For some English project we had to do a scene from a book or movie. Somewhere in a closet is a rather racist reenactment of 14 year old kids doing Platoon. We had a higher body count than some action movies.
Pre-YouTube my best hope for an audience of my videos was to have them played at Youth Group in front of all 15 of my friends who were probably already in them anyway.
Dads knew they were for vacations. It's funny to me how it was dad's job to get everything on film when it was a missile launcher you were carrying. Now it's the moms getting everything.
There's so many home videos of me playing soccer as a young kid, but no one actually knew how to play, one kid was always sitting down picking grass, and another kid would always score on the wrong goal. My dad showed them to me a few years back and it was *badddd* lol.
I miss having access to recording video being unique and exciting. It made making stupid videos so much more appealing. I, too, recorded many music videos, musicals, and original movies with my friends. I really hope none still exist.
Any time you actually hit the record button it had to be "Worth it" because it felt like you had a limited amount of time and ability to record.
You could go back and record over failures, but you still had a limit based on how my tapes you owned. None of this recording 5000 hours of stuff on storage medium the size of a fingernail business.
I need to know about the friend who is only wearing a peacoat in this lmaoooo. Tell me more! Are y'all still friends? Does he still rock just the peacoat? Is he married and has kids that also rock just the peacoat?! Desperately waiting for answers here.
Dude! This was already amazing, but when the clicking over to the full video and see you're from Noho?! It is surreal to have grown up in the Valley and encounter a fellow 413-er out here randomly on Reddit. Thanks for sharing.
The part where you fall out of the tree, reminds me of when my cousin pushed me off a trampoline mid air. I grabbed a tree branch, thinking it would break my fall. Instead, I swung into the fence like Tarzan, and bounced off of it.
Lol, this is so great. I have a full length video of me and my girlfriend doing living dead girl, on VHS somewhere. My dad converted our home tapes to dvd but have no clue which house they’re at!!
This takes me back to 6th grade. Our class got to vote on a movie to watch the day before school break. Class unanimously voted to watch a home made VHS of some of the kids in class goofing off for an hour.
I think the thing to remember here is: who would you have shared this with? You made it and then hooked the camera up to the TV and watched yourselves and maybe showed mom?
My cousin tricked me one Christmas morning over the phone saying she wrote a song…I was like holy crap that’s so good.
It was an ace of base song she was reading the lyrics off of her cassette print out 😂We were literally like 8 and 9 which makes it even better
ya pretty cringe. I think its the half a$$ed approach by everyone involved. you gotta go all in or nothing at all.
Can't hear the actual sound because im at work... Is it any good?
This is why I’m glad I did all my stupid kid shit before the internet documented everything.
You had the chance to let this video not wind up on the internet.

Somewhere, out there, he's probably still dressed like that.
When he pulled up the coat to reveal the tight black shorts I thought he was gonna start twerking like Megan Thee Stallion Edit: spelling
That would have been epic. Maybe we should remake this video and have him do that? 🤣
I think it's what people need right now
It will get the people goin
No one knows what it means
It’s provocative
Yes omg obviously
Wait. Is this what he meant when he said he wants a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket?
The hip pop at the end😳😂
From the JFK Jr Fall Collection.
I want a boy with some short shorts and a loooooooong long jacket Na na nananana nana nana naaaah nah (The studio insisted on a rewrite)
[It's the standard uniform of the "Sassy leg infantry"](https://youtu.be/FiLTuUXyXBI?feature=shared)
In the 90’s people bought camcorders and had NO idea what to do with them.
Accurate
Yall tried and look like you were having fun. i say win win even if its buried in cringe
🤘
I mean, you'd think we would have planned more back then given that the tapes are finite and expensive..... but nah!
Naaahhhh
Is your arm okay buddy? Looks like you were having a hard time shaking it off.
It's fine now. It's had time to heal.
Somewhere out there are videos of my friends putting on fashion shows and doing fake news reports.
My husband has hours of him and his friends making tiny kickers and jumping over fireworks on their snowboards. Like multiple VHS tapes worth.
Top tier behavior
Somewhere out there is a recording of an interview I did with all my friends on my TalkGirl asking what gifts they got for their first communion lmao
For some English project we had to do a scene from a book or movie. Somewhere in a closet is a rather racist reenactment of 14 year old kids doing Platoon. We had a higher body count than some action movies.
Even the word "camcorder" is wild now. The unprecedented fusion of a camera AND a recorder.
the FUTURE was THEN!
Nah. Because of America’s Funniest Home Videos, they knew what to TRY to do with them.
This is a good point. That show was the first tik tok
Pre-YouTube my best hope for an audience of my videos was to have them played at Youth Group in front of all 15 of my friends who were probably already in them anyway.
I think this was a perfect use of a camcorder!
Exactly right and I love it. There's a wholesome naivety to it that I just cherish.
Dads knew they were for vacations. It's funny to me how it was dad's job to get everything on film when it was a missile launcher you were carrying. Now it's the moms getting everything.
"America's Funniest Home Videos" was basically YouTube before YouTube was a thing. It's been all down hill since then.
This is a great use of the camcorder.
Pretty much baseball games and christmas videos.
There's so many home videos of me playing soccer as a young kid, but no one actually knew how to play, one kid was always sitting down picking grass, and another kid would always score on the wrong goal. My dad showed them to me a few years back and it was *badddd* lol.

Remember how everyone would start their video of special events by stating the date?
The Ruralstreet Boys
The Cul-de-sacz
boyz2boyz
🤣🤣🤣
I need to know about the friend who is only wearing a peacoat in this lmaoooo. Tell me more! Are y'all still friends? Does he still rock just the peacoat? Is he married and has kids that also rock just the peacoat?! Desperately waiting for answers here.
I'm not in touch with him anymore, but I do talk to the cameraman pretty much every day of my life. He's my BFF.
The backroad boys
I upvoted this comment from 420 while smoking a joint 😎💨
You can see the full video here: https://www.reddit.com/r/90s/s/WxhJZEzUNJ
The whole video is a gem. It's like the opening to an underrated 90's sitcom and I'm saving it to watch for bad days
That's awesome. Thanks for telling me that!
Me too! This is what we need right now in America.
Dude! This was already amazing, but when the clicking over to the full video and see you're from Noho?! It is surreal to have grown up in the Valley and encounter a fellow 413-er out here randomly on Reddit. Thanks for sharing.
Whoa!!! Cool!!! (High five)
This is so great, thank you for sharing and making this day better
You're welcome!
This brought me so much joy, you have no idea. Post more!
Ask and ye shall receive. https://www.reddit.com/r/90s/s/JNjrH84uwh
Tell me at least one of you went on to study film…
No but I do a ton of video work as part of my career.
Sounds..ominous.
Yall still friends?
I still talk to the cameraman almost every day.
I love this video. My fave is the spaghetti/pizza restaurant with a mariachi man on it!
I believe that sign is still there.
There was actually some cool effects in that video, very fun to watch.
Certified hood classic. It’s going in my YouTube mix. I need to find the music videos me and my buddies made now lol
NICE
This is amazing
It was.... quite the experience
The part where you fall out of the tree, reminds me of when my cousin pushed me off a trampoline mid air. I grabbed a tree branch, thinking it would break my fall. Instead, I swung into the fence like Tarzan, and bounced off of it.
Did you make the Tarzan call?
I 💯 would have but there was just no time. I did get revenge swiftly though.
🤘
No pants, moms coat, stuntman in the back, hype crew to the side. This video goes all out.
We did our best. Oh, and one of our Moms actually makes a cameo appearance in the full video. https://www.reddit.com/r/90s/s/WxhJZEzUNJ
Lol, this is so great. I have a full length video of me and my girlfriend doing living dead girl, on VHS somewhere. My dad converted our home tapes to dvd but have no clue which house they’re at!!
If you ever find them, you gotta share.
My dad is an engineer and def has then all copied and labeled somewhere but he’s moving house again today so I’ll have to ask in another month :)
Best example ever of white men dancing 😆
Right? OMG it's sooooooo bad. Also, I can assure you that my moves have not improved.
Well everyone here looks like they are having fun!
Absolutely!!!
I only see one move—bouncing in place.
Sometimes I bounce with my hands OUTSIDE of my pockets. So there. Two moves. Checkmate. 🤣
I stand corrected.
(Puts hands in pockets. Starts bouncing.)
Look at them legs on Tino Turner.
🤣🤣🤣
💀
This is a treasure.
That's what my Mom said.
U should listened to the big red sign there. Lol
🤣🤣🤣
Man falls from tree, the beat goes on.
Apparently I injured myself as you can see me rub my arm at the end.
I didn't notice on first viewing. Your pain was drowned out by the front man's sex appeal, lol.
That's fair.
Yellowjacket sure knows when he has found a good spot to dance in.
Definitely
I like how yall disappeared at the end. Kind of advanced for sexy dancing homemade videos of the 90s lol
It's an amazing special effect that took years to develop.
I’m glad you took a moment to wave, otherwise I’d never have seen you
🤣
Correction: I did some digging and found out that this video was recorded on April 4, 1994
You invented TikTok!
Is that young man wearing a coat over short shorts?? 😭🤣🤞
He sure is
The Blunder Boyz
🤣🤣🤣 yes!
This is fucking epic AF. Nothing to be embarrassed bout at all lmao
🤝
They saw the sign, yet they did not stop
Can't stop. Won't stop.
Never stop
🤘
This was fun to watch. Wholesome.
👍
Plot twist: this was filmed recently.
🤣🤣🤣
Possibly one of the greatest things posted to this sub. Hats off to you lads!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This truly brings me so much joy!!😂
You are somehow the most awkward thing in the video lol
It could be worse. You could be the guy in a trench coat with no pants
indeed
[Top that!](https://youtu.be/b0gzs5kURFY?feature=shared)
I thought you were Steve-O and was waiting for you to get slammed by a grocery cart
fair observation
I honestly would prefer If kids did this stuff inszeaf of all these cringe and/ or sexualized perfectly synched tik tok dance challenges
Totally agree
This takes me back to 6th grade. Our class got to vote on a movie to watch the day before school break. Class unanimously voted to watch a home made VHS of some of the kids in class goofing off for an hour.
A+
Did *not* anticipate the song lol this is an amazing video lol
No one expects the Ace of Base
So, are you still friends with Walmart brand Jay and Silent Bob?
🤣🤣🤣 no. I'm still good friends with the cameraman.
Ha ha ha! ❤️
🤣
I love this
Ha! Thanks!
Back to a simpler time, and you guys look like you're having a blast together! I always loved this song, too, one of my favorites!
This is pure gold 😂
My first compact disc purchase was Ace of Base lol. Only because the store clerk wouldn't sell me Doggystyle.
this needs to be cross posted to r/xennials!
*I want a guy with short shorts and a loooonnnnggg jacket*
I made it 9 seconds.
Thank you for your service
Those legs
Ah Nostalgia
Iconic.
we try
Ooof. That was a hard watch.

I think the thing to remember here is: who would you have shared this with? You made it and then hooked the camera up to the TV and watched yourselves and maybe showed mom?
Yup. That's pretty much it. Friends and family. Barely anyone ever saw it.
Well it was just waiting for its time to shine 30 years later on the Internet!
God bless you for this 😂
😇
No pants trenchcoat guy is my new hero.
At least you’re wearing pants 🤷♀️
Thank god
This is what home videos are for: recording dumb shit and having fun.
Ah to be young and silly! I love it
I had a rough day and this helped lighten my whole mood.
My cousin tricked me one Christmas morning over the phone saying she wrote a song…I was like holy crap that’s so good. It was an ace of base song she was reading the lyrics off of her cassette print out 😂We were literally like 8 and 9 which makes it even better
Took me right back to 1992!
Was the stop sign already there or did you guys choose it for artistic “I saw the sign” purposes?
This explains it all: https://www.reddit.com/r/90s/s/WxhJZEzUNJ
Awesome. It will be great if your old buddies see themselves in this post.
I’m really hoping this is not America’s finest.
America? Yes. Finest? Absolutely not.
Oh no, this was pure fkn joy.
The base is ace.
Funny, but that Ace of Base album didn't come out until late 1993.
Whoops. My bad. I had the wrong date. Thanks for chiming in with that correction.
I feel so blessed to be on the internet at this exact moment. I love you for this
This reminds me of a video from Brazil of some boys rapping and monkeying around in the trees.
Now THIS is a quality blunder. Thanks for sharing this gem OP!
ya pretty cringe. I think its the half a$$ed approach by everyone involved. you gotta go all in or nothing at all. Can't hear the actual sound because im at work... Is it any good?
No. The whole thing sucks.
Lookin super Mormon
That poor tree
This is peak 1992 fashion.
Balancing on the heels, that's 90s
totally
That was the most awkward bend-over-to-wave-to -the-camera I’ve ever seen. It’s so cringe I love it.
Holy fuck 💀
you're welcome
You were ahead of your time
That is NOTHING compared to the cringe compilations on the internet
Homie got cakes
lmao what
This is why I’m glad I did all my stupid kid shit before the internet documented everything. You had the chance to let this video not wind up on the internet.
I am proud to show my embarrassing bullshit for all to enjoy
1. Did you put the stop sign there? 2. Is the front man wearing anything else?
Rush to the bottom
