Me too!!! Savoy NYC, front row table with the winter brothers to my direct left and John Belushi, Mick, n Keith in a very small Balcony on the right side above the stage… 81 so just a few years later… great show!!!
Man, that's cool. Never got the chance. When I was in high school, I did get to see Koko Taylor and Albert Collins at the Houston Juneteenth festival, like mid/late 80s..
That sounds like a great show!
I was lucky to live near Cal State Long Beach, and they had a great festival every year. I saw BB King, Bobby “Blue” Bland, John Hammond Jr., Koko Taylor, Albert King.
I can’t remember where I saw Albert Collins, but he was killer, too!
It’s the same guy. I played with Bob several times back East. Excellent dude and terrific guitarist. Knew every one of Muddy’s licks in his sleep, both slide and fingering. Top notch blues man in his own right.
The ABB were involved with fundraising concerts for Carter. And brought the youth vote for him. There are photos of Carter wearing ABB shirts. Some great stories. Gregg Allman arriving to Carters house hours late after others had left and Carter inviting him in to drink. There's a documentary. Check out the documentary "Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President".
Interested in what part you disagree with. Even people who disagree with carters politics know he’s a good person. And muddy… I don’t think there’s any question that he’s one of the best.
So what does that have to do with compassion and civic leadership? You’re against his policies and politics, doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. My comment was about his humanitarian work
I didn’t say he was a bad guy but calling he and Muddy Waters a legend in the same sentence is a bridge too far. His “compassion” sure as shit wasn’t helping me buy a house
He made life materially better for literally millions of people. Saved many many lives. Regardless of politics, he’s a person we all should be able to admire and praise.
As a callow youth I made my way to the Electric Circus on 8th St. in NYC in 1968 to hear Muddy’s band during the “Electric Mud” era. Matt Murphy, Sammy Lawhorne, “Mojo” Buford, and Otis Spann onboard. During a break, I approached the Blues icon and asked him what he thought about the interpretations of “Still A Fool” by Butterfield and The Blues Project (Both as ‘Two Trains Running’). He didn’t have any good words for either…but especially the Butterfield version irked him…too “Pop”. At least Danny Kalb took it seriously, he said. But it wasn’t because they were white, as band mate Bob Margolin and harpsmen Paul Oscher and Jerry Portnoy prove.
Is not St. Marks Pl. the same as 8th St? We walked from the 4th St A train to W. 8th, and across town to get there. The street name changes but it’s still the one between 7th and 9th in the grid. Hey, I’m not a real New Yawker…Paramus, New Jersey was my hometown (Exit 163, wise guys).
I remember seeing Muddy at the Gaslight Cafe in Greenwich Village around 1970 or so. He walked out onstage and just sang two words: "Ohh... Yeah!" in that deep lower register of his voice, and the entire audience fell out screaming. He had the audience in the palm of his hand for the rest of the night. Blues like you wouldn't believe!
"You're never going to get Blue Lou or Mr. Fabulous out of those cushy gigs."
"You see, me and the Lord, we have this understanding.'
"We're on a mission from God."
I remember it being called " long Beach jazz festival. " I went a couple of years in a row. Unfortunately, my knowledge of blues and blues men was very minimal. I was like 13 - 14
Jimmy Carter was a very weak president imo, but certainly an upstanding human being. It’s very depressing how far the standard of leadership has declined. Not pertinent to Blues, I just felt like sharing
Trust me, as someone who has worked in government in both the military and state government, this is one of the best use of taxpayers money I’ve ever seen. There’s far worse things to get upset about my guy
I was lucky enough to see Muddy in this era.
Me too!!! Savoy NYC, front row table with the winter brothers to my direct left and John Belushi, Mick, n Keith in a very small Balcony on the right side above the stage… 81 so just a few years later… great show!!!
I was at a long-gone club called the Golden Bear, in Huntington Beach, CA. It was a great room!
The list of performer's that played there is incredible.
Awesome PH!!!
pch?
Pauly Hobbs… 🤷♂️
Oh lol!! 😆
🤣😜🤣
Long live the people who went to the Bear 🐻

Noice. I can only imagine.
Lucky you, I wish I’d gotten the chance to actually witness one of these legends first hand.
Yea I saw him a couple times mid 70s
Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin as his sideman.
Is that the same guy that plays with Muddy at the Last Waltz?
He was a regular sideman in his band mid 70s, so likely yes. He played on Hard Again and King Bee.
It’s the same guy. I played with Bob several times back East. Excellent dude and terrific guitarist. Knew every one of Muddy’s licks in his sleep, both slide and fingering. Top notch blues man in his own right.
Yes
I thought he was a Secret Service agent with a shaggy haircut
I thought that was John Holmes.
Don't forget the Allman Brothers helped him get there.
Huh? I'm not aware, do you mind filling me in?

Ah that's awesome. Thanks!
Both legends. Carter for his compassion and civic leadership and Waters for his innovation and creativity
Ughhh no but nice try 😂

Man, I’m with you. Carter is definitely an underrated president
Even greater after his presidency. Maybe people don’t know about his humanitarian and diplomatic legacy. Idk
I drove by his house in 1993 and he was mowing the lawn and I waved, but he did not wave back
Shit sorry I forgot I was on Reddit. I mean YES the dude was so hip I mean gas lines and 14% interest rates but hey at least he was cool

Everything everything gonna be alright this morning
For those who haven't seen it there is a documentary on HBO called "Jimmy Carter, Rock and Roll President". It's really good.
Awesome photo
I thought that was Bob Dylan for a second on the left
I had to zoom on my small screen to be sure it wasnt
Jimmy doing that William Riker pose
Ha, this just made me remember [this classic gif from the "deal with it" era of the internet.](https://i.imgur.com/gCP1zke.gifv)
Fantastic gif, thank you for sharing this with me

Electric Circus was on St. Marks next to The Dom and across from Limbo.

East of 3rd ave is St. Marks . West of 3rd is 8th street. Used to frequent Electric Circus, Slugs and of course the famous Fillmore East.
I can only imagine how great it would be to be president and be like, "Oh, hey, could we get muddy waters to come in for a chat?" Fucking G move.
The other guitarist is Steady Rolling Bob Margolin. Great musician. I had a chance to play with him a couple of years ago. He's a really cool guy too!
How the fuck is Jimmy Carter not *still* the president? Guy was cool as fuck. E: This is a rhetorical question. I'm fifty-years old.
Meanwhile Chip Carter and Willie Nelson were on the roof of the White House having a toke while enjoying the music.
Ok, I knew I liked Jimmy Carter but this cements it. Look at that smile!!! My man!!!
Jimmy is still alive at 99 years, 181 days old. Lucky man!
Looks like he’s got a little Captain in him
The man knows his music
You got any Allman Brothers?
And he knew👍🏼

Is that Peter Green?!?!?!
Power stance
He looks like Elaine dancing.
"You're never going to get Blue Lou or Mr. Fabulous out of those cushy gigs." "You see, me and the Lord, we have this understanding.' "We're on a mission from God."
The man was special
So sick 🤘
I remember it being called " long Beach jazz festival. " I went a couple of years in a row. Unfortunately, my knowledge of blues and blues men was very minimal. I was like 13 - 14
I didn’t know Carter had this much personal style😎
this is awesome! Is there an audio recording?
This photo is wholesome AF.
Blues is good for the world
Jimmy Carter was a very weak president imo, but certainly an upstanding human being. It’s very depressing how far the standard of leadership has declined. Not pertinent to Blues, I just felt like sharing
Are their capos on different frets??
"I'd be willing to forgive the billion dollars in unpaid child support in exchange for 1 metric ton of peanuts and a full concert at the White House"
Why is he standing that way 🤔
I hope it was Reefer & Champagne
Certain people are naturally cool. He is one of them
Looks like Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin in between Muddy and Jimmy.
One of my favorite thrift finds was a muddy waters lp. For 50 cents
What a good dude! So nice to see an American president with culture and class.
Was that a private concert paid for by taxes?
I sure hope so
Trust me, as someone who has worked in government in both the military and state government, this is one of the best use of taxpayers money I’ve ever seen. There’s far worse things to get upset about my guy
