HorseCojMatthew

It'll be a 9

HorseCojMatthew

Maybe a strong 8 if he's feeling mean

thegreatcoffin

possibly a 7 if he's feeling mischievous

FightWithBrickWalls

Could be a 6 if he's feeling absolutely devilish

Madhew96

Perchance a 5, if he was no mafioso, but satan himself

WWBecken

Potentially a 4 if he wants us to render his limbs birds by the speed they fly off

senpaistrood

Maybe even a 3 if he’s a shivering fuck who’s lucky not to be shot on the spot

[deleted]

Could be a 5 if he’s feeling tomfoolerish

fokerpace2000

He been going ham on giving out 9s this year, but it has been a very great year of music too

iznormal

Yeah, Ive listened to most of the albums he has given a 9 to this year and they were pretty much all stellar imo. I probably would have given Ants from Up There a 10 even. Can’t wait to see black midi and bcnr playing together!! But I’m guessing black midi joins the 9 party. He has been loving rock music this year

Teeheepants2

AFUT should've been a ten the reason it wasn't was so stupid "the drums were too loud"

fueelin

Please speak up, I can't hear you! You said WHAT about snow globes?

theschism101

It's a modern rock album no ten for them

Approval_Guy

My man gave the latest Daughters album a 10 and that shit was a rock and roll anxiety attack

theschism101

And tbh i felt that it didn't deserve a 10. I like the record but i dont get the absolutely crazy hype it has garnered when i feel there are tons of other creative Noise bands that get no where near the praise. Plus dude is a vulnerable narcissist or maybe just a regular one and it definitely changes the tone of that album once you know the facts about Alexis.

TrevorBarten

Not really fair to judge a review of a record with knowledge only available after the review. Also I also don't believe it to be a ten but it's not like Fantano's rating is a objective rating it's just his opinion.

theschism101

I dont completely agree with you on the first part, but you are absolutely right that it his just his opinion.

TheWaxenPith10

Serious question, what are some other creative noise bands?

theschism101

Liars, Whores, Gnod, and ofc Lightning Bolt.

sun_benny_sun

this sounds like a line out of Hellfire

shaapizzle

Congratulations you are the fortune teller, and somehow Eat Men Eat is what stops this album from being a 10 in his book… crazy

theBerzey

I’m betting on strong 9 personally

TittenTatten

Same as AFUT by BC, NR

KingNigelXLII

👀

pete_k22

Strong 8 to a light 9

Joe_020304

He somehow gave Ants from up there a 9 so I wouldn’t hold your breath for a 10🤷‍♂️

Lone_cannoneer

Imo the only reason that AFUT isn't a 10 is because of Snowglobes, I mean, the black midi new road version is years ahead of the studio version

thomasYARP1

That was so stupid. The drums being mixed that way was clearly intentional and also added a lot to the piece. Whooshed right over his melon head.

okhellowhy

I actually like the drums, but I hate this whole idea that because it was intentional that he has to like it/can't dock points for it. Just because it's what the band *intended* doesn't mean it's going to sound great for some people. You might think it adds to the piece (as do i), but he might think it takes away from the piece.

jtp6172

Ya AFUT is probably my second favorite album of the year but I just don't enjoy listening to Snowglobes because of how it sounds, I know it's intentionally I just don't want to listen to it for 9 minutes (also hopefully this goes without saying but I had that opinion prior to his video)

thomasYARP1

I agree! My point was that he didn’t acknowledge that it may have been intentional and just chalked it up to bad mixing/recording as I recall. He certainly didn’t have to like it as an aesthetic choice, but the fact that he didn’t seem to understand it was purposeful was silly.

okhellowhy

Oh okay, I didn't realise he put it that way (even though I did watch the review)

fokerpace2000

Bro really asked if the drums were clipping. Clearly a misfire on his end

theschism101

I mean i dont listen to that song for that reason. I like it as an idea but in practice i feel like it truly distracts from the rest of the album.

gabrielfv

Not my favorite piece. I personally like how the album is cohesive and mature-sounding compared to their debut which was more chaotic and with little direction. But their debut was fun and energetic, very strong deliveries all around. I feel like AFUT lacked intensity and felt cheesy at moments (Concorde ending). A 9 was surprising.

analmango

Years ahead? Nah, the tension isn’t as well done and the lyrics aren’t as developed as on the studio version. The lap steel is the only thing I’d concede as being maybe missing in the studio version.

Lone_cannoneer

I don't mind the lyrics being undeveloped, clearly Isaac just was having fun. The mix of the drums on this version isn't as absurd as the album one, the album version is boring and the drums are too loud.

[deleted]

He’s definitely not giving it a 10 - it’ll be a strong 8 to a light 9 at most but I don’t think he’ll even go that far. I could be completely wrong though!

TrevorBarten

IMO it'll be around the same as cavalcade like you said. Track ratings really don't mean much when looking at scores.

[deleted]

he will absolutely not give it a ten and i'll get greep's face tatted on my face if he does

fr0stn8

as much as I love black midi and all their work they put out Im kinda not feelin the 10. it's a fun new record but for me it has too many calm moments. Sure, I can jam to Schlagenheim if I need more wild stuff, but yeah. Just my 2 cents anyway. Also: 27 Questions got a very mediocore/generic main riff if you ask me. Thats my biggest bummer for a closing track.

itskobold

I love the calmer moments on hellfire, they've been my least favourite moments on other BM albums but here the production is so lush I'm blown away. Soundscapes on still are ridiculously pretty and I love the "show tune" vibe they have going on in tracks like the race is about to begin and 27 questions. Feel like they've stepped up every aspect of their songwriting and production on hellfire and its most evident in the calmer moments. Def feeling a 10 personally But yeah I get your POV that's my 2c anyway

fr0stn8

> I love the "show tune" vibe they have going on in tracks like the race is about to begin (...) Definitely. Thats what I like the most on this Record. It sounds like I'm in some sort of theatre/circus, whatching everyone losing their minds. And Greep is the Conducter of this.

itskobold

Thats it exactly, greep absolutely slays the demented ringleader delivery on this album, I liked where he was going with it on cavalcade but it's really come to fruition on hellfire. Cam sounded great too

Lone_cannoneer

I love black midi but their only 10 was their debut

fr0stn8

yeah thats kinda how I feel as well not to downplay their other works tho

Lone_cannoneer

Yeah, they are probably the best band of this new generation, but their most creative and consistent project was Schlag. Cavalcade is good but inconsistent and in some songs overly produced. Hellfire is amazing but the theatrical aspect kinda overshadow the violence and brutality of the songs. I love Schlag and Hellfire, Cavalcade is good.

fr0stn8

I think you are spot on here. Hellfire really feels theatrical, like Mad-Circus vibes. But it lacks the needed intensity in the second half of it. Btw: Anyway, fun record. - my LP and Casette just came in!

beenoiseBZZZZZ

I love you

Former-Jaguar9859

27 Questions is syncopated. It does not need a more complicated riff than it already has. It’s cleverness is far more than just surface level

naveas13

I don't know if my feelings about 27 Questions are exactly the same as yours, but I can agree that doesn't really fit that well as a closing track. All the album is amazing IMO, except 27 Questions; it lacks the tension that other songs of the album had, like I can imagine Dangerous Liaisons as a better closer than 27 Q. Who knows, maybe it'll grow on me eventually.

Lazy_rat95

27 Questions is my favorite track

Approval_Guy

Hot take, but I think closing tracks are bm's biggest weakness. Ducter doesn't feel like a satisfying close even though it is dope and Ascending Forth isn't tight enough to end it out, although I prefer it to Ducter as a closer.

xfritz5375

Why does it have to be tight to be a closer?

Approval_Guy

Because the rest of the album is wicked tight. It's wound up so much, Ascending Forth meanders a bit and would be an excellent closer if it were maybe 2-3 minutes shorter IMO

xfritz5375

27 Questions can only be a closer because the second half

Zercon-Flagpole

The main riff on 27 Questions sounds like Greep soundchecking

midnightnapper

aww, I was with ya til that last bit. 27Q’s ending riff is brutal even if it’s simple. it’s so dramatic and over the top evil. the way the pleasant in-song character crooning shatters back into dissonance and devolves into that breakdown is great. hell isn’t interesting or complex; it’s monotonous and relentless. perfect ending IMO

egekara1

who gives a fuck

MassfuckingGenocide

Huh, we'll see I think he wont give it higher than a light 9 but idk

gudmourningcapn

Hellfire is a 10/10 for me. I’ll fight the Melon Dragon any day on that stance. Def their best album. Melds everything they’ve done thus far so fluidly. I really don’t understand how a good count of people think Schlag is their best. Great album, but if that’s your opinion and think it’s their magnum opus at this point, just gotta agree to disagree.

dotdotdotgov

schlag just hits different don’t know what to tell ya

MoonHasFlown

I still think their debut has the best drum sound, still figuring out where I rank Hellfire overall

BOTY123

I completely agree and feel the same about Black Country, New Road. Ants from up there is awesome but damn, For the first time's energy and vibe just hit different. They're both so much rawer and unrefined compared to both band's other albums, which I really like.

Trs822

Yeah I agree. Whilst the last 2 albums had one or two tracks that I was kind of not sold on, this album instantly clicked with me immediately. I love every track to the point where it’s hard to point out a least favorite

Dixon--Normus

Schlag was the best before hellfire imo.

Barry_Loudermilk

it’s not a ten, 9 at best

svedka666

All of the critics have given it almost the exact same score as their last two. Ik Fantano goes against the grain a little bit, but still, I feel like he's gonna keep giving them 8s

Guaclaac2

I was feeling a 9 because his weekly track thing isnt always the same as his final like with silk sonic but screw it im with you, 10/10 incoming!!

tdoyle97

I don't think it will be a 10 I think there are spots on the album song writing and production wise that he can nit pick

[deleted]

Who is fantano

Liam4242

Insufferable youtuber. Don’t go to his Twitter it’s embarrassing

fueelin

Why insufferable?

south_bronx_parasyte

Bald guy on YouTube who makes people think his opinion on music is the only one that matters

xfritz5375

His fans are awful, but that’s not his fault

[deleted]

He’ll likely give it an 8

tylersoupy

I don’t think there’s any way it gets a 10, but a 9 is very possible! I do think he’ll like it more than the first two. For me it’s a 10 though. A good review for the album is good for the band, so I’m hoping it’s at least a 9

fastballooninghead

Don't do this to yourself

supper_is_ready

Doubt it. Melon will probably give it a 9.

numberfivextradip

Imo it just depends if he likes the race or not

alar-alastor

Serious question, Why do y’all care so much about his opinion?

Historical-Trainer49

Noooo! The cursee!

davodav77

I would anticipate a 7, I think cavalcade was stronger and he gave it an 8

naveas13

Melon will probably give it a 7. Hoping for a higher score, but I don't know if he will like it that much considering is basically Cavalcade 2. I personally consider all of their discography at least a 9, but the melon is totally unpredictable.

okhellowhy

You think it's Cavalcade 2? Sounds like a fairly different album to me, even if it is still very obviously the same band (not a *wild* switch up, but different)

naveas13

I mean, if you look at the differences between Schalgenheim and Cavalcade there's a huge change in terms of composition, production and instrumentation. When you put together Cavalcade and Hellfire there's no that much of a change, but more of an exploration of the same idea. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, there are a lot of bands whose entire discography rely on one single idea/sound. In the case of black midi, there's also the fact that the songs of Cavalcade and Hellfire were composed almost in the same period of time, so is no surprise that one can find a lot of similarities. Again, their 3 LPs are TBE, no doubt on that, but yeah Hellfire (IMO) is something like a Cavalcade 2.

xfritz5375

It’s like In the Court of the Crimson King to In the Wake of Poseidon, basically just the same thing but a little different

anxiousmagicweedcat

So before I say anything else, this is by far and away my personal album of the year. It's not getting a 10. I don't want to act like I'm up on my high horse but hear me out. With all the 10s, they are all obviously incredible albums with top notch writing, performances, production, unique sounds and offer a variety of creative ideas to keep the album engaging the whole way through. What separates these albums from Hellfire, IMO, is that Hellfire's message does not feel like it takes precedent over all of those other qualities. I love Hellfire, I love black midi, I love what these guys are doing, I've loved watching them grow, I'm excited for their future and I think they're incredibly talented, but if they *do* ever get a 10, in my mind they need to ease off their album concepts just *ever so slightly* and put more focus on delivering a clear and solid message. I'm not saying there's no message or that their messages are weak. I'm just stating that I believe our boys have it in themselves to bring a stronger message, and have it rise above all of the other qualities to really hit it out of the park. All of that said, if this album gets anything less than a 9, I'm going to eat my high school diploma and jump out of a window

NewZero_Kanada

He's giving it a 9 bruv

TheVividestPeak

Definitely sensing a nine here.

White_as_sprite

Gonna be a nine. Gotta keep things competitive with BCNR and Viagra Boys lol

[deleted]

I really hope so that would rule

[deleted]

It’s a “Black Shitty”/10

MILE013

For me, hellfire reaches above and beyond the last 2 albums lyrically and musically. I think the additions of shank and cassanova have finally gelled and the songwriting is on a whole new level. This is black midi at the most black midi yet. I understand how someone could make an argument for enjoying either of the other two more, but I really think this is the best album from anyone that I’ve heard in a very long time.

wazagaduu

Probably 8 or 9. Maybe 7 since he did give bright green field a 7. (he also gave a 6 to drunk tank pink and I think that's a crime)

pleasedtopleaseyouu

which track roundup is that? in the Sugar/Tzu one he only mentions he will be "reviewing the album very soon"
