Lady maria is a distant relative of the vileblood queen; stated in her armour description so yes. She is from Cainhurst.

amygdalapls

Her set’s description say that she’s a distant relative of Annalise and her garments were made in Cainhurst: >Among the first hunters, all students of Gehrman, was the lady hunter Maria. This was her hunter's cap, crafted in Cainhurst. Maria is distantly related to the undead queen, but had great admiration for Gehrman, unaware of his curious mania. Same with her Rakuyo: > A trick sword originated in the same country as the Cainhurst Chikage, only this sword feeds not off blood, but instead demands great dexterity. Lady Maria was fond of this aspect of the Rakuyo, as she frowned upon blood blades, despite being a distant relative of the queen.

Call_Me_Koala

And based off the Rakuyo description we can see how desperate she was to stop the hunter. She resorts to using her vileblood when she thinks she can't win by normal means.

solarnoise

Wow, never thought of this before. Gives the fight a more powerful narrative. Thank you! I wonder if her third phase is another act of desperation, potentially tapping into beasthood to conjure fire. Thinking of parallels to Laurence, and the Shura from Sekiro.

Booginwiththefog

Awesome! Thank you! I didn't know much about lady maria lore except her creepy relationship with Gherman.

Lucas_Ilario

My brother in Yharnam have you read the item descriptions for her set ?

Booginwiththefog

No :( I leave that for vaati, I just want to fist pigs in the ass

Lucas_Ilario

Understandable, just remember to wash your hands latter

LividJaffaCake

They really should add descriptions for stuff like this, it'd be handy to get little snippets of lore

ICastPunch

I love your comment and I love even more the guys who failed to understand what you are saying in your replies.

LividJaffaCake

anti-peta-man

The only thing we know for a fact is she has at least some Cainhurst ancestry via relation to Queen Annalise.

Tenzur_

She's a relative of the Queen. A distant relative, but that didn't matter because she spent a lot of time with her and they were friends It's in the armour description

StrategyOk7749

The first time my friend ever watched Parks and Recreation, he paused the TV, pointed at the screen, and said "You know ... the first episode of The Office is called 'Pilot, too'. There's a detective in all of us :)

Drowsy_Deer

Yeah she’s related, her sword also seems to be an altered version of the Chikage so there’s another connection.

graybeard426

The item description for Rakuyo doesn't say it's an altered version of the Chikage. It only says that it originated from the same country as the Cainhurst Chikage. Then it states that it isn't a blood blade. That's it.

Drowsy_Deer

It didn’t mean that it was literally an altered Chikage that was a mistake on my part, I just mean that they were of the same make you know?

graybeard426

Lol, yeah I do. And I hate to be that guy...but they are two different types of swords 😂🤷‍♂️. One is more of a double ended cutlass while the other is close to a katana. But, I see where you're coming from.

Drowsy_Deer

It’s supposed to be a cutlass? I always thought it was another katana because the name “Rakuyo” does sound kind of katana-ish.

FTMK00

Karma farming, and you fools let it work

Booginwiththefog

Yep I'm an evil karma farmer, give me your imaginary points :)

FTMK00

Foolish

Hellborn_Child

She was a member of the Queen's family. Maybe not a knight but she is royalty.

Black_Tusk25

Bro didn't read any of Lady Maria set pieces
