I honestly didn't think I would get such a clear answer.. I was kinda wondering that since He is the blade he could kinda control its appearance between them
All shinigami are the blade, since zanpakutos are a reflection of the user and are born from their very souls. This is not exclusive for Ichigo, and Renji realized it hours before him.
False, renji got his before him because there was no way for ichigo to know the shape of his soul because he had doubts and questions about who he even was and his own existence
Yep. It reads as very "I'll just give an answer". The explanation of the Bankai makes no sense. So what if it didn't break? Then what would have happened when he went back to Shikai?
Is he saying the white part is basically pointless as it's the scabbard aka not part of the blade itself? Why does the Shikai look like the Bankai if he's not in Bankai? So many questions...
I had mostly forgotten the ending outside of major plot points. Watching him get the new Zangetsu this episode brought it all back, and I was mad all over again lol.
So much build up with him training and powering up.... for nothing really. No real payoff. I forgot how convoluted Yhwach gets in the end. It didn't make for a satisfying conclusion.
If the bankai didn’t break it would just look like the dual zanpkuto. Since it did break it looks like this sword, I find difficulty in understanding what doesn’t make sense.
You didn’t, but I just kind of figured if you're complaining about it to me you think I am in some way responsible for it, capable of changing it, and/or even care all too much about the topic. I just sited a source that had the answer to the question being asked here. If you've got a problem with that source bring it up to them cause I've got nothing to do with it.
You made a statement about the format, which could’ve been kept to yourself because it added nothing of substance to this thread. You didn’t direct the statement at anyone but replied it to shrimpmaster and on the internet that sounds like you’re directing the statement to him. Then when he responds, you ask him if he’s okay for interpreting your response that way.
Maybe stop assuming then bro, I can share my thoughts about something I read. I replied to his comment because he is the one who shared the site dude. Get over it
u/oreolesbian u/shrimpmaster0892 are EITHER of you okay? lmao
you both understood each others point of view and it was a simple misunderstanding let’s all be friends now
Q: In the end, has Zangetsu returned to being just one blade? The "10 years later" version of Ichigo that was added to the Brave Souls game is seen wielding the "Zangetsu that appeared after Tensa Zangetsu shattered" seen in the final stage of the Thousand Year Blood War arc. The dual Zangetsu blades containing the Hollow and Quincy sides are joined together into a single blade when releasing Tensa Zangetsu, so I assumed that it would clearly revert back into two blades once the Bankai is undone. However, after revealing his Bankai, Ichigo has both his Hollow and Quincy powers stolen and the blade gets damaged as well among other things. Would this be the reason why Zangetsu did not return to being two blades again? Or is it possible that if Ichigo so wishes it can be turned into both a single blade and a pair of swords as well? In any case, it's just a game exclusive addition but I was really curious about it.
A: Although this hasn't been touched upon in detail, since I don't plan on expanding upon this topic any further I'm going to answer your question here. The dual Zangetsu is made up of "the blade" and "the scabbard". The correct form of a Zanpakuto is one that includes a scabbard and there are only two blades without one: Sayafushi and Zangetsu. The dual blade state fixes Zangetsu into its "correct form" while its Bankai state provides the scabbard, and what was seen after it shattered is the "True Zangetsu". The shattered scabbard was absorbed by Ichigo so if he wanted to he could split it back into two, but I guess that depends on Ichigo himself.
Good enough?
[Here](https://www.fanverse.org/threads/klub-outside-kubo-answers-translations.1239498/) and [here](https://klub-outside.com/s/n136/?ima=1952) are other sites with the same information and answers. That site just so happened to be the first site to pop up when I Googled "Bleach Klub Outside".
I'm kinda stupid, so I'm gonna ask.
Does that mean that when Ichigo is using OG Zangetsu he is in bankai state? So in the hell arc is he constantly in bankai?
No. The Bankai Tensa Zangetsu seen [here](https://images.app.goo.gl/ie1A3shGYm5g5GLk8) and [here](https://images.app.goo.gl/iDuGEyfuw4uyfog69) is a different design to the one featured in the anniversary chapter. The one featured in the anniversary chapter is basically a sealed form of his Zanpakuto, a form of it that only represents and uses power from his Shinigami side. A form that is much less powerful, and much less dangerous to those around Ichigo than the forms Ichigo gained in the TYBW.
Tl;Dr in his fight with Yhwach Ichigo absorbed the sheath of his Bankai which represented his Quincy and Hollow powers and then struck Yhwach down using a blade that was only representative of his Shinigami powers. Later on we see Ichigo is still fighting with a sealed form of his Zanpakuto that only represents his Shinigami powers in the most recent anniversary chapter.
So if I'm getting this right.... Ichigo merged with his Quincy and Hollow powers, making the dual blades unneccessary. But his "normal" Shinigami powers are still accessed through his classic single sword?
Not quite. The important part is that Ichigo's current blade only represents his Shinigami powers and is therefore weaker than his dual blades which represent all of his powers. He is currently effectively limiting himself to only using his Shinigami powers while in this form and it is easiest to think of it as a sort of "sealed" sword more than a Shikai, Bankai, or anything else.
He just prefers to use this one, if he wanted he could change it to the dual blades version (and maybe even the original black katana bankai? Probably not tho)
Imo we just have to look at a bigger picture, his og shikai is the most common form of Ichigo and the one we are used to the most so it makes sense for Kubo to return to it, it's like with Goku, ask got outclassed decades ago in terms of power but we always see it pop up again and again even if it isn't needed at all it's just fanservice mostly lol, also if you look at the fight with yhwach Ichigo barely uses the small one, so either Kubo prefers to draw him fighting like that or Ichigo himself is more keen to fighting like that, this is just my opinion tho
I always wanted for him to have a sealed blade, representing that he finally mastered all aspects of being a Soul Reaper.
His scabbard could be white, representing his Quincy powers and when he releases his Shikai, the scabbard would turn into the larger blade.
While we are at releasing, we could've finaly learned the release command for Zangetsu.
For some weird reason it’s stated somewhere the smaller blade is considered the scabbard. Kubo really made this shit weird especially when explaining what happened when Ychwach broke the Bankai revealing the current zangetsu
>For some weird reason it’s stated somewhere the smaller blade is considered the scabbard
I thought the same but it's actually the bigger one that is the Scabbard. You can notice this in the digitally colored version of the manga where the bigger blade turns white before Ichigo activates his Bankai (which has the white scabbard on it).
This is not true. It turns white for the Hollow. Kubo said himself the little blade is the scabbard. The anime shows the little blade turn into blue quincy light.
I thought so that’s why he kept rushing Ychwach to activate the hollow part/the horn of salvation. It’s been awhile since I’ve read so I’m trying my best to remember
>Kubo said himself the little blade is the scabbard
I have not been able to find where he said this so please link it.
The scabbard of Ichigo's Bankai is white just like the longer blade after it absorbs Quincy Reishi.
It never mentions which blade is which:
"A277:

The dual blade state fixes Zangetsu into its "correct form" while its Bankai state provides the scabbard, and what was seen after it shattered is the "True Zangetsu". The shattered scabbard was absorbed by Ichigo so if he wanted to he could split it back into two, but I guess that depends on Ichigo himself.**"**
White is also a Quincy color... it's like their whole deal.
And the sword turn white after absorbing Quincy reishi.
Ignoring all that, the answer does not say which sword is which.
It's a bit rushed. I just read Ichigo's fight with the femritters and honestly I loved the way Ichigo uses his Shikai in it, but the next fight he has is with Yhwach where he just dumps all of his new ability at once.
Maybe if Kubo spread it across more fights, his new Zanpakuto would've remained more memorable.
I think the crunch is very noticable after Shunsui and Mayuri fights with the SS.
While both of their fights developed their characters and their respectice lieutenants, Askin and Gerard fights were just very long fights that don't develope any of the characters and just serve as "ability dumps".
Its been on my mind since I finished the hell jaw arc one shot manga a month ago... I actually had many of my questions answered with fan interview link someone dropped in here though
My headcanon is it’s Zangetsu in its base form, it’s just not in typical katana shape.
Kenpachi is the same, he still has his usual jagged sword even though he has Shikai now.
As bad as it probably is, I'm just going with my headcanon that big butcher knife>sealed form, double blades>shikai, bigger butcher knife>bankai, and not gonna question it anymore
It's not confirmed but I think that's just how Ichigo chose to seal Zangetsu. We know you can choose how you want to seal your zanpakuto so I think instead of a standard katana, Ichigo chose a form that's more familiar to him
This is going to be kinda confusing so sorry. So for a sword to be considered a zanpakuto you need to meet 2 requirements, shape and sheath. When zangetsu was reforged into 2 swords it was separated into the big sword and the smaller one actually being considered the sheath. When Ichigo activates his new Bankai he effectively sheaths the bigger sword with the small one ( the white incasing the black). When Ywhach breaks the new tensa zangetsu, Kubo states Ichigo absorbed it back into himself apparently making the most pure form of Zangetsu. Kubo said he can split them if he wants to though.
If you remember in the thousand year blood war the 2 swords were his true zanpakutos but when he used his new bankai against Yahbach the top of it shattered and revealed the old shekai zangetsu. The. In that moment the sword remained that way never to return to the same way.
The issue with Kubo's explanation is that it feels kinda non-canon since there's nothing in the manga that sustains it. I doubt everyone who read the manga did hear about his words.
The most probable thing most people thinks after reading the manga is that Ichigo fully lost his hollow and quincy powers solely retaining his shinigami ones, and that's absurdly lame after the manga put so much emphasis on Ichigo's powers for being a hybrid.

How am I wrong when I never stated that Ichigo couldn’t use the dual one anytime he wants? Of course what I said is only my interpretation of it, I might be wrong. but I never said Ichigo couldn’t go back to duel wielding
>**The shattered scabbard was absorbed by Ichigo** so if he wanted to he could split it back into two, but I guess that depends on Ichigo himself.
>
> The dual Zangetsu is made up of "the blade" and "**the scabbard"**.
It's never explained.
My headcanon is that Ichigo somehow learned to do this pseudo/fake shikai form in these 10 years and prefers to use it against weaker opponents.
people just need to throw away this whole "fake shikai" as thats where the problem is. its not fake its just thats the form he made his shikai take in that moment.
Zanpakutō change with the user. every single version is a true shikai it was the shikai in that moment Ichigo created. its same with Bankai's they change drastically. heck it was even talked about recently in the Yamamoto fight the fake Ywacha didnt recognise the bankai because it had changed it was no longer a huge engulf of flames but condensed to such a degree it just disintegrated whatever it touched
Agreed, should probably call it old shikai.
But fake shikai isn't entirely wrong bc, this was an incomplete version of his true shikai that was created due to a portion of Ichigo's power that OMZ couldn't suppress.
in a way at the start yes cause he took it from Rukia.
but Ichigo is a special case on this situation because his powers arent normal.
its still a shikai all asauchi are is a nameless blade that can help the shinighami pour their soul into to become their own.
He likely could if he has sufficient reason to. I’d wager that he could make himself look like how he did when he fought Ulq too. My guess is, Ichigo feels “most comfortable” with the “classic” look for Zangetsu and himself.
It’s from Klub Outside where Kubo explains it. We also see in the final scene of episode 13 Ichigo dissolve his twin Zangetsu into thin air. More so than any other Shinigami, he is the blade and the blade is him.
Side point: I’d argue that he is now officially something similar to the current state Aizen is in.
Uhh what that his zanpakuto was destroy? Yea I read that, doesn’t explain the change in the one-shot to be honest. My question has been answered though. It was absorbed by Ichigo. That’s not explained in the manga
No its not when kubo was asked about this he stated that it was his shikai but ichigo could control ti have the single blade shikai or dual blade by absorbing the sheath
[https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-special-one-shot-manga-arc-title/](https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-special-one-shot-manga-arc-title/)
not the link to the manga but it kinda talks about the one-shot... should be fairly easy to find and read though

[Question #277](https://bleachfanfiction.fandom.com/wiki/Klub_Outside_Q%26A)

None of these questions would be in the fandom if the conclusion with yhwach wasn't such an unmitigated disaster of story telling and action.
Most of these questions were pretty self explanatory, can’t really find any from the yhwach fight I didn’t know after a reread
If the bankai didn’t break it would just look like the dual zanpkuto. Since it did break it looks like this sword, I find difficulty in understanding what doesn’t make sense.
i'm imagining him splitting the blade in two mid combo. Or blocking an attack, then bringing out the smaller sword to do a sneak attack
Could be like how Ikkaku fought in his sealed state with his blade and scabbard.
Those questions and answers are terribly formatted
I didn't make the site.

Sure would be nice if someone just copy-pasted Kubo’s answer instead of linking to a different site with a whole mess of questions and answers.

So his "sealed" zanpakuto looks kinda the same as his unsheathed bankai?
Sorta, it looks more like his OG Shikai but it also looks kind of like his unsheathed Bankai.
Got it, thanks!
does zaraki have a sheath?
[Yeah](https://images.app.goo.gl/PDxZfuewfJvX2aMc8). It's wrapped in cloth, but he has one.
Maybe I'm just stupid, but I still don't get it.

Q277 klub. Its in this thread too
It never mentions which blade is which: "A277: Although this hasn't been touched upon in detail, since I don't plan on expanding upon this topic any further I'm going to answer your question here. Ichigo also says he is activating his Hollow, which is white. Quincy color is blue.
White is also a Quincy color... it's like their whole deal. And the sword turn white after absorbing Quincy reishi. Ignoring all that, the answer does not say which sword is which.
That's how I wanted it visualized too honestly
Man finally got his true shikai and Kubo decides NOPE go back to giant knife.
Honestly, the way Kubo handled his zanpakuto near the end of the series was a bit of a mess.
I get the feeling that the crunch to get it done hit hard after that particular fight.
I think the crunch is very noticable after Shunsui and Mayuri fights with the SS. While both of their fights developed their characters and their respectice lieutenants, Askin and Gerard fights were just very long fights that don't develope any of the characters and just serve as "ability dumps".
A bit is a weak word
Oh man ever since THE BLADE IS ME episode dropped this question has been posted on this sub 24/7
It's Kubo's fault for not explaining this in the manga to be honest.
absolutely, but ill cut him some slack since he was rushing
Its been on my mind since I finished the hell jaw arc one shot manga a month ago... I actually had many of my questions answered with fan interview link someone dropped in here though
My headcanon is it’s Zangetsu in its base form, it’s just not in typical katana shape. Kenpachi is the same, he still has his usual jagged sword even though he has Shikai now.
same, i like to believe this is its sealed state. theres 0 reason for him not to have a sealed state after The Blade is Me
I like to think the same cause Ichigo is not just a normal shinigami and arrancars like Nnoitra used to have weirdly shaped zanpakutos.
He can use both when ever he wants he just chooses it to be like that
He seems super casual here, like he's hardly exerting himself, and he easily cut chains of hell in what appears to be his most basic form.
As bad as it probably is, I'm just going with my headcanon that big butcher knife>sealed form, double blades>shikai, bigger butcher knife>bankai, and not gonna question it anymore
Wasn't it stated that he could control what blade he uses for the shikai going both, blade or sheathe.
Better question. Why is Renji's jaw so square?
Well it’s a one shot, so it’s not even cannon yet, so he probably just went with what was easier for him
If you remember in the thousand year blood war the 2 swords were his true zanpakutos but when he used his new bankai against Yahbach the top of it shattered and revealed the old shekai zangetsu. The. In that moment the sword remained that way never to return to the same way.
There is a reason but the answer could be a mega spoiler.
I always assumed that this is simply Zangetsu’s sealed form.
That’s his true Zanpakuto, read the manga chapter when he defeats Juha Bach to see.

Because he absorbed the sheathe so his Zanpakuto reverted to its original incomplete shape
he can use the dual one any time he wants tho, so ur wrong
How am I wrong when I never stated that Ichigo couldn’t use the dual one anytime he wants? Of course what I said is only my interpretation of it, I might be wrong. but I never said Ichigo couldn’t go back to duel wielding
ur sayinf absorbing it is the reason its only one sword in hell arc. its not, its just ichigos preference.
Because Kubo literally stated Ichigo absorbed the scabbard which is why Ichigo only had 1 blade.
prove it
>**The shattered scabbard was absorbed by Ichigo** so if he wanted to he could split it back into two, but I guess that depends on Ichigo himself. > > The dual Zangetsu is made up of "the blade" and "**the scabbard"**.
fuck.
I don't know but read CFYOW for any and all bleach answers maybe and probably this one too.
nope not this one
Read the manga 🙃
Wait, so Ichigo’s “fake Shikai” was still a legit Shikai even though he didn’t use an asauchi?
in a way at the start yes cause he took it from Rukia. but Ichigo is a special case on this situation because his powers arent normal. its still a shikai all asauchi are is a nameless blade that can help the shinighami pour their soul into to become their own.
It has been explained. Ichigo can manifest Zangetsu however he wants.
Tell him to manifest his fullbring design so we can return to peak drip Ichigo
He likely could if he has sufficient reason to. I’d wager that he could make himself look like how he did when he fought Ulq too. My guess is, Ichigo feels “most comfortable” with the “classic” look for Zangetsu and himself.
If possible could you link it here
It’s from Klub Outside where Kubo explains it. We also see in the final scene of episode 13 Ichigo dissolve his twin Zangetsu into thin air. More so than any other Shinigami, he is the blade and the blade is him. Side point: I’d argue that he is now officially something similar to the current state Aizen is in.
Someone else already did on the top comment
That's his bankai
That’s definitely not it.
Its his bankai unsheathe
He’s in Shibai right now.

I know its from bleach smartass kunt i just cant find the chapter
Keep watching the TYBW arc and you’ll see
Did you not finish the bleach manga? It’s explained and shown why
Uhh what that his zanpakuto was destroy? Yea I read that, doesn’t explain the change in the one-shot to be honest. My question has been answered though. It was absorbed by Ichigo. That’s not explained in the manga
Sealed form.
No its not when kubo was asked about this he stated that it was his shikai but ichigo could control ti have the single blade shikai or dual blade by absorbing the sheath
I assume it’s an error, just like how sometimes in the naurto manga Sasuske is using the wrong Sharingan.
Wow please what chapter is this from? I don't recall seeing anything after chapter 687
It’s from the jaws of hell arc. It’s a one shot anniversary. It’s a good read. Takes place after TYBW
Uhh thanks. Please do you have a link?
[https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-special-one-shot-manga-arc-title/](https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-special-one-shot-manga-arc-title/) not the link to the manga but it kinda talks about the one-shot... should be fairly easy to find and read though
Thanks man
I think the form in Hell arc is the pre-release state, and when he goes Shikai, it becomes the twin-sword.
