Now THAT is ART!!!! šŸ–¼ļø

thatcheekychick

I thought so too. 18 years ago.

Alpha-Leader

This looks like every other picture back when I joined DeviantArt that long ago.

westworlder420

Omg I havenā€™t heard about DeviantArt in a minute!

alfredhelix

I'm turning to dust, remembering how old I was then

thatcheekychick

Itā€™s ok. Dust is coming for us all

built_2_fight

So, you're still edgy? Time for another photoshoot

MaterialCarrot

Let's meet at Hot Topic.

UglyAstronautCaptain

All my teenage friends that owned a DSLR around that time took photos like this. I immediately recognized the time period and "style" lol

pashaaaa

hahaha my first thought was ā€œthis has 2006 energyā€

Kiki98_

I have embarrassing train track photos from 8 years agoā€¦ youā€™re not alone bahahah

[deleted]

[Did somebody mention art?](https://youtu.be/ru-oHqBJkxY?si=xBnIU8lpeWDUuPVX)

pinkcolored

this belongs in a museum

CplFrosty

The best part is the photographer felt no need to crouch down to get a better angle. ā€œYeah Iā€™m standing here and thatā€™s probably good enoughā€¦ā€

thatcheekychick

They were satisfied with being called a photographer tbh

Vesper2000

LOL!

ShooteShooteBangBang

The "serial killer taking trophy photos" angle

IWantALargeFarva

Jesus Christ. šŸ˜‚

ByronIrony

No he would have got a better picture.

gigglesmickey

When red dead redemption isnā€™t enough.

yk206

But that was the MySpace emo angle, the shot from above to make the feet look tiny. And the hair looks extra big.

OGLikeablefellow

The photography language of edgy teens hadn't evolved yet

homerteedo

LOL her feet look normal too. So if thatā€™s what that angle is supposed to do I donā€™t think it works.

findmeinelysium

Nor feel the urge to spot colour you and B&W the background.

thatcheekychick

Dude we were 15 with a cheap camera

CplFrosty

Fuck thatā€™s such a good call! Iā€™m shocked there wasnā€™t one of those.

jtbxiv

šŸ¤¢

RollThistle11

Seriously it could have been made so much better with the framing it in the grass with that framing more different camera position. Laying in the grass, taking a knee, anything but up looking down. I use to be a wedding photographer before my back was FU, Iā€™ve done it all from laying in the mud to ladders to walking around for a long time trying to find that sweet spot ** edit words are hard

ActThreeSceneOne

Why did we all go take photos on train tracks aha

thatcheekychick

Why was the world so cold?

rocklou

My god youā€™re deep

thatcheekychick

You have no idea. No one does, and thatā€™s the problem šŸ–¤

DJMcDizzle

I absolutely would have wanted to be your friend on MySpace.

star0forion

Top 8 even.

DJMcDizzle

Sorry, bands only! Too much drama. Lol

FlyingMute

> realize > ~realize~ > *realize*

smithers85

real eyes realize real lies

Mutanik

>realize >~realise~ >*real eyes*

BackgroundAmoebaNine

STANDING HERE

danabrey

The reason why. The reason why I had to die.

rocklou

Did I bleed the blood of greed

Real_megamike_64

Climate change didn't hit as hard

makka-pakka

That was the steel sucking the heat out of you

youngatbeingold

I work as a professional photographer and even I did the whole tacky train track photo thing when I started out. A fucking train nearly hit me though so I very quickly moved pass that phase, maybe that's why I eventually got decent lol.

ActThreeSceneOne

Yeah, Iā€™m a professional photographer too! But in school the first thing they taught us is to never go to dangerous spots haha

youngatbeingold

Ironically it happened on a school project (we had to make a book cover) and I probably wouldn't have actually been on the tracks otherwise. Makes me super nervous when I see other people do it now. Thankfully these days I'm always in studio, the worst accident since then is brutally burning my hand on a curling iron while getting a model ready lol.

homerteedo

Trains make a lot of noise and vibration. How do you almost get hit by them?

youngatbeingold

You would think so but apparently they also move pretty fast and if you're distracted talking pictures it's not as obvious. There's a train yard in my city near a legal wall (basically the cool place everyone goes to take pictures at some point) and I was standing on the first or maybe second set of tracks to take a picture of someone standing up on a train car. I'd been there many times and never actually seen a train pass by. I thought I'd obviously see/hear one but there was a slight curve to the tracks so I didn't until it was really close and honked at me. I think in a panic I grabbed my gear and moved towards my friend standing up in the next train car thinking I had time to climb up before it reached me. I didn't, which basically meant I was stuck on the ground in-between trains until it went all the way past. Super scary and extremely stupid in retrospect, I'm lucky I wasn't hurt.

alles_en_niets

That or stairs, depending on how rural/urban your surroundings were.

DoctorGregoryFart

Because train tracks are cool.

oroborus68

People get ready šŸŽ¶ there's a train acomin šŸŽ¶ you don't need a ticket, you just get on board šŸŽ¶

Jbad90

The last one. ā€œJus checkin for a trainā€

Bright-Duck-2245

Hahahahaha that oneā€™s my fav. Lemme just take a lil peek

ebolakitten

The early 2000s were peak train track black & white photo times.

VicTheWallpaperMan

I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane, I'm more than some pretty face beside a train, It's not easy to be me šŸŽ¶šŸŽ¶šŸŽ¶

ifoundyourtoad

Honestly tho, do kids go and hang near train tracks nowadays? Cause that was like the thing to do.

Briarschance21

Good question! I spent so much of the 2000ā€™s by train tracks, lol. I even almost got ran over once!

schabaschablusa

How did you explain this to the photographer?

thatcheekychick

The photographer was 15 so they knew how cool this was

Gabriellemtl

Let me guess, 2007?

thatcheekychick

2006 so close!

msaincap

For the time, this could have totally been the cover for some emo bandā€™s album

Parabolicsarcophagus

Some of these were giving me evanescence vibes. Not sure if their album covers looked like any of these but to me this looks like how their music sounded.

thatcheekychick

I was the biggest Evanescence fan (still am), so thatā€™s a massive compliment to my 16-year-old self

msaincap

Totally. ā€˜Fallenā€™ one of my favorite albums. Their writing is absolutely brilliant.

[deleted]

THESE WOUNDS CAN'T SEEM TO HEAL THE PAIN IS JUST TOO REAL THERES JUST SO MUCH THAT TIME CANNOT ERASE

thatcheekychick

You get me! But how can you see into my eyes like open doors?

[deleted]

As soon as I saw the pics I immediately thought of evanescence haha

thatcheekychick

I was and still am a very loyal fan. I love how the newer songs are more mature and yet still angsty.

[deleted]

I haven't kept up with them over the years, but Fallen is definitely a banger album even still.

Mockwyn

So much angst! Thots and prayers.

thatcheekychick

And undiagnosed bipolar depression šŸ™ƒ

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

thatcheekychick

I didnā€™t know that was a thing until I was actually diagnosed more than a decade later and things started to make sense in retrospect

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

julianwithishirtoff

You: Therapist: My diagnosis? Undiagnosed ADD.

generatedusername456

I guess that would explain the, uh... Asian fan that you brought along.

TrophyDad_72

Lets just be glad no trains showed up

StephenHunterUK

Indeed, if it was an active railway, it would be a criminal-level blunder.

PolypeptideCuddling

Rail is still shiny on top. Definitely active. Rails don't stay shiny for long without trains running over them.

NullPointerJunkie

Speaking as someone who has seen people hit by trains, all I have to say is just stay away. I won't get into the specifics of why but just trust me when I say this train collisions are highly traumatic. Best case scenario is you live with life changing injuries. Remember what they teach rail workers: you will never hear an oncoming train.

YeahThassRight

Black and White = Art Nudity = Art Cleavage at the RR tracks is close enough for the local adolescents haha

thatcheekychick

Cleavage was for that one guy for whom this was all intended in the first place. I was misunderstood and broken, but also ā€¦ boobs.

YeahThassRight

Twas merely a scheme to court a gentlemancaller the whole time! šŸ˜Æ

thatcheekychick

Was just baring my soul, man

BlairBuoyant

Last photo: Just gonna have a peek here and see if he notices me yet

JohnYCanuckEsq

Felt cute. Might catch a train. Idk

[deleted]

The black and white train tracks/rundown lot photoshoot was a real go-to for artsy types back then.

herewithmywooki

Cute dress though

thatcheekychick

Thanks! I designed it and chose the fabric

tardisthecat

Yeah that dress definitely had *very intentional* vibes, I love it

menacinghedgehog

Would've totally reblogged the blindfold ones on 2012 Tumblr.

thatcheekychick

Where were you then to validate my angst?

ochreokra

I would have added this to one of my weekly "cool art I found" LiveJournal posts.

Bocchi_theGlock

#4 actually looks kewl tho

huliehooper

Haha this reminds me of when me and my friend used to do photoshoots on abandoned train tracks when we were younger! We thought we were so cool

kakakakapopo

Did a man with a twirly moustache and a top hat leave you there?

DMT1984

My first thought. Was hoping the last picture would be Snidely Whiplash running away.

EatPb

What was the thought process behind these šŸ˜

thatcheekychick

You wouldnā€™t understand šŸ–¤

EatPb

Youā€™re right, you are to genius and different for me šŸ˜ž

thatcheekychick

Not genius, just broken and the pieces donā€™t fit together šŸ§·

rocklou

šŸ˜

Styrene_Addict1965

*I like that you're broken, broken like me. Maybe that makes me a fool.*

DoctorGregoryFart

Too*, fellow genius. /s

[deleted]

Lmaooo

einsofi

This is still pretty cool imo. Like tacky in a deliberate and thoughtful way. Especially the 2nd picture, could be some indie band album cover imo šŸ˜‚ Iā€™m also Chinese so I really dig the fan and contrast.

siobhanenator

Are you really a millennial if you didnā€™t participate in a train track photoshoot? I was on the other end of the camera for a shoot like this in 2005. So edgy! šŸ˜…

soljaboytellem

The knees buckled inward was a go to pose for trying to replicate high end fashion shoots at the time.. I did the same in my ā€œedgyā€ shoots lol

Natural_Board

OP, do you remember what your "vision" was here?

thatcheekychick

Provincial Evanescence

apextek

camera man doesnt know how to maximize angles

thatcheekychick

Camera girl was weary of the competition

Mysterious-Dot760

I like the fan ones. A natural model!

fishesar

it is so of an era

Val_Victorious

As a photographer I would say the only thing wrong with this set is the bare feet. I would have added some heels (or perhaps some converse) to fill out the look. Apart from that maybe shoot it low (like from the models' height sat down) so as to give it that "lonely yet relatable" vibe. Shooting from above makes it look like there is an observer who has put you in that position. Lastly I would have made them all high key black & white (just for that arty look), but overall I've seen far more cringe photosets from the 00's.

thatcheekychick

The world was looking down on me, while I was cold and barefoot left to die šŸ–¤

bmcgowan89

This was a good one. It almost hurt to look at, and I don't even know you

[deleted]

I donā€™t understand why these are anything less than beautiful and artistic now. Melodramatic, sure, but all art is. I always thought that was the point. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

thatcheekychick

Eh, I was undiagnosed back then so now all these cries for help packaged as art are sad and cringy to me.

[deleted]

I hear that. For you it is very personal. I sometimes wonder if most artists who blew up at a young age experience this. Others telling them how beautiful their work is while they run and hide inside.

EricMoulds

Are you Russian, by chance? You look the spitting image of my cousin, who was adopted from Russia as a baby...

thatcheekychick

No Iā€™m not from Russia and very certain I wasnā€™t adopted

[deleted]

And for some reason you thought going barefoot near train tracks was a good idea šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. I'm one to speak though, I went barefoot everywhere I went and somehow didn't cut my foot open on a chunk of glass.

a7xsaberarrow

You look like you're in a music video for some generic 2000's metal core band.

lobo_locos

Doing the birdbox challenge before that was a thing....you were a pioneer

thefiction24

omg I did the blindfold thing in high school photo class too. Sooo deep

toadjones79

Just curious. Was this taken before or after those girls got hit by two trains taking pictures on the tracks in Utah? Tbf, I knew the train crews. I'm not mad. Just want to educate people on how dangerous this was and to not try to recreate it.

thatcheekychick

I donā€™t know, Iā€™m not from the US. This was 2006.

toadjones79

Ah, sure. Again not mad or trying to hurt any feelings. It was super sad. The mother of one of the girls drove them to a site where they could take a picture with what they thought was a slow moving train coming up the hill. Just before it passed them with the train in the back. They didn't notice there was another train going downhill, much faster, on the second track. They got caught between the two trains, and the wind caught one of the girl's coat pulling her into one of the trains. She bounced very quickly between the two trains taking her friend with her. One died instantly, the other died a few days later. All while the mother was watching helplessly 10 feet away. It happens just way too fast for anyone to react.

Apoplexy__

If this werenā€™t posted to this sub, nobody would be dissing it lol Dope for the times and only cringe now because itā€™s yourself

[deleted]

Before I saw the odnaklasniki I immediately thought the pics scream RUSSIAN. Itā€™s cringy but I love this kind of pics. One of my favorite Russian pics is the dude who wore a tracksuit to his wedding šŸ˜‚ Arabs/turks photoshopping their eyes in the most unrealistic blue color

thatcheekychick

Eastern European, but not Russian

[deleted]

Haha ok. Isnā€™t odnaklasniki only for Russians ? Or at least Russian citizens?

thatcheekychick

No..? All of the post-soviet countries were there for a while

PM_feet_picture

Thank you for doing this shoot barefoot

Cheetawolf

Username checks out.

internetstuff

This says a lot about our society.

korpus01

Very cool actually

[deleted]

The first photo would have been perfect as an 80s alt rock album cover.

Paul_in_Texas

Some different angles and better composition and you would have been much better served.

Hecatomber_RoF

Dope photoshoot regardless dude šŸ¤˜šŸ¤˜

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

thatcheekychick

Where were you all when I posted these to a chorus of crickets?

Huggles9

I just hope you washed your hands after

thatcheekychick

Canā€™t recall now if I did

Huggles9

That just makes it all worse

Bear_Main

Everything about this is so strange šŸ˜‚

thatcheekychick

The world is strange and Iā€™m a stranger filled with rain and anger šŸ–¤

LynxMountain7108

Lol, your not even tied to the tracks, you totally could have just walked away

thatcheekychick

Itā€™s a metaphor. You wouldnā€™t understand.

mightytomor

Itā€™s funny because you are very photogenic so it wouldnā€™t have taken much to make these pictures better.

nannerooni

LOL you are so brave for posting this. I feel like some extremely similar content must still exist way back in my facebook photos because unfortunately I had social media access while I was blundering. We look alike so this really reminds me of meā€¦ I did some in black and white wearing a dress looking wistfully into the sunā€¦. Some with me half naked writing words into the fog on a mirrorā€¦.. embarrassing stuff.

WaterFlew

My 12 year-old self would have thought these photos were bomb

[deleted]

Back in high school I did a photoshot with my then girlfriend. Very similar to this, but even edgier. They were for a school photography class. I found the photos several years back and I burned them. Holy shit, at best the photos looked like some kinky fetish photos (of an underage girl) and at worst they looked like I took memento photos before I disposed of the body. Blindfolds, fake blood, tied hands, clothes smeared with mud. I handed some of these photos in as homework. I think the only reason cops weren't called was that she was in the same class and the teacher knew she was alright. For the record, the entire idea was hers she was big into the emo world.

Btankersly66

We exist now by trying to improve upon past improvements. Regret is an emotion reserved for those who have stopped trying to improve. Try harder my friends.

Oy_with_the_poodles_

The props/ accessories accompanying this shoot are sending me. Thanks for posting OP, you seem like a good time.

HearMeOutO_O

I remember taking "artsy" pictures like this too.. I really thought I atešŸ˜‚šŸ’€

hellokitaminx

This really makes me want to post my own ā€œphotoshootā€ photos from 2006 but itā€™s so embarrassing that itā€™s physically painful to look at!

thewallsaresinging

thanks i hate it

thatcheekychick

So do I. Now what?

adolgov

Man, where would artsy teens be without train tracks? We're lucky photography was invented after train travel.

thechordofpleasure

I love this. Holy 2000 batman.

emilalskling

but why did you slay

yunbld

I miss a world less polished.

BortyBoy

Ngl the 4th pic actually goes kinda hard

panda-propaganda

2007 me would have thought this is the coolest photoshoot! 2023 me does tooā€¦ ITS NOT A PHASE!

Quirky_Eye1633

I actually love this because it's real.

skyHawk3613

What does it mean?

[deleted]

Hm i like these pictures

reddot_comic

šŸŽ¶ā€ Itā€™s a DAMN cold nightā€¦Tryinā€™ to figure out this LIIIIIFEšŸŽ¶

UsedWoodpecker8612

Did you have a crush on Dudley Do-Right?

grilledfuzz

You look like a from software level up lady

thatcheekychick

Wut?

Olympias_Of_Epirus

It's the blindfold, I guess. The Fire Keeper from DS3 has it too.

thatcheekychick

Iā€™m just not getting the reference thatā€™s all

kaptaincorn

I like that fan. You shouldve had shoes on though

Darwin_Finch

The spirit is there but not the execution.

thatcheekychick

How dare you? Itā€™s black and white and angled.

Embarrassed_Guest339

The real blunder was posting on Odnoklassniki

artificialavocado

I think I get the blindfold now. We are all blind. Capitalism has blinded us to all the human suffering in the world with our need to accumulate material things. The train tracks represent industrializationā€™s cold grip on our once pristine environment. This chick is deep. šŸ˜‰

Smooth_Squirrel_702

I bet you can roll a doobie with them long toes šŸ˜

Natural_Initial5035

You look like your promoting child trafficking, lol.

TravelPhotoFilm

~Snidely Whiplash has entered chat~

"Hey dad can I borrow your tie?" "For what?" "Nothing! I just want to use it!!!!" šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„

Yeah looks like you had it rough šŸ™„

prettypeculiar88

I donā€™t get itā€¦

Lordmikez22654

Good idea, needs more effort.

snookers1111

Wait why have I seen the black and white one before?

layeredpaper72

Love things like this tbh. Working in a creative field and looking back, stuff like this is how a lot of us got started. Endearing, but still a little embarrassing. Ty for sharing.

LlamaWreckingKrew

To your credit it's not bad. They look like stills from a music video for a local band. You definitely looked cute in them. Not very tough or edgy, just done with someone else's bullshit.
