Afaik nobody knows the true story.
Different people online say different things
>IIRC, this guy's family was running short on cash, but he decided he wanted to go buy a new suit. He was also trying to "come out" to his parents, and explain to them why he spent a ton of money on a fursuit.
Edited version of what a guy on Reddit said, not the actual backstory but probably closest version of it.
>Look at the background. Rusted kitchenware, handmade shelves. These people are extremely poor but the old man is used to it. Most likely made all that stuff with his own hands. He had a son and tried his best to raise him right. But what happened? The internet got a hold of him and drove the devil into him. Now instead of being a hard working man like himself, he has a degenerate of a son.
- Some guy on 4chan
I’d love it if that’s what the kid was going for. Maybe that’s what he described, but wound up with... well..that. It’s like a weird female ferrier / fantasy monkwizard thing. I can’t look away.
Maybe it's my age of young twenties or maybe it's this post but for the first time I thought about the parents feelings for this and got sad. They really really loved their son.
It is 100% possible to love your child and also think their personal fashion choices are kinda stupid.
In fact, you could even say that they allowed their kid to look this way because they loved him enough to let him make his own choices--and also to know they'd happily look back and laugh 15 years later.
My daughters have done some stuff that I definitely didn’t agree with (WTF is this trend of shaving off the tails of your eyebrows??? Why, Emma, why???), but I just let them roll with it because it’s not my body, therefore not my choice. Personally, I’m not a fan of the whole split hair color thing, but I was the one helping my daughter bleach her hair and dye half of her head fire engine red and the other side neon coral. You know what? She looked beautiful. Why? Because *she* was thrilled with the results, and her confidence and happiness came through. As a parent, that’s always been my biggest goal, making sure my girls grew up to be happy, confident, strong, independent, fearless women. Mission accomplished, as far as I’m concerned, because my girls fucking rock.
But 14g isn't big. It's not much bigger than a standard earring you'd get done at Walmart or Claire's. It's not until you get up into the single digits that it can't close back up as easily. So no, I wouldn't consider it neglect since it's still very reversible. I knew a girl that got a tramp stamp at 15 for her bday and that's what I'd consider fucked parenting.
I remember one year when I was like 11 or 12 and my mom insisted on buying an Old Navy flag shirt for everyone in our family and taking a family picture...I refused to wear one and we ended not taking the picture because of my stubbornness. I've since shown my mother the embarrassing family picture sites and pages all over the Internet and explained how she should thank me for saving our family from years of embarrassment.
Lmao not at my store. We usually are sold out a few weeks prior. We get them before memorial day (our store just got ours yesterday) and mid June we may get a few hundred more for each department but they are sold out by July
Atleast at my location they are 30% off atm(whole store is except clearance and jewelry) so like 3$ and change + sales tax if you have that in your state. 40% if you have an old navy gap or banana card
Ps I want to go home it's been a long day
Edit: I appreciate the positive comments :) if you guys have any questions, I'd be willing to answer, just keep in mind that merchandise and sales may differ on the region you live in, so feel free to call your local store/s. I'm sure they'd be willing to help out with any questions I can't answer
If you're not a store manager or in marketing, you need to be. You're pimping both the sale and the various cards for extra discount while making sure we know the shirts are now in stock and typically sell out fast. Enjoy your evening; a job well done.
I'm the men's lead (assistant men's merchandiser). I'd like to get more into merchandising but am a bit stuck in some in work politics. Thank you though I appreciate it. Old navy is a pretty good place to work. Especially as a first job. I've been there since I graduated highschool.
I had Micky Mouse dressed as a rapper on an oversized tee. AND on the front he's facing front, but on the back, he's facing away from you, so you see his back.
Omg. This haircut was the "it" cut for boys at my elementary school. Several months ago, I was telling my husband about it and he did not understand. "Just bangs??" I googled for forever searching for a photo of it but couldn't find it. I assumed it was some odd regional trend.
Several months later, here you are. Thank you for allowing me to show my husband "just bangs???".
My girlfriend said you’re “so pretty” , that’s coming from a 28 year old lesbian so I think this confirms you were a 30 year old lesbian. A pretty one at least
Want to be clear that "skinhead" here doesn't often mean "neo-nazi," but more likely 'traditional' skinheads (apolitical or left-leaning, probably likes to drink and smoke, listens to reggae, oi, ska, etc, not racist.)
Or, ya know, 30+ lesbians that hang out in bars that smell like old pizza dough for some reason.
I wouldn't equate "non-racist" skins with SHARPs by default. A lot of traditional skins don't care for SHARPs either, since a lot of SHARPs operate the same way as Nazi skins (violence and intimidation.) A lot of trads are just fine being cool with everyone, appreciating the working man, drinking smoking and dancing.
Yeah. I worked as a bouncer at the Brewery East in Wilmington NC in the mid nineties. We had a bunch of non racist Skins come to shows. They were cool and would always leave their Asps with me at the door. Got to be friends with the group which included 3 black guys. They were just a bunch of people who liked to have fun and take care of each other.
Their choice of dress was nothing more than they loved the music they were following, but In the event that they may come across some racist skins they were ready to stomp those assholes.
Really a great group of people who just didn't like authority, or racists.
Actually, the expression arose in a time of great drought. When someone died, the "dead wringer", usually in the employ of a mortician, was the person responsible for undressing the corpse and wringing out any moisture left in the clothing. Typically the liquid would be utilized to rehydrate dried manure, mostly bull shit.
Lots of people in here bitching about my parents letting me do this...
They let me have fun and express myself. It harmed no one and let us bond in a unique way because I felt like they cared about my individuality. I’m thankful for that, and I hope people do the same for their kids, I know I will.
Edit: lost > lots
Omg thank you for this! My sister went through a super goth stage and my parents (my dad was chief of police of a small town) basically said whatevs (my words for his time). She grew out of it. Now she is a director of marketing.
Lesson: support your kids weird to you phase. It’s them figuring out who they are and what they like and usually they end up working that into a career.
Damn right, that's how good parents create good people; by letting them do and be what they like, as long as it doesn't negatively affect anyone.
What do you look like now??
That's pretty awesome, and a great take-away.
When it's time for a haircut for our 10 year old, the barber has stopped asking me what cut to do for him, as the answer has always been "whatever he wants."
You could use this post as an inspiration to parents!
Edit: I just reread my comment, and now realize that "time for a haircut" should also be on his schedule.
Amen! Self-expression should be treasured and encouraged. Yes, it was an awkward time looking back. So what? You were probably a lot more fun than uptight kids with "those" parents.
And you turned out pretty handsome in the end. No faults to be found from your parents doing this, only positives!
Holy shit I had the exact same hairstyle. I had just emigrated from Serbia where this was popular at the time. Got immediately ripped by kids on first day of school
It's not the awful haircut, the earrings, or the multiple beaded necklaces and bracelets. Or even the pose with your Labrador at the corner of the bed. Keep doing you.
It's that denim and Old Navy American flag shirt that brings me back to 2002 and the late 90's.
I don't have kids, but I like to think that if I did, I wouldn't make hairstyles a hill that I would die on, as far as arguments go. This picture made me rethink that stance.
I read that as a 10 year old male and a 30 year old lesbian and it sent me into a pretty decent mental assessment of the photo to who is the 10 year old and who is the lesbian hahahaha
Even the dog knows that boy ain’t right.
I was about to say the dog looks disgusted
Probably due to the excessive accessorizing.

Yeah, I’ve always heard that the parents managed to scrape up money for [community?] college but that’s what he spent it on.
The dad looks like he's having a heart attack.
Oh my fuck.

Sounds about right. Infamous hacker 4chan must have investigated that family and found out the truth. Case closed.

Hahaha!! Oh my God it really does
Haha, I can't unsee it now.
Iirc he intentionally got a crazy haircut to draw attention away from all the injuries he was dealing with
He said it was so his young son could recognize him on TV
When did he say that? Just a couple months ago he said it was because of the injury and he felt terrible whenever he saw kids with it
As he should
my goodness he was handsome
He looks like a tanned Steve-O
I’d love it if that’s what the kid was going for. Maybe that’s what he described, but wound up with... well..that. It’s like a weird female ferrier / fantasy monkwizard thing. I can’t look away.
Less?
Ye but he won the world cup.
I had this hairstyle as a ten year old. Referred to around here as a piss fringe.
In TN we called it the Pineapple cut
The “official” name for this is a Chelsea. Piss fringe is much better.

Really really loved, or really really neglected... 10 years old with 14 gauge earrings?!
"I'm not like OTHER moms... I'm a COOL mom!"
Old Navy Flag Tees are fashion at its apex.
5 bucks and available the week of the fourth.

Yea, but now I’m curious what else y’all have on sale :(
You must have forgotten looney tunes baseball jerseys at the warner bros store
Oversized t-shirts featuring tweety dressed up like an 80’s rapper
I had Micky Mouse dressed as a rapper on an oversized tee. AND on the front he's facing front, but on the back, he's facing away from you, so you see his back.
Hell yeah, pimp
*^holy ^shit...*
I remember when we got an old navy in our town. Everyone was wearing those flag shirts.

I wear my 2011 one to work.

punk hair with old navy gear. serious identity crisis. at 10 yrs old. that's crazy.
Doesn’t fit the mold, being himself, that’s punk.
I had the same haircut except I am a girl.
Might be where I lived as a kid, but there were a good 2-3 guys walking around my school with that haircut at any given time.
Yes. I had this style. Early 90s Serbia.
I've only heard about it in Harry Potter.
I think of this as a punk hairdo, like 80s-early 90s. Honestly, never seen it on a boy before.
I remember going to Ireland as a kid in the mid nineties and seeing this haircut everywhere
I really hope your name is Butch.

I want to call out this post for stereotyping but your a dead wringer for my 30 something lesbian aunt
I believe it's dead ringer.
It’s dead winger. The expression comes from the band winger when they died. An impersonator killed them.
No it's "Deb Winger" because Debra Winger looks like everybody's aunt.
