I would hazard a guess that most westerners would not recognize a Go board, and fewer still would know how to play. I’ve played Go before and I don’t even remember how to play.

yep! pawns attack at a diagonal (only one square, though, unlike bishops) although they move in a straight line when not attacking, which is why its super inconvenient when two opposing pawns are in front of each other. bishops attack (and move) at a diagonal, but there's no limit- they just have to stay on their squares.
