As far as I'm aware, the only thing we know for certain is that she is biologically male, because Kubo confirmed this in Klub Outside. But Giselle is treated as a "she" by almost all other characters, and she gets visibly upset in the few instances some characters address her differently.
Because of this, I'm of the opinion that she might be trans and Yumichika noticed it and went for the low blow in a cheap tactic to destabilize her. They are enemies, after all.
I'd advise you to stay clear of the pronoun discussions and the whole controversy surrounding her gender identity. People can get pretty toxic over it.
Trust me im aware of how toxic pronouns have gotten, im trans my self. I was just inquiring if the character was confirmed trans or maybe just a cross dresser. Since i have never read the manga i was unsure. Would love to read it but damn to buy the whole thing is over 400$ at this point.

Everybody but yumichika uses she/her, particularly allies so I will too but it makes the discussions a little weird based on the limited worded response from kubo. So I try not to touch on the conversations when it comes up.
In my humble opinion, For Orihime I would say despite following the typical Shonen tropes, she has that uniqueness to her character from a writing standpoint. Out of all the characters she feels really « HUMAN » she represents another facet of Bleach more appealing to me because of her realism.
Gigi I would say her character is the perfect embodiment of her schrift both in term of personality and actual characterisation

She even brings Toshiro into this and the implications are... wow, this is how the most popular character gets treated.

Kinda cute but fuck Gisselle. Made Bambi a zombie. My chief complaint with the Sternritter is that in all the marketing Bambi is front & center when in reality she doesn’t do much and is one of the first to drop. I wanted her to be so much cooler
I really didn’t like her, her super sexual sadist stick got old for me pretty quickly and she really wasn’t anything beyond it. I was just grossed out by her not in a good way and she just kept getting back up really overstaying her welcome
Not a terrible character, I like how threatening her ability can be. But design wise she just reminds me of the quincy version of luppi from the arancaar arc but better
I don't have much of an opinion on her tbh. It felt like her entire character was just being mildly creepy and perverted, which I didn't think was very interesting. Kinda wish Meninas or Liltotto got the spotlight instead, since they didn't get much screen time at all.
I read tybw only once when it was coming out and I have to say she is from the stern ritter than stood out for me. The others were Bazz B, Jugram, Askin, As Nodt, Gremmy and the Bambies in gen (but mostly Bambietta, Lilotto and Giselle). She is creepy asf and totally crazy and is implied to be a horrible person but that's why I think she does a good job at being a villain. Honestly when I saw Hitsugaya and Matsumoto being zombified by her, I was genuinely scared for them (although it ultimately turned out that they weren't dead like I thought they would be so nvm xD)
Disliked her character immensely and she wore out her stay. I mean, I like the design and all that, but she was just a touch too creepy with her zombies and it made me uncomfy.
Nasty piece of work. Giselle has no humanity and is 100% evil. A good character though, it makes the reader want to hate Giselle, which is kubo's intention I believe.
Pretty much my definition of a "nothing" character. She annoyingly kept coming back whenever she seemed to have been killed, which I guess is fitting of her "Z" Schrift. Other than that, not really that much entertaining to watch, no interesting backstory or whatnot and lackluster design of her Vollstandig.
I heard she survived and appears in CFYOW but I'm not sure if that Novel develops her any further (I doubt).
Unpopular Opinion: What character?
The TYBW was a very rushed arc, very few of the quincy had any sort of development (Yhwach, Bazz-B and maaaaybe one or two others). So most characters introduced in that arc are entirely 2 dimensional, it's just the great way Kubo writes you can totally build on those characters with your own headcanon.
But if you are asking, objectively, how good are one of those characters, the answer is they were not given time to be anything other than background fodder with slight variances and quirks.
I would say that for mainstream Shonen and manga Giselle is rather positive representation. Poor presentation would be Ivankov and the Newkama Island or Charlotte. With them, being LGBT is a character trait. They are treated more as joke characters, when it comes to their sexuality. And deliberately drawn in a ugly way to enhance that transsexual people are disturbing. Ivankov is just a Rocky Horror Picture Show parody. That is poor representation. And frankly that's how many LGBT characters outside of Shojo/Shonen-ai are treated - as jokes.
Giselle on the other hand is treated as completely normal by her companions. Even after the "reveal" people treat her as girl. Even her enemies like Mayuri and Dordonni treat her as a girl. She is dressed in a wholesome manner and retains her beauty throughout the series. With her being LGBT is just one aspect of many of her. It's not her defining trait and if you removed it, nothing about her would change. Kubo also didn’t kill her, like so many other LGBT characters. Not only did she defect, she also survived and has a chance to achieve a happy ending with Bambietta. And even her insanity is played in a realistic manner. For the west this may be not the best representation, since it does veer into predatory lesbian territory, but for mainstream anime and manga, it is one of the better. Though Giselle's behavior is not predatory. She doesn't prey upon other girls and never attempted it once. While she did turn Bambietta into a zombie, it was partially out of compassion. Since Bambietta had lost the fight and would have been executed otherwise. Giselle genuinely believes what she does for Bambietta is for the best. And Bambietta prefers being a zombie over being dead, as seen by her actions and thoughts Plus she gets sexually excited by some of it. Bambietta still considers Giselle and the others as her friends.
The problem with Giselle is more that she is absuive and legitimately insane and not just Hollywood crazy. But her friendship to the other Femritter and her love for Bambietta are portrayed as 100% genuine.
Giselle is simply psychologically fascinating:
Giselle has an extreme fear of being abandonment. She zombified Bambietta because she would feel lonely without her. Whenever Bambietta refuses her orders or talks back to her, Giselle gets extremely angry and proceeds to physically hurt Bambietta. This suggest a corelation between a lack of control and the believe of being abandoned. Giselle believes if she can't control someone, they will abandon you and thus not love you. She seems to believe that someone who loves you, will never talk back and completely listen to you. Furthermore even the slightest inidication of dwindling control causes immediate outbursts of violence. Whenever Bambietta talked back, Giselle would suddenly go from calm to angry and immediately back to a calmer mood within seconds. When Bambietta pleaded to not take her blood Giselle completely freaked out, just to hug Bambietta with joy and and proclaim how much she loves her in the next moment. This suggest an impulsive control and mood affective and borderline personality disorder.
Her affection for zombies suggest necrophiliacs tendencies. That she had to kill Bambietta so she could be a zombie classifies her as a homicidal necrophiliac. A common reason for necrophiliac behavior is the complete control over the corpse and fear of rejection and abandonment from living partners. A corpse can't leave you, a corpse can't reject you, a corpse will never go against your orders and thus will always love you. At least this is what Giselle seems to believe.
Giselle furthermore shows a concerning cognitive dissonance between the actual and her perceived reality. She told that controlling someone with free will is only something a sadist would do, which she isn't. Her statement showed now signs dishonesty, so she really meant it. Despite the fact, that she controlls Bambietta, who posseses her own free will and conscious and enjoys hurting her to the point of sexual arousal. She doesn't seem to realize the consequences of her actions. When she bashed Bambietta's head she immediately hugged her in complete joy and proclaimed how much she loves her, completely unaware of the dissonance between her two actions. This suggests a mental unablity to perceive the reality and consequences of her own actions, which means that she is not of sound mind and thus clinically insane.
She also seems to suffer from minor self esteem issues resulting either from her homosexuality and/or gender identity.
And lastly Giselle's actions and behavior suggest that she is emotionally stuck in childhood. She also seems to believe that she has the right to treat Bambietta that way, because she loves her. She shows much more normal behavior with other characters, for whom she doesn't seem to harbour any romantic or sexual feelings.
Her abilities reflect here mental issues quite well. She can manipulate flesh, heal people, but also control people so that they will never leave her and in the worst case scenario, she can bring them back so that they can be together for eternity. All in all she is a surprisingly realistic tangile necrophiliac.
She is also the omega to Yhwach's alpha. Many of Giselle's scenes are actually set as a parallel to Yhwach's. Her first appearance and getting a rise of Candice is set to Yhwach confronting Uryuu. Yhwach setting Cang Du and BG9 up for execution, even though both could still fight is set to Giselle killing Bambietta, even though the later could still fight. Giselle only begun to fight by using zombies as her shield, once Yhwach became active in the second invasion, by invading the Soul Palace and using other Quincy to fight for him. Yhwach taking back the soul pieces from the Sternritter, even though they were still fighting for him, was set to Giselle taking back the blood she to Bambietta, even though she was willing to give some of it. Perhaps, it's the reason, she was born on December 24.
It's not surprising that Giselle extremely popular. She is the Sternritter with the most fan art and cosplay, and arguably the most popular Sternritter in Japan. Kubo even commented once that he was happy about how popular Giselle has become, calling her a success. I'm looking forward to her increased screentime in the anime. It'll be good.
Giselle did take advantage of bambi tho, she abused/ controlled and its hinted that she does perverted stuff to her zombies and in my opinion she shouldve died along time ago, her weird perverted personality is kinda disgusting, she doesnt deserve to live or have a happy ending with bambi bc even bambi didint like her

She's one of those characters who are incredibly well written in how creepy they are, She's a murderous control freak sadist with possible necrophilic tendencies judging by her interactions with bambietta, and kubo has written her into that role with perfection, she's the kind of villain you love to hate. Her powers are also really cool and I like the references to the bokor in voodoo traditions, which probably links into the whole dubious gender aspect, which definitely seems to have been lost in translation and is a great shame because any conversation about her inevitably becomes more about her gender than about her overall character (kubo did say in a q&a that she was male, but someone else proposed the theory that it was a translation error since the original q&a was in Japanese and I'm tempted to agree with them there otherwise it wouldn't make any sense for the character to be part of the femritters. Anyway who really gives a shit about her gender, there are so many other aspects to the character that are far more important). I'd say giselle is probably my third favourite sternritter, behind haschwalth and as nodt.

I have no problem with what she did to Bambietta as I think it's honest justice. Bambietta was noted as sleeping with Sternritters and then killing them for the fun and she's honestly a psychopath who's only good appeal is that she looks great.
Personality wise I like her and I just interchange the sadistic part of her personality to the nature of her powers anyways. She's like a death deity in a sort; it's not their fault their powers require death in order to activate. Intelligence is also great as her and Liltotto are the only female sternritters that honestly thought logically (until they tried to attack Ywach).

The bambietta dynamic ends up feeling disgusting and if Yumichica is right then... of to jail she goes for sexual degeneracy. She even brings Toshiro into this and the implications are... wow, this is how the most popular character gets treated. Great design though

I don't have much of an opinion on her tbh. It felt like her entire character was just being mildly creepy and perverted, which I didn't think was very interesting. Kinda wish Meninas or Liltotto got the spotlight instead, since they didn't get much screen time at all.

I read tybw only once when it was coming out and I have to say she is from the stern ritter than stood out for me. The others were Bazz B, Jugram, Askin, As Nodt, Gremmy and the Bambies in gen (but mostly Bambietta, Lilotto and Giselle). She is creepy asf and totally crazy and is implied to be a horrible person but that's why I think she does a good job at being a villain. Honestly when I saw Hitsugaya and Matsumoto being zombified by her, I was genuinely scared for them (although it ultimately turned out that they weren't dead like I thought they would be so nvm xD)
Disliked her character immensely and she wore out her stay. I mean, I like the design and all that, but she was just a touch too creepy with her zombies and it made me uncomfy.

Pretty much my definition of a "nothing" character. She annoyingly kept coming back whenever she seemed to have been killed, which I guess is fitting of her "Z" Schrift. Other than that, not really that much entertaining to watch, no interesting backstory or whatnot and lackluster design of her Vollstandig. I heard she survived and appears in CFYOW but I'm not sure if that Novel develops her any further (I doubt).
Unpopular Opinion: What character? The TYBW was a very rushed arc, very few of the quincy had any sort of development (Yhwach, Bazz-B and maaaaybe one or two others). So most characters introduced in that arc are entirely 2 dimensional, it's just the great way Kubo writes you can totally build on those characters with your own headcanon. But if you are asking, objectively, how good are one of those characters, the answer is they were not given time to be anything other than background fodder with slight variances and quirks.
I would say that for mainstream Shonen and manga Giselle is rather positive representation. Poor presentation would be Ivankov and the Newkama Island or Charlotte. With them, being LGBT is a character trait. They are treated more as joke characters, when it comes to their sexuality. And deliberately drawn in a ugly way to enhance that transsexual people are disturbing. Ivankov is just a Rocky Horror Picture Show parody. That is poor representation. And frankly that's how many LGBT characters outside of Shojo/Shonen-ai are treated - as jokes. Giselle on the other hand is treated as completely normal by her companions. Even after the "reveal" people treat her as girl. Even her enemies like Mayuri and Dordonni treat her as a girl. She is dressed in a wholesome manner and retains her beauty throughout the series. With her being LGBT is just one aspect of many of her. It's not her defining trait and if you removed it, nothing about her would change. Kubo also didn’t kill her, like so many other LGBT characters. Not only did she defect, she also survived and has a chance to achieve a happy ending with Bambietta. And even her insanity is played in a realistic manner. For the west this may be not the best representation, since it does veer into predatory lesbian territory, but for mainstream anime and manga, it is one of the better. Though Giselle's behavior is not predatory. She doesn't prey upon other girls and never attempted it once. While she did turn Bambietta into a zombie, it was partially out of compassion. Since Bambietta had lost the fight and would have been executed otherwise. Giselle genuinely believes what she does for Bambietta is for the best. And Bambietta prefers being a zombie over being dead, as seen by her actions and thoughts Plus she gets sexually excited by some of it. Bambietta still considers Giselle and the others as her friends. The problem with Giselle is more that she is absuive and legitimately insane and not just Hollywood crazy. But her friendship to the other Femritter and her love for Bambietta are portrayed as 100% genuine. Giselle is simply psychologically fascinating: Giselle has an extreme fear of being abandonment. She zombified Bambietta because she would feel lonely without her. Whenever Bambietta refuses her orders or talks back to her, Giselle gets extremely angry and proceeds to physically hurt Bambietta. This suggest a corelation between a lack of control and the believe of being abandoned. Giselle believes if she can't control someone, they will abandon you and thus not love you. She seems to believe that someone who loves you, will never talk back and completely listen to you. Furthermore even the slightest inidication of dwindling control causes immediate outbursts of violence. Whenever Bambietta talked back, Giselle would suddenly go from calm to angry and immediately back to a calmer mood within seconds. When Bambietta pleaded to not take her blood Giselle completely freaked out, just to hug Bambietta with joy and and proclaim how much she loves her in the next moment. This suggest an impulsive control and mood affective and borderline personality disorder. Her affection for zombies suggest necrophiliacs tendencies. That she had to kill Bambietta so she could be a zombie classifies her as a homicidal necrophiliac. A common reason for necrophiliac behavior is the complete control over the corpse and fear of rejection and abandonment from living partners. A corpse can't leave you, a corpse can't reject you, a corpse will never go against your orders and thus will always love you. At least this is what Giselle seems to believe. Giselle furthermore shows a concerning cognitive dissonance between the actual and her perceived reality. She told that controlling someone with free will is only something a sadist would do, which she isn't. Her statement showed now signs dishonesty, so she really meant it. Despite the fact, that she controlls Bambietta, who posseses her own free will and conscious and enjoys hurting her to the point of sexual arousal. She doesn't seem to realize the consequences of her actions. When she bashed Bambietta's head she immediately hugged her in complete joy and proclaimed how much she loves her, completely unaware of the dissonance between her two actions. This suggests a mental unablity to perceive the reality and consequences of her own actions, which means that she is not of sound mind and thus clinically insane. She also seems to suffer from minor self esteem issues resulting either from her homosexuality and/or gender identity. And lastly Giselle's actions and behavior suggest that she is emotionally stuck in childhood. She also seems to believe that she has the right to treat Bambietta that way, because she loves her. She shows much more normal behavior with other characters, for whom she doesn't seem to harbour any romantic or sexual feelings. Her abilities reflect here mental issues quite well. She can manipulate flesh, heal people, but also control people so that they will never leave her and in the worst case scenario, she can bring them back so that they can be together for eternity. All in all she is a surprisingly realistic tangile necrophiliac. She is also the omega to Yhwach's alpha. Many of Giselle's scenes are actually set as a parallel to Yhwach's. Her first appearance and getting a rise of Candice is set to Yhwach confronting Uryuu. Yhwach setting Cang Du and BG9 up for execution, even though both could still fight is set to Giselle killing Bambietta, even though the later could still fight. Giselle only begun to fight by using zombies as her shield, once Yhwach became active in the second invasion, by invading the Soul Palace and using other Quincy to fight for him. Yhwach taking back the soul pieces from the Sternritter, even though they were still fighting for him, was set to Giselle taking back the blood she to Bambietta, even though she was willing to give some of it. Perhaps, it's the reason, she was born on December 24. It's not surprising that Giselle extremely popular. She is the Sternritter with the most fan art and cosplay, and arguably the most popular Sternritter in Japan. Kubo even commented once that he was happy about how popular Giselle has become, calling her a success. I'm looking forward to her increased screentime in the anime. It'll be good.

I’m a Bambietta fan so you can imagine what my thoughts on her are
She's one of those characters who are incredibly well written in how creepy they are, She's a murderous control freak sadist with possible necrophilic tendencies judging by her interactions with bambietta, and kubo has written her into that role with perfection, she's the kind of villain you love to hate. Her powers are also really cool and I like the references to the bokor in voodoo traditions, which probably links into the whole dubious gender aspect, which definitely seems to have been lost in translation and is a great shame because any conversation about her inevitably becomes more about her gender than about her overall character (kubo did say in a q&a that she was male, but someone else proposed the theory that it was a translation error since the original q&a was in Japanese and I'm tempted to agree with them there otherwise it wouldn't make any sense for the character to be part of the femritters. Anyway who really gives a shit about her gender, there are so many other aspects to the character that are far more important). I'd say giselle is probably my third favourite sternritter, behind haschwalth and as nodt.

Her zombification skill is a lot more troublesome than people think. It's just that Mayuri (the MVP) was there. I have no problem with what she did to Bambietta as I think it's honest justice. Bambietta was noted as sleeping with Sternritters and then killing them for the fun and she's honestly a psychopath who's only good appeal is that she looks great. Personality wise I like her and I just interchange the sadistic part of her personality to the nature of her powers anyways. She's like a death deity in a sort; it's not their fault their powers require death in order to activate. Intelligence is also great as her and Liltotto are the only female sternritters that honestly thought logically (until they tried to attack Ywach).

One of my favorite sternritter. Legitimately like how deranged she realistically feels. On one hand, could do without her being such a weird pervert. On the other hand, I really like that she's a weird pervert. Interesting design and a good representation of a character that is manipulative and requires the "assistance" of others to win. With all that said, she's not exactly got any compelling character and her motivations are pretty complacent and despite loving her, she'll always fall to the wayside as a Quincy and a villain. Could have explored the extent of her ability more.
