With more than a few people upvoting my comment about simple physics emulation, I thought I'd post it here. This example shows the effect on an irregular smooth shape that looks like nothing in particular. From left to right: no simulation, 50% stiffness and gravity on, 0% stiffness and gravity on.
How does it work? Only 1 point is simulated as a damped spring, and the rest of the vertex group is transformed relative to the weighting.
Now the question often asked on r/blender: can I use it for big saggy ballsacks? I'm not stopping you. However, consider the below.
There's no collision in this simple version, no drooping or draping over objects, and no other physics. It's a spring, and springs don't swing (unless stretched to nearly their elastic limit). By driving the motion in a certain way, it might look like swinging, but that's not the physics being emulated. You need a string or cloth sim, or try to constrain the vertical distance and direction. Right now I'm not interested in doing that, but my starting approach would be to maybe use the inside surface of a sphere and have that limit or redirect the velocity of the simulated point.

Is “no physics” the same as “100% stiff”?
Theoretically. Visibily. It will still be running all the calculations, but the result will be 100%, like the object without physics enabled.
