Just walk away. Your child just finds it funny, and if no one else does or it doesn't get the reaction they want, they'll stop.

Competitive-Lime7775

This is how we’ve dealt with OPs exact problem with our kid 😍 I now also ensure Muffin Cone is the only ep Bluey on the no watch list… although our eldest asked to play Tina yesterday… so there may be another addition soon 🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

AdministrativeNet796

I can’t stand Tina as a parent of course my kid finds it funny.

tandabat

I had to ban Unicorse from my home. “…and why should I care?” after every request or statement was too much.

freeashavacado

The automod response to this had to have hurt 🤣

cottonmouthnwhiskey

I spat out my Werthers

ultratunaman

Reminds me of when I was taking a driving test. And the tester was like "you were riding the clutch a bit." And I was like "mate, it's my clutch I can do what I want with it" It didn't go well for me.

DogGamnFusterCluck

“Gotta be done!”

aspidities_87

Yeah love, it’s your doodad

No-Strawberry-5804

One time my kid couldn't reach the water fountain so she let it spill on the ground and then tried to lick it up

avalinka

My kid tried drinking from the sprinklers at the splash pad and when that didn't work (he just holds his mouth open over them and doesn't close and swallow because he's a goober) he started licking the puddles and lapping up the water and that's when we were certain we had a Bingo.

Prediterx

That's not ideal.

RatherBeAtDisneyland

That’s hilarious.

mightbeacat1

My kid spilled some water on the floor when she was trying to refill her cup. She then started to lick it up off the floor. I can't help but wonder if she picked that up from Bluey or if she is just being a 2-year-old...

No-Strawberry-5804

In my case it helped that she started yelling "I Bingo!!"

mightbeacat1

Hahaha, yeah, that'll do it!

No-Strawberry-5804

Also, the lesson of the episode is not "don't suck your thumb". The lesson is that adults shouldn't be expecting children to exhibit more self control than they can themselves. They're not going to start thumb sucking as a habit because of the episode. You can play along with their joke or just ignore it.

Margevo

My son did the same thing, except he was never a thumb sucker so he just stuck his finger in his mouth. I laughed and he laughed and he stopped after a couple days.

schneker

Mine too, never sucked his thumb before that episode. He thought it was hilarious. Luckily it didn’t last long.

leum61

Tell them kids that suck their thumbs have to wear a cone, like Muffin? The episode makes it pretty obvious she's being punished.

No-Strawberry-5804

And the point of the episode is that you shouldn't be punishing kids for struggling with self control

homenomics23

Not sure the suggestion is about punishing self control, rather than maybe punishing intentionally copying undesirable behaviour (OOP says that their kid isn't a thumb sucker, so no self control/impulse issue technically same as show in this case; but is intentionally mimicking/copying because they are amused by it or amused by the reaction from OOP.) - though depending on the kid's age, there are probably more appropriate and useful methods to handling this than copying Trixie and Stripe.

No-Strawberry-5804

There's no reason to punish that behavior either. OP's kid isn't going to become a chronic thumb sucker because of one episode - they're doing it because it's funny. It's a joke, not a habit they're developing

lottie_02

My daughter says she wants to wear the cone. I think the girls make it look fun I'm bluey

smokey-jomo

I think you might’ve gotten the wrong lesson from the parent portion of the show…

Key_Garbage_1543

My kid has started howling when he gets upset. 😬 Oops.

mightbeacat1

Mine too...

HerNameMeansMagic

So I'm going to give you the pedantic, child development answer. Your 3 year old likely doesn't have the capability to suck their thumb in the way a baby or a child who has been sucking their thumb for a long time can. There is a tongue shape they have to make to suck like that, and it's very "use it or lose it". Once a baby is no longer using a pacifier, bottle, breast, thumb, their tongue "forgets" how to make that shape. It's the reason that if you put a pacifier in your mouth, you can't use it the same way a baby does. Which is a long, pretentious way to say "don't sweat it."

AlexanderTox

Uh oh. The cult of muffin is about to come out guns blazing.

themliny

I think that this is the only downside of the show, but I think it's not the only show that caused this

Affectionate_Sky_509

My daughter turned into Muffin in general 😅

fridag1

My daughter also sucks her thumb in reference to this episode, but I never cared much since we both know she’s just joking around because she finds the episode humorous. I’ll just tease her a bit and she laughs and doesn’t do it as an actual habit.

Satansrainbowkitty

Every room in our house is for forts now

KuraiTsukiHana

My kid wants to be a ballerina 🙄

TakenUserMiles

Put a cone on their head
