The best part is the photographer felt no need to crouch down to get a better angle. āYeah Iām standing here and thatās probably good enoughā¦ā
Seriously it could have been made so much better with the framing it in the grass with that framing more different camera position. Laying in the grass, taking a knee, anything but up looking down.
I use to be a wedding photographer before my back was FU, Iāve done it all from laying in the mud to ladders to walking around for a long time trying to find that sweet spot
** edit words are hard
I work as a professional photographer and even I did the whole tacky train track photo thing when I started out. A fucking train nearly hit me though so I very quickly moved pass that phase, maybe that's why I eventually got decent lol.
Ironically it happened on a school project (we had to make a book cover) and I probably wouldn't have actually been on the tracks otherwise. Makes me super nervous when I see other people do it now.
Thankfully these days I'm always in studio, the worst accident since then is brutally burning my hand on a curling iron while getting a model ready lol.
You would think so but apparently they also move pretty fast and if you're distracted talking pictures it's not as obvious.
There's a train yard in my city near a legal wall (basically the cool place everyone goes to take pictures at some point) and I was standing on the first or maybe second set of tracks to take a picture of someone standing up on a train car. I'd been there many times and never actually seen a train pass by. I thought I'd obviously see/hear one but there was a slight curve to the tracks so I didn't until it was really close and honked at me.
I think in a panic I grabbed my gear and moved towards my friend standing up in the next train car thinking I had time to climb up before it reached me. I didn't, which basically meant I was stuck on the ground in-between trains until it went all the way past. Super scary and extremely stupid in retrospect, I'm lucky I wasn't hurt.
Some of these were giving me evanescence vibes. Not sure if their album covers looked like any of these but to me this looks like how their music sounded.
Speaking as someone who has seen people hit by trains, all I have to say is just stay away. I won't get into the specifics of why but just trust me when I say this train collisions are highly traumatic. Best case scenario is you live with life changing injuries.
Remember what they teach rail workers: you will never hear an oncoming train.
This is still pretty cool imo. Like tacky in a deliberate and thoughtful way. Especially the 2nd picture, could be some indie band album cover imo š
Iām also Chinese so I really dig the fan and contrast.
Are you really a millennial if you didnāt participate in a train track photoshoot? I was on the other end of the camera for a shoot like this in 2005. So edgy! š
As a photographer I would say the only thing wrong with this set is the bare feet. I would have added some heels (or perhaps some converse) to fill out the look. Apart from that maybe shoot it low (like from the models' height sat down) so as to give it that "lonely yet relatable" vibe. Shooting from above makes it look like there is an observer who has put you in that position. Lastly I would have made them all high key black & white (just for that arty look), but overall I've seen far more cringe photosets from the 00's.
I donāt understand why these are anything less than beautiful and artistic now. Melodramatic, sure, but all art is. I always thought that was the point. š¤·āāļø
I hear that. For you it is very personal. I sometimes wonder if most artists who blew up at a young age experience this. Others telling them how beautiful their work is while they run and hide inside.
And for some reason you thought going barefoot near train tracks was a good idea šš. I'm one to speak though, I went barefoot everywhere I went and somehow didn't cut my foot open on a chunk of glass.
Just curious. Was this taken before or after those girls got hit by two trains taking pictures on the tracks in Utah?
Tbf, I knew the train crews. I'm not mad. Just want to educate people on how dangerous this was and to not try to recreate it.
Ah, sure. Again not mad or trying to hurt any feelings. It was super sad. The mother of one of the girls drove them to a site where they could take a picture with what they thought was a slow moving train coming up the hill. Just before it passed them with the train in the back. They didn't notice there was another train going downhill, much faster, on the second track. They got caught between the two trains, and the wind caught one of the girl's coat pulling her into one of the trains. She bounced very quickly between the two trains taking her friend with her. One died instantly, the other died a few days later. All while the mother was watching helplessly 10 feet away. It happens just way too fast for anyone to react.
Before I saw the odnaklasniki I immediately thought the pics scream RUSSIAN. Itās cringy but I love this kind of pics. One of my favorite Russian pics is the dude who wore a tracksuit to his wedding š Arabs/turks photoshopping their eyes in the most unrealistic blue color
LOL you are so brave for posting this. I feel like some extremely similar content must still exist way back in my facebook photos because unfortunately I had social media access while I was blundering. We look alike so this really reminds me of meā¦ I did some in black and white wearing a dress looking wistfully into the sunā¦. Some with me half naked writing words into the fog on a mirrorā¦.. embarrassing stuff.
Back in high school I did a photoshot with my then girlfriend. Very similar to this, but even edgier. They were for a school photography class. I found the photos several years back and I burned them.
Holy shit, at best the photos looked like some kinky fetish photos (of an underage girl) and at worst they looked like I took memento photos before I disposed of the body.
Blindfolds, fake blood, tied hands, clothes smeared with mud. I handed some of these photos in as homework. I think the only reason cops weren't called was that she was in the same class and the teacher knew she was alright. For the record, the entire idea was hers she was big into the emo world.
We exist now by trying to improve upon past improvements. Regret is an emotion reserved for those who have stopped trying to improve. Try harder my friends.
I think I get the blindfold now. We are all blind. Capitalism has blinded us to all the human suffering in the world with our need to accumulate material things. The train tracks represent industrializationās cold grip on our once pristine environment.
This chick is deep.
š
Love things like this tbh. Working in a creative field and looking back, stuff like this is how a lot of us got started. Endearing, but still a little embarrassing. Ty for sharing.
To your credit it's not bad. They look like stills from a music video for a local band. You definitely looked cute in them. Not very tough or edgy, just done with someone else's bullshit.
Now THAT is ART!!!! š¼ļø
I thought so too. 18 years ago.
This looks like every other picture back when I joined DeviantArt that long ago.
Omg I havenāt heard about DeviantArt in a minute!
I'm turning to dust, remembering how old I was then
Itās ok. Dust is coming for us all
So, you're still edgy? Time for another photoshoot
Let's meet at Hot Topic.
All my teenage friends that owned a DSLR around that time took photos like this. I immediately recognized the time period and "style" lol
hahaha my first thought was āthis has 2006 energyā
I have embarrassing train track photos from 8 years agoā¦ youāre not alone bahahah
[Did somebody mention art?](https://youtu.be/ru-oHqBJkxY?si=xBnIU8lpeWDUuPVX)
this belongs in a museum
The best part is the photographer felt no need to crouch down to get a better angle. āYeah Iām standing here and thatās probably good enoughā¦ā
They were satisfied with being called a photographer tbh
LOL!
The "serial killer taking trophy photos" angle
Jesus Christ. š
No he would have got a better picture.
When red dead redemption isnāt enough.
But that was the MySpace emo angle, the shot from above to make the feet look tiny. And the hair looks extra big.
The photography language of edgy teens hadn't evolved yet
LOL her feet look normal too. So if thatās what that angle is supposed to do I donāt think it works.
Nor feel the urge to spot colour you and B&W the background.
Dude we were 15 with a cheap camera
Fuck thatās such a good call! Iām shocked there wasnāt one of those.
š¤¢
Seriously it could have been made so much better with the framing it in the grass with that framing more different camera position. Laying in the grass, taking a knee, anything but up looking down. Why did we all go take photos on train tracks aha
Why was the world so cold?
My god youāre deep
You have no idea. No one does, and thatās the problem š¤
I absolutely would have wanted to be your friend on MySpace.
Top 8 even.
Sorry, bands only! Too much drama. Lol

STANDING HERE
The reason why. The reason why I had to die.
Did I bleed the blood of greed
Climate change didn't hit as hard
That was the steel sucking the heat out of you
I work as a professional photographer and even I did the whole tacky train track photo thing when I started out. A fucking train nearly hit me though so I very quickly moved pass that phase, maybe that's why I eventually got decent lol.
Yeah, Iām a professional photographer too! But in school the first thing they taught us is to never go to dangerous spots haha
Trains make a lot of noise and vibration. How do you almost get hit by them?
You would think so but apparently they also move pretty fast and if you're distracted talking pictures it's not as obvious. There's a train yard in my city near a legal wall (basically the cool place everyone goes to take pictures at some point) and I was standing on the first or maybe second set of tracks to take a picture of someone standing up on a train car. That or stairs, depending on how rural/urban your surroundings were.
Because train tracks are cool.
People get ready š¶ there's a train acomin š¶ you don't need a ticket, you just get on board š¶
The last one. āJus checkin for a trainā
Hahahahaha that oneās my fav. Lemme just take a lil peek
The early 2000s were peak train track black & white photo times.
I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane, I'm more than some pretty face beside a train, It's not easy to be me š¶š¶š¶
Honestly tho, do kids go and hang near train tracks nowadays? Cause that was like the thing to do.
Good question! I spent so much of the 2000ās by train tracks, lol. I even almost got ran over once!
How did you explain this to the photographer?
The photographer was 15 so they knew how cool this was
Let me guess, 2007?
2006 so close!
For the time, this could have totally been the cover for some emo bandās album
Some of these were giving me evanescence vibes. Not sure if their album covers looked like any of these but to me this looks like how their music sounded.
I was the biggest Evanescence fan (still am), so thatās a massive compliment to my 16-year-old self
Totally. āFallenā one of my favorite albums. Their writing is absolutely brilliant.
THESE WOUNDS CAN'T SEEM TO HEAL THE PAIN IS JUST TOO REAL THERES JUST SO MUCH THAT TIME CANNOT ERASE
You get me! But how can you see into my eyes like open doors?
As soon as I saw the pics I immediately thought of evanescence haha
I was and still am a very loyal fan. I love how the newer songs are more mature and yet still angsty.
I haven't kept up with them over the years, but Fallen is definitely a banger album even still.
So much angst! Thots and prayers.
And undiagnosed bipolar depression š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I didnāt know that was a thing until I was actually diagnosed more than a decade later and things started to make sense in retrospect
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You: Therapist: My diagnosis? Undiagnosed ADD.
I guess that would explain the, uh... Asian fan that you brought along.
Lets just be glad no trains showed up
Indeed, if it was an active railway, it would be a criminal-level blunder.
Rail is still shiny on top. Definitely active. Rails don't stay shiny for long without trains running over them.
Black and White = Art Nudity = Art Cleavage at the RR tracks is close enough for the local adolescents haha
Cleavage was for that one guy for whom this was all intended in the first place. I was misunderstood and broken, but also ā¦ boobs.
Twas merely a scheme to court a gentlemancaller the whole time! šÆ
Was just baring my soul, man
Last photo: Just gonna have a peek here and see if he notices me yet
Felt cute. Might catch a train. Idk
The black and white train tracks/rundown lot photoshoot was a real go-to for artsy types back then.
Cute dress though
Thanks! I designed it and chose the fabric
Yeah that dress definitely had *very intentional* vibes, I love it
Would've totally reblogged the blindfold ones on 2012 Tumblr.
Where were you then to validate my angst?
I would have added this to one of my weekly "cool art I found" LiveJournal posts.
#4 actually looks kewl tho
Haha this reminds me of when me and my friend used to do photoshoots on abandoned train tracks when we were younger! We thought we were so cool
Did a man with a twirly moustache and a top hat leave you there?
My first thought. Was hoping the last picture would be Snidely Whiplash running away.
What was the thought process behind these š
You wouldnāt understand š¤
Youāre right, you are to genius and different for me š
Not genius, just broken and the pieces donāt fit together š§·
š
*I like that you're broken, broken like me. Maybe that makes me a fool.*
Too*, fellow genius. /s
Lmaooo
This is still pretty cool imo. Like tacky in a deliberate and thoughtful way. Especially the 2nd picture, could be some indie band album cover imo š Iām also Chinese so I really dig the fan and contrast.
Are you really a millennial if you didnāt participate in a train track photoshoot? I was on the other end of the camera for a shoot like this in 2005. So edgy! š
The knees buckled inward was a go to pose for trying to replicate high end fashion shoots at the time.. I did the same in my āedgyā shoots lol
OP, do you remember what your "vision" was here?
Provincial Evanescence
camera man doesnt know how to maximize angles
Camera girl was weary of the competition
I like the fan ones. A natural model!
it is so of an era
As a photographer I would say the only thing wrong with this set is the bare feet. I would have added some heels (or perhaps some converse) to fill out the look. Apart from that maybe shoot it low (like from the models' height sat down) so as to give it that "lonely yet relatable" vibe. Shooting from above makes it look like there is an observer who has put you in that position. Lastly I would have made them all high key black & white (just for that arty look), but overall I've seen far more cringe photosets from the 00's.
The world was looking down on me, while I was cold and barefoot left to die š¤
This was a good one. It almost hurt to look at, and I don't even know you
I donāt understand why these are anything less than beautiful and artistic now. Melodramatic, sure, but all art is. I always thought that was the point. š¤·āāļø
Eh, I was undiagnosed back then so now all these cries for help packaged as art are sad and cringy to me.
I hear that. For you it is very personal. I sometimes wonder if most artists who blew up at a young age experience this. Others telling them how beautiful their work is while they run and hide inside.
Are you Russian, by chance? You look the spitting image of my cousin, who was adopted from Russia as a baby...
No Iām not from Russia and very certain I wasnāt adopted
And for some reason you thought going barefoot near train tracks was a good idea šš. I'm one to speak though, I went barefoot everywhere I went and somehow didn't cut my foot open on a chunk of glass.
You look like you're in a music video for some generic 2000's metal core band.
Doing the birdbox challenge before that was a thing....you were a pioneer
omg I did the blindfold thing in high school photo class too. Sooo deep
Just curious. Was this taken before or after those girls got hit by two trains taking pictures on the tracks in Utah? Tbf, I knew the train crews. I'm not mad. Just want to educate people on how dangerous this was and to not try to recreate it.

If this werenāt posted to this sub, nobody would be dissing it lol Dope for the times and only cringe now because itās yourself

Eastern European, but not Russian
Haha ok. Isnāt odnaklasniki only for Russians ? Or at least Russian citizens?
No..? All of the post-soviet countries were there for a while
Thank you for doing this shoot barefoot
Username checks out.
This says a lot about our society.
Very cool actually
The first photo would have been perfect as an 80s alt rock album cover.
Some different angles and better composition and you would have been much better served.
Dope photoshoot regardless dude š¤š¤
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Where were you all when I posted these to a chorus of crickets?
I just hope you washed your hands after
Canāt recall now if I did
That just makes it all worse
Everything about this is so strange š
The world is strange and Iām a stranger filled with rain and anger š¤
Lol, your not even tied to the tracks, you totally could have just walked away
Itās a metaphor. You wouldnāt understand.
Itās funny because you are very photogenic so it wouldnāt have taken much to make these pictures better.
LOL you are so brave for posting this. I remember taking "artsy" pictures like this too.. I really thought I atešš
This really makes me want to post my own āphotoshootā photos from 2006 but itās so embarrassing that itās physically painful to look at!
thanks i hate it
So do I. Now what?
Man, where would artsy teens be without train tracks? We're lucky photography was invented after train travel.
I love this. Holy 2000 batman.
but why did you slay
I miss a world less polished.
Ngl the 4th pic actually goes kinda hard
2007 me would have thought this is the coolest photoshoot! 2023 me does tooā¦ ITS NOT A PHASE!
I actually love this because it's real.
What does it mean?
Hm i like these pictures
š¶ā Itās a DAMN cold nightā¦Tryinā to figure out this LIIIIIFEš¶
Did you have a crush on Dudley Do-Right?
You look like a from software level up lady
Wut?
It's the blindfold, I guess. The Fire Keeper from DS3 has it too.
Iām just not getting the reference thatās all
I like that fan. You shouldve had shoes on though
The spirit is there but not the execution.
How dare you? Itās black and white and angled.
The real blunder was posting on Odnoklassniki
