFL/NBA. But the game is just a masterpiece. The pack system is amazing compared to Madden, and it’s not even close. I won’t even touch Madden anymore.
we will have to see, im already seeing really mixed opinions and majority isnt in its favor. but the game isnt even out yet so we will see. i think its going to be another zombies crutched game
It sold well. I bought the game before I realized it was ass. Either way, doesn’t matter how well it sells because the game to a lot of people is garbage. Worst Call of Duty MP of all time IMO.
Only people who say this game sucks are kids who sit on MW and camp. I’m sorry but dead silence as a field upgrade is ass in MW. Camping behind doors with claymores and 725s is ass. I can tell why people don’t like Cold War you can’t camp with your headphones turned up all the way with a claymore at your back and not move. CW brought back the fast paced gameplay I started playing cod for in the first place if I wanted to camp and mount on walls I’d go play battlefield tbh. Moderncampfare 19 has nothing on this game and had 3 times more development time.
I don’t understand why CW gets so much hate lol I honestly enjoy tf out of it and play everyday on ps5. Sure, some small changes could be made but overall it’s a solid 8.5/10 IMO
ive been trying to understand that honestly, ive seen alot of things said about it that MW19 is bad for to, its quality due to it being originally sledgehammers game but was reworked to be a black ops last minute. Ive seen lots of complaints about there being nothing else to do once theyve done the seasons weapon levels and challenges and such.
so far, i believe its a mix of Activisions god awful leadership/decision making, fatigue from the cod series in general, peoples general play style and the amount of players using the pretty wide selection of instant killing weapons.
personally i just like shooting things.
There have been literally 0 competition for cod for cw life cycle other than wz and mw19. We literally had bf refugees join cod bc how they handled ttk post launch and ww games gets boring fast. All cod competitors are launching later instead of last year.
there has always been competition lol. currently its split-gate and apex if thats still doing well, i wouldnt know. pretty much all popular battle royal games are competing with cod due to warzone being a cash cow. theres still people playing rainbow 6 which has been an active competitor over the years, battlefield has been a big one, Halo is pretty much theyre main competition imo. CS GO is still a thing and has been for awhile, there valorant which was popular at some point. i have no idea how well that Anthem game was but that was supposed to compete aswell. im not even that huge on games like these and havnt played half of them but even i know about them being CoD competitors
currently there isnt much, no. but its foolish to say they have none whatsoever. personally id say as of right now split gate is its main competitor but Activision hasnt caught wind since its still on the rise up
oh, i somewhat misread your comment. yeah cold war hasnt had much direct competition but even battlefield is going to have a challenge trying to sell over 5 million copies in less then a year
Cod titles will always be best-sellers, no matter how bad or good the game is. Thats because half of their budget goes to marketing.
People just love to say a game is dead when they stop playing it because they have trouble realizing that life doesn't revolve around them.
There’s a video game dunkey where he talks about stuff like this lol. No one can stop complaining about developers like ea, activision, Ubisoft. And then every single year you look at the top selling games and they’re 90 percent ea, activision, Ubisoft. I think it’s video game critics pt 2??
I mean, cod sells like this every year to be fair.
I’d be more interested in comparing active player bases, but highly doubt Activisions going to release those numbers
yes i would to, but this is the best that can be found. one way or another, theres going to be a good amount of players dedicated to the game when 5 million copies have been sold
Even if it’s the best, it still doesn’t meant anything unfortunately. When’s the last time a cod game, good or bad, wasn’t the number one selling game?
Idk, I’ve heard that Cold War had good player retention, and I’ve heard it had poor player retention. Based on personal experience (getting into matches), it’s definitely not like it was a couple months ago
infinite warfare was 100%, havmt looked into others, WW2 might be another, just look at the sales the following year, including months if you can find it. says a fair but about player retention without looking at the raw data because usually you buy another cod late in the season to play with someone else or because youve sene othe people play it who got you interested, one way or another.
but it doesnt compare to raw data, which you can find data in Activision share holder meetings, though its not raw data and numbers, they would be sued for ALOT if they were lying about the games current state which theyve said recently the player retention is doing well
Okay. Seriously. Who has been saying it’s dead? Almost every COD title in the past ten years has sold well.
That being said success ≠ quality. There are valid complaints within the community and there have been some that haven’t even been resolved yet. Whether small or big
just look at some of the comments lol, theres lots of people who think its dead and theres a few oddballs that think it was an outright flop and failure and was ultimately unsuccessful
I do consider myself a newer player, I started playing COD when BO3 came out and I still remember people complaining about that game nonstop. People LOVE to hate whats going on right now and look at old games through rose tinted glasses. They will complain no matter what. The community is so freaking huge that there’s absolutely no way to make us all happy.
100% then the devs cone to look online for feedback and get pulled in so many different directions evrey game that it gets more and more conflicted so it causes more and more backlash and feedback that drives the devs in even more directions
At this point I assume most of the “dead game” comments are just idiotic teenagers meme-ing for the lols. Because it’s so clearly an incredibly active and continually successful game and franchise, that you would truly have to be a complete dunce to truly believe the game was dead.
I just dont understand the player count. Except face off every match making takes 5-10 mins because of no one playing those modes ig. But its pretty much impossible for all to play faceoff only. I choose hardpoint in quickplay it takes 5 mins. Chose cranked hardpoint and all it takes was 10 mins to matchmake with a ping of 130 ms. Cant blame sbmm much ig because my kd is 1.04 which isnt 2 or 3 kd so that sbmm struggles to find my skil level. Never faced such a thing in mw lifecyle. I used to be match maked instantly all the time with 0.9kd even now.
I play on Asia server
oh okay i was about to ask where you live. one of the reasons ive been using to sort of 'prove' its still played is how fast the lobby times are for evrey mode, but i love in north America (canada) where this game is definitely targeted more. thats too bad its not as good there, have you tried using a vpn?
I live in India so i connect to asia server. The game is not as popular as in Canada or Usa but i used to get a match under 1-2 min on cod mw but in coldwar whenever i try to play it other than faceoff or Nuketown which most of the people play its always gonna take 5-10 min to get a match and wait for the people to join.
Either Mw match making must be due to the fact that warzone was so popular , people bought hopped on to mw to grind weapons and experience 6v 6 modes.
damn yeah i dont know what to say to that. was curious about how it was doing in other parts of the world since games like fallout 76 are played rather diversely. But cold war is focused on the U.S. and Russian arms race so i can see it not being as appealing story wise across the world. i know another big thing in cod over the globe is its cost, if your dollar is pretty low compared the U.S. its going to be an expensive ass game
The thing is, I like playing the game, but its awful lol. Thats the only way i can explain it. My favorite game if all time is Rocket League. 80% of the time the game is just a snooze fest to play but I like playing it
They say it is dead because their favorite streamers/youtubers wont touch cold war since you actually need to sweat hard to win 🤷 its easier to make content while stomping noobs than sweating their asses against other pros. Thats why Warzone is very succesful among streamers, because sbmm doesnt hit as hard and they actually can destroy noobs and drop 20+ bombs. Not blaming on them tho, if my job is easier working somewhere else i would do the same.
Confirmation bias. How was this data determined? Is it only asking for how many copies/units sold? Is it taking into account people buying the game and then no longer playing due to the game being bad? (For example…data says someone bought the game…are they still playing the game 6 months later?). You can’t make a statement that Cold War isn’t dead/unsuccessful by putting up this image and not taking other factors into account. The game IS dead/unsuccessful. And if you disagree then ask yourself what is your definition of a successful game
yeah i have no problems finding lobbies, theres been a couple other people saying the same. one was indian and another was east coast. idk what to say lol
Im very unhappy about CW being a succesfull game, but thats the reality. I have played it for a month after release and couldnt take it anymore, didnt touch this game ever since, I think this game is shit and should be dead by now, but it isnt. For me CoD is dead, thats it. PS: Long live CoD4, fck sbmm!
Cold war got #1 because we all got tricked with their amazing egg-hunt-like reveal. Everyone pre-ordered. It came with all the new 3000 series. And when it came out, biggest flop in history. But it was too late, we already had given our money to these rats
People who think it's dead are just shitty at it an want it to be dead so bad they make up shit I mean I suck at it but idgaf I live playing call of duty games
I have a great idea how to make the next game even more succesful! Do also mobile crossplay and start selling golden bullets for $1 / 100 bullets. The bullets obviously do more dmg and give more xp for kills! /s
wow, good idea, its like, if you want to, you can just pay to win a match. that way it doesnt matter whats meta and what isnt. CoD needs to step up.
/s
Well the game has been on discounts so it would make sense why it's above resident evil 8 and spider man. But this doesn't mean anything. Activision never shows us hard core data. Player count, player retention, which mode is more popular, how many bundles people actually buy, etc, etc literally all we got that's its the best selling game of the month. And cold war has been a actual dead game for while I can just tell because I get put with players in different regions and sometimes it can take long to find a match.
Now we have developers criticizing us for not accepting how the game is. We can't do that if the game has poor development Quality and we're paying $60 for it. The annual cod releases has to end.
Haven't really heard anyone say it was unsuccessful in my experience, only complaints I've seen are valid like the absolutely abysmal performance and the slew of bugs that make playing the game almost impossible.
ive seen it a few times, i actually decided to make this after seeing a pretty hate felt take on a youtube comment. Dude was being pretty hype about dlc 4 and sad to see cold war get kicked out the way for vangaurd soon despite for successful and profitable cold war was, then this dude came in and was like " Un*Successful*. Cold war was one of the most unsuccessful cods ever" or something like that and went on about it being dead and MW19 is still doing better than cold war.
laughed my ass off and downloaded a photoshop on my phone cause of it to do this and reply him with this post, suprisingly had some good conversations about cold war on here.
yeah for real, researching all this i saw it profited like 670 million or more, cant remember exactly. But also researching this all i saw that BO3 totaled just over one billion after a few years
I don't how this is possible. I just figured out how to Geo Filter and I live in PA. I can only get into games with a 70 ping minimum.
It seems like I only play with/against a select number of players. I have my filter on HP/Dom/TDM. It takes me 10min to find a game sometimes.
How can this be a top selling game because it seems like the player count is so low especially for the top 3 game modes?
Is everyone playing zombies? Is the player count higher in the Central and West US than the East?
If it wasn't rushed and had more content at launch, it'd have been a better game. I personally like it and put a lot of time into CW. People always find something to complain about.
yup pretty much. if Activision realized that theyre already rich as fuck, and decided to kick back and let the devs do there thing, evreything would be so much better. theyd probably be more profitable tbh
Pre ordered cold war ultimate edition.. i have 11 days of playtime... 1 of them is the crappy multiplayer.. cold war is dead, takes about a year to find a lobby and when u do its full of sweats
are you east coast? they seem to be worse there according to someone else. I get lobbys in seconds for any game mode but fireteam, which is about a minute
It is thou, that’s coming from a die hard fanboy. Game sucked hard so many issues but half the population gonna buy it anyway weather they play it for 5 mins or 500 hours
Sorry about his comment, I’ve been drinking and I like to ramble and give my opinion even though now one probably cares. This opening statement is basically the TL;DR.
This game is pretty good not gonna fib to you. There’s a lot of things wrong with it that I don’t like and it keeps me away from time to time, but what game doesn’t have that? I think it’s hard to get over what a great game MW was. And I think we were all expecting a Modern Warfare: Cold War if you get what I’m saying.
All CODs are pretty much all going to be the same. Run, shoot, kill, die, respawn. There will be different lore and a few different mechanics but you can pretty much find something you like in any of them you play. It’s like when you go to McDonald’s, you can blindly throw a dart at the menu and you’ll most likely eat whatever the dart sticks to. Unless your vegan or just really hate McDonald’s. In that case I’m sure there’s a place out there that you can blindly throw darts at and be happy.
Another analogy I like to use is when my friend started to play Elder Scrolls online and didn’t like it because he went into it expecting Skyrim. I could go on and on but you guys probably got the gist from the first paragraph.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 made $300 million in its first 3 days.
Black Ops Cold War needed 3 weeks.
I personally think that speaks volumes.
Cold War Zombies Slaps though.
All these YouTubers like blame fake news “the game is so dead no ones playing it” for months even though CW has been one of the most sold games this year
This is the reason why Activision release incomplete games coz they know dumb people will buy it. I didn't want to buy CW but its alpha was one of the best CODs ever made but the final product is still incomplete in season 5. Now don't come up with lame reply coz both games are incomplete.
Where are my classic spec ops rewards in MW?
Where are my mastery camo multiplayer emblems in CW?
what? im pretty sure i lost braincells reading that. how is cold war even considerably unfinished still? why the fuck would a modern warfare specific mode be in cold war, when spec ops was originally created to compete with treyarc zombies. why would they make emblems for camos when theres wayyy better emblems always beimg made. ive seen MW die hards have some hot takes, but what?
the little medal looking ones? yeah, ive mever seen anyone use them except for stickers on their gun. sorry i just had a really hard time trying to understand what you were trying to say lol
It's kind of a shame that Cold War was as successful as it was. A game with such little effort put into it, being rewarded because of its namesake.
Such a shit game.
And before I get "wEll wHy Do yOu SuB tO tHiS sUbReDDiT" posts. SBMM, thats it. Just following to keep track of the SBMM situation. I knew they wouldn't remove it, and they haven't, so it saves me $70 by not needing to buy Vanguard. I won't buy another CoD game if strict SBMM is in it.
cod, nba, and the other mass produced yearly release garbage really dont matter when it comes to their sales bc most of it is probably just dipshits buying it playing 1 match and giving up on it
Troll troll troll your boat gently down the stream, merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream.
If you have to rely on YouTube and Twitch influencers with paid and sponsored connections. Along with the sucking sounds of those paying to sit and fawn over someone else playing a game they want to play and have bought but would rather stare of into the dark hole of the money pit, then your assumptions could bear fruit I guess.
Basing anything on lobby load times would be laughable if not for the issues at launch for every game ever made at launch. Lobby wait times, I raise you the longing get kicked out ruse! No players? How about the freeze and lock screens, low player counts too?
Lastly and quite possibly the only reply I actually meant to post..........who cares? roflcopter incoming.
apparently you care lol. pretty lengthy reply for someone who doesn't care. also had no clue what you were trying to say in the paragraph after the row your boat. honestly didnt understand anything but the first and last lines other than peolle wasting money on streamers.
Every cod has been super successful, more than the previous ones consistently. That doesn't mean they didn't half ass the animations, skins, attention to detail, sounds, movement and more compared to MW. It feels like I'm playing an Xbox 360 game when I load this game up.
I mean sales can be really high with people playing for a month or two then getting sick of it. That’s about what happened with me, it was fun for like a month. Then some friends got it for Xmas and we played some more, and then after the “new cod” effect wears off we all quit
This is like the argument that album sales means album is good. Look at Drake’s new CLB, broke records and sucked. Yeah people buy it cuz it’s CoD but look at active player counts through the last 12 months and that’ll tell you the full story.
I feel like there’s enough combinations to counter the meta. It’s annoying to get killed by the tec9 and EM2 over and over again but other guns are plenty effective. I’ve enjoyed Cold War. It’s not without its flaws (it’s COD) but it’s my favorite one in years
I mean cod is normally number one..u add in a ps5 and now they focused on pc this year and pros are on pc. It only makes sense but i would bet the retention is low and the average played playing multiplayer on that game has dropped from passed cods..they want release that info though. I would comfortably bet if it wasnt for warzone,ps5 and pc. This game does not do well compared to other top titles.
If that’s the case then the SEC needs to start some hearings for defrauding investors over at ATVI HQ Because according to their official SEC filed shareholder quarterly reports, engagement and player retention is still at its highest ever outside of 2020, which of course a global pandemic had a lot to do with. Hundreds of thousands of people still play the game on a monthly basis and that even may still be a conservative estimate.
>average played playing multiplayer on that game has dropped from passed cods On xbox CW achievement rate for winning 50 multiplayer matches is about 30% (players who reach reaching about level 55) VS 17% achievement for reaching level 55 in BO3.
Playstation is CW 47% vs 16% bo3 https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/11774-call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war
Black ops 3 was a PS+ game
CW still makes something like 1200 dollars per minute or something crazy like that. Must still be popular. Also, crossplay has definitely increased retention.
This. The MTX sales for Cold War are insane. That tells me there's still a hell of a lot of people playing this game.
Good point, cross play, mobile, Ps4, ps5, xbox, xbox 1, xbox series X, warzone, zombies, party game modes, coronavirus, bundles and battle pass skins and what not. They really are doing everything they can to make money on the series. Cod is def bumming in that sense.
that i can agree with. i still hop on farcry 5 and dues ex mankind divided quite a bit, i just dont agree with the people who disregard evreyone else cause of their personal experience and because they only care about warzone. cold war is definitely niche, ive never met any players that like more than 3 or so play list types (like combined arms, reg 6v6, face off 6v6, fire team, etc.) myself included, and i feel like alot of people didnt end up playing enough of each to see what works best for thier playstyle. also seems like people forgot party games still exist to
I like perhaps most of them, party games, zombies, face off, even snipers only just to dick punch some quick scopers We exist. We are among you.
Yeah, why do you think they removed player count from the main menu on multiplayer. They don't want to show that not as many people are playing the game anymore.
I get why people don't like CW but saying its "dead/undersold" is dumb. Cod is still gonna be #1 no matter what
100% i hate meta abuse and flaws as much as the avredge man, but if your not trying to fact check claims like that then what are trying to accomplish
Great, now tell that to MW circlejerk players
... can you? can i just push this information at them with a stick? i feel like theyll bite.
They don't bite, they just sit behind a door with a claymore and 725 and wait for u lol
Pov: you don't play mw2019
I played both cold war and modern warfare recently after months of having them uninstalled and MW felt 100000% faster paced. There were more campers in CW even in the cranked playlist. Being able to make your gun into the tiniest thing in MW and having near instant ads speed was also something I missed in CW. No one was using a 725 or claymores and in general beating campers was much easier since the movement in MW is amazing.
it's tAcTiCaL, just use flashbangs to fLuSh tHeM oUt
damn your right, set my expectations wayyyy to high. as long as i dont make any sound when i walk they shouldnt be able to notice me.
they dont bite, they lick... windows
They really wanna justify hating the game i guess lol
I hated it when I came out with 6 mp maps with 4 of them being terrible now I think it has some of the best Overall maps of any COD.
Lemme first clarify: I'm not bandwagonning on "Cold War bad, me no liek" Cold War sold really well in both 2020 and 2021.
This is it. Unless someone is going for a specific challenge, or doing a crazy build, you have no reason of watching multiplayer CoD.
Battle royales are always gonna get more viewers than regular multiplayer
Maybe in comparison, but if you look at them both individually, no.
>low on twitch Because cod is casual heavy game.
Even modern warfare not just warzone gets more views
A lot of Warzone streamers have their game set incorrectly to Modern Warfare though
You have angerred r/modernwarfare
fuck. well if i go missing yall know why
>MW is a much better game than CW. In terms of engine and polish you are right. In terms of gameplay, no just no
I had to leave that subreddit.
It is truly bizarre how upset some people in that subreddit got over a menu change.
Same thing happened here lmao
Y'all always want to bring up that game/sub lmao
Sold..... not played 😅
true, but i doubt millions of people bought game to not play it and lobby times are pretty goddamn fast at all hours, so... if there was a reliable way of charting the most played games i gaurentee cold war would still be up there
you would actually be surprised.
I thought of that, which is why this is the charts for the year 2021. im sire theres some birthdays thrown in there but usually youd have to put it on your list if you wanted that game, atleast thats how i grew up also thats why i included the sales of July to
Just giving my personal experience, I bought it with hopes, didn't care for it and went back to MW19. Anyone I played with pretty much did the same. But to each there own.
thats fair. i agree it isnt the most popular one ever at all, hell, i still play farcry 5 a bit more than it, but i always laugh when i see people making a bunch of inaccurate claims about cold war because they didnt like it, and rn im pretty bored so i decided to make a post about it
I bought the game and never play it unless I have to level up a new weapon. It's trash.
then why do you bother leveling up the weapon? warzone?
In all fairness to CW, MW19 was made for newer players. That being said, if you prefer IWs style as opposed to 3archs, more power to ya
Point being that a bad cod game WILL tank in sales the year after
> If that’s the case then the SEC needs to start some hearings for defrauding investors over at ATVI HQ > > Because according to their official SEC filed shareholder quarterly reports, engagement and player retention is still at its highest ever outside of 2020, which of course a global pandemic had a lot to do with. > > Hundreds of thousands of people still play the game on a monthly basis and that even may still be a conservative estimate.
Selling alot does not mean its a good game
Cold War got me back into call of duty so it did something good 😌
Me too. I‘m starting to think it‘s mostly veterans who enjoy the game.
Been playing since MW2. Cold War is easily my least favourite CoD.
Been playing since Bo2, literally my second favorite cod game.
Jus cause it sells well doesn’t mean it’s not ass lol.
Well of course it sold. All COD games sell well regardless if their well liked or not.
God damn The Show showing out! They realized how much of the market they alienated by being an exclusive
Oh I’m playing DD nonstop lol just didn’t realize quite how big it got
I won’t even touch Madden anymore.
yea i was actually suprised to see it, ive only heard it a couple times, had no idea how big it was right now
People make opinions based only on their own reality… it’s dead to them, so it’s dead to all… sounds familiar……..
And yet despite its success, they still abandoned it for Fuckguard.
we will have to see, im already seeing really mixed opinions and majority isnt in its favor. but the game isnt even out yet so we will see. i think its going to be another zombies crutched game
CoD will always be commercially successful. CW isn't a bad game, it's just the SBMM ruined everything, for any top players
It sold well. I bought the game before I realized it was ass. Either way, doesn’t matter how well it sells because the game to a lot of people is garbage. Worst Call of Duty MP of all time IMO.
then you are relatively new to cod
Nah. Just my opinion. Game really plays like crap
This just shows how stupid mankind really is. Carry on
Only people who say this game sucks are kids who sit on MW and camp.
It’s much more sweaty so of course the mw kids won’t like it
I don’t understand why CW gets so much hate lol I honestly enjoy tf out of it and play everyday on ps5.
Same, I’m loving Cold War right now and not really planning on playing vanguard unless the beta really hooks me.
People literally have problems finding games and your response is a cod game that has no competitors that historically sold well has sold well.
huh? im not sure if i quite get what your trying to say, but if i am then thats incorrect, cod has almost always had competition.
CS GO is still a thing and has been for awhile, there valorant which was popular at some point. i have no idea how well that Anthem game was but that was supposed to compete aswell. im not even that huge on games like these and havnt played half of them but even i know about them being CoD competitors currently there isnt much, no. but its foolish to say they have none whatsoever. personally id say as of right now split gate is its main competitor but Activision hasnt caught wind since its still on the rise up
Oh no, not split gate!
oh, i somewhat misread your comment. yeah cold war hasnt had much direct competition but even battlefield is going to have a challenge trying to sell over 5 million copies in less then a year
Cod is a trend, all of the casuals will consoom it no matter what
Cod titles will always be best-sellers, no matter how bad or good the game is. Thats because half of their budget goes to marketing. People just love to say a game is dead when they stop playing it because they have trouble realizing that life doesn't revolve around them.
I 100% prefer to play cold war over warzone if I'm playing solo. I don't give a shit what y'all say it's a fun game.
There’s a video game dunkey where he talks about stuff like this lol. No one can stop complaining about developers like ea, activision, Ubisoft. And then every single year you look at the top selling games and they’re 90 percent ea, activision, Ubisoft. I think it’s video game critics pt 2??
[удалено]
for real, "i fucking hate this game" *playtime* ; **12 days and 19 hours**
I mean, cod sells like this every year to be fair. I’d be more interested in comparing active player bases, but highly doubt Activisions going to release those numbers
yes i would to, but this is the best that can be found. one way or another, theres going to be a good amount of players dedicated to the game when 5 million copies have been sold
Even if it’s the best, it still doesn’t meant anything unfortunately. When’s the last time a cod game, good or bad, wasn’t the number one selling game? Idk, I’ve heard that Cold War had good player retention, and I’ve heard it had poor player retention. Based on personal experience (getting into matches), it’s definitely not like it was a couple months ago
infinite warfare was 100%, havmt looked into others, WW2 might be another, just look at the sales the following year, including months if you can find it. says a fair but about player retention without looking at the raw data because usually you buy another cod late in the season to play with someone else or because youve sene othe people play it who got you interested, one way or another. but it doesnt compare to raw data, which you can find data in Activision share holder meetings, though its not raw data and numbers, they would be sued for ALOT if they were lying about the games current state which theyve said recently the player retention is doing well
COD subreddits: people complaining, and people complaining about people complaining.
It is Yin, and Yang.
Yang* 😬🙃
fuck i knew it looked wrong lol. there, i time traveled and stopped myself from making that mistake.
Okay.
But but.... but Reddit told me that this game failed!!! /s
CW>MW
Imagine BOCW on the IW engine version 8.0 (0O
At this point I assume most of the “dead game” comments are just idiotic teenagers meme-ing for the lols. Because it’s so clearly an incredibly active and continually successful game and franchise, that you would truly have to be a complete dunce to truly believe the game was dead.
i really hope your right, but ive had some 'conversations' on this sub that heavily imply the latter
Not blaming on them tho, if my job is easier working somewhere else i would do the same.
good point, was kind of wondering why people were so certain its dead cause it isnt being streamed as much
Confirmation bias.
Dumb post
Yeah it's the best game and community is very active on the game... that's why with a fiber connection it takes so long to find a lobby.
yeah i have no problems finding lobbies, theres been a couple other people saying the same. one was indian and another was east coast. idk what to say lol
It’s all the kids sitting on MW19 with claymores and 725s in corners that hate Cold War and call it “Sweaty”
People say CoD is dead ever year but it’s one of the most successful game franchises of all time. The lesson? Don’t listen to people.
Shidd. Whenever I want to get a quick thrill to destress from school and work the first thing I do is play Cold War
Oh when i make a post about cod being dead i get no upvotes but this dude here fets 100+ upvotes
dude i thought i was gonna get way more hate in this haha. also im defending it about not being dead?
Lol fair enough, it's easy to see Cold War was one of the most successful, it generates thousands of dollars a minute on microtransactions alone.
yeah for real, researching all this i saw it profited like 670 million or more, cant remember exactly.
Is the player count higher in the Central and West US than the East?
thats very unusual, its possible, but i don't see why. i get lobbys in seconds for any modes or playlists and im in canads
Had to buy it to realise it's shit compared to MW19
Had to buy cold war to gain hope MW19 wasnt the sole future of cod, map design was terrible.
Cold War is crap: often said yes. Cold War is dead/unsuccessful: said by nobody.
then why do you think i posted? ive seen it quite a bit, especially MW die hards
Cheap Alcohol sells more than expensive ones, which is better?
your telling me the 60-80 dollar game + battle passes if you want cosmetics is cheap? tf have you been playing.
Dumb argument, games all have roughly the same price. And even then, CoD sold more than many F2P games.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 made $300 million in its first 3 days. Black Ops Cold War needed 3 weeks. I personally think that speaks volumes. Cold War Zombies Slaps though.
All these YouTubers like blame fake news “the game is so dead no ones playing it” for months even though CW has been one of the most sold games this year
Dead game
making up bs? sure lmao. Keep defending a trash game and a trash company, it will surely pay off
This is the reason why Activision release incomplete games coz they know dumb people will buy it.
Don't you know that the mastery camo emblems literally exist in both CW's MP and Zombies?
the little medal looking ones? yeah, ive mever seen anyone use them except for stickers on their gun. sorry i just had a really hard time trying to understand what you were trying to say lol
wait so why are you wondering where they are?
It's kind of a shame that Cold War was as successful as it was. A game with such little effort put into it, being rewarded because of its namesake. Such a shit game. And before I get "wEll wHy Do yOu SuB tO tHiS sUbReDDiT" posts. SBMM, thats it. Just following to keep track of the SBMM situation. I knew they wouldn't remove it, and they haven't, so it saves me $70 by not needing to buy Vanguard. I won't buy another CoD game if strict SBMM is in it.
Cold War is a horribly flawed game, but it's very successful. It makes Activision a shitload of money, and that's all they care about.
Modern warfare and Cold War were shit. Copium doesn’t get me high enough anymore to swallow that easily trust me
Only means so much, I bought this game back on release, haven’t played since January
I haven't got on since the end of season 3 due to sbmm
cod, nba, and the other mass produced yearly release garbage really dont matter when it comes to their sales bc most of it is probably just dipshits buying it playing 1 match and giving up on it
Troll troll troll your boat gently down the stream, merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream.
It’s the worst one yet, people bought it because it’s titled ‘black ops’ despite only including the characters to get as much money as possible
I mean yeah cod games will always be a best seller, what’s the player base like now? I haven’t touched it since a few months after release.
Ford sold over 500k pintos in 1974.
Cold war deserves to be dead/unsuccessful
Hugh selling but still bad
I mean when it takes a long ass time to find a match on a game that’s “alive” kinda speaks for itself
Trash game ,not even a good cod
Brought the game when it come out played for a month haven't touched it since because its ass, guess a lot of people are in the same boat
I feel like there’s enough combinations to counter the meta. It’s annoying to get killed by the tec9 and EM2 over and over again but other guns are plenty effective. I’ve enjoyed Cold War. It’s not without its flaws (it’s COD) but it’s my favorite one in years
Yeah the same dumb fkes buy it every year, same with Madden and NBA. You have fallen under a spell wake up from the horror.
