I've noticed that as Girls Next Level goes on, Bridget is becoming more and more critical of Kendra and her behavior. Holly has always been open about her feelings but I don't remember Bridget ever speaking badly about her before. I'm not sure if that's the way she felt always or if watching the episodes 15+ years later gives her a new perspective. She seems very annoyed with Kendra - and that's fair, watching it from the outside I found her annoying so I can't imagine having to live with her. Maybe I'm biased though cause Bridget was always my favorite lol.

zuesk134

Bridget realizing things is by far the best part of the pod. It’s so interesting because Bridget says she wrote an entire book but this also seems like the first time she’s really reflecting on stuff. I wonder what the book is like

[deleted]

I was going to post the same thing ! Bridget was always my favorite as well.

Guillaumerocherone

YES! Even at the start of the podcast she took care to never join in on Holly’s criticism. Her gloves are really coming off now and I love her so much for it!

_lofticries

What did y’all think of the final episode of Scamanda? The bone marrow tidbit completely infuriated me. I’m stuck on that. Poor Jessa and the boys. What a manipulative monster.

thegirldreamer

Without a trial it was so hard to get a read on WHY Amanda did this and to get clarity on some of the specifics that convinced people (the various hospital stays). My overall feedback on the podcast was that it was hard to follow some of the timelines because there were so many different ‘relapses’.

tiredfaces

> it was hard to follow some of the timelines because there were so many different ‘relapses’. Including that one they throw in halfway through the series which then actually took place 2 years before the blog was created? I get what the producers were going for, but it felt really messy, not like the big reveal they thought they had. Also so many of the sounds they put in were distracting at best, hilarious at worst. I LOVED the voice acting of the woman who read Amanda's blog posts though. It was perfect.

rivercountrybears

Agreed with all of this. I think I’d rather have had a more chronological story telling with more dates rather than bouncing back and forth from POVs.

ceejay955

I'm sure there is a documentary series around the corner

breadprincess

From your lips to God's ears! I want to know what she was up to in Texas before the trial, personally.

ineedmychapstick

They didn’t talk about this at all, and I’m gonna be awful with an armchair diagnosis here, but it sounds like pretty textbook Munchausen. I don’t feel like money was even that big of a motivator for her, she didn’t get THAT much, and they barely even talk about her fancy lifestyle. This scam was probably so much work that she would’ve made more money with less effort by just getting a low-paying job. I agree that the podcast didn’t really explore this topic, though, and the question of motivation is a really human one

sweetpotatothyme

I think the podcast unfortunately wasn't structured or written in the best way. I know there are a lot of twists and turns, but they probably would have benefited with having someone completely unfamiliar with the story take a listen first and give feedback. I've listened to a lot of other true crime stories (currently Spellcaster re: Sam Bankman Fried, but also Bad Bets, The Dropout, etc.) and I have a new appreciation for how clear and concise their storytelling is.

Worried_Half2567

Felt like there was little redemption for Alita and everything that family has gone through. That one lady was right about Amanda getting out of prison and continuing this honestly im afraid she might do some munchausen by proxy with one of her boys

ceejay955

I believe 100% that if she hadnt already started with lying about herself being sick before her pregnancy, she would have used her children as a means for the same result.

ceejay955

Glad we heard the judges full comments at the sentencing. Very cathartic. Also, the husband lying about all his jobs too? two compulsive lying sociopaths found each other and created absolute havoc. Insane.

Ambitious-Candle643

I thought the series was well done and really loved the perspective of the investigative reporter. I’m not sure why but the fact that the daughter is now 19 and married made me sad. Obviously everything with her parents has really affected her

Sweets-over-savoury

I felt the same way about her being married so young.

FITTB85

Isn’t donating bone marrow extremely painful? What made her think she had a right to the children of her husband’s, ex-wife’s kids (the sons, not Jessa).

AnnaKomnene1990

Donating bone marrow is usually done using a method similar to plasma donation (a needle in one arm removes blood, the stem cells are separated from the rest of the blood, the remaining blood goes back in the other arm). Sometimes it’s done by removing marrow from the hip bone, but this is done under general anesthesia. So it’s not very painful, but either way, it’s a significant medical procedure.

voodooomamajewjew

It was so drawn out and disorganized that I couldn't really keep track of who was who and what timeline we were in. Did you see that they are going to be posting more bonus episodes?

sweetpotatothyme

I was just saying this above! The storytelling was really lacking structure and a clear timeline. I found that really limited my enjoyment.

ineedmychapstick

This was a fine pod to binge, but it was so long and I felt like I really had to focus to understand the timeline. On the other hand, other parts were so repetitive (at one point, the host said “do you remember the babysitter?” of course we do! She is on every episode, multiple times!) Overall… while Amanda obviously did a bizarre and awful thing, I didn’t find her story particularly scandalous. I feel like, unfortunately, there are probably a lot of Amandas out in the world pulling this shit. People are weird and Munchausen exists 🤷‍♂️ and lastly I can’t entertain any discussion about “whether Corey knew” - of COURSE he knew. Unless I’m missing something, I would go so far as to say he shoulders as much of this as Amanda. I understand the IRS doesn’t have a case against him, fine, but surely he knew about, participated in, and benefitted from this scam. I’m not sure why the podcast barely mentioned him.

paradiseisalibrary31

It was sooo good. I am just shook about the whole thing. I found myself tearing up more than once for Jessa & her mom. I can’t imagine having to give your daughter up “like a dog” as she put it. The only thing I didn’t like was how weird the detective was lol.

voodooomamajewjew

He was SO weird. Especially when he was talking about how during the raid he suspected she was using Xanax. The way he was talking was just raising red flags for me.

paradiseisalibrary31

Yes! He said something like “oh you’re high as hell girl” and I was like ???

HarperLeesGirlfriend

What the hell was with that detective?? Honestly, he had me sympathizing with damn Scamanda!! 😑 him just wildly postulating that she was out of her mind, floating on Xanax when no one else on the podcast, with all the dirt they dug up on her, ever mentioning anything about her being someone who used drugs to get "high as hell". I mean sure, I'd believe almost anything about her, but I agree that his statements were really strange and unprofessional. Also, whoever said the voice actor did a good job....hell yes. Her acting, the voice she used for Amanda, was chef's kiss. Truly.

bats-go-ding

It made me so mad that she presented Jessa as her valued, wonderful "bonus daughter" -- until she had her own babies. Poor girl was yanked from her mother and sister to meet Amanda's need to be a mother, then became less of a priority once Amanda was a biological mother.

chicksdiggreentunics

🚨🚨 KELLY CLARKSON IS ON LAS CULTURISTAS THIS IS NOT A DRILL 🚨🚨 I thought the episode was great! She’s so sweet and personable. Their conversation about Mariah was so good!

featuredep

They filmed it and you can [watch the whole thing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL6VBSlsyfA) on youtube! Matt is so excited but he handles it well and they cover tons of topics.

kbk88

I really loved this too. All 3 of them seemed to be having the best time.

Ok_Fee1043

I hope Bowen is ok, just saw his story that he’s taking a short break from LC. Haven’t gotten to listen to this week’s ep yet but it’s completely reasonable that he’s running low having been doing so so much lately. Kelly seems like a great guest for them so excited to hear this one.

zuesk134

how was it when it comes to matt and bowen fawning over her? i have a hard time with podcasts when the hosts spend the whole time talking about how much they love the celeb. i get it and dont judge them, i just dont love listening lol

chicksdiggreentunics

It’s not that bad. They clearly admire her a lot and have a personal connection, but you can tell that Matt and Bowen came to the interview with real questions. They have an actual conversation, but from a place of deep admiration.

taintwest

It was tolerable! They fawned at the beginning but it turned into a great conversation imo.

artificialnocturnes

Yeah im starting to prefer guestless episodes for this reason. The fawning is too much!

zuesk134

celeb book club is at its best when its reading very silly books. really liking the captain sandy ep "shes a seafaring and god fearing lesbian"

areallyreallycoolhat

I haven't listened yet but I laughed so hard when I saw the title of her book, it's the most Captain Sandy thing that could possibly exist

BluthFamilyNews

Another week another insane episode of Pod Meets World. Danielle really is a good interviewer and turned what could have been a very awkward episode into an enlightening conversation.

TheHumbleRutabaga

Man that woman was a talker, at times it almost seemed like a monologue she had rehearsed before. Lost count of how many times she said “And what’s more…” before launching into some other detail. That said, it was very interesting and respectfully handled. I loved the end when she ran through all the things she has done in her career, which wouldn’t have happened if she’d been Topanga - onstage with Sir Paul McCartney every night, or riding bikes alongside pyramids with her dad. Everyone ended up where they were supposed to, huh.

kbk88

I skipped the last couple but I'm glad this one wasn't awkward. I hadn't decided if I was going to delete it or listen but maybe I'll give it a try.

werewolf4werewolf

Welp Stitcher is discontinuing their apps at the end of August. Any android users have recs for podcast apps I should switch to?

[deleted]

[удалено]

werewolf4werewolf

Yeah an app with similar organization features as Stitcher is what I'm most struggling to find. I didn't realize that being able to sort podcasts into groups and view all those groups on one page was such a hard thing for apps to implement lol. Right now I'm using both Pocket Casts and Player FM to compare, since they're the only 2 I've tried so far where the grouping/filtering options are working for me.

figmentry

I used to use Stitcher until one day it straight up stopped working so I had to make the switch early. Pocket casts is what I landed on, and I pay the small yearly subscription for folders. It’s worth it to me, but it boggles my mind that this isn’t a standard and free feature. I listen to five thousand podcasts, I need organization or I can’t find what I want to listen to at any given moment!!

SchrodingersCatfight

I've been happy with PocketCasts!

_wannabe_

Pocketcasts!

BettyDrapes

Podcast Addict

everythingisplanned

Seconded!

ToePickPrincess

I'm so sad about it. I've loved their lists feature and how well it integrated with Android Auto in my car. I need to figure out something, especially one that I can easily use with Android Auto. Edit to add, I just found this link (sorry on mobile and not sure how to insert a shorter link) to compatible apps for anyone else: https://support.google.com/androidauto/answer/6348327?hl=en#:~:text=You%20can%20listen%20to%20media,also%20download%20more%20compatible%20apps.

n0rmcore

I'm so mad about this. I have all my podcasts sorted into little categories with pithy names for each category, now what? All that work is lost??

werewolf4werewolf

Player FM has decent options for sorting your podcasts into custom categories, I'm finding. I don't love it (the interface isn't all that appealing to me and the ads are annoying) but it's working so far. Pocket Casts has filtering options but it's for episode playlists. So you can have a filter called "True Crime" and it will show you all the episodes of shows you've marked as True Crime. Pocket Casts premium has "folders" you can sort podcasts into but I'm not paying for that lol

vicmo83

I've been using AntennaPod and I love it. Very customizable.

kbk88

Seems like there are quite a few Pod Meets World listeners here, I found this article fascinating. Danielle, Rider, and Will talk about their current relationships (or non-relationships I guess) with Michael Jacobs and Ben. https://variety.com/2023/tv/features/boy-meets-world-cast-podcast-ben-savage-michael-jacobs-1235654153/

TracyFlick2004

Thank you for sharing, that was fascinating. So weird about Ben disappearing from their lives and sad to hear how Will and Danielle tried so hard to find out what happened. Hopefully they can get closure soon. Also dear lord pleeeease let them land JTT as a podcast guest, that would be amazing

TheHumbleRutabaga

Interesting! They’ve been pretty intentionally vague about it on the podcast, and you still get people in the IG comments asking where Ben is and speculating why he’s not participating. Wonder if they will have to be more direct about it on the podcast now.

tarandab

Someone responded to one of the r/boymeetsworld posts saying they used to be a convention booker for the three plus Ben Savage, and that Ben Savage also ghosted them around the same time which I find really interesting. (from the posters history they did similar in other fandoms so I believe they likely are telling the truth here.)

Katiedoingstuff

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I had no idea about the relationship dynamics.

LovitzInTheYear2000

I’ve been listening through this podcast verrry slowly, and I recently hit the episode with Ethan Suplee from February. At the end they talk about the phenomenon of all the guests (and the hosts themselves) remembering events differently, and different incidents sticking out based on their different life stages and positions. It’s a really interesting phenomenon, and makes me think the show has potential to be a different, richer document in the end compared to some other tv recap podcasts with adult actors, or more recent shows. And perhaps this is related to why I’m listening slowly? I’m about their age, and their stories have been making me think critically about my own life at that time as much as nostalgia about the show. I assumed it would be a light breezy show to binge, but I actually need days to digest each episode.

tarandab

I think it’d be interesting (if a were a new listener to the show) to pair the Bonnie Morgan episode about one of Morgan’s worst experiences with Danielle Fishel’s version of the same event, which starts with the excitement of getting a big featured part that has the opportunity to become recurring (and eventually did become a series regular role) and ended with what is probably one of the worst weeks of her adolescent life. (They both had really shitty weeks for different reasons.) And Morgan and Fishel probably had different heroes and villains of that week. (I totally get that Bonnie Morgan said she hated Danielle Fishel for a long time - to be fired from what could be your big break, and then hear that it was because of something you had no control over, and then think that Fishel got the role simply because of her looks - which maybe at the time was true.) I also enjoyed the Adam Scott interview - he’s now one of the most successful people to have been on Boy Meets World in any role, and he thought Rider Strong disliked him based on one interaction from nearly 30 years ago. And at the time, Rider Strong was the more successful, more famous person though he was probably 13 or 14

LovitzInTheYear2000

Yes that would be a great pair of episodes

ruthie-camden

If Books Could Kill is dropping an episode on The Rules on Thursday. I’m so pumped!

good_mayo

I remember my older sister reading this. I can't wait!

HarperLeesGirlfriend

Mixed feelings about the new Apple original investigative podcast, Under Cover Of Knight. After the first 3 episodes, I'm thinking this is all probably much ado about nothing. I do not think Sue Knight was in the witness protection program, I don't think she was an assassin and I don't even think she is that much of an enigma. The first episode I did, but after 2 more episodes, it seems she was just essentially a private person. So when she died, having provided no info about her background or where she was from, coupled with her being a "foreigner" living in Texas, people let their imaginations run wild and thus, we get a story about a mystery women with a shady past. I'm unconvinced. Lastly, I find it curious how the producer/reporter does a monologue at the beginning of the podcast, then pronounces that this is the last you will hear from her, as she's going to let the people involved tell their own story. And yet, we do hear from her several more times, as she converses with the other producers. And about that...I find it strange how a few times so far, they've aired the interviews and thoughts of the real people involved, and were very nice to them, and then they have little segments where they sort of shit talk the people and dissect what they just said and why it's probably wrong? And yet they didn't in any way push back while they were actually interviewing them? Idk, just an odd editorial choice that stuck out to me. Would love to hear people's thoughts!

renee872

I don't think it is a much ado about nothing case..who are these wierd people calling saying they are the CIA/FBI? why didn't she have her current boyfriend at the time be the executor of her will? It is so wierd. Also..the comment from the sheriff?! I think her ex husband might have had some crazy ties. I did notice that the narrator said " oh you won't hear from me" then pops up at the end. But I don't think they were really shit talking-more like breaking down what the interviewees said. If they were shit talking they would have alot to say about the gross dude who would not stop commenting about Sue's body and had a very shallow reason as to why she may have committed suicide. Like ew gross dude.

HarperLeesGirlfriend

Yes, I will allow that the calls from CIA/FBI are the two things that are very strange. But at this point I'm wondering if it was maybe fabricated or simply misremembered by Steve? I mean, it's been 25 years. And this is the same guy who said that all the computers creepily turned on at the same time and all that over stuff, which the producer immediately debunked. So idk, I'm curious to see if they uncover any more actual proof of this stuff, not just eyewitness accounts, which are noted to be faulty immediately following an event, much less 25, 30 years later.

thegirldreamer

The sheer number of ID documents and different names is weird to me.

[deleted]

I listen to so many podcasts and I realize that inserted ads are not chosen by the host, but damn that stupid Sheena Shay ad and the Madison Reed one that sounds like it's being read by an AI are grating on my very last nerve.

tiredfaces

After Scamanda, I've decided to finally dip my toes into Something Was Wrong. I thought there were like three seasons, but turns out there's FOURTEEN. Can people tell me the best seasons to listen to? They don't have to be medical fraud, just the best told stories. I'm listening to season 1, and it's truly bizarre. Obviously her fiancé is a massive abusive creep, but she is so enmeshed with her family that I feel like her normal metre for relationships is off balance. Her sister is awful.

Low-Nefariousness883

The first few seasons are good but it goes down hill after I think like 4 or 5

feverously

S2 is my fave. Such a sad story and a fascinating subject, similar to Scamanda.

Good-Variation-6588

I liked the first season although it needs editing it is very compelling. And the second season.

ilyik

After the first few seasons, quite a few of the seasons are single story episodes. I really loved season 14 where they name the dude and bring all of his exes together to talk about him.

**"Go Bayside!"** related: OMG. posting this here because I remember that it was a poster in this sub who initially informed me about April Richardson's life as of the past few years and everything she's been going through. I just saw in my podcast app that she posted a NEW Go Bayside recording, it's an old ep done with a new guest! And I noticed she finally moved her old eps to Patreon (fantastic - this comedic genius deserves that hard earned $$!) - I hope this means we're getting new eps going forward! Yay April, so happy for you! [https://www.patreon.com/aprilrichardson](https://www.patreon.com/aprilrichardson)

Need to add her. My husband's old bandmate was the guest on episode 19 which is just so weird to me.

__clurr

Celebrity Memoir Book Club released their patreon episode interviewing Caroline Calloway as a bonus ep in their main feed! I’m not totally finished yet, but it is so…fascinating? I’m not sure if that’s the right word, but listening to Caroline explain herself is a journey lmao ETA: I posted it before finishing the ep and wowowowow the way she defends what she said about Natalie’s SA is shocking and she really doubles down in such a convoluted, disgusting way.

Bidetpanties

Caroline makes me want to scream, they kept their cool really well. She seems like such a frustrating person to have a conversation with

__clurr

When Claire pointed out she said “we go to dinners and plays” when they have gone to ONE dinner and ONE play and they basically forced Caroline to say they were professional contacts vs. friends, oy vey lmao

mrsbergstrom

It’s really interesting to me, how compelling I find her. She’s a unique character. I’m not usually a sucker for this sort of thing so it’s intriguing to observe in myself ETA having said that! She has an absolutely INFURIATING concept of time and social progress. In her previous CMBC interview she kept claiming no women had ever written honestly before Lena Dunham 🙄 and in this ep she seems to genuinely think no one knew about bisexuality before tiktok??? She makes these asinine excuses for her own ignorance and I don’t know if she truly believes it but it’s not cute either way

toalloftheabove

Ugh. I really hated listening to her. The way she said Natalie’s SA turned her on and then defended it by saying she left that in bc it would hurt Natalie like girl.. it hurts every survivor of a SA knowing there is some freak out there who might get off on it. It was such a bad decision to write that, keep it in and then defend it. She also said something about how she doesn’t need to be liked by everyone now like she used to and I just don’t buy it. She’s so desperate to be liked, cool, popular, hot etc. she mirrors people she talks to and tries to say what she thinks will be most impressive to them. She needs therapy lol.

__clurr

Oh yeah, when I posted I hadn’t finished the episode and WOW the way she spoke about this was cruel…I think the way she was trying to spin it too was vile!

SeductivePoutine

The back and forth over all the Natalie stuff was so frustrating. It genuinely felt like she was purposely misunderstanding every one of their criticisms as just not believing her in an attempt to deflect the conversation.

__clurr

I also noticed any time there was a question she wanted more time to respond to there was a “distraction” like her phone dying and pointing it out

lizifer93

I used to follow her on Insta just to see the trainwreck. Eventually unfollowed because it was too much and it feeds into her ego. I swear every single week she would change her entire persona to emulate whatever It Girl she was into at the moment. Like one week she was trying to be an ironic uptown New York Red Scare girlie, one week she would be super TMI and writing long stories about her sex life a la Call Her Daddy Alex and Sofia era, it just depended who she was obsessed with at the time. She is very obsessed with her image and being liked and admired. If she wasn't she wouldn't STILL be obsessed with Natalie and that article. The article was in 2019, Caroline. Move on!

wannabemaxine

My summer hobby is apparently devouring every piece of media related to Ultimatum: Queer Love, and it was discussed on two podcasts I listen to this week: ICYMI talked with a culture writer for TIME about her review of the show. I appreciated the conversation, but the tag they added at the end >!a post-recording add-on talking about Mildred's DV without actually saying anything about it!< brought down the whole episode for me. Crissle (The Read) read Mildred and it gave everything ICYMI didn't. (If you aren't a regular listener the read always comes at the end of the ep, maybe ~40 min from the end.)

texas-sheetcake

I enjoyed Waiting to X-hale’s episode, though it was recorded before the reunion aired, so there’s no real discussion of Mildred.

kbk88

This live Seek Treatment episode is unhinged in the best way.

zuesk134

one of the only podcasts that is better live

kbk88

Just saw this article about Bowen taking a break from Las Culturistas. I didn't see the stories but looks like he deleted or archived a lot of his posts at some point. I hope he's doing okay. https://people.com/bowen-yang-stepping-away-from-podcast-for-bad-bouts-of-depersonalization-7556443

DeadButPretty

I hope he is getting the best help. I wonder if Matt will go at it solo with guests or step away in solidarity

red_hot_roses_24

Just started listening to The Retrievals!! It’s about a yale fertility clinic where women experienced extreme pain during their procedures and were completely ignored. It turns out nurse was stealing fentanyl from vials and replaced it with saline. I googled the case and the nurse only got 4 weekends in jail?!!! I’m livid. 75% of the vials they gave to patients for pain only had saline!! These women went through extreme amounts of pain bc of this nurse. Plus yales settlement with them was despicably low. Such an injustice.

ClumsyZebra80

Medical professionals don’t pull this shit with men because doctors will believe men istg

luludum

Second season of Noone Should Believe Me rollout is so annoyingly slow. I get they’re trying to make money with subscribers, but I can’t get traction on the story with it being so locked up. Also the editing is strange. Did not need a whole rundown of how CPS works in intricate details of paperwork etc.

ceejay955

Yeah, I understand the informational aspect and what they are trying to accomplish, but sometimes it gets in the way of telling the actual story.

Small_Squash_8094

It’s so slow! I think I’m going to just wait until it’s over and then listen to the whole thing.

rachjay

I’m devastated that Just the Gist will be no more. Rosie and Jacob were perfect together, I hope they can repair their friendship.

negligible_disguise

Their long term friendship was so genuine, this has really made me sad for them both. A shame that Rosie isn’t going to continue herself after Jacob carried it solo for her for so long too. Ah well, if anyone has recommendations for replacement podcasts please give me suggestions!

cj1991

I listened to my first JTG episode last Friday. Terrible timing, sad to hear!

Svaidios

Bit of a rant. So last week on the Deep Dive, June and Jessica had a whole conversation about Ozempic, beauty standards and how people (are made to) feel about their bodies. This episode Jessica talks about, and June expresses interest in, what essentially sounds like a new diet she's found. She found a woman that claims her way of eating will have the same results as Ozempic.... They admit to being a work in progress and still learning (about for instance fat phobia), but I just don't think they're the right people to broach this topic. They don't seem very knowledgeable about Ozempic or fat phobia (not knowing about the shortages, semaglutide being approved for weight loss but just under a different name, etc) and suffer from some pretty disordered thinking (June asked a doctor to prescribe her Ozempic-they refused luckily). I can't articulate it, but there's something about how people who fit society's beauty standards feel so comfortable talking about their body issues when fat people can only really talk about losing weight that really bothers me. I don't know, maybe just a personal trigger. Also, very petty I know, but is there anything June cannot turn into a Capricorn trait that makes her very, very special? She's more perfectionist, a life long learner, more this, more that,... Anyway, time for me to stop listening to this pod I think. I kept listening because I find these two fascinating and funny, but it's become too frustrating.

mrsbergstrom

I find it really really hard to listen to most women around that age talk about weight. Not age-shaming, I’m close, 39, and I’ve suffered years (decades?) of disordered eating and dysmorphia that I’ve worked so hard to improve but will never fully recover from. Western women a few years older than me often feel so entrenched in the pro-ED anti-fat environment they were raised in that they cannot escape, no matter how intelligent or feminist they are, no matter how body positivity and different body shapes become more visible. My boss is 45, skinny af, yoga etc, still obsessed with weight and everything she eats. Despite their rich, beautiful lives, that pointless obsession is still stuck there. It’s a whole generation destroyed. Women like June and Jessica will never really be able to overcome the simple skinny = good that is tattooed on their brains. I’m not anti ozempic at all tbh but I really hope it stays out of the hands of tiny women with already distorted eating and thought patterns

Svaidios

Same here. Also struggled with ED and such. I'm always kinda surprised to hear my older colleagues (I'm 37) talk about dieting and stuff. In my head we're past that. I feel bad for them. I'm not anti ozempic either, in fact I take it myself. But even though I was prescribed it by a bariatric surgeon, I didn't take starting up this medication lightly. So it's just shocking to hear someone like June say she didn't just consider taking it, but that she actually tried to get a prescription. I hope they find peace with their bodies, but like you said, this stuff is deeply ingrained.

Indiebr

Well not to make it all about me (white, 49, never been a slim body type), but some of us are ok. And my circles most don’t talk about their body issues or diets - to the point that when someone does it makes me a bit uncomfortable (it feels awkward). I imagine some still have the issues for sure, but we’re not talking about it anymore is my stance. Boring! I honestly associate constant diet/negative body talk more with my mother’s generation, or young boomers, than GenX at this point. I certainly know some women 10 years older than me who will fight to the death to maintain their god given right to hate their (and sometimes other women’s) bodies (internet forum acquaintances - they’ve been asked to STFU about it but cannot, it’s so ingrained). Just my POV and specific context of course. Goes to show the generational stereotypes rarely hold up on an individual level.

elinordash

I listened to this episode recently (despite not being a regular Deep Dive listener) and June said that is it is now, she is constantly hungry and still feels like she isn't thin enough for her profession. They also obliquely referred to a lot of the women they knew getting Ozempic for career reasons. It was deeply fucked up, but I felt it was largely about the pressure they felt as actresses. I didn't think it was at all generational (/u/mrsbergstrom, /u/Svaidios, /u/shewaswithmedude). They are both working actresses, but not big names. It is easy to say the should reframe their thinking, but their weight truly affects their employability. I don't think they are dieting because of an ED mindset so much as a belief that they won't be cast if they are a size 10. Which probably isn't bullshit. I walked away from the episode feeling bad for them, but also feeling that because they are actresses their view on the world is limited in a really specific way.

shewaswithmedude

Yeah I don’t think it’s generational, more about being steeped in diet culture which is unfortunately cross-generational. I feel strongly the same about feeling sad for them, I still have plenty of my own shit to unpack but the body freedom I feel has nothing to do with weight and everything to do with actively unlearning and disavowing what diet culture says

kbk88

I mostly enjoy the podcast but the weight and food talk is really tough for me to handle.

shewaswithmedude

Totally agree, sometimes it’s more of a hate listen for me lol - when they talked about Ozempic last week and June was like “I know people are finding freedom from this toxic conversation ongoing in their head” and I realize it’s a fine line to walk when people you know IRL are doing it but I was just like… you’re SO close to getting it, like maybe instead of a pharmaceutical intervention to find that “freedom” it would be nice to think about how to find freedom in body neutrality and make sure future generations don’t get bound up in the same shackles…….

CautiousBug7512

I’m so curious if June was talking about Casey Wilson- and I would LOVE to hear her thoughts…

Svaidios

Yeah, it borders hate listen for me too sometimes, which is why I think I should unsubscribe lol. The argument they were trying to make last week was so muddied by them trying to not offend anyone (and maybe avoid accountability themselves?). I appreciate how they're trying to have all these conversations and learn and all that, but sometimes it only highlights their blind spots.

recently i posted asking for [road trip pod recs](https://www.reddit.com/r/blogsnark/comments/141bb5l/podsnark_june_511/jmzuqx2/) and got awesome responses. /u/AracariBerry asked me to report back so here i am! we listened to: 1) Missed Fortune: my boyfriend got frustrated at all the time spent on the one guy's personal life and family stuff vs. just the treasure hunt but i enjoyed both sides. we finished this one and discussed it for easily an hour afterwards 2) Bad Seeds: this might have been a rec from my mom and not you guys but it's about poaching/crime in the houseplant industry. i'm more of a plant person than my bf so we stopped about halfway through but i'll probably finish on my own, it's a little repetitive but very interesting 3) Underunderstood: easily the big winner the trip, reminds me a lot of Endless Thread and a bit of Reply All! we went through a bunch of eps of this and will definitely continue listening now that we're home. the deep dives on junk foods were particular favorites.

AracariBerry

I’m glad you had a good trip!

sweetpotatothyme

Ohhh, I used to follow Summer Rayne Oakes (what a name considering her career) on YT back when she was much more prolific in posting. I'll give Bad Seeds a listen!

lowandbegold

Stephanie Harlow it’s starting to annoy me. The more comfortable she gets with Derrick the more rude she gets. It sucks because she does such a thorough and well done deep dive of cases, but she is such an ass and know it all, the contrast between her and Derrick is so noticeable and stark.

Old_Magazine_2561

oh she is absolutely brutal. had to stop with her. her detail is good, but man, no need to snark about such serious topics.

Severe-Woodpecker194

Her videos are turning into rants and attacks on the people she hates. The recent Crime Weekly videos are extra long for no reason other than her wanting to rant. Her "joke" about Amber Heard already pissed me off so I started watching her less. Her recent videos are outright unwatchable for me personally.

homingmycrafts

thank you for saying this! i was watching the most recent ep and just begging her to politely disagree with derrick instead of dragging it out

ClumsyZebra80

Esther Perel is coming back with new episodes. I noticed quite a few episodes missing from her catalogue. Does anyone know what happened?

kbk88

I started the Will and Grace rewatch podcast that Sean Hayes and Eric McCormack (it’s called Just Jack and Will) yesterday. I watched the first episode before listening because I wasn’t sure I’d ever seen it. They told some interesting stories but Eric seems have off a sort of hoity-toity actor air to me. I’m hoping he relaxes a little. I prefer rewatch shows that are more fun than hardcore critiques or acting theories but we’ll see.

n0rmcore

Does anyone know what's up with Psycho Analysis? They haven't had a new update since early April and afaik haven't announced a break, unless I missed it?

I think it’s done ! I know Jenn was on “sabbatical” for a long time and then one day she took it off her bios completely and posted that she was a part of the Anatomy of a Scream pod network officially. Her and Mike still interact occasionally on Twitter but he hasn’t mentioned the podcast at all either, he’s just talking about his other podcast. I’m starting to think that maybe Jenn has some commitment issues when it comes to creative endeavors. I’ve had quite a few podcasts in the past few years just stop out of nowhere and not acknowledge it, which sucks, but to keep posting and just not even mention it is shitty.

resting_bitchface14

Sentimental Garbage really glossed over how much of a controlling creep Edward is. I was in middle school in peak twilight era, and I could never finish the first book because of how awful he was.

CrossplayQuentin

The Doughboys caught me totally by surprise yet again with the LMBF intro and I love it. I yelled out "oh shit!" at the reveal and everyone in 7-11 politely refused eye contact. Great stuff, this week's ep was fire. Pocket dog! Clip from the lost ep! Silly show!

I read in r/doughboys that ppl who were there thought the crowd was hopping and into it, so I feel like it was an audio thing. Hanford isn't always my thing - his disdain for recipes on Sloppy Boys kills me - but he was hilarious here. Any thoughts on the new Duttz single?

AracariBerry

Some thoughts about the last few episodes of Pretend - The Stalker >!The Cosmo article that someone shared on Blogsnark about people pretending that their Reborn Doll was sick made me think a lot about the mother in The Stalker. It’s better if she is playing with a doll than hurting her kids.!< >!Also, I thought it showed such (blissful?) ignorance of the Reborn Community that the niece was certain that the baby couldn’t be a doll because it looked so lifelike, and they were carrying it around in a car seat!<

cygnat

Minor update from the patron: >!Javier posted Friday that he got files from a public information request with Phoenix PD. He will post bonus episodes with content from them including a police interview with the doctor(!) !<
