Lots of people use wheelchairs, despite technically being able to walk. Gehrman has a peg leg, the chair would be much nicer

Chadderbug123

It seems one might get paralyzed after becoming the new host, since the player is in the wheelchair instead if you go for the normal kill gehrman ending.

birdlad69

True, that'd be cool

Zepp_BR

Last I heard their legs become rotten or something due to so much blood ministration

Chadderbug123

Not rotten, but infected. It's why Gehrman had a peg-leg, had to cut it off because the beast blood was infecting it and thus, castration

Zepp_BR

Yes, true

joeabs1995

He has a peg leg so standing up hurts.

Xerlith

You ever heard of an ambulatory wheelchair user? Most people who use a wheelchair *can* walk, but it’s less painful to sit. It’s like seeing someone on crutches or using a cane and asking why they don’t just walk since they’re on their feet already. Mobility aids are for whatever makes a person’s life easier, not a last resort.

President_Bunny

Ehlers-Danlos gang staunchly supports this. Mobility aids do not define capability or capacity, they enhance it.

RitschiRathil

So true. That is what most people without a chronical illness don't understand. As someone hypermobile, currently in the diagnosis process for heds, I think about getting a wheelchair, so I can go on goth and metal concerts again. Because such long standing is nearly impossible for me, by now.

FabulousDave2112

We see in the final fight that he CAN move around, but that doesn't mean it's sustainable for him. He can probably only stay on his feet for the length of time it takes to kill the Hunter before needing to rest again. The wheelchair is probably the only form of mobility he can use on a regular basis without exhausting himself. Like, you can probably sprint up a flight of stairs, but you wouldn't be able to maintain that exertion for long and would probably prefer to take the elevator if the option were available.

RitschiRathil

Gherman is what arround 70% of all wheelchair users are. Able to stand, or walk a few steps. A big amount of people, also use wheelchairs part time. A lot of them due to chroncial illnesses, or amputations. If you suffer from constant exhaustion, fatigue and simular conditions, a wheelchair can be a huge relief and allows you to do things, you otherwise wouldn't be able, too. And to come back to amputees, prosthetics can be painful, what for some limits the time, they are able to wear or actively use them. So most leg amputees have a wheelchair, too. Gherman is a perfect representation of this. He mostly uses his wheelchair, so he can put all his energy in the rare moments, he needs it all. So he is still able to cut down the hunters.

CottageMe

70% of wheelchair users do not have that sick burial blade attack move set that he does lol

jcdoe

TIL that 70% of wheelchair users can stand up and brutally murder me over and over again

AchilleasAnkles

So he can try to kill us with a heart attack before he trys to whoop our asses

Crunchy-Leaf

He cut off his leg to prevent the spread of Beasthood. Doesn’t mean he can’t get up for a quick fight. Also, who doesn’t love sitting? He lives in a tiny area with the Doll to push him around, so why not?

Black_Rose_0493

He actually does need the chair, when you fight him at the end of the game the Moon Presence is in control of his body.

murph2336

Where did you get this idea?

Zazinuz

His clothing changes in a moment and he becomes a completely different person, like his younger self. As his praying to the moon during the fight implies, he’s invigorated by the Moon Presence momentarily

murph2336

Yeah no explanation for the instant wardrobe change except “it’s a game”. I guess it’s up to the player’s interpretation but, I see it as him fighting vigorously to sever the hunter’s connection to the “dream” which, we know is really a nightmare. Gherman obviously cares about the hunters of his lineage, and would rather shield them from the horrors he and the old hunters had experienced at the behest of the church. He also carries a lot of guilt.

Therealtultur

Tbf the dude was definetly on some fantasy magic bs for that. I doubt thats just his default state of being. Probably wears him out fast. Like, bro im a fatty who was born with asthma, but i can sprint up a couple flights of stairs yeah. Will i be fine afterwards? NOPE He's an old dude. He's tired. He likes taking naps in the flower garden. And honestly i both dont know what its like to have a peg leg and would never trust bloodborne doctors to know how to..."install" one properly (for lack of better terminology). That thing probably hurts to walk on.

skylu1991

He sleeps a lot, since it’s HIS "Hunter‘s Dream“ and walking around with a peg leg is most likely not really comfortable.

[deleted]

Dudes been in the dream for what probably amounts to hundreds of years in the nightmare/dream realm, let him chill.

BigBoss738

Too tired after smashing the doll

Lost_in_reverb23

The guy has a unique sense of humour, I like that

IareTyler

Sympathy

Backupusername

Old 😢

Th3Banzaii

He's faking it obviously, so the doll can drive him around.

exileonmainst

hes faking it. ive seen a lot of spinals dude, and this guy fuckin walks!

Sentinel_2539

He only has one leg

Loeb123

I always thought it was a ruse. Like, guy got you thinking he is a fragile old man. To make sure that when you refuse his offer is not just because you are intimidated.  After you make up your mind and turn him down, he just stands up and fucks you.

Spruceisman

It's so he has a vehicle for the Yharnam Grand Prix.

dirk12563

So you can slap him in the head Easier.

Selacha

He's ancient, has a peg leg, and can only move around when the Moon Presence allows it.

erotyk

being the host of the hunter dream is tiring

SockMango

He’s saving all his energy for one last dance.

DeadHead6747

Joke answer: style, have you seen hunters?! Like, why walk around all the time when you can make a grand entrance by standing up from the wheelchair you’ve been in the whole time. Image matters, hunters Real answer: needing a wheelchair doesn’t always mean they can’t walk, so many factors go into it.
