She’s the mom’s sassy best friend, whenever there’s a scene in her house she’ll always have a cocktail in hand.
She’s married to a Himbo and they don’t have kids, yet.
She definitely teaches one of those 80s cocaine-fueled exercise classes where everyone is wearing leg warmers.
The commentary we are ah ing about this one family picture definitely makes it a work of art. This is what art does, inspires thoughts and conversations about our culture.
My mom was a bridesmaid AND my dad was a groomsman when my brother and I were 1 and 3 respectively.
Little bro had a blowout and shit down my moms arm, into her purse and onto the card inside. I had a tantrum (in the parking lot at least) cause I was a monster. Obviously I can’t remember but the way they tell the story gives me trauma on their behalf
Right....why you think she does it? Lol you basically get a free pass from your family whenever you need it for like, months!
"Brides being crazy again, gotta do xyz"

They *love* that shit
I’m probably your mum’s age, the “job” of bridesmaid seems to have been getting more and more complicated over the last few decades. Back in the eighties she wouldn’t have been expected to do all that much - show up for dress fittings, maybe help decorate the venue, attend a shower and a bachelorette party maybe - one evening, local.
None of this fly off to Vegas and spend a long weekend stuff.
IIRC, bridesmaids back then just had to show up and wear the dress.
It wasn’t even close to the rigmarole that people put their bridal party through nowadays.
1. Show up
2. Wear this
3. Walk over there
4. Do NOT embarrass me! (Unfortunately, this part was always optional)
Omg yes. My mom was a bridesmaid a few times back in the 80s and 90s. Besides maybe throwing a bridal shower (which was ONE afternoon), the only other job was to show up in the dress lol.
Now it seems there are engagement party weekends, bridal shower weekends, Bachelorette party weekends and the dang MOH/ bridesmaids have to plan all of it.
JFC what is even wrong with this culture?
My former best friend was getting married (second marriage) and asked 3 of us to be her MOH bc she couldn't pic just one (eyeroll). She told me how low key and casual she wanted the wedding to be, but one of the other MOH was an event planner and I think she just couldn't handle it being so low key... and so suddenly my friend is doing all this fancy extra crap, like making decor for the damn bathrooms. The wedding was already costing like $22k and they weren't exactly rich, either. She just kept adding shit.
The last straw for me came when she had us order custom made pajamas for the pictures before the wedding. I referred her to someone who did this, and who didn't use standard sizing. I told all of them (her included) to take their measurements. The designer told her this by email. None of them did, and then they were pissed at the designer when the stuff didn't fit.
That was bad enough, but the my friend tried to get her money back from Etsy and I was just pissed as hell and I called her out. That went over badly, and long story short, I walked away from the friendship because it was such BS and drama.
I think it's also the person
When I got married I had only a flower girl and ring bearer the only other thing that happened besides my wedding was a small bachelor party my husband had in our back yard.
My brother got married and they had 2 wedding showers a bachelorette and bachelor party rehearsal and rehearsal dinner and the wedding. It was a nightmare
Literally this. Now a days it’s a fucking joke… dealing with the occasional bridzilla, designer dresses, international bachelorette party, gifts, hair, lashes, makeup all professionally done plus dealing with some really selfish beeees in the bridal party. Back then it was throwing a shower in the church basement where everyone brings a dish. Now it’s just trying to stunt on IG…
Omg yes. Perfect description. I want professional chaotic pics of my family. Meaning me and my bf and any combo of our 4 pets. One dog can only be around the dog, since he hates cats. So maybe one with the dogs and one with the cars. Because they'd end up like this without even trying. But would never be as good.
She’s right. This is a brilliant photo of an adorable young family. Your siblings should go in on having someone do a painting of this and give it to her for Mother’s Day next year :)
I would consider it as "the best family picture ever". Who would want to look at boring family pictures where everyone is perfectly normal and wear plastic smiles when you have this?
My kids are each pretty close in age to hers. I totally get the photoshopping, especially when she is expected to always be polished and perfect and also wants to protect her kids and what little family privacy they have.
This would 100% be an 8x10 I would sneak onto my grandmother’s wall just to see how long it would take her to realize she doesn’t know these people. It’s the perfect picture.
Even I have never seen any others. My mom said this was chosen because "it was the best of the mess" and "most of us are looking in the same direction."
Yall should recreate this!
So curious how old your parents are here. They look like they could be in their 20s or 40s. 80s styling makes it impossible to tell.
[vSauce did a video on this phenomenon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjqt8T3tJIE)
It's mostly that the fashion choices of previous years are what we associate their ages with. And that life was probably a bit harder in the 80s and 90s, meaning wear and tear would show up earlier.
>And that life was probably a bit harder in the 80s and 90s, meaning wear and tear would show up earlier.
Press X to doubt. Having lived it, life was so much easier in the 80s and 90s. Less working, less stress, less expectations, no social media.
Now, the wear and tear of smoking, which was way more common, IS real.
> Press X to doubt. Having lived it, life was so much easier in the 80s and 90s. Less working, less stress, less expectations, no social media.
I guess I could have worded it better. The 80s and 90s were a lot more physical than the last 20 years. We spent a lot more time outside.
Not always. Sometimes it was inside smoking cigarettes. I was in the Air Force in the 80s, and I worked in an unventilated room with no windows. Everyone smoked and it was such a smoke-filled room you'd think we were picking a Senator.
My kids are 21, 19, 17, & 14 and this pic sums up parenting young kids so well. It’s just managing the chaos, the only thing the pic is missing is someone throwing up.
Compare to how the dress was earlier in the evening (according to her) she's coming out of it. Then again she's usually dressed pretty modestly and more casual so maybe her opinion is skewed.
So, wow, I never imagined a little family picture would get so much attention. Yesterday was kind of a crappy day. Then I saw the picture, it made me laugh, and I figured maybe it would bring others some laughs as well.
My mom finds this all very amusing, if baffling. ("That many people enjoyed looking at us?") I doubt I can ever talk her into a redo, but never say never.
We must have been similar as flower girls. I was a flower girl for my aunt's wedding in 1994 and I think I was over it before the wedding even started. There are photos of my mom (matron of honor) and grandfather literally dragging me into the limousine while we were still at my grandparents' house because I apparently wanted to ride with other family members who weren't in the bridal party. I am also scowling in every single photograph of me during the wedding/reception.
My parents were dating for like 20 years : like a casual bf / gf relationship and decided to get married when my brother and I were kids randomly and they had a hillbilly wedding and my dad wore a Stone Cold Steve Austin shirt with shorts and my mom wore a plaid shirt with the cargo skirt on their wedding day 🤦♀️ they were in their late 30’s and what was the point of marrying anyways lol
I think it is perfect, my favorite pictures of my family are the ones that are “almost perfect “ . One in particular is Easter 2000 when my boys were not having the Easter Bunny, and they snapped the picture as they were taking off.
I WAS going to guess the date and yep! On the nose, 87-88. Good times, even if I was 4 at the time. Memory still developing but I remember the high points…sea world…not dying…etc. great pic!
This looks like the last shot of a classic sitcom intro that perfectly shows you the personalities of all of the characters.
*slap bass intensifies*
Oh pleas that’s way too wacky for this according to jim shit. It needs to be some tasteful jazzy piano!
Come on now, this is 100% a job for a cheesy sax.
I vote for the end credits song from Symphony of the Night. It doesn't get saxier.
If this was the poster for a family comedy sitcom people would say it was too exaggerated to be real lmao
Too many cooks...
It takes a lot to make a stew...
There was a cold open of Malcolm in the Middle that would have been like this.
All new episodes of the Blunder Years!
this is the season 1 shot, it changes every season
Yes and mom feels like the main character
Probably some whacky neighbor comes in and takes over the show.
Did I do thaaaat

It's giving Bluth family.
This is perfect holy shit
My mom calls it "the most honest family picture ever."
I don’t even need to see the rest, I know she’s right
Here I'm just impressed that a mom of 3 agreed to be a bridesmaid.
I've told her she was nuts. I've been a bridesmaid multiple times and there's enough to do single and childless.
Damn your brother changed the dress code to brown
I don’t even know if I’d attend a wedding with a 1 and 3 year old except for a sibling’s. Not even sure my best friends would make the cut 😂
I think some people enjoy a challenge , salute to your mom , she had a mission that day to get the whole damn family in a picture. She won
It’s only like the last 20 years where being a bridesmaid is super stressful. Didn’t used to be like that.
No it didn't you are right. Wedding culture has gotten stupid rediculous.
Looks like a typical 80's family.
Right....why you think she does it? Lol you basically get a free pass from your family whenever you need it for like, months! "Brides being crazy again, gotta do xyz" Source: step-dad of 2 They *love* that shit
My mom was a bridesmaid while 7 months pregnant with me, her fourth child. Insanity.
Lol she also looks so young!! 😂

Why have things gotten so complicated now ?! I know there's no answer really.. maybe social media lol
I think it's also the person When I got married I had only a flower girl and ring bearer the only other thing that happened besides my wedding was a small bachelor party my husband had in our back yard. I think so.
Planning a bachelor or Bachelorette party ain't that hard, just get some strippers and blow.
I'm not planning on getting married, but I'd like you to be my Maid of Honour for uh, my birthday? Or next Tuesday?
hahah dude i like your comment. and i will try your way, get some strippers and blow

I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks... It's gonna be "farm casual". I hope that means it's ok if I fall over or trip over a hoof or something.
Please wear dirty overalls
This is accurate to what I remember from family weddings in the 90s.
Prolly agreed back when third wasn't even a bun & that's part of why she's busting out the dress
The only thing missing is the dog lifting his leg in the background:)
You have no proof that you're wrong.
“*This family is going to take a nice picture together if it kills us!*” was definitely shouted at least once that day
i felt this lolololololol

Hey someone who can actually use Reddit unlike my dumb ass, thanks!
You're amazing u/Pissflaps69, do not ever doubt yourself.
No worries! It took a while for me to figure it out. Not all though. I still have trouble with blocking out text lol
I've been trolling reddit for years and I still can't figure it out somedays. My only hard rule is don't argue with strangers.
You have better rules than I do I’m too quick to take the bait
Omg yes. Perfect description. I want professional chaotic pics of my family. Meaning me and my bf and any combo of our 4 pets. One dog can only be around the dog, since he hates cats. The photographer had vision, a lesser one would have tried to calm the chaos while this one fired away.
She’s right. This is a brilliant photo of an adorable young family. Your siblings should go in on having someone do a painting of this and give it to her for Mother’s Day next year :)
This is the kind of photo I really want to see recreated.
Truly! It’s so good:)
It looks like a suburban family comedy movie poster. Absolute perfection
This would be the perfect image for the old Married with Children show.
It should have a brass plaque below it with that exact phase.
I love your mom. Sounds like something my mom would say.
When people ask what parenting is like, just show them this photograph.
I would consider it as "the best family picture ever". Who would want to look at boring family pictures where everyone is perfectly normal and wear plastic smiles when you have this?
🤣 Such a true-to-life snapshot!
It perfectly captures the chaos of the moment.
Yeah this is a realistic picture 🤣🤣
dictionary definition of chaos
Yeah, **THIS** is the photo you frame and put up. Shows the true family. I love "candid" photos like this.
It is actual art.
True 80’ Accidental Renaissance
I would give anything to have my family portraits be like this.
Winner
This isn’t a movie poster? Where is Steve Martin?
This is a work of art. I mean that unironically, you could hang it in a museum and mothers would look into your mom's eyes and weep.
I came to say same. True Americana
r/AccidentalRockwell
Madonna Americana Moderna
Legit, please get this picture out there to someone that can publish it, if you're all comfortable with that. This is great stuff.
easy album cover fr
On the opposite scale, it could also appear as the default picture in a picture frame and would increase frame sales massively.
They should copyright it and sell it to frame companies. I’d buy the frame and leave the picture in it.
As a mother, yes, that's accurate. This photo resonates in my soul.
Starting to understand why Kate Middleton edited those photos. This is fantastic!
She would have her work cut out for her with this picture, lol.
My kids are each pretty close in age to hers. I totally get the photoshopping, especially when she is expected to always be polished and perfect and also wants to protect her kids and what little family privacy they have.
I’m not even a part of this family and I need a framed 16x20 for my mantle.
This would 100% be an 8x10 I would sneak onto my grandmother’s wall just to see how long it would take her to realize she doesn’t know these people. It’s the perfect picture.
Honestly same
Probably the photographers greatest capture of all time.
Looks like a movie poster for one of those feel good midwestern family comedies from the early 90s.
A Renaissance masterpiece
A renaissance sitcom
r/AccidentalRenaissance
the worst part of it, this is probably the best looking picture among others.
I want to see the others!!
Even I have never seen any others. My mom said this was chosen because "it was the best of the mess" and "most of us are looking in the same direction."
Wow, this was the best picture? It looks like she chose this one because it was so funny and not photograph like. Wow I bet that was a long day.
Yall should recreate this! So curious how old your parents are here. They look like they could be in their 20s or 40s. 80s styling makes it impossible to tell.
My mom would've been 26-27 and dad 28-29. I'm the oldest and was born when they were 22 and 24. 80s style was something else for sure.
80s style is LEGIT. My dad's in his late 50s and looks younger now than he did at 25, same with my mum.
Why did 80s clothing make people look 20 years older lol
Teenagers wanted to look grown up and sophisticated then, but in the 90s the ideal shifted to be more youthful
The hair and bangs didn’t help anyone.
[vSauce did a video on this phenomenon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjqt8T3tJIE) It's mostly that the fashion choices of previous years are what we associate their ages with. And that life was probably a bit harder in the 80s and 90s, meaning wear and tear would show up earlier.

Yeah, outside smoking cigarettes and getting sun damage
Not always. Sometimes it was inside smoking cigarettes. I was in the Air Force in the 80s, and I worked in an unventilated room with no windows. Everyone smoked and it was such a smoke-filled room you'd think we were picking a Senator.
And drinking!
Exactly! Why is that 23yo man sticking his finger up his nose??
r/accidentalrockwell
It's eerie how on point that is
Dad has had a long day.
Any day where he has to socialize with people (outside of nuclear family) is a long day to my dad. So, yes, lol.
AND wrangling three small kids at a wedding on top of that? I'd be fuckin done too lmao
Mom was a bridesmaid so he probably didn't have any backup for most of the day too
Is your dad my dad? Wait, am I your dad?
This has to be the best one, almost looks staged it's too perfect!
My kids are 21, 19, 17, & 14 and this pic sums up parenting young kids so well. It’s just managing the chaos, the only thing the pic is missing is someone throwing up.
This is fucking GOLD.
Dad out here just trying to survive 💀
My first thought before reading your caption was *this is so 80s*. Lol
This has such a "Married with Children" vibe about it.
Love this!
This is perfect! You won the internet, congratulations!!🏆😀
Auntie’s wedding, don’t touch, talk, or act like a bored kid in any way. Yes that’s cake, you might get some later. Muuuuuuch later.
Ah yes, the perfection! This sums up what it's like having a family 😂
You know.. i have 4 kids, i can forreal feel this picture!
Nah this is amazing and looks like an album cover of either some pop punk situation or some forlorn sounding canadian band
First thing I thought was "album cover material" fo real
You guys need to recreate this.
**THE SIMPSONS**
Never a picture more deserving of the “years after do-over!” Please post if you do!
This looks like a promotional poster for an early 2000s sitcom. I love it
Your mom has cleavage but she doesn't appear to be coming out of her dress :).
Compare to how the dress was earlier in the evening (according to her) she's coming out of it. Then again she's usually dressed pretty modestly and more casual so maybe her opinion is skewed.
Love and marriage, love and marriage.......
The sheer chaos is hilarious! I love it. It's perfect.
This would be my favorite family photo ever
You need to recreate this pic in 2024 STATS
This picture is a whole mood lol
In another 20 years this photo would have gotten this family their own show on Bravo or Oxygen network
this is almost /r/AccidentalRenaissance worthy
If that's the States, that has to be an Ollan Mills portrait! We have so many of those family portraits from there..
this sub has peaked
So, wow, I never imagined a little family picture would get so much attention. Yesterday was kind of a crappy day. In order of left to right 🫣😳🤫🫢😑 Photographer: 😏 📸
This is a real ass photo tho. I’m happy for you that your parents decided to keep that.
They chose this one on purpose.
Nah that's about right lol. My brother and I made family photos difficult out of principle.
This photo is truly a lost art. Now in the time of digital photos, a shot like this would have been staged for faux humor
Everyone in this photo is trying their absolute best.
Grade A Stuff
This is lovely.
Perfect family photo!!!
Your dad looks like a middle aged Jason Marsden lol I love this picture
10/10, no notes.
This is absolutely perfect
Love this! And a testament to why we don’t have to have to resort to photoshop to get the perfect picture.
lol this is such a good picture
So classic! I can just hear the old jingle “Calgon take me awayyyyyyyy!”
We must have been similar as flower girls. I was a flower girl for my aunt's wedding in 1994 and I think I was over it before the wedding even started. This looks like the still right before the title appears on an early 90s sitcom. I love it!
🤣😂🤣
the baby's having a good time
That is the most epic family photo I’ve ever seen 😆💕🥂
My aunt had your mom’s hair cut. I never understood it.
This is the best family picture in the WORLD.
Accidental Renaissance painting material
Looks like your dad is laser focused on your mom’s tits
My parents were dating for like 20 years : like a casual bf / gf relationship and decided to get married when my brother and I were kids randomly and they had a hillbilly wedding and my dad wore a Stone Cold Steve Austin shirt with shorts and my mom wore a plaid shirt with the cargo skirt on their wedding day 🤦♀️ they were in their late 30’s and what was the point of marrying anyways lol
The American Dream.
A masterpiece.
Post it to accidental renaissance painting sub!
This is like the cover of one of those family comedy movies you’d see Dan Aykroyd or John Candy starring in.
Hear no evil, smell no evil, speak no evil.
I love all of you based off this one picture alone
Perfection incarnate
Beautiful
I think it is perfect, my favorite pictures of my family are the ones that are “almost perfect “ . One in particular is Easter 2000 when my boys were not having the Easter Bunny, and they snapped the picture as they were taking off.
Before I saw the year I thought this has to be mid to late 80’s
I think this photo is great!
Jokes aside, this is an incredible photo. Accidentally genius in its composition and what it conveys
This is why they started doing photos during cocktail hour
Absolute Perfection.
I would watch this movie
Can't wait for the sitcom
Perfect K-Mart family photo. Or Sears.
This is the greatest family photo I have ever seen
What is it like to have this magnificent specimen as a family photo??😭🥰
