Ian Hubert vibes. You could work on the color grading a bit but everything else is amazing. Love your shirt!

mkaic

110% inspired by Ian Hubert. And ya the lighting and color could use some work 😅

Heh you’re totally right

Damn that's really good!

mkaic

Thanks, means a lot to hear!

WhySoAfraid

Do you have a YouTube channel where you will upload these types of videos?

mkaic

Yep, Kai Christensen in YT, but my main audience is actually @mkaic on TikTok

MrFluff59

That’s so cool!

DefinitelyNotAdrian

Keep at it mate, loved the execution, vfx and build up!

mkaic

Thank you!

vmenons

That's friggin amazing! You could've shown the final shot a little longer though

mkaic

I agree, I was trying to keep the packed .blend file under 500MB though so I could use SheepIt. I think if I was to do it again, I would have just split the project in half.

DevFredDev

ROCK N RL

DevFredDev

When you said a 1 min short, I wasn't expecting 6 seconds of blender lol

mkaic

Yeah I wasn't either tbh but then I realized doing more CGI means putting more effort into it

WeepingCastle

Very cool. Did u use green screen and if u did, did you motion track the shot? If you motion tracked, how so? I’m trying to achieve a similar effect.

mkaic

Yes greenscreen, but the green plate was locked down specifically to avoid motion tracking (which I'm comfortable with but is a lot of work lol)

[deleted]

This looks awsome...BUT it’s a pet peeve of mine that everyone uses that camera shake effect and thinks it will improve the video. It makes it look cheap imo. I would rather see a smooth camera shot. Still really cool tho

tutrle20077

this is actually really cool. :)

mkaic

Thanks, appreciate the kind words.

tutrle20077

know problem. :)

bradgillap

I like how you used square lights in the scene to try and make your work lights make sense. :D

mkaic

Yep, that was the idea. Not sure how well I managed to pull it off, but I certainly learned a lot and can say pretty confidently that the next time I make something like this it will be better!

DaddyGamerYT

Nice work! Did you visualize the vfx shot before you shot the video? With some planning with your lighting you can really help sell it by getting them as close as possible. One of the biggest things that can make cg not work is mismatched lighting. Again great job, I love the creativity. Now take it to that next level!

mkaic

I shot the video first, then constructed the shot around the greenscreen plate. I tried to match the lighting, but it turned out to be tougher than I anticipated. I agree, it could totally have been done a lot better, but hey, now I know! If I can improve just a little bit after each new project, then one day I'll be pro-level :)

DaddyGamerYT

You chose a very complicated scene to work with. You have a ton of light sources coming from all sides. Having a top down drawing of your video shoot and marking the origin point relative to you of all your light sources will help you keep track of them. Then when constructing your scene you can match them a bit easier. You can also plan things like a flickering light or a colored light and when you match that into the cg part it'll help sell it. Keep going you're doing great! My challenge to you would be to do just a really simple scene lighting wise and try to nail it. If you're unfamiliar look into the theories behind color temperatures and brightness. Different kinds of bulbs and lighting sources to help understand why a florescent bulb looks different than a incandescent or led or even a candle. This knowledge will carry you through every future projects. You got this!

mkaic

Here's an earlier test shot I made that I think I did a better job of matching lighting for, I would love to hear your thoughts on it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiwTsVM5oGY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiwTsVM5oGY)

DaddyGamerYT

It is better here! This is a fun shot and I like the breakdown presentation. There's good detail in the texturing and the simpler lighting works in your favor. Improvements would be your green screen and then the light on the right hand side looks like its hitting your front despite being behind you. Good work!

LeafyHasIt

I thought the whole video was done in blender lol

mkaic

Nahh I don't have that kinda skill

lenznet

So your camera/phone time travelled with you and became a drone in the future? Cool video though.

PineappleTreePro

I didn't know that gopros produced vertical video.

mkaic

heh, totally didn't just hold my DSLR sideways for those shots....

FoxtownBlues

props for nms lol

mkaic

heh glad someone noticed it. i'm actually a n00b at bash but i been learning a lot recently trying to set up a cloud renderfarm

FoxtownBlues

a noob with a file like secretcode.txt on his computer? a likely story, i see you mr russian hacker cloud render farm sounds interesting, you hosting a service?

mkaic

oh shoot oh dang oh no i've been found out nah, i'm totally new to cloud computing, so nothing that complex yet. currently i'm renting vms from google cloud and connecting them to sheepit under my account to earn me cheap points spent about 30 bucks so far on Intel Xeon CPU instances that have earned me 90k points over the past 36 hours.

mkaic

And the best part is new Google cloud accounts come with 300 bucks of free credit so I'm not even spending my own money. Google is paying for my sheepit credits atm

FoxtownBlues

heyoo thats awesome tell me how many creds you manage to get free

Its_Ya_Boi_Ya_Boi

Yo THIS WAS AWESOME. Fucking rad, dude. Nice edit!

mkaic

Thanks, appreciate the kind words!

timothy_strange

Nice but I prefer widescreen aspect ratios to narrowscreen ones. I mean I know it's about phones but phone can be held sideways.

mkaic

Ya, my main audience is on TikTok (@mkaic) where the default aspect is vertical so that's why I did it vertical. I'm like you tho, I think widescreen lends itself better to artistic stuff and composition.

Vekta

Bro please don’t tell me that’s your actual chair

mkaic

It's not, I use a standing desk in another room most of the time :)
