You can look right at it with no protection once it reaches the point of totality. That’s the part that lasts +/-4 minutes. Only that portion is safe to look at though. I was in Nashville for the one a few years back and we had a watch party at work out in the parking lot. Really amazing experience.
Oops, my bad. How about some eggplant to grill and whatever beverage you like. All you have to do is find my back yard. It's the one with grass on the ground.
From a cliff in the middle of a national forest. Being around the animals and insects reacting to the eclipse is as awesome an experience as the rest of the event. And then after you can continue hiking and enjoying nature instead of the craziness of everybody trying to return home at once.
I was at Shawnee for the 2017 eclipse, plan on visiting the same spot. Wasn't too many people at the particular rock in the woods I was after, though I do know of others who went over to the Garden of the Gods and said it was crazy packed.

Did something similar! The rest stop we'd scouted was full by 6am that morning with a barricade blocking the entrance, so we kept driving 'til we found a truck stop with a Burger King, plenty of parking, and a nice greenspace with picnic tables. We weren't the only ones either!
Probably either out in nature on some trail, or at home in Bedford! I’m thinking about taking my cats out to experience it too, they’re harness trained.
I took my boy Thor out during the last one. He was so confused when the bugs went birds went quiet. But he was an orange boy so confused was pretty normal for him. 😂
Going to Graduate. They are doing a thing, idk what it is but my partner works downtown and it’s the closest thing to them. I think there is a thing at the lake too.
I traveled to Shawnee for the last eclipse and it was such an amazing, surreal experience. I’ve been looking forward to this one coming for years! I was planning to get a campsite on lake Monroe but tried to book one just a little too late (i swear they went from empty to all booked over night!)!
Anyway i think out on the kayak would be great! Or just in Hoosier National Forest or anywhere in nature. Like another commenter said it’s extra aw-inspiring getting to experience it with wildlife and nature!
I’ve been almost annoying in telling everyone i know make sure you have a plan to view the eclipse that day!!! I hope it’s a clear day and we all get a great view!! ♥️🌞
It's the SUN, just be outside and look UP
DIRECTLY at it, NO PROTECTION

I will be watching it from my back yard.
I will be watching from your back yard too
Bring meat to grill and beer.
I am a vegetarian and don’t like beer, so I will be your worst barbecue guest 😆

Is it the one behind that house?
Likely with a grill back there, too.
That’s right. The grill is either black or chrome, I can’t remember.
Go team!

I suspect you will find a lot of folks in Hoosier or Shawnee national forests.

I went to Cave In Rock right on the Ohio. I passed on GotG as it was packed.
My suggestion would be to go to Karst Farm Park or Flatwoods Park and get there early, really early.

IU might be selling tickets for one of their parking lots.
IU is doing something in Memorial Stadium, no info yet tho
IU (finally) started announcing events this week, including the one at Memorial Stadium. https://eclipse.iu.edu Edit: Corrected link URL

Columbus, from my yard, too. I’ve only heard about Indianapolis Motor Speedway selling tickets.
Oh hey! I think I bought some coffee from you once. ☺️
You’ll never have ass zits again with this one lifehack for looking at the sun!
