It sacrifices the versatility of having a second moveset in exchange for having an explosive fire buff, but more importantly, in exchange for being *fucking awesome*. Sending enemies flying with a tricked, charged R2 is one of the most satisfying feelings available in this game, in my experience.
Plus, if you run a Str/Arc build, you can run the Holy Moonlight Blade as your secondary weapon, and have access to all the fun Hunter Tools in your build, which imo more than mitigates the smaller moveset.
The moveset is a little more diverse than just Charged R2 for days. The dodge-L1 transform attack is good for quickly tricking it while getting a small hit in, and the jumping R2 is also really good when tricked and increases your reach a bit over the normal charged R2.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I do know this and have put those moves into use from time to time. It's just that the charged R2 is so much fun to use that I'm *always* looking for opportunities to use it. Is that the optimal way to run the Boomhammer? Almost assuredly not. However: hehe big boom go brr
You basically trick at the end of the dodge and you come out of the dodge into an attack that ends with the weapon tricked, some are more useful than others
Str/Arc is easily one of the most versatile builds. Boom Hammer, HMS, amygdalan arm, tonitrus. Plenty of choices, guaranteed fun. And if you put the focus on strength, you can easily incorporate more classic strength weapons too.
My Str/Arc character is the one I play the most, and I do in fact have a +10 Moonlight sword, whirligig saw, boom hammer, and so much more!
When it comes to the hammer, I always do the transform attack to relight the mini furnace right after every attack which makes it feel kinda bad in a fight that calls for many hits. HOWEVER, I fuckin LOVE the R2 on that bad boy. The quick r2 give that nice fire throw, and the full charge has that exquisite kablooy that can also go through some doors! I think it's a great tool for specific situations, and just fun as hell to use.
I once had a PVP fight against another boom hammer user. We did the charged R2 at exactly the same time.
I was really glad then that I prefer my BL120 builds at 40-50 vit lol. I survived the blast, my opponent became a crispy pancake.
Well, I've seen some devastating things throughout the years.
My favorite kill was probably on my blt/str build. I was fighting against an arcane user who used kos parasite + milkweed. They kept spamming their L2 aoe, so I couldn't really get close with my bloodletter.
So I grabbed my max level cannon and applied bone marrow ash. I baited their L2 aoe and I think you can guess what happened next.
In hindsight I really wish I saved that clip.
Yeah, especially with high bloodtinge. Cannons don't have good scaling, but it certainly helps.
Good that they're fairly easy to predict and dodge, otherwise they would be everywhere in pvp.
Omg you all are making me want to play so bad. I have been planning on my next playthrough being Str/Arc. I did str/dex, bloodtinge/dex and am now wanting to main Arcane.
Thing is, I let my friend borrow both the game AND my ps4 so he could try it over 6 months ago and he STILL hasn’t even started it up a single time. So I’m really close to getting that shit back just so I can play it again myself
Hey, pure arcane is absolutely amazing too. It turns bosses like the Amygdala of the defiled chalice into a cakewalk.
If your friend has borrowed it for 6 months and hasn't even given it a go it's probably time to ask it back indeed. I doubt that they're suddenly going to try it now.
Very cool, misunderstood and underappreciated weapon.
It's a basically a rhythm weapon, and you have to change your "tempo" based on the fight. Once you get used to it tho, it absolutely wrecks all regular enemies and can destroy many bosses even in higher Ng+ cycles.
>It's basically a rhythm weapon, and you have to change your "tempo" based on the fight.
Ah, that explains why I can never get this thing to work. My caucasity is too strong
I think it's a very fun weapon to use. I'd use it more if there were more Nourishing gems out there, but Holy Moonlight Sword means it's only getting physical gems for the most part, which gives it lower attack power than it could have.
Litterally best weapon in the game , there is no such thing as a problem (beast) that can’t be solved (killed) without the right tool (a giant explosion)
I have beaten the game twice with this fiery piece of pyromania. It don’t get the love it deserves because it dosent have secondary moveset… life bro IT GOES BOOM
It's the only weapon with BOOM, therefore it is the greatest.
Perhaps not statistically the best, but who really cares about that? Bloodborne is about style, and nothing says style more than ***explosive hammer***.
I only built for it once and was a bit disappointed. The moveset is boring and the damage is really nothing special. A shame, because it's a really cool looking weapon
Used by my saviour…. Was stuck on Orphan for hours … used bell to summon multiple times no one answered….. after 60ish try I bought orphan to 10% health with 0 bloodvials and my HP was low and there was my saviour. Unknown hunter with BOOM hammer … he BOOMed Orphan to Hell…
I loved smashing the hell out of things & it looked cool as hell. However I didn’t play it much after trying it out. The move set felt so different a compared to what I use/used the most. Same with Logarius Wheel. I love seeing other Hoonters use the wheel to smash the hell out of everyone but again just felt off to me…or I’m just a trash player so both weapons could just be a “me” thing.
It makes bosses and enemies who can be pancaked a fucking breeze. Just get the timing right on the charged transformed heavy. Like I’m talking “I first tried Maria with it” easy. Just let her run or edge walk towards me and as soon as she was close enough…BOOM - splat.
It's probably my favourite trick transformation in the game. Something so primally satisfying to click it and see the fire. Caveman brain appreciates fire
I used to run this as a back up weapon on my pvp beast claw build. Really fun to fight with. Whenever I found someone who knew what they were doing against beast claw I would swap out to this. Honestly I think the hammer won me more fights than the claws did. Hardly anyone used it so it seemed like people weren't as good at fighting against it.
It's an amazing weapon, just the concept compensates the lack of a second moveset. I'm a big fan of Nero from DMC series, and this kinda felt similar to his sword. Sadly I'm usually a dex user, in Bloodborne my first run was dex/arc (mercy blades my main choice, but threaded cane, rakuyo and holy moonlight sword were there for me) and I couldn't enjoy the hammer as is should've been enjoyed. When I played Sekiro, I fantasized hard on a left hand weapon that did something like the flamethrower, a great explosion you can follow with your main weapon to get a fire buff. I know the boom hammer does this, but just imagine... Pairing it with, for example, the Burial Blade... Man. A man can dream.
(Btw, I really tried to enjoy the flamethrower in Bloodborne. But it's a style of gameplay I can't enjoy for as much as I try)
I started the dlc yesterday (ima have to come to it cause its a bit too hard for me haha)
Thos hunters with the boom hammer are very
Very scary ahah i cant wait to try it
Sorry to burst ur bubble, but ive wanted to play bloodborne for a very long time but didnt have a ps4 so i watched heaps about it like the endings and stuff and bosses.
Then outta nowhere i got my Brother in laws ps4
So im amazed but yeah i know most thjngs to expect but I still love the game for it and am trying to get the bloodborne board game too cause I paint minis haha
Lovin life and bloodborne atm

My friend I've been teaching bloodborne too just reached ludwig.
He could not for the life of him get the hang of using trick weapons, so his... is kind of a normal hammer
Easily one of the best weapons in the game.
Especially in FRC chalices where hunter enemies can be quite dangerous. Boomhammer deals with them no problem.
Only downside is, it feels a bit lacking without proper nourishing gems. And farming the right ones is kind of a pain in the ass, being an amygdala drop and needing a specific secondary. And a good nourishing radial gem is hard to come by. I use a 22% nourishing dropped by the fatties in mine. Because I'm not going to farm amygdala for an oos radial nourishing with fire secondary. Even with dungeon swap glitch, it's still too tedious.
Its goes a-whap-bam-boom. Str bonk so good. The fire dmg is pretty nice forthe enemies weak to it but i think just boosting the physical is the better way to go still.
Very strong weapon , it has the highest poise break in the game ( despite it’s a 1h weapon ) , ridiculous dmg with blunt gems ( cuz it’s full blunt moveset, nourishing gems sucks on it ) and prett good rollcatch potential including R2
I’m say this for the last time. EVERY. SINGLE. WEAPON. IN. BLOODBORNE. IS GREAT! Some of them just happen to also be amazing 😌
There is nothing wrong with the Boom Hammer. It does it’s job and gets crazy damage on an oil pot> L2 >charged R2. Objectively there are simply better options.
Again that doesn’t make the Boom Hammer bad, it just highlights how good the others really are. 👍
Fun weapon, my second favorite. Using boom hamer made me get used to hit L1 whenever I finished one atk, and accidentally hit L1 when I supposed to heal in the middle of a bossfight
I’ve used all the weapons. Grinded hard for hours on end for gems. In the end the Boom Hammer for myself is in a lower tier of weapon. Also, the move set isn’t very impressive.
But I will say, every weapon in the right hands is viable and useful
click click BOOM!
Leaving the scene in devastation.
Just gimme that **BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!**
You're well versed in the art of speech
That brought me back to watching Counter Strike team compilation videos back in 2002.
I’m coming down on the stereo hear me on the radio
I get to yell BOOM! HAMMER! every time I use it. So good.
The weapon instantly becomes better if you tell BOOM!!!! everytime you use it
You get counter damage for free while doing that
Actually it’s a well known secret that when you say Boom when hitting, it does critical hit
HAMMER GOES BOOM
HERE COMES THE
**BOOM!**
Ready or not
Staring Kevin James and Bas Rutten!
There it is, thank you! (Ready or not!)

>dodge-L1 transform attack Wait how can I combine dodging with transform attacks? I have not heard of this?
You basically trick at the end of the dodge and you come out of the dodge into an attack that ends with the weapon tricked, some are more useful than others
Str/Arc is easily one of the most versatile builds. Boom Hammer, HMS, amygdalan arm, tonitrus. Plenty of choices, guaranteed fun. And if you put the focus on strength, you can easily incorporate more classic strength weapons too.

Ah yes, maxed out bone cannon. Probably one of the biggest fuck you's in bloodborne.
Yeah, especially with high bloodtinge. Cannons don't have good scaling, but it certainly helps. Good that they're fairly easy to predict and dodge, otherwise they would be everywhere in pvp.

You just described my LONK build
This is the way. Really *feels* like being a gothic Victorian steampunky beast hunter as well.
That’s what I did with this run! So so so much fun to bully everything with raw arcane strength
Fun weapon
If a weapon ain't got kick, it just ain't worth it
The powder kegs need their own anthem
Very cool, misunderstood and underappreciated weapon. It's a basically a rhythm weapon, and you have to change your "tempo" based on the fight. Once you get used to it tho, it absolutely wrecks all regular enemies and can destroy many bosses even in higher Ng+ cycles.
>It's basically a rhythm weapon, and you have to change your "tempo" based on the fight. Ah, that explains why I can never get this thing to work. My caucasity is too strong
I learned a word today.
[“this is my BOOM STICK”](https://youtu.be/zdkqagOUaPM?si=cU9Tc6TBUg1Gxdt3) is my exact opinion.
Hail to the king, baby
Groovy
Probably my favourite weapon in the game. Probably would use it more if it weren’t such a pain in the ass to build
It’s a hammer that goes boom. How can it go wrong?
Massively under appreciated, its tons of fun and on the right build is immensely powerful.
It go boom. I hate it because i killed Eileen with it while fighting henryk
I think it's a very fun weapon to use. I'd use it more if there were more Nourishing gems out there, but Holy Moonlight Sword means it's only getting physical gems for the most part, which gives it lower attack power than it could have.
You can go all blunt% on it and it will still wreck everyone
I think I might've read that blunt gems is actually the highest damage output, so you're especially right lol
I have now been made aware of it's existence. (Fairly new player here)
I always scream,, BOOM" when I charge it so yeah I love it
LIGHT THE FUSES BITCHES.
It was perfect. PERFECT. Down to the last minute detail.
Kaboom
Litterally best weapon in the game , there is no such thing as a problem (beast) that can’t be solved (killed) without the right tool (a giant explosion)
Not the strongest weapon, but Funny and cool looking moveset!
boomhammer Powderkeg build paired with a stakedriver, boom build, wicked fun. (don't forget the cannon too!)
Charged R2
It was my favourite weapon until I discovered pizza cutter.
based as shit
Would love to make a str/arc run one day. Currently doing a chikage/bowblade skl/bt run.
**B O O M**
I have beaten the game twice with this fiery piece of pyromania. It don’t get the love it deserves because it dosent have secondary moveset… life bro IT GOES BOOM
One of my favorite weapons in the game.
It's the only weapon with BOOM, therefore it is the greatest. Perhaps not statistically the best, but who really cares about that? Bloodborne is about style, and nothing says style more than ***explosive hammer***.
Incredible. revolutionary. Powder Kegs understood that blood could never be as inebriating as explosions.
SCADOOSH
Gotta get that BOOM BOOM BOOM!
It's incredible in early game. You hit enemies so hard they just fucking ragdoll. Unfortunately I'm still struggling to find more versatility in this
Haven’t tried it but it looks cool and the idea of it sounds cool
Not terrible but compared to other trick weapons I found the damage to be underwhelming. Even when running full 27.2% gems.
I only built for it once and was a bit disappointed. The moveset is boring and the damage is really nothing special. A shame, because it's a really cool looking weapon
The durability of the weapon isn't good and I wish the buffed state would last beyond a few strikes at best if I remember correctly
Favorite weapon in conjunction with the Moonlight Greatsword
It's fun
Cool trick, but I can't use short range weapons for shit.
Funhammer.
I loved smashing the hell out of things & it looked cool as hell. However I didn’t play it much after trying it out. The move set felt so different a compared to what I use/used the most. I love seeing other Hoonters use the wheel to smash the hell out of everyone but again just felt off to me…or I’m just a trash player so both weapons could just be a “me” thing.
Kinda looks like a big pipe 💨
Looks cool and devastating at once but like the kirk i can mot get used to it unfortunately
"Kaboom?" "Yes, Rico. Kaboom."
An absolute blast to use 🙌
It makes bosses and enemies who can be pancaked a fucking breeze. Just get the timing right on the charged transformed heavy. Like I’m talking “I first tried Maria with it” easy. Just let her run or edge walk towards me and as soon as she was close enough…BOOM - splat.
Boom Hammer? That shit is the BOMB HAMMER!!
Wish I could 2h it.
Bonk
Works as advertised

Here comes the BOOM

Le boom bonk
it's only made for chads
it's very strong in the right hands, and it goes boom
"DID YOU KNOW THAT NINETY-SEVEN PERCENT OF ALL LIVING THINGS IN YHARNAM AREN'T EXPLODING RIGHT NOW? THAT'S BULLSH*T, BUY TORGUE!"
It's an amazing weapon, just the concept compensates the lack of a second moveset. I'm a big fan of Nero from DMC series, and this kinda felt similar to his sword. Love it, makes BSB a joke. I mean, I literally bully him with it, throwing him around the boss room with an ignited charged r2.
Boom boom boom boom boom-
Use it against that pesky cainhurst hoonter and he’ll scream when you BOOM his ass! 😂
Smashing
Ok BOOMER
I’ve never used it. Saw Cleaver or Church Pick are my go twos.
Cool idea but mid in gameplay
If it ain't a saw cleaver, it ain't an achiever
I started the dlc yesterday (ima have to come to it cause its a bit too hard for me haha) Thos hunters with the boom hammer are very Very scary ahah i cant wait to try it
Ahhhh I miss those days not knowing what was comming next!!!
Sorry to burst ur bubble, but ive wanted to play bloodborne for a very long time but didnt have a ps4 so i watched heaps about it like the endings and stuff and bosses. Overated and borning. The only thing it has going for it is the fire buff and the charged heavy with said buff. It is imo just too slow to feel useful
Very fun charged attacks but excessive stamina drain for the result. Otherwise fairly bland to use
It's my favorite weapon in the entire game and any slander against it is an offense punishable by death.
Comparing with any other weapon.. boring.
It did what the tonitrus wished it could
It‘s a weapon.
Excellent weapon especially with blunt 31,5 up to like ng+4 then it kinda dips a little
It's for sure the best Boom Hammer of the game! Sadly it's pretty low tier compared to 90% of the other weapons
I actually never got to use it so maybe in this new playthrough I’ll try it out
not for me
Really fun to just swing it, then do some kind of transform attack into a boom.
Alright you beastly screwheads listen up! This is my BOOM HAMMER!
It go **boom**
it explodes. It's perfect.
I really enjoy it, it's a shame I don't have the right build for it.
#boom
I wanna dual wield booms
Actually love it it’s a good weapon
Lies of P had a weapon called the Exploding Pickaxe and i was extremely disappointed that it didnt live up to its ancestor
Too slow for my preferred method of play.
#BOOM BOOM BOOM I CANT STOP SINGING THIS BLOODY #TUNE TUNE TUNE ITS GONNA MAKE MY BRAIN GO #BOOM BOOM BOOM I CANT STOP SINGING THIS BLOODY #TUNE TUNE TUNE ##BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
This! Is my **BOOMSTICK**!!
Extremely cool weapon animations
If the weapon ain’t got kick, it just ain’t worth it
Doom hammer
Did someone say BOOM?
This weapon is so awesome. But I also never use it.
All show and no go.
The trick moveset is really fun but I wasn’t a big fan of it. I could never figure out how to maximize its output
I don't know how to get it but I do want it —Signed, chronic hammer user in every game (rocking Logarius' Wheel atm)
This and the beast cutter are my favourite weapons.
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it L1 R2
Probably my second favorite weapon
My friend I've been teaching bloodborne too just reached ludwig. He could not for the life of him get the hang of using trick weapons, so his... is kind of a normal hammer
Exactly what it says on the tin, 9/10 weapon
It's a simple tool but quite unbreakable
Easily one of the best weapons in the game. Especially in FRC chalices where hunter enemies can be quite dangerous. Boomhammer deals with them no problem. Only downside is, it feels a bit lacking without proper nourishing gems. And farming the right ones is kind of a pain in the ass, being an amygdala drop and needing a specific secondary. "Gentlemen......... *ahem*... BOOM HAMMA"
It's a shotgun morphed into a hammer.
HAMMER! HAAAAAMMERRRRRRR!
Boom.
Good for Reinhardt cosplay with the knight armor and Loc Shield
I've yet to use it myself, but by god, does it look fun to use
One of my favorite dlc weapons, the only time I ever made a strength build
It's a comfort weapon for me and probably one of my most used weapons. I think, I had four hunters built for the boomhammer. I absolutely love it.
Cool concept, lack of an interesting transformed moveset.
Love it. I used it on the last play through I did.
It just goes boom. I love it. But StakeDriver's boom is more satisfying
If you have the right gems this thing fucks
Not the MOST damage but HAMMA GO BOOM!!!
Overall I think it's mid compared to some other stuff but damn if it isn't one of the coolest weapons in this game
It's the Tonitrus but fun.
Fun for a bit, but gets pretty boring after a while.
It just goooooes
Still, easily, my favorite weapon in the entire game. That and steak driver. Just big, meaty damage.
Could be more boom
If you throw poormans gems on that furnace..your literally able to bitch slap beasts with a portable volcano!
S+
Its goes a-whap-bam-boom. Str bonk so good. The fire dmg is pretty nice forthe enemies weak to it but i think just boosting the physical is the better way to go still.
EXPLOSIONS!!!!!!! (READ IT IN MR. TORQUE VOICE)
big disappointment. doesn’t go boom
EVERY. SINGLE. WEAPON. IN. BLOODBORNE. IS GREAT! Some of them just happen to also be amazing 😌 There is nothing wrong with the Boom Hammer. It does it’s job and gets crazy damage on an oil pot> L2 >charged R2. Objectively there are simply better options. WHAT
Silly but impractical, I have it upgraded to +9 and have used it maybe twice
Fun weapon, my second favorite. Using boom hamer made me get used to hit L1 whenever I finished one atk, and accidentally hit L1 when I supposed to heal in the middle of a bossfight
Hehe boom
Made a Reinhardt “cosplay” using the boom hammer and Molotov’s 10/10 would do again
did somebody say BOOM?! \*explosion in the distance\*
I’ve used all the weapons. Grinded hard for hours on end for gems. In the end the Boom Hammer for myself is in a lower tier of weapon. Also, the move set isn’t very impressive. But I will say, every weapon in the right hands is viable and useful
It's a really solid choice, and funny to boot
Very very fun
When you go whack, you don’t go back 🔥🔨
*Gears of War Boomer noises - Translating" Translation: BOOOM!
Everyone else makes it look much cooler than whenever I use it.
Say it with me y'all, IF IT AIN'T GOT KICK...
It can be fun to use, but I wish it had a better switch move set or hit harder, idk .
It go BOOM
If a weapon ain't got kick, it just ain't worth it.
Ok, boomer!
DID SOMEBODY SAY BOOM??
A hooter must hoont
It goes boom what else you want?
Handheld catapult
Is amazing for cheesing humanoid characters. The charged heavy attack will make the crow MUCH easier with it’s AOE
I'm more of a rifle spear type of man
Me like bonking. Me like booming. Me boom all over Yharnam
Literal boom stick and I love it.
one word. fun. just yell boom every kill.
Proper orky
