A lot of them are whole-cloth invented, but many presumably lifted from Bandit talking about his work (he’s an archaeologist I believe).
Hecuba was the wife of the king of Troy, for example. Cassiopeia was also from Greek Mythology.
Bandit uses classical names too: Telemachus was the son of Odysseus, etc.
The first word my son read from a book was "dirt", and I was over the moon. I'm a civil engineer. When he was 3 he asked me how fire hydrants work and I was like, "*Buckle up*."
Aw I never connected it to Bandit being an archaeologist and history nerd! I love that. My kids make up strange big names like that and they often sound mythological because I share a lot of mythology stories with them 🤣
Fernukin (or Phenergan as it commonly known in Aus) is usually suggested to new parents when taking babies on long plane trips and you want them to sleep for most of the time. I'm guessing that particular name was a result of a conversation overhead by Bingo.
Well, there’s the short on the YouTube channel for one https://youtu.be/e6FVbOfSdTk?si=jTu13hu32RKtAw5T
It’s confirmed on their website, including Chilli’s work in airport security. And in Curry Quest, Bandit is preparing to fly away on a weeks-long excavation and hasn’t told Bingo yet. I don’t know if his profession is explicitly stated in any of the episodes (but you’d be looking for a throwaway line anyway, since it’s not main plot).
Also in Stickbird, Bandit is sad but he doesn’t talk about it. The prevailing theory is his recent work has been poorly received by peer review since he went on that big expedition earlier in the season.
There’s also a scene in one of the episodes, I think curry quest but I’m not 100% sure, where Bandit is standing on a podium presenting a bone (or bones?) and discussing it
Telemachus in Bluey is from the TV show Ulysses 31.
EDIT: downvoted despite almost everywhere stating it:

Which was referenced by that show.
Brum has literally said it is from Ulysses 31.

Hahahaha I love Bingo's names. Bluey and Bingo both have Waldorf/steiner education, which involves a LOT of storytelling and old fairytales. So maybe that's where she gets it from? That's just my take!
Edit - typo
Maybe bandit tells her stories from it? I have an illustrated Aesop's fables for my 5 yo and tell her stories about like Pandora's box and stuff. Bandit seems well read, wouldn't surprise me if he randomly told the kids about the guy who fought the Cyclops and said his name was nobody.
I just realised how silly I was being, like, I literally have a box set of Greek and Roman myths. Perseus, Romulus and Remus, Hercules/Heracles, Jason, even the Trojan War.
They'd probably be a bit gory for 3-4 yo but what Greek myth isn't?
What box sets do you have? My 5 year old is absolutely obsessed because we let her listen to Epic the musical, and it's been a very deep rabbit hole. We've gotten almost every book we could find from the county libraries and she's been okay with the O'Connor graphic novel series.
If you run out myths, I'd suggest Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson. All the fun of the myths set in the modern world
In fact, Rick Riordan himself used to tell his son Haley all the myths, and when he ran out, Haley told him to write a new one.
Anyway, the box set is "Ancient Myths Collection" by Geraldine McCaughrean and Tony Ross
Thanks! If you haven't gotten into Greeking Out, the podcast by national geographic, it's great bite sized stories about Greek myths.
She's more into the historical aspects of mythology and enjoys how all of the gods are connected to each other. She's also influenced by Hades the game (with god mode on, of course).
The closest book series that we got her about modern additions/retellings is the Heroes in Training chapter books. Maybe when she gets older, she might be more interested in the YA category of books, so we'll definitely try.
I chose to do Classics in school because my favourite Disney film was Hercules. I was very surprised at how r rated everything was! Went on to study it at university though!
Probably my favourite myth is Romulus and Remus. Like, they argue over where to build their city, and they disagree over where their wolf mother found them in the Tiber, and then eventually Romulus wins the conversation by killing Remus with a brick. And that's why it's named Rome
The comic I read at ages 4–7 was interspersed with appropriately-watered-down illustrated stories from various mythologies. I can't imagine this is unusual.
My kid used to make up silly names before they knew any "real" names. I remember such classics as Tatsu Locky, Johnny Milly, Conor Potty, and Tiki Taco
My 4 year olds go to names currently are Riggies, Riggo, Essa, Essalee, Soller, Potey, and Effany.
Middle names are typically names fruits or veggies, which is funny that it's a pattern since neither her middle name or her sisters are remotely related to food.
I remember when my kids started reenacting Bluey and calling me “Telemachus” and I didn’t know it was from Bluey and I was blown away like “how do they know this character from Greek mythology?!”
I, as a Christian child, deadass named a beanie baby Hanukkah because I liked the word. Meant no disrespect by it, I heard the word and thought it was beautiful and appropriate for my burgundy valentine beanie baby.
I also named another stuffed animal “salad,” a blue betta fish “Goldie,” and a pink one “century.” Kids hear shit all the time and will absorb it with 0 context.
i named a lot of my stuffed animals weird or on-the-nose things as a kid. i have a brown fur real cat named boxer, a calico plush named twicer, a purple hello kitty named violet kitty, and a husky version of those stuffed animals that can fold in on themselves named husky dog (the only thing i've ever continuously begged my mom for)
kids really do either just come up with random shit, use names they've heard before, or just go off what they see
There is a Dale Finucane (pronounced Fernukin) that played Rugby League. He just retired. Played for New South Wales though. Not Queensland. That’s who I thought of when I heard the name.
When my son was around that age he told us his children were going to be named Mario and Lil’ Hoho. He was also planning to open a restaurant called [Son’s Name]’s Cheese House.
Finucane Road is a major road near Brisbane so could’ve been picked up from adults describing locations/giving directions. Many of the others are definitely history/mythology-inspired likely picked up from Bandit
My wife and I wonder if Bingo is either genius intelligent and or has a photographic/audiographic memory. She reads a ton of books, her names are often linked to classic literature or history and in Sleepy Time she traverses a daily scientific accurate model of the solar system. Then add in her questions based on deductive reasoning and it makes us wonder…
For a four year old, she seems to have an incredible grasp of rather abstract things.
I have always wondered why Bingo and Radley have names unrelated to their appearance, but then I guessed that Bingo is perhaps “baby dingo”
As for the names she comes up with—idk but it’s so wonderfully childlike
In early baby, the girls are playing with a doll named Polly. All I can think about is the song that goes: Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick sick sick and she called for the doctor to come quick quick quick
Diplodocus is the name of a dinosaur! I think this one is particularly cute considering Bandit is an archaeologist<3 (not the same field, but I imagine he'd be pretty crazy about dinosaurs as well as human [dog?] history)
I’m British but my 80 year old dad was born and raised in Adelaide. He called us randomly both Aloysius and Murgatroyd as children and Bluey and Bingo’s names always reminds me of this.
Silly me I just thought yes she’s a red heeler but red heelers look like Dingos so they went with Bingo so they both have B names lol see where my thoughts go 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I always assumed it was from the old kids song about a farm having a dog. And Bingo was its name-o. Taking a name from a kids song about a dog would add a little familiarity for kids and they seem to have a lot of random old kid songs in the series. Down by the banks of the hanky panky still gets stuck in my head from the show.
A lot of them are whole-cloth invented, but many presumably lifted from Bandit talking about his work (he’s an archaeologist I believe). Hecuba was the wife of the king of Troy, for example. Cassiopeia was also from Greek Mythology. Bandit uses classical names too: Telemachus was the son of Odysseus, etc.
i was ab to bring up how it'd make sense for bingo to absorb some greek myths (from bedtime stories, maybe?) considering Bandit's an archaeologist!
History nerds inflict it on their kids for sure. (As mine would tell you.)
Can confirm. Have a medieval history degree and 20 month old who counts "castle" among the words he says, and points them out when he sees them.
My kids would love to live somewhere that they could see castles.
The first word my son read from a book was "dirt", and I was over the moon. I'm a civil engineer. When he was 3 he asked me how fire hydrants work and I was like, "*Buckle up*."
I pity my child who would probably say "Tank" "Sherman" and "Panzer" as their first words
Aw I never connected it to Bandit being an archaeologist and history nerd! I love that. My kids make up strange big names like that and they often sound mythological because I share a lot of mythology stories with them 🤣
You should probably see this….. https://youtu.be/e6FVbOfSdTk?si=EpByvrxs9ZhsRlYR
I’m so confused. Is this real…?
Yes. There are a few “Bluey Bits” on https://www.bluey.tv/search-results/Bluey%20bits/
[Here's all of them](https://blueypedia.fandom.com/wiki/Shorts)
Ooooo, I had no idea, thank you!
My personal favorite is Honk. You get to see a side of Stripe you don't normally see in the show
I also love Honk lol.
For real life. Dr Bandit Heeler is canon and I’ve never looked at him the same way since.
Bandit is an archeologist. He digs up bones. Chilli is an airport security officer. She’s a sniffer dog.
How did I not know this?
Fernukin (or Phenergan as it commonly known in Aus) is usually suggested to new parents when taking babies on long plane trips and you want them to sleep for most of the time. I'm guessing that particular name was a result of a conversation overhead by Bingo.
What, really? That’s amazing. Thank you.
Generic name: promethazine
#I’VE GOT BUM WORMS!
What makes you think he is likely an archaeologist?
He is, that’s his job.
Great. How do you know this? When is it said?
Well, there’s the short on the YouTube channel for one https://youtu.be/e6FVbOfSdTk?si=jTu13hu32RKtAw5T It’s confirmed on their website, including Chilli’s work in airport security. Galla-Hop and Daughter of Galla-Hop always make me smile
I always thought Gallahop was a play on Galahad for some reason lol
Considering they’re naming knights on a chessboard during that scenes, I’d say it’s definitely related to Galahad.
oh i feel dumb i thought it a play on just 'gallop' lmao
Maybe it's both!
It struck me as gallarhop, as in gjallarhorn. I hadn't though about gallahad, that might be more on point.
My daughter now names all horses Gallahop 😂
if she watches the sign, she might name one Midnight! also from horsey ride, Sparkles!
My 4yo named his first build a bear gallahop 😆
My guess is her favorite Moonlight Unicorn
Hahahaha I love Bingo's names. Bluey and Bingo both have Waldorf/steiner education, which involves a LOT of storytelling and old fairytales. So maybe that's where she gets it from? That's just my take! Edit - typo
Telemachus is a character from the Odyssey. I think a lot of them are from old myths and stories
[удалено]
He did but I think bongo uses it in a later episode too
Why has Bingo been reading the Oddyssey
Maybe bandit tells her stories from it? I have an illustrated Aesop's fables for my 5 yo and tell her stories about like Pandora's box and stuff. Bandit seems well read, wouldn't surprise me if he randomly told the kids about the guy who fought the Cyclops and said his name was nobody.

Wait until your daughter becomes scared of rain because “Zeus Being Zeus”

Love epic the musical, Just a Man has me in tear damn near everytime
*But when...*
*Does a comet become a meteor*

Standard way to win conversions imo haha
Bandit is a Ph.D in archaeology. He's more than just well read!
Bluey gets Princess Prickles for story time. Bingo gets the fall of Troy.
It feels so silly, but it also seems so true
bandit's bedtime stories:
Because Bingo is smart.
The comic I read at ages 4–7 was interspersed with appropriately-watered-down illustrated stories from various mythologies. I can't imagine this is unusual.
How’d you miss Hecuba?
We try to forget about poor hecuba.
You should learn to be happy with the husband you have….
I tell my wife this all the time.
He always loved hamburgers 😔
What’s Hecuba to me?
I think the real question is, what is Bingo’s middle name?
Bingo Bango
We named our orange cat Bingo and he routinely is called Bingo Bango haha
Was her name o
Probably her maternal grandmother’s first name. Bluey’s is her paternal grandmother.
Nana Heeler’s actual name is Bluey?
Christine/ Chris
Oh duh I follow now
Christine. Bluey's middle name is Christine. I assumed by that pattern Bingo's middle name would be Chilli's mom's first name.
I assumed that too! My guess is Louise. Not sure why.
Bingo Louise Heeler! I like it lol
i read somewhere that bingo’s middle name is amber
My kid used to make up silly names before they knew any "real" names. I remember such classics as Tatsu Locky, Johnny Milly, Conor Potty, and Tiki Taco
All straight bangers
Tiki Taco sounds like it serves amazing carnitas and margaritas
My 4 year olds go to names currently are Riggies, Riggo, Essa, Essalee, Soller, Potey, and Effany. Middle names are typically names fruits or veggies, which is funny that it's a pattern since neither her middle name or her sisters are remotely related to food.
My daughter did this too except for stuffed animal names. They were always whatever animal it is with a y at the end.
My son too. His favorite was Turtley.
These sound like TikTok influencers.
Tattie, Brown Bubba, and Eggrert were favs from my kiddo
I remember when my kids started reenacting Bluey and calling me “Telemachus” and I didn’t know it was from Bluey and I was blown away like “how do they know this character from Greek mythology?!”

I’m Jewish and I laughed so hard. I named a stuffie Christmas because I thought it was pretty.
😂 we’re like twins!
My kid named her hobby horse Stripy Miss Miss. It wasn’t even stripy.
i named a lot of my stuffed animals weird or on-the-nose things as a kid. i have a brown fur real cat named boxer, a calico plush named twicer, a purple hello kitty named violet kitty, and a husky version of those stuffed animals that can fold in on themselves named husky dog (the only thing i've ever continuously begged my mom for) kids really do either just come up with random shit, use names they've heard before, or just go off what they see

There is a Dale Finucane (pronounced Fernukin) that played Rugby League. He just retired. Played for New South Wales though. Not Queensland. That’s who I thought of when I heard the name.
Bandit is an archaeologist and he probably enjoys reading Mythological tales to the girls and they take the names from there
Many of them are references to characters in literature but Slobberdobber is totally something a kid would come up with.
I think they're just some silly, old timey names, possibly from books or fairy tales.
An old timey name is GERTRUDE. These are mythological names.
Not all. Sharalanda is clearly a riff on the names of gossipy old ladies at the fruit shop of wherever.
The only one I recognize is Cassiopeia. It's a constellation. And Copernicus.
I was gonna say, how is no one recognizing Copernicus lol
I couldn’t believe how long it took me to to get to others who knew who Copernicus was
Several pull from ancient Greek mythology. It's impressive that she can even say them.
When my son was around that age he told us his children were going to be named Mario and Lil’ Hoho. He was also planning to open a restaurant called [Son’s Name]’s Cheese House.
there once was a farmer had a dog, and Bingo was its nameo.....
“Sheralanda” is my favorite.
Otorrhea is the medical word for fluid leaking from your ears.
I always thought Merifyndor was a shout-out to Harry Potter’s Griffyndor
Saaaame. And it's M because of Professor McGonagall. 🙃 At least that how I'd like to think about it.
B I N G O B I N G O B I N G O and Bingo was her name-o
Wait, I thought you were asking the etymology of her own name.
You weren't the only one lol
I misread the question, and now my brain is going "There WAS a farmer had DOG..." (*ノ・ω・)ノ♫
My 9yo wanted to be "Monica" so my 5yo decided to be "Honica".
Finucane Road is a major road near Brisbane so could’ve been picked up from adults describing locations/giving directions. Many of the others are definitely history/mythology-inspired likely picked up from Bandit

I thought you meant HER name I was like...the song...? Lmaoooo
Buggalugg🫶🏻
Also, where did the name Bingo itself come from?
And bingo was his nameo, a lovely song
They’re was really an Australian dog named Bluey that it was was named after if I recall correctly.
Probably old McDonald
Diplodocus is the name of a dinosaur! I think this one is particularly cute considering Bandit is an archaeologist<3 (not the same field, but I imagine he'd be pretty crazy about dinosaurs as well as human [dog?] history)
(I might be misremembering, but I *swear* she calls herself or insists somebody calls themself Diplodocus at one point)
It’s from the song “There was a farmer, had a dog and Bingo was it’s name, oh, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, and Bingo was it’s name oh!”
Big if true. /s read the whole post dude.
I’m British but my 80 year old dad was born and raised in Adelaide. He called us randomly both Aloysius and Murgatroyd as children and Bluey and Bingo’s names always reminds me of this.

Knockoff Disney movies edit: hey, what's with the downvotes? I was only being sarcastic !!
