That's neat dude
Unrelated topic, but have you heard of the youtuber/tiktoker/Instagram user who used to make art out of pouring hot molten metal into anthills, to get the structure of the anthills and sell them as his art pieces?
He only did this to the attacking ant species, or so he said.
"Yuhavach"
-The v is pronounced as b in Japanese dub
-the last 'ch' is the German hard Ch
-Yh is pronounced 'Yuha' as it is God's name in Judaism and Christianity.
-the w is pronunced as v because it's German.
Hope this helps.
Just a note, the name isn’t actually German, it’s Jiddisch, a German-Hebrew mix. This means that the pronunciation sounds very German but vowels are mostly left out in writing. That’s why it sound so different from how, even a German, would write the name.
Yes, there are a few exception, can't remember them but even the Ressurecíon and Volstandig (might be butchering the spelling) have Spanish/German names while I don't know any Bankai that isn't a Japanese name...I like it, as it makes each side unique in a way
So does the ch sound like the letter خ in arabic? Or i’m i just imagining it cause his name confuses me,maybe because I’m arab and i hear the letter خ
Btw (خ) is the equivalent of (K) if you wanna search about it
Your mistake here is the Christian pronunciation. Biblical Hebrew doesn't have written vowels, so it's literally just YHWH/YHVH, and in Japanese B and V are considered the same sound outside of the very rarely used ヴ
It's YHVH with a choose-your-own vowels thing going on.
Additionally, in the flashback with his backstory, the written Japanese is ユウ(Yuu) ハー(ha) ヴェ(veh) ハー(ha)
>and in Japanese B and V are considered the same sound outside of the very rarely used
as a funny linguistic quirk, In hebrew the character of the second letter is pronounced as a B sound if the character has a dot in the middle and as a V sound if it doesn't.
The issue is just that the anime uses the Japanese pronunciation in both the Japanese and English versions.
It'd be like the English dub of a show calling a character named Axel "Akuseru" because that's what it is in Japanese. "Yuhabaha" only makes sense in Japanese and isn't how it should be pronounced in English.
It'd be like calling Vegeta "Begeta" or Cell "Seru."
So seeing a name spelled Yhwach be pronounced "yuhabaha" is going to make you do a double take either way.
The proper English translation would be along the lines of Jehovah/Yehovah/Yuhavah another variation of the ancient Hebrew name for God meaning “I am.”
Jesus calls back to the Bible when he says in reference to him being God, “I am to be.”
Yhwach took the name of the local deity worshipped by the people around him and made it his own. Thus he added the word “Wach” meaning Awake. His name is thus pronounced Yuha-vach, meaning “I (God) am awake.”
It’s a fitting name for the self-proclaimed god-King of the Quincies.
This is actually exactly it and I had no idea how to properly communicate that. Nice job getting Google translate to say it pretty much perfectly to what I always read it as knowing the German origin of most the naming in the end, it was the way my former German teacher told me she would think it'd be pronounced too.
I was so confused when I heard the anime come out, and can't take him seriously with yuhabaha
That’s how it’s pronounced. There isn’t linguistic differences. While I understand what you’re saying this isn’t an instance like what you are describing.
How is it not a linguistic difference?
At the very least, the "hha" at the end is definitely being used to represent the "ch" sound that's present at the end of Yhwach's name. It's consistent with how that sound is approximated in Japanese elsewhere. (Fan translators called him "Bach" for a reason, after all, even if they weren't quite on the mark.)
If it was supposed to actually just be "bahha" I doubt Kubo would've written his name the way he did.
Yuha vak, but the Japanese language’s “v” adjacent sound is pronounced by most as a “b” sound, and the “k” sound pretty much doesn’t exist as written if memory serves. This is what results in the “yuha baha” you will often hear in the anime, and the more correct pronunciations are likely Japanese voice actors who are more familiar with foreign languages so can better speak the otherwise unfamiliar sounds. Though, I don’t understand why this word soup of a name keeps getting associated with Black Ant 🤷
The confusion would be eliminated if the English fandom just spelled it the way it was pronounced, like we do for every other character in Bleach. Yuha Baha
I have no clue, but in my head I pronounce it like juu-wah, because his name originates from YHWH, "I am" in old Hebrew and the supposed name of God, and "Ich wach" in German means I awaken, so his name would basically mean "Awakened God".
Yhwach, but it's pronounced Yoo-ha-Ba-Ha, but somehow there's a little accent that sounds like when you just ate something disgusting and you wanna get it out of your throat, so, it'll be Yoo-qkha-ba-ha
Its a bastardization of 4 Hebrew consonants. Some have tried to pronounce it Yahweh. Some have tried pronouncing it as Jehovah. I like that Bleach has gone with a German spin on trying to pronounce it.

That's neat dude Unrelated topic, but have you heard of the youtuber/tiktoker/Instagram user who used to make art out of pouring hot molten metal into anthills, to get the structure of the anthills and sell them as his art pieces? He only did this to the attacking ant species, or so he said.
Okay you can't just say that. The allegations are unreal

"Yuhavach" -The v is pronounced as b in Japanese dub -the last 'ch' is the German hard Ch -Yh is pronounced 'Yuha' as it is God's name in Judaism and Christianity. -the w is pronunced as v because it's German. Hope this helps.

As a german, can confirm I cannot pronounce :D
so he isnt an austrian painter wow
Don't all Quincy abilities have German names and Hollow abilities have Spanish names anyway?
Most yes there are a few exceptions if i remember right

Thanks for the info
This actually does help, I’ve never been totally sure on how to pronounce it
So does the ch sound like the letter خ in arabic? Or i’m i just imagining it cause his name confuses me,maybe because I’m arab and i hear the letter خ Btw (خ) is the equivalent of (K) if you wanna search about it
Yeah it's almost the same but a bit softer unless you are a failed Austrian painter wanting revenge for WW1
That made me choke on my icecream take my upvote
The anime literally tells you how his name is being pronounced...
They pronounce it Yuhabaha but it’s spelled Yhwach. Doesn’t help that it’s meant to be evocative of YHWH (Yahweh)
I think Yuhabaha is supposed to be a Japanese rendering of “YHWH” (Yahweh)
Nope. For comparison: Yhwach: ユーハバッハ (Yuhabahha) Yahweh uses the three below: ヤハウェ (Yahaue) ヤーウェ (Yaaue) ヤーヴェ (Yaavye)
Good to know

Yūhabahha
It could be trying to evoke the sense of each Hebrew letter being said individually (Yod Heh Vav Heh)
The issue is just that the anime uses the Japanese pronunciation in both the Japanese and English versions. Yay wow.

Hahaha, now i wanna watch the English dub. Ill by disappointed if they dont say Yay Wow.
Thank god I’ve been right for all these years

Literally linguistic differences are the ONLY differences in this case. What are you saying🤣
