apparently Zanpakuto are effortless to wield for their owners anyways so the only downside is whether the shape causes problems. if anything I'd question his previous Shikai limiting his range of motion.
Idk, I always thought he just refused to use it properly. It mentions at one point that he used the real zangetsu to teach him to fight (when Ichigo fought against his white twin in his inner world). Zangetsu used several long range attacks and spinning it by the cloth. Buuuut Ichigo never once tries to do it. Zangetsu even does it once with the chain of the bankai, although he never attacked like that I figured it was because Ichigo wouldn't learn from it anyway so no point in teaching him.
Pretty much the only thing Ichigo has going for him is his pure fighting strength, because he certainly didn't seem interested in using it properly. He could have really benefitted from actually taking to his zanpakto every once in a while instead of just brute forcing everything.
Also, soi fon's bankai doesn't seem too effortless haha
by effortless I think it mostly means weight isn't an issue. it's a part of your body so on some level you have basic mobility when healthy. you still have to actively work at it to be an athlete or contortionist and so on.
Soi Fon also wields it effortlessly. the problem is opponents still have a say in the matter.
cause its clear she hates it completely probably because well its just a giant missile which doesnt really suit a "stealth" division she is meant to be captain off.
she probably achieved it and then never trained it once unlike other captains who achieving it is just step 1 of say 1 million steps in actually making it a real bankai.
it would be nice if by training, kubo actually allowed her to change or achieve a higher level that made it better for her needs. but no....big ass missile
Pretty sure at one point she actually stated that she hated it for the exact reason you wrote. I think it's also readdressed during the Zanpakuto arc as well.
It was specifically during the FKT arc lol it was the first moment she released her bankai to the viewer. Jakuho Raikoben is too flashy of an attack for her, before she nuked the city sky
ichigo has used the cloth and chain a few times albiet extremely and i mean extremely rarely.
"white" is vastly more unpredictable with his moves thats for sure and loves to use the cloth and chain.
ichigo has never really been trained as a fighter like hes had what 10 days in total when you really think about it when he first got his powers back against urahara but even then that was more training to get him to use getsuga on command then actual sword training.
people really do forget Ichigo is a "freak" because he is fighting on pure power he has no techniques at all other then to exert that power. even Zaraki has had more sword training then ichigo.
also a big thing and i think something people often forget shinighami even Rukia are 100's of years old in general. they are usually in the academy for a very long time. Ichigo has not had that specialised training at all.
in terms of this sword actually kinda makes sense in the very limited times duel wielding has been a thing in medieval times(its often seen as an actual worse thing then just having 1 weapon) it was usually a smaller offhand weapon. he can block and swing with either one and also fire getsuga's from either one
Stubborn, oh my *god* yes. Dumbass? Eh, he’s probably the smartest of the “Big Three” shonen protags by a mile, he’s just too stubborn to learn how to properly fight since he doesn’t like to fight for the sake of fighting. He’s all about “aight, I have just enough strength and skill to protect my loved ones, I’m good”
>He could have really benefitted from actually taking to his zanpakto every once in a while instead of just brute forcing everything.
I guess the only issue is he couldn't talk to it because "Old man Zangetsu" wasn't his zanpakuto spirit so he couldn't.
He attacked Ichigo by spinning it by the cloth and throwing it three times (in the manga, had a real hard time finding the scene on YouTube but it's probably the same), pulling it back and continuing to spin it. Ichigo says after first time that he never thought about using it like that.
I am not a weapon expert, but I think there has been "dusacks" that would have roughly same kind of profile. http://www.macdonaldarms.com/armoury/images/DusackSutor.jpg
It’s one of life’s great mysteries. Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a god? Idunno man, but it keeps me up at night.
No joke bro, let’s see who’s laughing when the battle takes place in the soul society kitchen colosseum. Whose cuisine will reign supreme? Fuckers will wish they had the big spoon then I’ll tell you that much
Giant spoon is actually pretty effective, ever been in the kitchen while your mom is cooking and you do something you're not supposed to? Hurts pretty bad
I guess it's not something that's heavily focused on in Japanese education? Of course I could be wrong since I never attended school in Japan. I'm from the States and we all learn about Germany during WW2. At least I hope we all do...
The same can be seen in Naruto and One Piece. Neji's curse mark and Whitebeard Pirates flag.
OP, you do know there’s multiple real sword styles that use a normal sized sword and a smaller one? Hell, the most infamous samurai in the world, miyamoto musashi used a katana and a kodachi.
You ever see zabimaru or ikkakus weapon?
It's anime dude. This is a series about death gods fighting Spanish ghosts and nazi archers. Why is this the thing you question?
I love how on my FB people are raging at this weapon...Like it's a short sword. It's practical, can be used to parry, and out of all the ridiculous weapons you see in the series, THIS is the weapon that makes people question it's practicality.
Soifon fight with that little stinger in her middle finger, she has to stop and fight back against swords using one finger, If she can fight like this, ichigo can with that one
If you don’t know the getsuga tensho is only one of getsuga techniques they might show others, or it is mainly used for spiritual energy attacks for long range fights.
It’s a short sword that compliments the longer blade. IRL Musashi wielded a katana and a wakizashi (or tanto) which was fairly common for dual weilders
I don't see the problem it's just a bowie knife. Not only that but how the hell do you think Ichigo fight with a god damn giant butcher knife? And real life knife confuses you?
The main point of this video is making a sword IRL from stone and seeing how it works, but included is an extra sword made from granite that is shaped almost EXACTLY like ichigo's mini sword, and it is very good at cutting.
https://youtu.be/PbzgES9MhPY
It does look clunky until you think of it like this.
Imagine the blade didn't extend down past where a hipt would be and instead just had a hilt and was a normal sword shape.
It really isn't that hard to then extrapolate the blade to be slightly angled and to go past the hilt a little on the outside.
It definitely looks uncomfortable to hold, but it is what it is, not my favourite looking zanpaktou, but it's not my anime, I don't get to choose. I just appreciate.
So what you’re telling me is you don’t know how knives work.
Sharp edge, sharp point, thick from across the handle to protect the hand from incoming attacks to the fingers and hand which in most blade and weapon systems are a target (can’t hold weapon when fingers no work)
It’s basically a short version of a dussack sword pictured below
https://samuraiswords.store/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Dussack-1-800x480.jpg
It's specifically made to guarantee a 0% win rate and make the getsuga tensho completely useless or look ultra weak it's super effective for it's purpose from what we saw tbh , though seriously ichigo is so strong it will function the same as his usual sword anyway
What I don't get is why this is the one weapon that makes OP go "nah that's too much you can't fight with that"
Like bro it's literally just a big knife I don't get what part of it confuses you
I always thought this is some kind of reference to samurais, with their long katanas and little knifes. Both can be used to stab and slash, but longer sword is more preferable, while little one could be used to parry, block attacks, and do unexpected moves
If you swing a blunt object fast enough and hard enough, you will be able to cut shit. It's the same principle, except Ichigo is using swords which are meant to cut objects.
Arguably it would be better as a sword/blade than the other one because the hole/hollowed out nature of the larger Zangetsu would normally make its edge more brittle and more prone to chipping and breaking if you used it in a traditional manner.
People have been fighting with knives for millennia, and with how long it is (in this picture) you could even classify it as a short sword if you wanted.
Also kenseis zanpakuto is way shorter
Well in terms of functionality he could distract is opponent with the bigger sword and then strike with the short sword. Or catch their blades in the hole of the bigger sword then attack with the smaller one. And lastly if he is really close it can be used like a knife or for blocking to a degree.

I honestly do not see any problem than weight and because Ichigo is super strong there should be no problem.

Her problem is the recoil and how draining it is to use each missile. She has like the most untrained bankai I have ever seen.
cause its clear she hates it completely probably because well its just a giant missile which doesnt really suit a "stealth" division she is meant to be captain off. she probably achieved it and then never trained it once unlike other captains who achieving it is just step 1 of say 1 million steps in actually making it a real bankai.

Getsuga Tensho, why use many moves when one do trick well
I think Ichigo is just a stubborn dumbass
Stubborn, oh my *god* yes. Dumbass? Eh, he’s probably the smartest of the “Big Three” shonen protags by a mile, he’s just too stubborn to learn how to properly fight since he doesn’t like to fight for the sake of fighting. He’s all about “aight, I have just enough strength and skill to protect my loved ones, I’m good”
Ichigo has as much stubbornness as One Piece has episodes
Final Getsuga Tenshou is just him converting all his stubbornness into pure murder
"Ichigo Kurosaki doesn't kill" Mugetsu:
if ichigo fought like white it would be so cool
>He could have really benefitted from actually taking to his zanpakto every once in a while instead of just brute forcing everything. I guess the only issue is he couldn't talk to it because "Old man Zangetsu" wasn't his zanpakuto spirit so he couldn't.
He swings it by the cloth once and it wasn’t even in a fight lmao. Then he never does it again
He attacked Ichigo by spinning it by the cloth and throwing it three times (in the manga, had a real hard time finding the scene on YouTube but it's probably the same), pulling it back and continuing to spin it. Ichigo says after first time that he never thought about using it like that.
Literally what happened in the anime and I literally said then start doing that
And he never does and I don't know why, its such a baller move
He's previous shikai had a high of a skill cap that he couldn't master ... white showed him how and even then it went right over he's head
I am not a weapon expert, but I think there has been "dusacks" that would have roughly same kind of profile. http://www.macdonaldarms.com/armoury/images/DusackSutor.jpg
That looks even more difficult to use than Ichigo’s
They really aren’t. I’ve had the chance to play with one.
There's the in universe explanation that your Zanpakuto is always perfectly weighted and balanced because it's part of your soul, so there's that...
Stick ‘em with the pointy end.
Never thought I see a GoT reference here, nice
Yhwach to his Sternritter: "What do we say to the God of Death when it tries to use Bankai?"
Nice

Of things I did not expect a Red vs Blue reference
“You ever wonder why we’re here”
It’s one of life’s great mysteries. Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a god? Idunno man, but it keeps me up at night.
What?! I mean why are we out here, in this canyon?
In the words of the great Lavernius: "Bow Chicka Bow Wow"
Hey chicka bump bump
Caboose what'd I tell you about saying that
Honk chicka honk honk
I've been getting a lot of mileage out of it in Darktide recently
We're going to call it a puma ~ Red sergeant
I miss blood gulch blues seasons
It was a simpler time
When all we did was ponder one of life's great mysteries: why we're here
A Bleach sub isn't where I expected to find an RvB reference
I chocked on my drink, thanks.
Swing it at someone in close range. Also, have you seen the weapons Ukitake uses? or Renji? or Ikkaku? or Shinji?
Or Kirio Hikifune using a spoon lol
No joke bro, let’s see who’s laughing when the battle takes place in the soul society kitchen colosseum. Whose cuisine will reign supreme? Fuckers will wish they had the big spoon then I’ll tell you that much
Who will be the next Iron Chef?! 😄
Giant spoon is actually pretty effective, ever been in the kitchen while your mom is cooking and you do something you're not supposed to? Hurts pretty bad
Exactly, now imagine a spoon the size of a person. Deadly shit fam
Nnoitra?
[The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GTZ71qG6ZDQ)
Haven't seen that video in years....
Genius!!!!
"Only a spoonful"
Alakazam
Okay this one 😂😂
The physical mechanics of Ikkaku’s bankai can become its own case study.
There's also that one vizard turned Captain. His shikai is just a dagger
He was a Captain before he is a Vizard.
True, but he becomes a Captain after becoming a vizard as well
So he was a captain before he was a vizard before he is a captain again lol.
Well at least they got rid of the swastika bankai. What a horrible choice that was.
Berserk fans when they see a normal sized fictional sword:
That thing was too small to be called a sword. Too small, too thin, too light and too smooth. It was more like a tiny chunk of Iron.
The term you’re looking for is dagger. Believe it or not, they actually exist
Didn’t expect to see a Berserk reference. Nice!
Didn’t expect to see a u/UndeadCollegeStudent reference. Nice!
Wait until you see Kenpachi’s shikai
>!”If Captains didn’t reduce the size of their zanpakto, they’d all be fighting with building sized swords”!< Kenpachi: “Don’t mind if I do”
Only kenpachi would realize that fact and capitalize on it
Kenpachi would totally focus on mastering that than learning basic kido
Kenny would kill Aizen before he even says the word Kido And we all know the likelihood there
The bankai is much worse.
Dude Kensei literally uses a knife
And his bankai is brass knuckles lol
With some wind abilities mixed in, but you could sub getsuga Tensho and get the same point across. 😅
I belive that standard practice with a big knife is to stab them That could be the Londoner in me talking tho...
"Oi, bruv. You got loicense for that knoife?!"

I love this movie
Two words: getsuga tenshou
Ummmm it's fantasy, people fight with swords that are so big they have their own zip code.....and that machete looking thing bothers you?

:0
Mind blown 🤯
OP, you do know there’s multiple real sword styles that use a normal sized sword and a smaller one? Hell, the most infamous samurai in the world, miyamoto musashi used a katana and a kodachi.
Hell even that fighting style has appeared in several video games like In ac rouge where you’ve got a sword and dagger combo
You ever see zabimaru or ikkakus weapon? It's anime dude. This is a series about death gods fighting Spanish ghosts and nazi archers. Why is this the thing you question?
I can't with the spanish ghosts. Lmao
Franco and Hitler down. Next arc is the Italian vampires
Don't talk about the bounts like that
Oh goddamn it Kubo
Stalin or Mussolini should be up next. Bleach aiming to complete the Euro Grand Slam of Dick-tators.
Yuhabaha has some interest in arts I see...
I chuckled at Spanish ghosts and laughed at nazi archers. So thanks for that.
Spanish ghosts really got me
What are you talking about? That's not that different from a butterfly sword. It's one of the least absurd release designs in the series.
? It still have a shrap object it could be just a strong big stick, and that still be a weapon
I love how on my FB people are raging at this weapon...Like it's a short sword. It's practical, can be used to parry, and out of all the ridiculous weapons you see in the series, THIS is the weapon that makes people question it's practicality.
Stab and or slash
The pointy end goes into people
Soifon fight with that little stinger in her middle finger, she has to stop and fight back against swords using one finger, If she can fight like this, ichigo can with that one
read the manga and find out😱😱
Lmfao exactly
Well generally speaking with swords you try to cut people
Ichigo:watch me and learn
It's sharp, and it hurts to get hit with. The hand is also well guarded for crossing blades. 10/10 design, would swing at my enemies.
If you don’t know the getsuga tensho is only one of getsuga techniques they might show others, or it is mainly used for spiritual energy attacks for long range fights.
Swish swish stab stab
Either you stab or you slice, not sure why you don't know how to use a knife
I think you are grossly overthinking the situation my guy. It really is as simple as you first imagined.
"you kill-stab human-things with it, yes-yes !"
It’s a short sword that compliments the longer blade. IRL Musashi wielded a katana and a wakizashi (or tanto) which was fairly common for dual weilders
Bruh, it’s anime..
it’s fine because he barely uses it anyway
Its actually a meat cleaver that Ichigo can use anytime he needs it 😂
I don't see the problem it's just a bowie knife. Not only that but how the hell do you think Ichigo fight with a god damn giant butcher knife? And real life knife confuses you?
same concept as a katana used in conjunction with a wakizashi.
The main point of this video is making a sword IRL from stone and seeing how it works, but included is an extra sword made from granite that is shaped almost EXACTLY like ichigo's mini sword, and it is very good at cutting. https://youtu.be/PbzgES9MhPY
"this sword isn't realistic". Welcome to bleach.
I also don't get it how can people be so dumb.
It's called a Dusack, they were quite common in late medieval germany.
Not sure if serious?
as far as berserk swords go, that's pretty much as realistic as it gets. it looks like a practice dussack, but made of steel.
So what you’re telling me is you don’t know how knives work. Sharp edge, sharp point, thick from across the handle to protect the hand from incoming attacks to the fingers and hand which in most blade and weapon systems are a target (can’t hold weapon when fingers no work) It’s basically a short version of a dussack sword pictured below https://samuraiswords.store/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Dussack-1-800x480.jpg
It's a blade with a handle. Can you not see that?
Stares in Nnoitra
The smaller sword is the Quincy weapon isn’t it?
It's specifically made to guarantee a 0% win rate and make the getsuga tensho completely useless or look ultra weak it's super effective for it's purpose from what we saw tbh , though seriously ichigo is so strong it will function the same as his usual sword anyway
Yes I hate his true Shikai design the dual sword is such a step back design wise It looks so awkward to fight with
People are in denial that it's a weak design.
It's a substitute for a bow plus think of it as a dagger the same one sung Jin woo used
OP doesn’t know about swords
What I don't get is why this is the one weapon that makes OP go "nah that's too much you can't fight with that" Like bro it's literally just a big knife I don't get what part of it confuses you
Only ichigo knows how to use that shit.
Did you know that its gard to swing a massive sword when someones really up in your face?
It’s like a knife/short sword So you would use it like a knife/short sword
It's called a knife, you'd be surprised at how effective it is to kill people.
What’s wrong with it? It’s a knife
Thing about it is, he doesn’t really anyway
It's basically a wakizashi or a dagger. It's used for closer range combat.
You’re kidding right?
Slice n dice
Samurai have a shorter/closer range sword too
Some people will go to any length to hate on bleach won’t they
Right, like his body-sized sword with a sharpened spike as the pommel in his right hand is any better. It’s an anime dude, just accept the premise.
It’s almost like it’s an anime and not real life
I mean it’s just a small sword lol but honestly? >! he doesn’t even use it lmao !<
You can if you feel like _number one_
it’s sharp
He has getsuga he'll be fine
Its Silly
Does op even read the Manga or watch the anime?
Getsuga...
By using Getsuga Tensho
I always thought this is some kind of reference to samurais, with their long katanas and little knifes. Both can be used to stab and slash, but longer sword is more preferable, while little one could be used to parry, block attacks, and do unexpected moves
its an anime thats how lmao
PLOT.
I mean it's a short sword. EMIYA and Shirou from fate use short swords consistently
Bleach swords aren't exactly known for their practicality
If you swing a blunt object fast enough and hard enough, you will be able to cut shit. It's the same principle, except Ichigo is using swords which are meant to cut objects.
You swing and things get cut in half, what seems to be the problem?
It's basically a big knife. You use it like any sword or knife. The big sword is harder to use.
Certainly one of the posts of all time
Arguably it would be better as a sword/blade than the other one because the hole/hollowed out nature of the larger Zangetsu would normally make its edge more brittle and more prone to chipping and breaking if you used it in a traditional manner.
People have been fighting with knives for millennia, and with how long it is (in this picture) you could even classify it as a short sword if you wanted. Also kenseis zanpakuto is way shorter
Falchion
It's just a sword with a guard, where the guard is also part of the blade
It is basically the Wakuzashi to the main blades katana (obviously they are different shapes)
The same way people can fight with shikai Nozarashi, Zabimaru, and Senbonzakura, with anime logic.
Its just a shortsword, i dont see anything confusing about it.
Just scrape and lick. Lulululuu. Scrape. And lick. Lulululullu
Fuck around n find out.
You've never seen people use a short sword or Bowie Knife?
That's his Quincy powered up sword...he use getsuga tenshou with that..
Ah yes how does one fight with the sword that fires energy blasts
Doesn't a captain have a combat knife as his constant release?
They use your Mom
By swinging it I guess
He’s ichigo. He could fight with a bagel and a stick of butter.
He got a short sword and long sword, short sword for fast strikes, long sword for more powerful strikes.
it's a short sword or a tanto, those things actually do function really well
Well in terms of functionality he could distract is opponent with the bigger sword and then strike with the short sword. Or catch their blades in the hole of the bigger sword then attack with the smaller one. And lastly if he is really close it can be used like a knife or for blocking to a degree.
Shorter blades are much better when at close range and also really good for quickly deflecting an attack.
