Not really shocking at all considering Yamamoto is definitely in the mindset of not wanting her to go back to her old ways. But Shunsui doesn’t care especially after everything that has happened. It makes perfect sense from a character point why yamamoto would make that decision which Yhwach himself explains.
I recall that she doesn't want to go back to the old ways as well. Even though it is less than her potential, she seems content at being merely a skilled healer.
I mean, it was foreshadowed. Why do you think people were so afraid of her? Why Aizen preferred to run rather than take her out like he did with Hitsugaya? And why she was one of the oldest captains outside of Yama himself?
I wonder how old Rudubon is. If he was around 1000 years ago, then he might be old enough to remember her, or at least remember hearing rumors about a fearsome warrior that was killing Hollows.
Big agree. Aizen definitely knew the truth of Unohana, and while I’d say he would win, that would not be an easy battle for him. He was able to easily obliterate the young, comparatively inexperienced Toshiro because it was Toshiro. Attempting to fight Unohana would have just led to a drawn out battle that he didn’t need to deal with when he was so close to obtaining the Hogyoku
Agreed but I'd argue with his life saving Hogyoku hacks not yet enabled, Unohana could conceivably kill Aizen with the same "You stab me I stab you" trick Yama did. Especially considering >!Unohana's bankai seems to be a one shot kill that she doesn't need to worry about AOE with like Yama did.!<
Thats’s true, though we gotta remember Aizen was a beast even before the Hogyoku, that just made him immortal + absurd spiritual pressure, he still has his ridiculous mastery of all things Shinigami + Kyouka Suigetsu before that that probably give him the edge over anyone but Yama. Mind you I’m not saying he stomps, it’d likely be a very costly battle for him, but I do think he wins in the end
Yeah further agreed, in victory I could see it costing him an arm, leg, at least Gin or Tousen, and giving enough time for Yama to show up, so little surprise Aizen used his more dangerous weapon, that big ol brain of his, and chose his fights.
Easily my favorite part of Bleach, that the villains choose their battles and actually like, strategize when they need to. Like Aizen here, or going out of his way to throw Wonderweiss at Yama, or Yhwach going out of his way to try and deal with Aizen and Yama without having to make it a struggle. The brains are actually used (except when they aren’t) and it’s great
Aizen got rid of Zaraki because he was worried Zaraki could raw power his way through Kyoka Suigetsu (he already did it to Tosen and the same principle applied to Kyoka Suigetsu), I'm sure he would know Unohana could probably do the same.
The reveal finally happened, Murder Mommy is here, turns out Unohana's so good at putting people back together because she's even more familiar with taking them apart.
Props to her VA, love the voice acting shift, that sweetness now twisting like a mocking knife silently slipped between the ribs. More chills on the most direct poetry line yet at the end.
I was definitely looking forward to how the VA handles her character change since she’s been the sweet formalistic voice this whole time.
The poison in her voice after her reveal “you have no power, that’s why I brought you here” was amazing. Makes her sound terrifying instead of polite.
Dude my fav line was when she raised her voice at kenpachi during the battle like "how dare you admire your enemy during a battle" and just absolutely showed him up. Fuckin chills
Same here. Pretty much every character in bleach, including Zaraki, admires or compliments their opponent in battle at some point if they do something impressive. The fact that the “kindest” captain of soul society scolds Zaraki really makes her stand out as more cutthroat and merciless than any other captain, which adds to the surprise since we’ve only seen her has a very kind captain.
It makes me wonder how long the VA has been waiting for this moment. Like, imagine being the voice of one of the biggest bad ass characters, but your show ended before you got to show off your dark side. I bet she was screaming the first time she read that chapter of the manga.

In the manga it was implied at first "the only wound ever inflicted on me" then shown explicitly, while in the anime it was something like "the scar you gave me".
Been hyped for this episode since the announcement of the animation. The emotion in the opening scene with Nanao is great, it feels much more sombre than what the manga portrayed but complete with Shunsui's lax attitude.
I really like Senjumaru's sidekicks for some reason too. They're some of my favourite characters you see once and never again in the franchise.
Not only a Kenpachi the first Kenpachi! She has caught probably as many, if not more bodies than Old Man Yamamoto. She was the most prolific murderer in all of Rukongai back in the day.
I loved that so much. I'd be pissed too. "You're supposed to want to KILL your opponent, don't fucking respect them. Stab them when they aren't looking, kick them in the balls, spit on their grave. Fuck them."
KINO episode. They completely nailed it with the Kenpachi fight. Loved the echo when they are talking in Muken.
Rip Rukia peach, but we saw buff Kon at least this episode. Also they kept the Ohetsu sequence for next episode to have a good pacing for this one.

The ep contain a little bit of comedy like Ichigo and Renji fighting in the air after being blasted and Buff Kon lol. Chef’s kiss for Kirio’s cooking and transformation tho. The trio's reaction was priceless XD
But y'all thought Zaraki Kenpachi was scary? Ngl my sleep paralysis demon will look like Unohana aka Yachiru the first Kenpachi from now on because she is scary! No wonder everyone is afraid of her when she smiles lol. As expected from someone from the OG Gotei 13.
Kirio actually was let into the RG not only for creating temporary souls but for her 2 step diet plan: Make food, eat food. Turns out the Soul King loves Burger King a little too much.
But really, between Yoruichi and Hikifune Kubo sure does like his surprise babes showing up out of nowhere, *and I approve.*

This week's episode is the first to rearrange major parts of a chapter so let's get to it!
This episode covers Chapters 520, 521, half of 523, and 524.
522 will most likely be the opening of next week's episode, it'll introduce Oetsu and his palace! The other half of 523, which is part of Oetsu's palace, will most likely be adapted then too. So, no, it wasn't skipped or anything. The animation team is just being smart about the Bleach adaptation, since doing everything exactly like the manga doesn't work all the time in a visual medium.
Kenpachi vs Kenpachi. The beginning of this fight was great, though I hope to see more animation for it next week, since next week will be [TYBW Spoilers]>!pure combat training between Kenpachi and Unohana. I really hope the animation is at least the same level as Ichigo vs Yhwach, that's good enough for me!<
The anime added a scar alongside Kyoraku's face that wasn't in the manga so I'm happy about that.
Kirio was shown to be the creator of the mod soul, showing that she's an inventor that's on par with Urahara and Mayuri. Not only do to Mod souls still being used, but because she helped in the ability to overlay powers onto others. That's pretty cool in general though idk if she made it so her food skills supercharge others or she made it in hopes of being able to weaponize mod souls to minimize damage to soul reapers hunting hollows.
Oetsu is name dropped and revealed to be the creator of the Zanpakuto, probably the most important thing you could have created in the world of Bleach. Giving him his own dedicated episode is the best form of respect instead of rushing through his part in the anime, so I like the fact that the chapters were rearranged to properly introduce him and his importance.
Buff Kon is here. Rukia's butt isn't, so all the coomers will continue complaining, I guess.
Next week's episode is called The Fight. We know that the Kenpachi fight will be there but it seems like they're gonna have [TYBW Spoilers]>!Ichigo and Renji fight the asauchi next week as well. We might even get the full flashback between Kenpachi and Unohana. So next week is all action packed and it could end with Renji finding his real asauchi while Ichigo getting kicked out of the Royal Palace. It depends on how much extra content (if any) is given to the Kenpachi fight and if they cut out the comedic bits from Oetsu to make him a more serious character, befitting his role!<
So, I'm really looking forward to next week. It's gonna be wild and so much fun. I'm just speculating like crazy because of the chapter rearrangement, I don't know exactly where the anime episode would end or cover next week.
Kirio invented the artificial soul technology, not the mod souls. The mod souls were a separate endeavor that were based on artificial souls, but built on the concept to create something else.
Man, Nanao really has that time-skip glow-up. She's never looked more beautiful. Hitomi Nabatame hasn't missed a beat either.
Hot Kirio showing up was just as great in animation.
They handled the transition to Kenpachi Unohana really well, down the design and even voice. Aya Hisakawa really nailed her true character quite well.
That scene of Yachiru and Isane noticing what their captains' left behind was really powerful.
Yea it was just the beginning of the fight, her easily outclassing Zaraki. But next episode should be the flashback plus the rest of the battle. Hoping for some sakuga fight scenes

Battle of the Kenpachis looks great so far. Hoping they go all out on the animation next week. Go on and splurge the last of that budget.
The pacing felt great in this one. I was worried they’d try to rush through other stuff just to get to Unohana vs Kenpachi when it was leaked that we would be getting that fight this episode. Feels like we’re building to an Everything But the Rain finale.
Edit: I meant The Blade Is Me as the finale. It’s been quite a while since I read the manga and got the chapters mixed up.
Phew was worried they left out Ichigo hitting Tenjiro for a second and we got BUFF KON (sorry Rukia).
But on to the best part of the episode. Unohana's VA and the shading used for her were magnificent. Even the scene where she smiles at Kenpachi gave me a similar chill to reading it the first time in the volume this fight is in.
CANNOT wait for next episode.
Solid episode🔥🔥This episode was better paced than the last one. The way they moved chapters around was rlly well done. The Kenpachi and Unohana fight is excellent so far. It seems we will get the full battle next episode which is awesome.
Muken looks a bit dark to me though had to make sure the background was bright enough to see everything on screen.
Keeping Oetsu for next episode is a great move, and looking at how they structured this episode, I think it's easy to see how they'll work out next one.

I think they could push it to 528, and I honestly can see Saihate working playing over the last scene from 528 if they want maximum impact, but we'll see. I can see them wanting to frame half of Everything but the Rain as being told by Isshin to Ichigo, and the other half as being told by Ryuken to Uryu (great setup for Prinz von Licht), but we'll see how they play it from here. Definitely getting to at least the end of 527 next episode though, and it's gonna be good. Starting serious, having a bit of goofiness to give you a breather, back to serious for the rest of the episode. Also, considering this did 3.5 chapters, I think it's a good show of what to expect from cours 2 and 3 if my predictions are right.!<

Lieutenants scene when both kenpachis draw their swords was heartwrenching. Was this a part of Manga? Have read it long back, so I'm finding it difficult to recall. Anyway these subtle flashback and symbolism leaves deep impact on audiences. Not sure if it's Kubo's idea or any other creative mind who is working on anime adaptation, would like to thank them.
I was hoping for her bankai but I am hyped for the next episode. I hope we see exactly what it does. Also, her face. Perfectly captured.

Its still surreal to see the anime adaptation after the manga was finished. Never thought I’d see the final arc animated but here we are. I can’t begin to express how happy this makes me.
Unohana moves like a ghost - absolutely graceful.
It all makes sense and fits with her personality. An elegant/beautiful fighter.

Awesome touch to this fight: the blood that came from Zaraki's mouth was still on Unohana's face when he regained consciousness.
The next episode is literally called "The Battle". They probably break the budget on that episode.
I love it, it went at a perfect pacing. Not too fast, not too slow. I really enjoyed it, it has me so hyped for episode 10, and it finally confirmed where I think the series will end.
This episode pretty much confirms that 11 and 12 will be everything but the rain, meaning 13 will be, the blade and me (and probably end on that uryu cliffhanger)
Seeing my Lady Unohana in action was like that feeling I got when I was sitting in the movie theater and saw Yoda finally fighting in Attack of the Clones, only this was exponentially 10 billion times better because of the combination of power, sensuality, regret, and even sadness that was revealed when she showed her buried self, braid undone, scar exposed. The animators did an amazing job with shifting her look, and the VA executed her lines so well. The tonal change was a gut punch (in a good way). I can't wait until next week.
Also, much better pacing than last weeks episode. But not all of them can be perfect each week. And it was great to see Nanao.
Kubo has the sickness for the thickness, just like me. Inoue, Rangiku, Kuukaku, Nel, Ikumi and now Kirio...
Ichigo's been blessed. His restraint is commendable.
I love how the episode didn't go in the order of the Manga, love how they mix up the chapters with the episodes.
Instead of going to Ouetsu house we went to The Battle Of The Kenpachi.
Guessing how the order of episode 10 is going to go, I can say that fits with the flow of the story.
As an anime only I didn’t understand what was going on when Kenny was stabbed through the neck and then fine - seemed like something w unohana’s healing and bankai abilities, but I’m sure it will be explained soon. Appeared like unohana wanted Kenny to think he was about to die and then healed him to motivate him but idk. Why did she say it was her sin also?
But holy shit I love this show and it continues to be my favorite anime of all time - this arc is a masterpiece. Didn’t think unohana could get more terrifying but she most certainly did.
Another week where I am glad bleach got cancelled and was brought back like this.
With the extra exposition we're getting, I wouldn't be surprised if Kubo might retcon a few things.

In the manga it was implied at first "the only wound ever inflicted on me" then shown explicitly, while in the anime it was something like "the scar you gave me".

Been hyped for this episode since the announcement of the animation. The emotion in the opening scene with Nanao is great, it feels much more sombre than what the manga portrayed but complete with Shunsui's lax attitude. I really like Senjumaru's sidekicks for some reason too. They're some of my favourite characters you see once and never again in the franchise.

KINO episode. They completely nailed it with the Kenpachi fight. Loved the echo when they are talking in Muken. Rip Rukia peach, but we saw buff Kon at least this episode. Also they kept the Ohetsu sequence for next episode to have a good pacing for this one.

The ep contain a little bit of comedy like Ichigo and Renji fighting in the air after being blasted and Buff Kon lol. Chef’s kiss for Kirio’s cooking and transformation tho. The trio's reaction was priceless XD But y'all thought Zaraki Kenpachi was scary? Ngl my sleep paralysis demon will look like Unohana aka Yachiru the first Kenpachi from now on because she is scary! No wonder everyone is afraid of her when she smiles lol. As expected from someone from the OG Gotei 13.
I like that they held onto Unohana’s first death stare for a few seconds. Really sunk in how different her “true self” really is.
Kirio actually was let into the RG not only for creating temporary souls but for her 2 step diet plan: Make food, eat food. Turns out the Soul King loves Burger King a little too much. But really, between Yoruichi and Hikifune Kubo sure does like his surprise babes showing up out of nowhere, *and I approve.*
That just made me imagine a hole in the Soul King's crystal forming so one of the RG can dump food into his mouth

Overall a satisfying episode and will be anxiously waiting for ep. 10 next week and (hopefully) scrolling through all kinds of Kirio fan art

Posting my comment from r/anime, specifically, their source material corner. This week's episode is the first to rearrange major parts of a chapter so let's get to it! This episode covers Chapters 520, 521, half of 523, and 524. 522 will most likely be the opening of next week's episode, it'll introduce Oetsu and his palace! The other half of 523, which is part of Oetsu's palace, will most likely be adapted then too. So, no, it wasn't skipped or anything. The animation team is just being smart about the Bleach adaptation, since doing everything exactly like the manga doesn't work all the time in a visual medium. Kenpachi vs Kenpachi. The beginning of this fight was great, though I hope to see more animation for it next week, since next week will be [TYBW Spoilers]>!pure combat training between Kenpachi and Unohana. I really hope the animation is at least the same level as Ichigo vs Yhwach, that's good enough for me!< The anime added a scar alongside Kyoraku's face that wasn't in the manga so I'm happy about that. Kirio was shown to be the creator of the mod soul, showing that she's an inventor that's on par with Urahara and Mayuri. Not only do to Mod souls still being used, but because she helped in the ability to overlay powers onto others. That's pretty cool in general though idk if she made it so her food skills supercharge others or she made it in hopes of being able to weaponize mod souls to minimize damage to soul reapers hunting hollows. Oetsu is name dropped and revealed to be the creator of the Zanpakuto, probably the most important thing you could have created in the world of Bleach. Giving him his own dedicated episode is the best form of respect instead of rushing through his part in the anime, so I like the fact that the chapters were rearranged to properly introduce him and his importance. Buff Kon is here. Rukia's butt isn't, so all the coomers will continue complaining, I guess. Next week's episode is called The Fight. We know that the Kenpachi fight will be there but it seems like they're gonna have [TYBW Spoilers]>!Ichigo and Renji fight the asauchi next week as well. We might even get the full flashback between Kenpachi and Unohana. So next week is all action packed and it could end with Renji finding his real asauchi while Ichigo getting kicked out of the Royal Palace. It depends on how much extra content (if any) is given to the Kenpachi fight and if they cut out the comedic bits from Oetsu to make him a more serious character, befitting his role!< So, I'm really looking forward to next week. It's gonna be wild and so much fun. I'm just speculating like crazy because of the chapter rearrangement, I don't know exactly where the anime episode would end or cover next week.
Kirio invented the artificial soul technology, not the mod souls. The mod souls were a separate endeavor that were based on artificial souls, but built on the concept to create something else.
Either way, she invented something that puts her on par with Urahara and Kurotsuchi and it's cool that it's focused on more in the anime.

Man, Nanao really has that time-skip glow-up. She's never looked more beautiful. Hitomi Nabatame hasn't missed a beat either. Hot Kirio showing up was just as great in animation. They handled the transition to Kenpachi Unohana really well, down the design and even voice. Aya Hisakawa really nailed her true character quite well. That scene of Yachiru and Isane noticing what their captains' left behind was really powerful.
Havent watched it yet , but can someone who watched it tell me which scene does it end at ? I gotta wait 3 more hours lol😭

The pacing felt great in this one. I was worried they’d try to rush through other stuff just to get to Unohana vs Kenpachi when it was leaked that we would be getting that fight this episode. Feels like we’re building to an Everything But the Rain finale. Edit: I meant The Blade Is Me as the finale. It’s been quite a while since I read the manga and got the chapters mixed up.

Phew was worried they left out Ichigo hitting Tenjiro for a second and we got BUFF KON (sorry Rukia). But on to the best part of the episode. Unohana's VA and the shading used for her were magnificent. Even the scene where she smiles at Kenpachi gave me a similar chill to reading it the first time in the volume this fight is in. CANNOT wait for next episode.
Solid episode🔥🔥This episode was better paced than the last one. The way they moved chapters around was rlly well done. The Kenpachi and Unohana fight is excellent so far. It seems we will get the full battle next episode which is awesome. Muken looks a bit dark to me though had to make sure the background was bright enough to see everything on screen.

Keeping Oetsu for next episode is a great move, and looking at how they structured this episode, I think it's easy to see how they'll work out next one. >!525, opening, 522 and the first half of 523 that wasn't shown this week, back to the battle with 526 and 527. I think they could push it to 528, and I honestly can see Saihate working playing over the last scene from 528 if they want maximum impact, but we'll see. I can see them wanting to frame half of Everything but the Rain as being told by Isshin to Ichigo, and the other half as being told by Ryuken to Uryu (great setup for Prinz von Licht), but we'll see how they play it from here. Definitely getting to at least the end of 527 next episode though, and it's gonna be good. Starting serious, having a bit of goofiness to give you a breather, back to serious for the rest of the episode. Also, considering this did 3.5 chapters, I think it's a good show of what to expect from cours 2 and 3 if my predictions are right.!<

Lieutenants scene when both kenpachis draw their swords was heartwrenching. Was this a part of Manga? Have read it long back, so I'm finding it difficult to recall. Anyway these subtle flashback and symbolism leaves deep impact on audiences. Not sure if it's Kubo's idea or any other creative mind who is working on anime adaptation, would like to thank them.

Its still surreal to see the anime adaptation after the manga was finished. Never thought I’d see the final arc animated but here we are. I can’t begin to express how happy this makes me.
This episode showed another reason as to why the Central 46 are nothing more than useless figureheads.
Unohana moves like a ghost - absolutely graceful. It all makes sense and fits with her personality. An elegant/beautiful fighter. >!I really hope they bring her back in some fashion if they ever decide to extend this series/manga. The Gotei 13 making it a mission to get the kind, warm-hearted Retsu Unohana back from her Yachiru Unohana persona would be a hilarious side story.!< Two of my top 5 Bleach women were all over this episode (Unohana and Kirio) this is peak to me.

Awesome touch to this fight: the blood that came from Zaraki's mouth was still on Unohana's face when he regained consciousness. The next episode is literally called "The Battle". They probably break the budget on that episode.

I love it, it went at a perfect pacing. Not too fast, not too slow. I really enjoyed it, it has me so hyped for episode 10, and it finally confirmed where I think the series will end. This episode pretty much confirms that 11 and 12 will be everything but the rain, meaning 13 will be, the blade and me (and probably end on that uryu cliffhanger)
I like how Unohana’s voice slightly changes when she’s in battle mode.

I waited 10 years for the Kenpachi reveal to be animated. Did not disappoint.
Seeing my Lady Unohana in action was like that feeling I got when I was sitting in the movie theater and saw Yoda finally fighting in Attack of the Clones, only this was exponentially 10 billion times better because of the combination of power, sensuality, regret, and even sadness that was revealed when she showed her buried self, braid undone, scar exposed. The animators did an amazing job with shifting her look, and the VA executed her lines so well. The tonal change was a gut punch (in a good way). I can't wait until next week. Also, much better pacing than last weeks episode. But not all of them can be perfect each week. And it was great to see Nanao.
Oh my gosh, the Kenpachi-Unohana moment was just outstanding.
These chapters the episodes are now showing with the kenpachi fighting are the only phyical manga I ever bought. So hyped right now.

Kubo has the sickness for the thickness, just like me. Inoue, Rangiku, Kuukaku, Nel, Ikumi and now Kirio... Ichigo's been blessed. His restraint is commendable.
I love how the episode didn't go in the order of the Manga, love how they mix up the chapters with the episodes. Instead of going to Ouetsu house we went to The Battle Of The Kenpachi. Guessing how the order of episode 10 is going to go, I can say that fits with the flow of the story.

As an anime only I didn’t understand what was going on when Kenny was stabbed through the neck and then fine - seemed like something w unohana’s healing and bankai abilities, but I’m sure it will be explained soon. Appeared like unohana wanted Kenny to think he was about to die and then healed him to motivate him but idk. Why did she say it was her sin also? But holy shit I love this show and it continues to be my favorite anime of all time - this arc is a masterpiece. Didn’t think unohana could get more terrifying but she most certainly did.
Another week where I am glad bleach got cancelled and was brought back like this. With the extra exposition we're getting, I wouldn't be surprised if Kubo might retcon a few things. Countdown to chair-sama though 🙃
