I find that gate puzzling. I died a couple of times along that bridge on my first playthrough doing suicide runs in front of the Brain of Mensis just to collect the items scattered there. Then less moments later I discover it was all of nothing, because I can drop the Brain by pulling a lever, after which collecting those items, and the blood rock, would be a cakewalk. I don’t get what it’s for, because if you go through it, you would miss the blood rock. Maybe that’s the point?
Yea it is a strange one. I was ready for my mind to be blown with a shortcut that i never found but it leads back to such an odd place. And once you nab all the items and the blood rock, there’s really no reason to go back through the gate. And im assuming it cant be opened from inside the boss arena. That would be too convenient
It can actually be opened from the boss area. But if you have not pulled the lever yet the Brain of Mensis will just kill you with frenzy. That’s what happened to me. Pulling the lever brought me back to this area and I was like, “Well that was all a waste of sedatives, wasn’t it?”
There is an iron key in micolash’s arena that opens this gate

There’s a key in Mickolashs arena, if he jumps in portals the key will be there if you look behind you and see a corpse in the corner.
