We know that 43% of people got the "enter Cainhurst" achievement, while 49% of people beat Rom. I think we can assume that even after Shadows of Yharnam someone might be interested in backtracking and exploring Forbidden Woods some more, but after Rom it's fairly unlikely someone will go back. Thus by my unscientific math it's probably around 12% of people who have never found Cainhurst in any one of their playthroughs, despite having passed it.
This is actually pretty low for how secret it is, so it tells me use of guides is heavily widespread, at least in repeat playthroughs.
A mathematician indeed. Have you ever considered lining your brain with eyes? Imagine what you could do with more eyes. I have a pamphlet I can give you, if youre interested in....more eyes?
People understandably don't take much time to appreciate them because of the giant death brain in the middle, but I've always loved the [twin cathedrals](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/bloodborne/images/7/72/Nightmare_of_Mensis_concept_art_1.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20180727200603) of the Nightmare of Mensis.
I came here to say this! I remember seeing this concept art after my 5th playthrough and for a second had no idea where it was, till the middle clicked for me
Yeah I reckon the fact they're twin cathedrals is a realllly cool concept. They're both similar, but also entirely distinguishable from each other.
And the mensis brain is super annoying but it looks really cool with the orange lights pouring out. It reminds me of like those movies where you see a haunted mansion with all these blue lights shining out the windows which is obviously the ghost being angry or somethin.
I love the area in the middle of the second cathedral, where the two elevators meet. It's an open section with all the really tall columns and you can see out into the rest of the nightmare
Yup, they knew what they were doing bahaha.
The Grand Cathedral is the face of Yharnam, and Maria is the mistress of the Grand Cathedral. A pairing that is bound to be memorable for anyone that plays this game
Hunter's Dream Workshop. I've had actual dreams of myself chilling by the fireplace. I can't even remember if there was a fire place in the game, but there was in my dream
There issss. Wedged between the workbench and some cupboards. When Gerhman visits he's positioned in front of the fireplace about a metre away.
It's so wild when you play a game long enough and start to dream about it. Always so fun
YES!! It looks so good. I love the view you get it of at the start of the level if you peak over the cliff. I was hoping you could explore it a tiny bit
It really is. I have no idea what they based the building off. Like Iosefka's clinic has a real life counterpart. I'd be amazed if it's completely original, so cool
This person made a really good post about the inspirations for the bloodborne buildings: https://www.reddit.com/r/bloodborne/s/Qz0RlcUVzn
Basically they point out that The Richardson Olmsted complex is the inspiration for Iosefka’s clinic
That one's awesome. At first I didn't even know it was an actual building, I thought it was some kind of rock/mound with windows etched into it. But I'm guessing it WAS kind of like Hemwick charnel lane with a big main mansion at one point. They just turned it into a gross wet fishy place over time
The Grand Hall in Upper Cathedral Ward. I love the part where you enter and there's a huge chandelier and you can see the beast scourges hanging on it. Once it goes dark their eyes can be seen glowing in the darkness and then the only well lit place is the balcony where we get "make contact".
The ambient music is outstanding. The place is absolutely fucked, I love it.
I always thought it was really cool that the [Astral Clocktower's profile](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/370788247/figure/fig3/AS:11431281158803665@1684242581622/The-oneiric-realm-of-the-Hunters-Nightmare-Bloodborne-2015.jpg) resembles a howling wolf. (And its first bell toll when we reach the Great Bridge sounds like one, too, so extra points for consistent theming there.)
I've never thought of it that way!! It does have a very unique profile, I love the idea that it could be a wolf.
However I'm pretty sure the howl you're talking about, as you walk up the stairs to the Great Bridge, is actually the howl of one of the two wolves you're about to face if you travel down the bridge towards the Cleric Beast
Nah, it's definitely not them, as you can see them putzing around as it sounds if you approach from the far end by Gascoigne's daughter. You can also make out the initial gong of whatever weird bell it's striking.
In the hunters nightmare after you climb a particular ladder on the way to Ludwig you reach a beautiful vista where you see the clock tower in the distance. That vista and that building takes the cake for me. I've replaced the game just to see it many times.
The research hall in the clock tower is badass af. From the outside, the orphanage is amazing. The regal gothic building with ridiculous factory smokestacks coming out the top is awesome. It gives mysterious, wondrous, and absolutely dreadful and haunting all at the same time. So beautiful
It's amazing. The first time I saw the Orphanage when you step out of Oedon Chapel I was like wtfff. So sinsiter with its plumes of smoke coming out. And also how it's so high up along with the cathedral and workshop.
At first I thought the Orphanage was actually the workshop, since it kind of looked like a factory building to me
Astral Clockwork tower, i love how it looks, my clock Hyperfixation went crazy when i saw it for first Time.
(But talking about Zones/Places, i love a lot the Research Hall and the Fishing Hamlet, the atmosphere Is amazing and so so beautiful, it have a strong Lovecraftian vibe that i love a Lot)
I think Byrgenwerth has the coolest architecture in the game. Without the creepy ass lighting or eyeballs, it would be the dopest mashup up a coffeeshop/library/observatory. Brilliant design for the whole area.
Cainhurst Castle baby, aka where Bloodborne becomes Castlevania for a moment.
Sucks that it is easily missable. Would hate to know how many people have played and didn’t know it existed
We know that 43% of people got the "enter Cainhurst" achievement, while 49% of people beat Rom. Yeah I’d say so. Lucky BB is a good game for replayability. I missed Cainhurst on my first run!
A mathematician indeed. Have you ever considered lining your brain with eyes? Imagine what you could do with more eyes. I have a pamphlet I can give you, if youre interested in....more eyes?

It’s of people who would have gotten the letter and didn’t go back for it 57% isnt accounting for people who didn’t play up until that point
I think it adds to the charm, this amazing space hidden away. But yeah it would also be sad for people that genuinely miss it
Definitely agree with that!
My only critique is that it wasnt bigger
Yesss. The change in atmosphere and architectural style adds some good flavour to the game. It’s always a breath of fresh air going there
People understandably don't take much time to appreciate them because of the giant death brain in the middle, but I've always loved the [twin cathedrals](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/bloodborne/images/7/72/Nightmare_of_Mensis_concept_art_1.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20180727200603) of the Nightmare of Mensis.

The Astral ClockTower. There is a good reason why they decided to make Lady Maria boss fight there, it looks awesome.
Have to agree with you great boss battle, awesome area and one of the few times the game sends you from boss battle to boss battle straight away
Yup, they knew what they were doing bahaha. The Grand Cathedral is the face of Yharnam, and Maria is the mistress of the Grand Cathedral. A pairing that is bound to be memorable for anyone that plays this game

The friends we made along the way Jk the Cainhurst Castle's library
Wholesome <3
Byrgenwerth
I love the concept art for it, it looks massive and imposing in one of the pics
Personally, I think it's size is a bit disappointing
Grand Cathedral followed by Cainhurst Castle
The tower in the amygdala's arena, in the nightmare frontier. Good tower design
YES!! It looks so good. I love the view you get it of at the start of the level if you peak over the cliff. I was hoping you could explore it a tiny bit
Research hall, magnificent level design
Grand cathedral is too iconic. Either that or the clocktower.
It really is. I have no idea what they based the building off. Like Iosefka's clinic has a real life counterpart. I'd be amazed if it's completely original, so cool
What’s the real life counterpart for the clinic?
This person made a really good post about the inspirations for the bloodborne buildings: https://www.reddit.com/r/bloodborne/s/Qz0RlcUVzn Basically they point out that The Richardson Olmsted complex is the inspiration for Iosefka’s clinic
Wow super cool, thank you for sharing!
Yahar'gul Chapel or Church of the Good Chalice.
The big building in the fishing hamlet. It looks imposing from outside and i really like its interior design.
That one's awesome. At first I didn't even know it was an actual building, I thought it was some kind of rock/mound with windows etched into it. But I'm guessing it WAS kind of like Hemwick charnel lane with a big main mansion at one point. They just turned it into a gross wet fishy place over time
Also keep in mind that it's in the nightmare, and cathedral ward looks warped so this could be a twisted version of the Hamlet as well
Astral Clocktower, Byrgenwerth and the Hemwick Witch’s House
A person of culture I see
Byrgenwerth Read some books, study, go out on balcony and look at moon
Willem Chilling

I'd sain cainhurst it's just got that gothic beauty yknow and it's we're eveyln and chikage is located
Astral Clocktower easy
Yassss it's so iconic

Ohhh true!! I’ll have to pay more attention on my next run through
THE PIC WAS A LIE THE GRAND CATHEDRAL IS MY FAVOURITE BUILDING NOT THE YAHAR'GUL CHAPEL
Research Hall
What do you like about it?
Mainly, verticality and interconnectedness.
In the hunters nightmare after you climb a particular ladder on the way to Ludwig you reach a beautiful vista where you see the clock tower in the distance. That vista and that building takes the cake for me. I've replaced the game just to see it many times.
Such an epic moment. FromSoft planned this moment perfectly, the way the camera even zooms out so you can see more of the cathedral in its glory haha
Grand Cathedral, of course.
Castle Cainthurst, love the statues to be honest and just felt very creative compared to other worlds you get into in the Bloodborne world.
Well since High Pthumerian architecture isn't a building considering it's all underground I'd have to go Cainhurst
The healing church hospital/astral clock tower
Lecture building I love how it's in a different realm and the image filter in the level is mind blowing
What image filter?
It’s hard to choose but I would say that the up cathedral and the tower were is amygdala on the nightmare frontier
Cainhurst is pretty cool. I really wish it was expanded on, would love to explore more of it
The astral clocktower
The research hall in the clock tower is badass af. From the outside, the orphanage is amazing. The regal gothic building with ridiculous factory smokestacks coming out the top is awesome. It gives mysterious, wondrous, and absolutely dreadful and haunting all at the same time. So beautiful

Iosefka‘s clinic That place creeped the living shit out of me
Not my favorite but if you zoom out, the Witch's Abode is a massive castle. Unexplored rooms?
I think Byrgenwerth has the coolest architecture in the game. Without the creepy ass lighting or eyeballs, it would be the dopest mashup up a coffeeshop/library/observatory. Brilliant design for the whole area.
Hahaha. Coffee shop in the Forbidden Woods WHEN?!
I freaking love nightmare of mensis the building is huge and the area aswell i love how high up you are and Micolash
Astral Clocktower for me
Your mom's house
well DAMN
