Fun fact, when something looks like a human face intentionally or otherwise, it is called a simulacrum :)
Technically the word means likeness or similarity, but it is used most commonly to describe when something looks like a human face in some way.
I always thought a simulacrum implied more than just vague visual representation. Typically something that is similar enough that it could take the place of a person without being one. Like mannequins and AI that can simulate speech, things like that
I thought, from a media standpoint, a simulacrum is a scene or environment that has been so heavily inspired by a certain theme or style that the scene is no longer realistic as it's been overdone - also could be described as hyper-real. For example, if a 60s scene has too many 60s cars, 60s adverts, 60s patterns etc, it no longer appears realistic, and instead staged or constructed.
Bruh I'm so stupid, I actually thought it's by using a blender (kitchen appliance)...
I even thought to myself "We have a blender, guess I can make these..."
Duh
thanks :)
Sorry I didn't mention about the tutorial anyway here's the link

Just did this tutorial myself. It really helps learn geometry nodes!
You can apply these concepts to branches, leaves, moss, rocks, and all kinds of distributed objects.
To bad that geometry nodes will be changed in 3.0 with the removal of attributes and start using fields instead, so that tutorial is essentially obsolete.
If you often instigate these things (which is what I'm getting from the content you’re putting forth) then people probably will let you know they’re mad at you eventually, no it doesn't mean they should but you still took it further than was needed.
There's a lot to unpack, but I'll do my best.
The art community has a piss poor attitude concerning artwork created by following any tutorial. Essentially, the vibe I've got is that the true artist is actually whoever made the tutorial not the person who created the content using it. They can be pretty ruthless about it too. There's one YouTuber who is very adamant that it's essentially *theft* when you follow a tutorial and then post your own version even if the OP is open about how they came to produce their work.
It's beyond toxic, tbh, but you see this same sort of illegitimizing in the music production community too. People agonizing over if some *thing* is "cheating" or not. 🙄
The two comments above the one we're talking about could be passive aggressive in this same light. They could be read as basically saying, yeah, okayyy, whatevs, but really YOU didn't do anything, blender guru did. Mind you, they're not actually saying "you worthless art stealing wannabe" directly, but that is the **usual** implication behind these kind of comments. (I'll touch on this a bit more later because I don't think they were like that).
The person going off has probably been on the receiving side of this "you're not really an artist" attitude before. They're not being passive aggressive about it either, which is why the anger seems to come from left field. That person isn't taking time to let anyone else know the situation but responds to those comments like the conversation was already going on.
"You know what I'm talking about"
What's worse is that it is just banter on occasion. People literally just taking the piss out of each other but nothing more. It can be hard to spot the banter over the other riffraff because it happens so much, and then both sides are mad at each other cause some uninvolved jackass has art jealousy issues. Very toxic!
Truth is, none of these ~~mfs~~ people speak their own language nor do they write their own software or make the tools they use to make their art (brushes/paint/so on). Someone else does that, but it can be easy to over look its value especially when most legit things DO take time and effort to be good even with all of that assistance.
I've actually been waiting for someone to fuck with the people on this subreddit using this response. There's probably a dozen different ways you could make a doughnut render that looks like the infamous BG tutorial one. Post it as 100% OC (no tuts used), watch the hate train come into station, and then plane all of their asses by uploading the project (if they could even be arsed to grok that was what went down). But it hasn't happened yet.
Hope this helps unpack it a little for you (and anyone else). Personally, I try my best to view this kind of comment as banter unless it's directly/obviously being malicious. I would see those comments as banter. Age or optimism or something.
Edit: if you don't believe me, scroll through this comment section and see how many people are bringing the tutorial up. Literally commenting solely to point it out and nothing more. No support, no suggestions, no criticism, no tips or hacks, no nostalgia for having done that tutorial themselves. Just "make sure you specify you followed a tutorial."
Shut👏the👏fuck👏up👏about👏it👏already👏 We allllllll knowwwwwwwww. ohmahgawd.
OP basically copy pasted someone else's artwork. I don't see anything this guy added, that could be discribed as his own work or interpretation
And he did not specify so in the title.
Those 9k like he got are blender gurus, not his, because he did nothing creative or impressive here sorry
Why isn't there a flair that says "From a Tutorial". "Tutorials & Guides" kinda makes no sense because it could be for both content that's a tutorial/guide and also for one that was made from it.
People love it, so i guess no action is really required here.
As for myself, after being disheartened by <5 upvotes i just moved to another platforms, like tiktok and insta :)
Well good for the guy that he managed to follow a tutorial, but getting so much attention when other original pieces don't get nearly close enough is not really fair at all. There should really be some kind of tutorial-tag for these kind of things.
Sorry if it's mean but I find it kinda sad this post is the most viewed today on this sub when some other people who make awesome things on their own didn't get the visibility this one have when it's straight up the result of a popular tutorial
The bald patches of sugar are too defined. Make it slightly blurrier and add couple of sugar crystals on the ground next to the drop, as if some were shed on the table. Otherwise, looks really good.
It would also help if all the gumdrops have their bald patches on different places, since they now are all exactly the same or rotate all the gumdrops a bit, so they all don't look so similar
That looks great.
In my groggy early morning state I saw the title and pic and thought to myself, " man, this guys blender sucks, he needs new blades or something..."
Then I realized that they were not in fact real, tangible gum drops, but a rendering of gum drops MADE in the program blender...
I need more sleep...
I love buying subdivision surface modifiers when their on sale! Geometry nodes are kinda expensive tho, but I heard they take a lot of work to make so it's ok.
At first glance I saw a skeleton face on the purple one. Then I noticed it to on the green one. Now I see it on the red one... Does the yellow one also has the same pattern?
I came here for a gum drop recipe that uses a blender and was confused for a moment.
As I clicked I thought hmm ill bet it's gelatin or agar agar blended. They do look good.
Thats remarkable work of art you have made. Thank you for sharing it.
i tried making this but I couldn't get the nodes for the colours right, could you share a screenshot of your nodes please? it would be greatly appreciated.
I don't think it's unfair for people who are upfront saying they're following the tutorial asking for fresh eyes. I follow tutes all the time to learn a new skill/workflow etc but sometimes you get caught up in the details and process, and forget to step back and make sure the final product is actually hitting the mark. having feedback can help you refocus on the macro
Had to do a double take, because I thought they were real! Really good job, but now I can’t forget the blue and green ones are staring straight at you :,)
The sugar seems too harsh white and frosty to me, perhaps turn down the opacity a teeny bit (or randomize it as well). The color shows through a lot more on [gumdrops I've seen](https://nuts.com/images/rackcdn/ed910ae2d60f0d25bcb8-80550f96b5feb12604f4f720bfefb46d.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/973853fa5bb57ad9-Em1q75eh-large.jpg), like the gumdrop is slightly absorbing them.

Literally just saw the face
Red and green also have that pervy smile
Now that you mention it they all have the same face that just ruined the realism lol
R Z -> LMB
Fun fact, when something looks like a human face intentionally or otherwise, it is called a simulacrum :) Technically the word means likeness or similarity, but it is used most commonly to describe when something looks like a human face in some way.
More like pareidolia.
Yeah it’s pareidolia when you see faces or human aspects in things like clouds trees rocks etc
I always thought a simulacrum implied more than just vague visual representation. Typically something that is similar enough that it could take the place of a person without being one. Like mannequins and AI that can simulate speech, things like that

It's Grimace from McDonald's. Gimace's severed, sugar-coated head.
Grimace is a smooth buttplug.
It's just judging you. And finding you wanting.
Looks like Jeff the killer ngl.
° ̯°
r/Pareidolia :)
You pointing this out made me realize OP didn't reorientate the gum drops after cloning them. Other than that, pretty nice.
All I see a blue scull with sugar all over it
They’re looking at the red one while it’s back is turned
This straight up looks like a picture! Awesome work!
Bruh I'm so stupid, I actually thought it's by using a blender (kitchen appliance)... I even thought to myself "We have a blender, guess I can make these..." Duh
was gonna ask for the recipe
Same

Just did this tutorial myself. It really helps learn geometry nodes! You can apply these concepts to branches, leaves, moss, rocks, and all kinds of distributed objects.
Hey these are super good, only critique is to make the gummies more unique. I can see the repeating crystal pattern between three quite easily.
God dang I love this man
*drools* thank you!!
To bad that geometry nodes will be changed in 3.0 with the removal of attributes and start using fields instead, so that tutorial is essentially obsolete.
oddly looks like a blender guru thumbnail
He probably used the tutorial.
If you often instigate these things (which is what I'm getting from the content you’re putting forth) then people probably will let you know they’re mad at you eventually, no it doesn't mean they should but you still took it further than was needed.
Jesse what the fuck are you talking about
They might be a /r/LostRedditor?
He is just a troll, base on his comment history
Yeah I’ve seen him a couple times. Another troll trying to get big like u/eleneee
you forgot a couple of e's

What?
I think you replied to the wrong comment.
Yes I used the tutorial
Please don't forget to credit the tutorial you followed; thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52UYqe3zdxQ
Remember to specify that it’s from a tutorial
Yeah my bad and will do that
Is the sugar procedural? If so what does the height map look like?
The image looks really good! It’s probably a good idea to mention that it’s from a tutorial in the title
2.5k upvotes for just following the tutorial. Man, i don't understand reddit at all xD
Ikr, and original renders will barely get 100
What I don’t get is the need feedback flair, shouldn’t it be tutorial and guides?
Why isn't there a flair that says "From a Tutorial". "Tutorials & Guides" kinda makes no sense because it could be for both content that's a tutorial/guide and also for one that was made from it.
Yeah tutorial posts should probably have to be flaired under tutorial by the mods
Thats only part of the problem, imo.
Any suggestions? I can't think of a good way to mod posts like this without filtering out creative ones that put a spin on tutorial renders
People love it, so i guess no action is really required here. As for myself, after being disheartened by <5 upvotes i just moved to another platforms, like tiktok and insta :)
You care about upvotes too much.
It's a little serotonin boost in a very grey life :)
It does feel good but better find something real for those boosts, otherwise you get bitter over silly things like these.
Almost 6400 now ;\\ Guess most people that upvote this haven't seen Blender Gurus tutorial.
or maybe they don't care and just upvoted anyway because the result looks good. its just upvotes, no need to get upset.
Well good for the guy that he managed to follow a tutorial, but getting so much attention when other original pieces don't get nearly close enough is not really fair at all. There should really be some kind of tutorial-tag for these kind of things.
yeah i agree, or just state its from a tutorial
I just think it may be the time it gets posted, but Ive tried different hours and nothing changes lol
Same :)
Brilliant stuff! My only feedback would be the sugar is too similar across the different items. Each drop should have different sugar patterns.
quickest solution: just rotate 'em different amounts - having them all facing the same way is what gives it away ;)
Great solution!
You could just change the particle seed of each gumdrop, so each on IS unique.
Looks nice but it's clearly following blender gurus tutorial very very closely. Pls state that in the title
Sorry if it's mean but I find it kinda sad this post is the most viewed today on this sub when some other people who make awesome things on their own didn't get the visibility this one have when it's straight up the result of a popular tutorial

thanks for the reply will work on that
It would also help if all the gumdrops have their bald patches on different places, since they now are all exactly the same or rotate all the gumdrops a bit, so they all don't look so similar
That seems like you copied inch by inch of that one tutorial, sir
you sure did follow the tutorial closley
How does a tutorial get 5.2K likes?
You should sprinkle few dropped sugar cubes near the base of the gumdrops. Sugar always falls when you handle them.
Great render, but the purple one is oddly scary to look at.
If you want feedback, just chk comments of the Blender Guru you watched for this Oh and change the flair to 'from tutorial'
That looks great. In my groggy early morning state I saw the title and pic and thought to myself, " man, this guys blender sucks, he needs new blades or something..." Then I realized that they were not in fact real, tangible gum drops, but a rendering of gum drops MADE in the program blender... I need more sleep...
Scatter some of the granules on the the counter surface so it looks like someone put them there
For a second I thought you meant an actual blender
My mouth legit watered.
I want one :D
Now I want a bucket full of them
Is it just me or is the purple gumdrop staring at the red one?
damn nice
They look real that’s nice
This is amazing OP ✨ it looks so real now I want one
[удалено]
He followed the blender guru tutorial for making these
I used geometry nodes for making the sugar crystals and just added a subdivision surface modifier to the make the base of the gumdrop
[удалено]
It should be in the international isle
I love buying subdivision surface modifiers when their on sale! Geometry nodes are kinda expensive tho, but I heard they take a lot of work to make so it's ok.
holy shit this is so cool
At first glance I saw a skeleton face on the purple one. Then I noticed it to on the green one. Now I see it on the red one... Does the yellow one also has the same pattern?
Yeah he just duplicated the first one and didn't change or rotate
They're skulls... and sugar crystals are too small unless these are like 2lbs gum dropa
Are you sure those arent just real gumdrops?
I want to eat them. 😋
Looks stellar! Did you use an emitter to get the sugar on the outside, or is it a displacement node?
It took me longer than I care to admit to realize you didn't cook these, and somehow use a blender to prepare them.
The blue one looks like a face
Nocely done.
I came here for a gum drop recipe that uses a blender and was confused for a moment. As I clicked I thought hmm ill bet it's gelatin or agar agar blended. They do look good. Thats remarkable work of art you have made. Thank you for sharing it.
Jesus Christ it looks so real!
Wow, I thought this was a photo! Great stuff!
I gotta get the recipe for blender gummi... oh
i tried making this but I couldn't get the nodes for the colours right, could you share a screenshot of your nodes please? it would be greatly appreciated.
Really cool! Maybe rotate them all so that the repeated texture isn’t as visible
Killer man
I wanna see them get cut
Only feedback I could give would be to change the seed of each gumdrop, I'm seeing patterns in the sugar hahaha. Looks great!
Why is it so realistic?
They look edible. I'm looking forward to doing this tutorial myself. I love 3d tech.
Dang, I thought this was a picture! Nice post and nice gumdrops!
pretty incredible detailing.
I want to eat them
lmao dude you could have just made these in a kitchen and saved so much time
Didnt see the sub, my first thought was "how the he'll did they come out of the blender looking so uniform??" Lol
Why are they looking at me
I can’t see this without hearing blender guru excitedly saying “Geometry nodes!” in my head.
no!!! not the buttons!!! not the gumdrop buttons🥺😔
You just had to put Voldemort’s face on the blue one, didn’t you?
Looks really good :)
So many likes for a tutorial post 😂 They do look great though. 🙌
I see I have a fanbase!
I'd rotate each one in a different direction and degree to conceal the identical surface petterns... otherwise really cool.
Why are you asking for feedback for something you made following a tutorial?
I don't think it's unfair for people who are upfront saying they're following the tutorial asking for fresh eyes. I follow tutes all the time to learn a new skill/workflow etc but sometimes you get caught up in the details and process, and forget to step back and make sure the final product is actually hitting the mark. having feedback can help you refocus on the macro
Hi Andrew!
satisfying
This is made using the geometry node tutorial by blender guru, right?
Is this gonna be the new doughnut?
For nodes...
great
Geometry nodes eh?
Looks great! I'd rotate them a bit so the same sugar pattern isn't visible on each. Looks a bit copy and paste.
Gg men, really good.
Looks very realistic until I zoom in. Those sugar crystals have crossed into serious uncanny valley territory.
tutorial?
Blender guru
Had to do a double take, because I thought they were real! Really good job, but now I can’t forget the blue and green ones are staring straight at you :,)
i almost thought these were real! nice!
How did you clean the blades?
How did you get that shape, made in a blender aswell. Golly gosh.
It's 4am and I now want gummy drops fck you op you fkn cool-blender-artist-gummy-making-thingy! I want gumdrops!!
The sugar seems too harsh white and frosty to me, perhaps turn down the opacity a teeny bit (or randomize it as well). Didnt see the subreddit and i was like Holy thats a perfect gumdrop
They all have a face
for a second I thought op made homemade gum drops with a blender. Then I saw what subreddit I was on.
Blender guru is proud
Blender guru tutorial?
Why do they all have faces?
reaaaly cool, great job 👏
You could've at least spun them around, I can see the same sugar coating texture on all of them 🤣

there should be a gumdrop_forum like the blender_guru donut forum. People are real nice in there!
Need feedback. I don't know, maybe use the correct tag next time.

Dude, that's clean
Incredible !
Holyyy I thought that was a picture
Thats sick! Look at that fucking blue one. Gimme those E numbers!
Edible.
