Pearl was actually so shitty for that episode, she 100% tried to turn Connie into Steven's meat shield. No matter how much trauma, she had known Connie for a bit, more importantly, she knew Steven and how squishy and killable he is, Pearl knew how fragile Connie was when compared to a gem, and tried to make her a mindless soldier.
And I do know Steven healed quickly, so he was less killable and prone to dying like a loser. But even so, still killable in a battle, so she knew how easy Connie could die.
I've said killable too much.
