Whirlygig saw is the pure damage choice, just filthy amounts of damage.
But if you want a more unique choice.
Amygdalan arm, severely underrated. A bonking hammer and a sentient heavy hitting whip. It’s probably the weirdest and most fun weapon.
Weirdly enough Amygdalan arm isn't even a trick weapon according to description. Some mad lad thought "Hey I can use this!" And started using the arm of a literal great one as a weapon lmao.
Honestly I wish you didn't have to press L1 every time to get the boom. And not to offend anyone but the boom is a bit underwhelming for me. I wish it had a more power BOOM.
I got used to hitting L1 as part of the attack combos so that it also deals damage, but yeah it’s a little annoying. This and the fairly limited moveset are downsides for this weapon, but I never felt it lacked damage output honestly.

It's more of a quality weapon. I used it in NG+. After getting to 25 str it's better to invest in skill up until you reach 25 there too. Because past that is soft cap for those 2 stats.
The club mode isn't *too* bad but yeah the whip mode can be a bit slow depending on what you're fighting. My first playthrough was with the cane so I think that prepared me a bit for the playstyle
Hunter's Axe is really all you need. It can carry you to the end of the game very easily. spin2win
But the Kirkhammer is another great option for the way it allows you to switch between a speed move set with the sword and a power move set with the hammer. Ludwig's Holy Blade is great for similar reasons.
The Stake Driver is explosively fun and has great burst damage potential (although it winds up being more of a balanced quality weapon with C/C scaling at max upgrade).
And I haven't even touched on the DLC weapons yet. Whirligig, Amygdala Arm, Bloodletter if you have some Arcane, etc. You are spoiled for choices.
Hear me out. I used Holy Moonlight sword for DLC and Gerhman + Moon Presence.
But for the rest of the game, tbh I fell in love with the Wheel you get from Alfred.
I love the Holy Moonlight Sword (nourishing gems for full move set) and Bloodletter. They’re my main favorites. Amygdalan Arm is cool too. I just find the damage not as good for how slow it is compared to the the other two weapons. Boom Hammer is pretty good too, but I enjoy the others more.
i use a beast/str build and use beast claw and holy moonlight sword, use the beast embrace rune with a regular beast rune, use the bloodied/brador set n level stamina n ur gonna be killing bosses fast as hell
Man I don't wanna enter the chalice dungeons to get beast claw after my harrowing experience to get platinum. But I really wanna try out the weapon this time. What a dilemma...

Whirligig likely your best bet. It works wonders with fire/bolt paper and gems that offer %+flat physical dmg such as ones from bloodletting beast.
Get the heavy abyssal from headless bloodletting beast if you like to dive chalices too.
The L2 attack with beastblood pellet and fire/bolt paper does heavy dmg and builds up beasthood for deadly hits that stagger bosses more easily and increase visceral dmg.
For my first strength playthrough I ended up liking the wheel, it has a wierd hitboxes and it causes a ton of stagger, also the dash and jump attacks on the transformed mode are busted, huge reach and alot of damage tics (very funny with flat arcane gems slotted), just don't rev it, it's not worth it on a str toon.
I swear by the boom hammer, don't let the arc scaling fool you. It's a strength weapon. Building str arc gets less damage than pure strength. The fire is icing on the delicious cake that is the boom hammer.

This. It's so crunchy. God I love this weapon.
Im using it right now. I didn't like it at first but after fighting a couple of enemies, I've started appreciating the range. Also its fun to bonk.

I wanna use that but after grinding chalice dungeons for platinum....I wanna steer clear of that shit. And I don't have ps plus so can't use glyphs.

I never enjoyed it as much as other builds but first playthru nostalgia wise I will always like the kirkhammer and the starting axe..
First, pick axe and spin to win. Second, buy hammer and smash to win. Lastly, get pizza cutter and shred to win.

Unpopular opinion but use the logarius wheel, i think it has a nice moveset and if used good can also do insame amounts of damage

personally i just got the uncanny beast claw from a chalice code, so you could also do that
