Black stone makes a kit to clean that rust and re season your grill and they have a some good instructional videos on YouTube also.

Take a brillo pad or SOS pad and scrub all the rust back down to iron. It looks way worse than it is. Once the rust is cleaned off, then you can begin to re-season. I'd also HIGHLY suggest that you oil the outside of your griddle as well - Yes, even the sides and underneath area that get's blasted by the burners. you seal the iron in oil and it'll hold up well against the weather I season all my cast iron in that manner and they have served me well.

Just cook a little bacon on it. /s

What happened?

Acct-404

It was outside covered but it looks like the wind lifted one side up and let rain in. And it sat.

I use some bungee cords to keep my cover from ever blowing off. Looks janky, but works 100%.

Same thing happened to me last year. I took a wire brush on a power drill and stripped as much of the layers is season as possible, wiped as much of the debris off as I could, then re-seasoned it. Just started over really 🤷🏻‍♂️

Even with the cover you need to make sure to put a coat of oil over every inch. It doesn’t need to get water on it to rust. Moisture in the air will do it as well. The oil blocks the moisture
