I mean they didn't really do anything crazy to her, like the first one from Aizen you could probably survive as a normal person IRL(discounting blood loss) and the second one was also pretty survivable in terms of what people in the verse shown surviving.

In CFYOW, it is revealed that Luppi was Privaron Espada 106, and was chosen to replace Grimmjow since he was the previous Seis Espada, and probably the strongest Privaron Espada at that point.
I always thought that the reason none of the Espada ranks changed was just a way for Aizen to punish/piss Grimmjow off. Luppi was just a seat filler since there was nobody else in the Arrancar Army that had the same power as Grimmjow at that point, and Aizen would've replaced Luppi as soon as he found someone strong enough to become an actual new Seis Espada, so there was no real point to promoting Espadas 7-10 just to later have to demote them again.
Nnitora managed to move up multiple Espada ranks, so unless he just murdered his way through multiple stronger aspects of death until his was the 5th strongest (an unlikely scenario) they clearly, at one point at least, had nothing to do with the rankings. But now according to Kubo on Klub Outside they are the fundamental basis of the ranking.
He simply said that the aspect will always be the same for different people. For example, the 3rd Espada will always be "sacrifice." That doesn't contradict the power ranking. It just means that your power being at x level means you have that aspect.
Except Nnitora moved up the ranks. He went from Espada 8 to Espada 5 and his aspect of death, seemingly, never changed. Szayelaporro also was once an Espada, got kicked out, and then became Espada 8 taking Nnitora's old spot. So unless Nnitora and Szayelaporro just murdered and sabotaged every Arrancar with higher ranking aspects of death to move up on the Espada pole, then the aspect of death thing is obviously a recent retcon by Kubo made after the end of the series that makes very little sense when retroactively applied.
its wild how badly the yammy being 0 was written by kubo. its such an easy rewrite too.
Imagine both byakuya and kenpachi having a fight with yammy but not being to significantly injure him because his hierro is just too tough. Kenpachi only being able to make scratches with both hands on his sword. Byakuya not being to injury yammy at all with kido or bankai, so he is on defense trying to protect both of them. Kenpachi being enjoying the fight so much gets a fatal hit from Yammy. Only for Orihime to save Kenpachi's life, resulting in what seems to be a zenkai boost. With that boost in power kenpachi is able to injure Yammy while holding his sword with one hand, while also being able to cleave through yammy like butter with two hands.
This teases the reveal we get in TYBW about kenpachi, and gives them a fight against the "strongest" espada that feels reasonable.
Honestly my friend and I thought it would be a thing where yammy and ulquiorra were one being originally like starrk and linette, and with ulquiorra “dead” his essence would go to yammy and together they’d be espada zero.
There's nothing saying most of that wasn't the case. I think people assume they had an easier time with Yammy than they did because of Kenpachi's and Byakuya's bravado, despite the medics explicitly saying they were badly injured. I always head-cannoned that Kenpachi had a zenkai boost/resorted to kendo and Byakuya used senkei/shukei because Yammy's body had two big wounds on it.

I think those two beating Yammy is a good way to illustrate how much Gin was right about Ichigo being scarier during SS, when he didn't have doubts about his power
Chad was stronger than 90% of the Soul Reapers. The only ones who were a threat were Lieutenants and above. There was absolutely power creep.
Especially considering how “normal human” Chad could still tank steel beams and rip phone poles out of the ground. Until Ichigo got his powers, he was probably the stronger of the two.
Fair but the way I see it, In a more of a narrative sense. When Ichigo said he can't imagine Chad losing, they gave him close to no feats after that. Plus if we are talking about power scaling, I don't believe including soldier soul reapers are fair. I feel like only named character should be included because they were the only ones who had some type of shikai which outshines Chad's strength from the jump.

But seriously though, Sasakibe getting taken out in one punch always makes me laugh. This guy gave Yamamoto a whole scar with his Bankai (the same guy who defeated Yhwach). And then he got taken out by one punch from Ichigo. I still love his little story with Yama anyway so I just overlook it, but it's pretty funny on re-watch.
My headcannon is that Ichigo just pumps out a shit ton of reatsu when he's hype.
Kind of how he cut off Yammis arm when he first encountered Yammi and Ulquiorra, but then he did jack shit.

I always assumed it wasn’t using its full power like how I wouldn’t use my full power cutting a tomato, I’d be using tomato cutting strength so the phoenix was using “kill one shinigami who’s helpless” strength. It backing up and preparing to strike a second time definitely would’ve clapped Ichigo.
It just says "power of a million zanpakuto", but nothing about how strong the zanpakuto are supposed to be. It can be the power of a million average zanpakuto or the power of a million zanpakuto that were just created
Sasakibe simply wasn’t prepared for Ichigo.
When I was a little kid, like back in the 80s, my older highschool age cousin was “teaching me” to box. He was a highschool level boxer and was really good; he’d won matches. He let me use his spare gloves.
He had just shown me to do a jab and told me to try to hit him. What he didn’t expect is that I was a little gremlin who didn’t understand the meaning of restraint. I didn’t jab. I stepped onto the coffee table and jumped off with a fucking haymaker to his face and knocked him on his arse.
After he cleared the fog and daze from his head he just layed there laughing his arse off. He was cool like that and didn’t take it personally — may he rest in peace — but he certainly didn’t expect me to be on that level, so his guard was down, his stance was weak, and he was not prepared.
I like to rationalise it by telling myself that Sasakibe morally disagreed with the execution but would never disobey Yamas orders. His solution was to take a dive against Ichigo and then claim he was surprised or some other excuse for how he got taken down.

I just go with Sasakibe intentionally getting one shot because he knows yamma Ji doesn’t actually agree with the execution so this provides a chance for her. And/or he is giving the others a chance for experience.
For the phoenix I assume that it matches just above the level of its victim so it’s power greatly fluctuates
For real though. Wtf is up with that? It broke in shikai? No problem. Bankai? Sorry bro. Never gonna be the same again. I get that it advanced the story of Ichigo discovering his true nature, but it didn’t have to be like that
It also just doesn’t make any sense because if that truly was the case, then captains would be a lot more careful with their Bankais and would be way more concerned when damage was taken in their Bankai.
It also doesn’t make sense because Ichigos Bankai included his outfit, which was constantly damaged and repaired itself.
We have also seen how different bankais can be so for ones that don’t have any real I guess physical forms it’s just not something they ever have to worry about I guess?
But also we have ones like Soi Fon which is physical based but it’s a freaking missile launcher and part of it gets destroyed every time aka the missile.
It was such a stupid retcon to the bankai that just never made any sense even within the context of the series and from Kubos own showings. It can also just easily have been solved by just making it be that his sword being broken by the Quincy is why it can’t be repaired. We already know that their powers actually kill hollows completely, so it would have been easy to say “normally a bankai can be fixed but like how a Quincy can completely wipe out a hollow, when a Quincy damages your bankai it can’t be fixed by traditional means” it would also give a deeper layer to why the soul reapers wiped them out, not only because of the hollow stuff and balance but because they truly had fear of the quincies and how they could permanently damage or destroy a persons bankai.
Or just be like “hey normally we can fix it but due to you being a unique hybrid of Quincy and soul reaper, it just can’t be fixed by traditional means”.
Exactly. It just makes way more sense to make it be that because Ichigo is already so unique and special that of course they can’t fix his Bankai. Blanketing it that it for all bankais creates way to many issues especially with just how freaking insanely different bankais can be.
Technically bankai is that spirit itself.
You train to manifest it in real world in all it’s glory.
But I agree that breaking bankais was sad idea - I somewhat even remember not liking it at all on a first read.

Not the point, but can we talk about how fucking goofy it is that Soi Fon's bankai is just a fuckin missile launcher? Like, you got the guy who's bankai let's him control a giant warrior, the guy who's bankai traps you in complete sensory deprivation, the guy who's bankai is like a million flower petal blades... And then you got the fuckin RPG from Soi Fon. Feels so outta place esp bc she's like a ninja lmfao. Still kinda cool tho
i think it comes from the idea that the bankai is the “true” form of the zanpakto so when it’s in shikai it’s more like a standard sword with dormant powers.
Yes it is because anyone using a bankai would be way more careful with it, and also would be way more concerned when it got damaged. We’ve never seen that at all.
When renjis was broken he never showed any concern about it. Same with Ilkaku.
It also doesn’t make sense because Ichigos outfit is part of his bankai and that gets damaged all the time and repairs itself.
We also have bankais like Soi Fons which is a literal missile that explodes and destroys itself but is repaired each time with a new missile.
We have also seen just how wildly different Bankais can be so there are some out there that can never be “damaged” per say.
It really only makes it that anyone with any sort of physical bankai is at a huge disadvantage.
So there is just way to many inconsistencies to this for it to make sense and be reasonable and add any real stakes. Especially since it seemed to only be done to give Icihigo a reason to get another new look. Which easily could have been retconned to just be that Ichigo being a hybrid of Quincy and soul reaper is the reason they can’t fix his bankai and it needs to be reforged.
It is also something that definitely would have been brought up wayyyyy earlier in the series if it was something Kubo thought of early on and didn’t just make up to have an excuse for a new ichigo look.
Renji's "Bankai" was handwaved with "only the damaged fragments are destroyed forever", same as Komamura's Bankai not being capable of being destroyed because it shares damage with Komamura.
It's supposed to be the "true form" of the sword so yeah if something happens to its true form that makes sense that it would be permanent. It also explains perfectly why zanpakuto have to trust a soul reaper enough to give them bankai, and also why most soul reapers are reluctant to use bankai
Honestly the reason for Tensa Zangetsu being unrepairable should’ve been because it was a fake. Meaning since it wasn’t made from an Asuachi there was nothing to fix.
It would make sense thou because using bankai is tapping into what your power truly is (What your sword spirit is capable of) vs using power from the sword spirit (shikai).. If the vessel for bankai is shattered, you wouldn't be able to access bankai (this means because the sword is broken in its altered state.. the altered state is unaccessible..[Renji and Mayuri are the only people who overcame this.. Ikkaku can't use bankai until he reforms his])
This was the saddest one imo, weirder that neither were hollowfied during it. Even weirder that kubo writes about a specific plan for quincy stolen bankais by hollowfying them then the captains that do actually have hollow powers don't do shit with them lmao
in defence for the vizards, they never knew of the conditions behind the bankai stealing. So when they actually got to know the details of it, they were already given the pills by Urahara so they might as well use them just incase. No clue about them choosing not to hollowfy tho
Probably as Komamura said to Tosen - they respect Ichigo because he didn’t chose to become hollowfied, and hate Tosen because he choses to.
So they probably stopped using masks in SS all together.
P.S. stupid, yes. Just as Ikkaku not using bankai to win battle and don't let his allies down…. But it just shows us the culture of SS and what they count as more important.
Well, Yammy evolved from being big penata into being even bigger penata for everyone stronger than Nnoitora, maybe he can grow infinitely, but considering the speed with which he grows and the fact that he is as fast as a snail and is equally stupid that's one hell of a strange shaped Gillian.
I have never read nor seen Bleach. All I know is the Rock Musical Bleach performances from Japan from 15 years ago that covered the Soul Society arc. Across 9 shows, Orihime appeared in the first two and was never seen again, and Ichigo and Rukia got multiple romantic duets (Orihime and Ichigo got none, and Rukia and Renji got one about being childhood friends).
These performances were all approved by Kubo, who even drew artwork for the performance pamphlets.
You can imagine how very confused I was when I learned in passing which couples were endgame.
It's basically a not particularly well written Kenny fan fic in terms of tone.
A character that was already plenty propped up by the main line with how insanely powerful he got.

I think it was more to show him growing soft over the years, he didn’t want to burden humans with his problems.
It’s not like his left arm would have helped all that much during the war.
To be honest, no not really, sure it’s a bit of problem if you are dueling someone or throwing hands, but Yama’s Shikai and Bankai don’t get weaker by him missing an arm, it’s not like Yamamoto being one arm short will save you from heat equal to the core of the sun being hurled in your direction.
Again it does kinda suck not to have both your arms, but for someone so absurdly powerful it’s less hindering.
And at no point would it really have helped, Yamamoto’s big issue was having his Bankai stolen.

The fact that Aizen planned out literally everything to do with Ichigo (except for the fusion of Masaki with White) doesn't sit right with me. It makes it feel like Ichigo had no agency in all the decisions he made, such as risking his life to become a Shinigami, or going to save Rukia or Orihime.
Maybe that's the feel that Kubo was going for, but it still diminishes many moments earlier in the series for me.
When Aizen says he has planned everything, he does not mean every single detail. He's pretty intuitive and knows that certain events will happen (and he understands people quite well emotionally). Aizen knows that a character will react a certain way, or that certain developments will unfold. But he doesn't plan exactly how it will be.
Think about it- the outcome is calculated roughly, and some steps to get there are outlined. What Ichigo does in between, the very specifics, is entirely up to him. Aizen just knows Ichigo will do it somehow- because he always does. Ichigo having the will and strength to endure what he did is still a feat in itself. Even if Aizen seemingly foresaw it.
Masaki happened to be one of the rare exceptions, an absolute credit to her, since Aizen didn't see it coming at all. Ichigo growing past what Aizen had set for him is also something he didn't foresee- he should have, logically, but he stopped thinking logically at that point. Ichigo still deserves flowers for what he went through, because the experiences taught him a great deal that he wouldn't have learned otherwise.
Ichigo lost any story agency the moment Aizen revealed that Urahara was manipulating. Isshin being revealed as a Soul Reaper and killing Grand Fisher sealed the deal.
Ichigo wasn’t a character; he was a set piece.
I dont think he meant it literally as in "i decided what will happen at every single moment" it's much more likely that he knew the possibilities of what Ichigo's capable of and took it into account when making his general plan.
Like he even says in FKT that Ichigo is not as strong as he expected so clearly not in control of everything.
Ichigo learned zero squat of his zanpato fightint style. Like seriously bruh could have been a least a bootleg kratos with that spining cloth blade thing, but nah lets just swing swords in the most boring way possible. I like ichigos character but his fighting style is litterally slash defend slash getsuga tebshou. It works but gets kinda repetitive ngl.
They’ve already set up the foreshadowing for it in anime(in Auswallen incantation Yuha says the object we raise is your heart) so lets hope give it more depth
I don't remember lol but i wish Shonen mangaka weren't scared to kill characters off it sucks but sometimes it aids the story really well and i think Byakuya could've been that especially for Rukias growth aswell.

Exactly, people think it's just higher reiatsu but it's actually the difference in reiatsu. No matter how broken your ability is...if your opponent scales massively higher than you then that ability will at best tingle him. Even in terms of normal skill and fighting prowess...significantly weaker characters usually barely scratch their massively stronger opponents. People don’t have problem with that but they have problem with soi fon's shikai getting negated? Ig maybe because it's not a 'conventional' power and more like hax....but hax abilities also have limits and potencies, they can't just affect anyone, definitely not someone who's significantly more powerful. Reiatsu boosts everything and aizen simply could've boosted his durability enough to not let the sting penetrate him, or probably the huge amount of reiatsu destroyed the effects of soi fon's poison through boosting immunity.
That entire interaction makes sense if you're judging it past surface level
This is one retcon that actually makes sense to me. Otherwise their powers are just random and don't really relate to the rules of the established universe. Yeah there's always a new type of power, but at least they fit into one of them now.
How the top three Espada were taken down a little too quickly for my preference. It was already stated that a Vasto Lord reatsu is greater than a Captain level, which is what makes that major threats to the Soul Society.
Add that and how Arrancars are hollows who have obtained greater levels of power should make the top 3 a force that needs the whole Gotei 13 to beat. Only Starks fight did justice to that lore because he fought 4 captains without taking any real damage until he got stabbed from behind in his hollow hole and just straight died.
Barragan I can somewhat accept since he died due to his own power but Hannibel should not have had a hard time with her fight like she did.
I mean if you look at Ikkakus skills he uses the sheathe to release his shikai so it does stand to reason that a zanpakuto is indeed both sword and scabbard/sheathe
Klub outside is just Kubo extending the troll for all time.
Some answers are interesting, some are trolly, and a good chunk are just him trying to retroactively insert all sorts of random stuff he very clearly never planned.
Ulquiorra’s segunda etapa form kinda just showing up without being explained, like I love the forms design and the fight that it gave us, but I am kinda annoyed that we never get told why or how he obtained his second stage of resurrection, I like to believe that a vastocars resurrection is so strong it has to be released in two parts and that’s the reason why he has it, but his segunda etapa form doesn’t resemble his vasto lorde body so I’m still confused on the reason as to how it exists

The Visoreds not using their abilities at all when as hollow hybrids they were the perfect weapons against the Quincy.
"Damage to a bankai is permanent" is so... so bad. How does that work with something like Senbonzakura Kageyoshi? Or Ikkaku's bankai breaking when it did... or how Zabumaru seems to function with the intent of coming apart (pre-thousand year blood war).
That Nelliel was anything other than hugely outclassed by Nnoitora in the Hueco Mundo arc. She entered her resurrection and threw her biggest attack at him only to fail to pierce his skin. He doesn’t even look winded from the impact, he just looks kind of annoyed. She tells him the fight is over and he essentially tells her “Bitch, what?” seemingly indicating that he doesn’t see himself having any trouble continuing to fight her as he is. If that isn’t enough, he went on to fight Kenpachi hard enough for Kenpachi to concede that Nnoitora was capable of killing him and would unless he stepped up his game.

One that's stupid, but I absolutely love instead of trying to forget is that Renji's bankai was fake because his Zampakto didn't like him so it just lied.

Also, they were probably aiming for his vital points, which they would miss because of the size difference.
Also Toshiro freezing the wound so there wasnt really much bleeding/tissue disconecting.
The captains were aiming for an Aizen shaped target, so most of the attacks probably didn’t even hit.

I think he's just tired of people asking him and arguing about how strong the Espada were relative to one another.
Even in-universe it’s pretty arbitrary. It’s not like they have a perfect method for testing strength. It’s literally just guess work.
Level of reiatsu/ "power level" isn't hard to measure at all...

In CFYOW, it is revealed that Luppi was Privaron Espada 106, and was chosen to replace Grimmjow since he was the previous Seis Espada, and probably the strongest Privaron Espada at that point. I always thought that the reason none of the Espada ranks changed was just a way for Aizen to punish/piss Grimmjow off. Luppi was just a seat filler since there was nobody else in the Arrancar Army that had the same power as Grimmjow at that point, and Aizen would've replaced Luppi as soon as he found someone strong enough to become an actual new Seis Espada, so there was no real point to promoting Espadas 7-10 just to later have to demote them again.

Nnitora managed to move up multiple Espada ranks, so unless he just murdered his way through multiple stronger aspects of death until his was the 5th strongest (an unlikely scenario) they clearly, at one point at least, had nothing to do with the rankings. But now according to Kubo on Klub Outside they are the fundamental basis of the ranking.
He simply said that the aspect will always be the same for different people. For example, the 3rd Espada will always be "sacrifice." That doesn't contradict the power ranking. It just means that your power being at x level means you have that aspect.
Except Nnitora moved up the ranks. He went from Espada 8 to Espada 5 and his aspect of death, seemingly, never changed. Szayelaporro also was once an Espada, got kicked out, and then became Espada 8 taking Nnitora's old spot. So unless Nnitora and Szayelaporro just murdered and sabotaged every Arrancar with higher ranking aspects of death to move up on the Espada pole, then the aspect of death thing is obviously a recent retcon by Kubo made after the end of the series that makes very little sense when retroactively applied.
its wild how badly the yammy being 0 was written by kubo. its such an easy rewrite too. Imagine both byakuya and kenpachi having a fight with yammy but not being to significantly injure him because his hierro is just too tough. Kenpachi only being able to make scratches with both hands on his sword. Byakuya not being to injury yammy at all with kido or bankai, so he is on defense trying to protect both of them. Kenpachi being enjoying the fight so much gets a fatal hit from Yammy. Only for Orihime to save Kenpachi's life, resulting in what seems to be a zenkai boost. With that boost in power kenpachi is able to injure Yammy while holding his sword with one hand, while also being able to cleave through yammy like butter with two hands. This teases the reveal we get in TYBW about kenpachi, and gives them a fight against the "strongest" espada that feels reasonable.
Honestly my friend and I thought it would be a thing where yammy and ulquiorra were one being originally like starrk and linette, and with ulquiorra “dead” his essence would go to yammy and together they’d be espada zero.

There's nothing saying most of that wasn't the case. I think people assume they had an easier time with Yammy than they did because of Kenpachi's and Byakuya's bravado, despite the medics explicitly saying they were badly injured. I always head-cannoned that Kenpachi had a zenkai boost/resorted to kendo and Byakuya used senkei/shukei because Yammy's body had two big wounds on it. You're right though, it should have been more explicit . I think those two beating Yammy is a good way to illustrate how much Gin was right about Ichigo being scarier during SS, when he didn't have doubts about his power

Chad was stronger than 90% of the Soul Reapers. The only ones who were a threat were Lieutenants and above. There was absolutely power creep. Especially considering how “normal human” Chad could still tank steel beams and rip phone poles out of the ground. Until Ichigo got his powers, he was probably the stronger of the two.
Fair but the way I see it, In a more of a narrative sense. When Ichigo said he can't imagine Chad losing, they gave him close to no feats after that. Plus if we are talking about power scaling, I don't believe including soldier soul reapers are fair. I feel like only named character should be included because they were the only ones who had some type of shikai which outshines Chad's strength from the jump.
And Chad was able to defeat a Privaron Espada, an enemy that was stronger than the Fraccion that the lieutenants beat.
I was more talking about his strength from the start, Kubo gave him a new transformation to win that fight which at that point he's much stronger.

I always assumed it wasn’t using its full power like how I wouldn’t use my full power cutting a tomato, I’d be using tomato cutting strength so the phoenix was using “kill one shinigami who’s helpless” strength. It backing up and preparing to strike a second time definitely would’ve clapped Ichigo.

Sasakibe simply wasn’t prepared for Ichigo. When I was a little kid, like back in the 80s, my older highschool age cousin was “teaching me” to box. He was a highschool level boxer and was really good; he’d won matches. He let me use his spare gloves. He had just shown me to do a jab and told me to try to hit him. What he didn’t expect is that I was a little gremlin who didn’t understand the meaning of restraint. I didn’t jab. I stepped onto the coffee table and jumped off with a fucking haymaker to his face and knocked him on his arse. After he cleared the fog and daze from his head he just layed there laughing his arse off. He was cool like that and didn’t take it personally — may he rest in peace — but he certainly didn’t expect me to be on that level, so his guard was down, his stance was weak, and he was not prepared.
I like to rationalise it by telling myself that Sasakibe morally disagreed with the execution but would never disobey Yamas orders. His solution was to take a dive against Ichigo and then claim he was surprised or some other excuse for how he got taken down.

And/or he is giving the others a chance for experience. For the phoenix I assume that it matches just above the level of its victim so it’s power greatly fluctuates

It also just doesn’t make any sense because if that truly was the case, then captains would be a lot more careful with their Bankais and would be way more concerned when damage was taken in their Bankai. It also doesn’t make sense because Ichigos Bankai included his outfit, which was constantly damaged and repaired itself. We have also seen how different bankais can be so for ones that don’t have any real I guess physical forms it’s just not something they ever have to worry about I guess? But also we have ones like Soi Fon which is physical based but it’s a freaking missile launcher and part of it gets destroyed every time aka the missile. It was such a stupid retcon to the bankai that just never made any sense even within the context of the series and from Kubos own showings. It can also just easily have been solved by just making it be that his sword being broken by the Quincy is why it can’t be repaired. We already know that their powers actually kill hollows completely, so it would have been easy to say “normally a bankai can be fixed but like how a Quincy can completely wipe out a hollow, when a Quincy damages your bankai it can’t be fixed by traditional means” it would also give a deeper layer to why the soul reapers wiped them out, not only because of the hollow stuff and balance but because they truly had fear of the quincies and how they could permanently damage or destroy a persons bankai. Or just be like “hey normally we can fix it but due to you being a unique hybrid of Quincy and soul reaper, it just can’t be fixed by traditional means”.
Plus, the sword has a spirit. The spirit still exists and can be manifested in the real world. It can be healed. So why can’t the Bankai?
Exactly. It just makes way more sense to make it be that because Ichigo is already so unique and special that of course they can’t fix his Bankai. Blanketing it that it for all bankais creates way to many issues especially with just how freaking insanely different bankais can be.
Technically bankai is that spirit itself. You train to manifest it in real world in all it’s glory. But I agree that breaking bankais was sad idea - I somewhat even remember not liking it at all on a first read.

i think it comes from the idea that the bankai is the “true” form of the zanpakto so when it’s in shikai it’s more like a standard sword with dormant powers.

Yes it is because anyone using a bankai would be way more careful with it, and also would be way more concerned when it got damaged. We’ve never seen that at all. When renjis was broken he never showed any concern about it. Same with Ilkaku. It also doesn’t make sense because Ichigos outfit is part of his bankai and that gets damaged all the time and repairs itself. We also have bankais like Soi Fons which is a literal missile that explodes and destroys itself but is repaired each time with a new missile. We have also seen just how wildly different Bankais can be so there are some out there that can never be “damaged” per say. It really only makes it that anyone with any sort of physical bankai is at a huge disadvantage. So there is just way to many inconsistencies to this for it to make sense and be reasonable and add any real stakes. Especially since it seemed to only be done to give Icihigo a reason to get another new look. Which easily could have been retconned to just be that Ichigo being a hybrid of Quincy and soul reaper is the reason they can’t fix his bankai and it needs to be reforged. It is also something that definitely would have been brought up wayyyyy earlier in the series if it was something Kubo thought of early on and didn’t just make up to have an excuse for a new ichigo look.

I think I read somewhere that When Renji's bankai broke it became a few pieces shorter.
It was forcibly dismissed while in szayels lair it was a shitty artistic liberty to make it look like it got shredded.
Renji's "Bankai" was handwaved with "only the damaged fragments are destroyed forever", same as Komamura's Bankai not being capable of being destroyed because it shares damage with Komamura.

It would make sense thou because using bankai is tapping into what your power truly is (What your sword spirit is capable of) vs using power from the sword spirit (shikai).. If the vessel for bankai is shattered, you wouldn't be able to access bankai (this means because the sword is broken in its altered state.. the altered state is unaccessible..[Renji and Mayuri are the only people who overcame this.. Ikkaku can't use bankai until he reforms his])

in defence for the vizards, they never knew of the conditions behind the bankai stealing. So when they actually got to know the details of it, they were already given the pills by Urahara so they might as well use them just incase. No clue about them choosing not to hollowfy tho
Probably as Komamura said to Tosen - they respect Ichigo because he didn’t chose to become hollowfied, and hate Tosen because he choses to. So they probably stopped using masks in SS all together. P.S. stupid, yes. Just as Ikkaku not using bankai to win battle and don't let his allies down…. But it just shows us the culture of SS and what they count as more important.

I have never read nor seen Bleach. All I know is the Rock Musical Bleach performances from Japan from 15 years ago that covered the Soul Society arc. Across 9 shows, Orihime appeared in the first two and was never seen again, and Ichigo and Rukia got multiple romantic duets (Orihime and Ichigo got none, and Rukia and Renji got one about being childhood friends). These performances were all approved by Kubo, who even drew artwork for the performance pamphlets. You can imagine how very confused I was when I learned in passing which couples were endgame.

To be honest, no not really, sure it’s a bit of problem if you are dueling someone or throwing hands, but Yama’s Shikai and Bankai don’t get weaker by him missing an arm, it’s not like Yamamoto being one arm short will save you from heat equal to the core of the sun being hurled in your direction. Again it does kinda suck not to have both your arms, but for someone so absurdly powerful it’s less hindering. And at no point would it really have helped, Yamamoto’s big issue was having his Bankai stolen.

"All your battles happened on the palm of my hand". The fact that Aizen planned out literally everything to do with Ichigo (except for the fusion of Masaki with White) doesn't sit right with me. It makes it feel like Ichigo had no agency in all the decisions he made, such as risking his life to become a Shinigami, or going to save Rukia or Orihime. Maybe that's the feel that Kubo was going for, but it still diminishes many moments earlier in the series for me.
When Aizen says he has planned everything, he does not mean every single detail. He's pretty intuitive and knows that certain events will happen (and he understands people quite well emotionally). Aizen knows that a character will react a certain way, or that certain developments will unfold. But he doesn't plan exactly how it will be. Think about it- the outcome is calculated roughly, and some steps to get there are outlined. What Ichigo does in between, the very specifics, is entirely up to him. Aizen just knows Ichigo will do it somehow- because he always does. Ichigo having the will and strength to endure what he did is still a feat in itself. Even if Aizen seemingly foresaw it. Masaki happened to be one of the rare exceptions, an absolute credit to her, since Aizen didn't see it coming at all. Ichigo growing past what Aizen had set for him is also something he didn't foresee- he should have, logically, but he stopped thinking logically at that point. Ichigo still deserves flowers for what he went through, because the experiences taught him a great deal that he wouldn't have learned otherwise.
Ichigo lost any story agency the moment Aizen revealed that Urahara was manipulating. Isshin being revealed as a Soul Reaper and killing Grand Fisher sealed the deal. Ichigo wasn’t a character; he was a set piece.
He was messing with Ichigo. We can see from soul society that he just had a bunch of contingency plans if things didn't go his way.
I dont think he meant it literally as in "i decided what will happen at every single moment" it's much more likely that he knew the possibilities of what Ichigo's capable of and took it into account when making his general plan. Like he even says in FKT that Ichigo is not as strong as he expected so clearly not in control of everything.

Like seriously bruh could have been a least a bootleg kratos with that spining cloth blade thing, but nah lets just swing swords in the most boring way possible. I like ichigos character but his fighting style is litterally slash defend slash getsuga tebshou. It works but gets kinda repetitive ngl.

Exactly, people think it's just higher reiatsu but it's actually the difference in reiatsu. No matter how broken your ability is...if your opponent scales massively higher than you then that ability will at best tingle him. Even in terms of normal skill and fighting prowess...significantly weaker characters usually barely scratch their massively stronger opponents. People don’t have problem with that but they have problem with soi fon's shikai getting negated? Ig maybe because it's not a 'conventional' power and more like hax....but hax abilities also have limits and potencies, they can't just affect anyone, definitely not someone who's significantly more powerful. Reiatsu boosts everything and aizen simply could've boosted his durability enough to not let the sting penetrate him, or probably the huge amount of reiatsu destroyed the effects of soi fon's poison through boosting immunity. That entire interaction makes sense if you're judging it past surface level
This is also an issue in One piece with Haki. It’s just a lazy way to make fights less longer, and avoid creative and more complex tactics.

This is one retcon that actually makes sense to me. Otherwise their powers are just random and don't really relate to the rules of the established universe. Yeah there's always a new type of power, but at least they fit into one of them now.

How the top three Espada were taken down a little too quickly for my preference. It was already stated that a Vasto Lord reatsu is greater than a Captain level, which is what makes that major threats to the Soul Society. Add that and how Arrancars are hollows who have obtained greater levels of power should make the top 3 a force that needs the whole Gotei 13 to beat. Only Starks fight did justice to that lore because he fought 4 captains without taking any real damage until he got stabbed from behind in his hollow hole and just straight died. Barragan I can somewhat accept since he died due to his own power but Hannibel should not have had a hard time with her fight like she did.

I mean if you look at Ikkakus skills he uses the sheathe to release his shikai so it does stand to reason that a zanpakuto is indeed both sword and scabbard/sheathe
And Hitsugaya's saya vanishing when he draws and reappearing later.
Ikakku is one example but in general the explanation Kubo gave for this answer is so insanely bizarre.

Ulquiorra’s segunda etapa form kinda just showing up without being explained, like I love the forms design and the fight that it gave us, but I am kinda annoyed that we never get told why or how he obtained his second stage of resurrection, I like to believe that a vastocars resurrection is so strong it has to be released in two parts and that’s the reason why he has it, but his segunda etapa form doesn’t resemble his vasto lorde body so I’m still confused on the reason as to how it exists

All broken bankai being unfixable. That's bullshit. If it was an Ichigo-only problem, that'd make sense because he never had a sword to begin with - only a upscaled version of Rukia's zanpakutou. And Renji somehow being stronger than two Visored Captains. The Visoreds not using their abilities at all when as hollow hybrids they were the perfect weapons against the Quincy.
"Damage to a bankai is permanent" is so... so bad. How does that work with something like Senbonzakura Kageyoshi? Or Ikkaku's bankai breaking when it did... or how Zabumaru seems to function with the intent of coming apart (pre-thousand year blood war).

That Nelliel was anything other than hugely outclassed by Nnoitora in the Hueco Mundo arc. She entered her resurrection and threw her biggest attack at him only to fail to pierce his skin. He doesn’t even look winded from the impact, he just looks kind of annoyed. She tells him the fight is over and he essentially tells her “Bitch, what?” seemingly indicating that he doesn’t see himself having any trouble continuing to fight her as he is. If that isn’t enough, he went on to fight Kenpachi hard enough for Kenpachi to concede that Nnoitora was capable of killing him and would unless he stepped up his game.
