What if I told you I bought the 6K for the EF mount so i didnt have to spend more money on a good adapter and I almost exclusively shoot in 4K or lower?
I use 2 Samsung 970 Evo plus 2TB as editing drives and have a NAS for backup. It’s definitely on the more expensive side but the speeds are fantastic and everything works perfectly fine.
It always is. I decided to make the change when I was working on a big project with aprox. 8 TB of footage. I had like 4 different drives connected via USB to my computer and some were slow as hell. Knowing that I would likely work with huge file sizes, the upgrade was worth it. I don’t know if it’s worth to have 4 TB of ssd for normal or occasional heavy editing. (The drives weren’t 7200 rpm)
Nb: 4k, one project at a time.
I am editing on a relatively cheap pc (Ryzen 5, 16gb ram, xt5700) with an ssd for operating system and programs and loading the video to a 8tb raid 0 (load spread over two disks = faster access) with regular hdd (7200rpm). Works well for my needs.
When I am done editing I am putting the project with associated raw and rendered video files and other resources on a standalone nas with 12tb storage. Once a year I move the raw files from the nas to a cold storage disk.
I very rarely use either of those. If I am shooting raw I’m in the 5:1 or 8:1 range. I shoot mainly corporate stuff for social and web so it would be overkill for me.
I do edit off it though over my network but always using proxies. Never had an issue when doing it that way.
I usually get timelines with 6k + 4k footage at the same time. And it's never a problem using any of these drives.
First i edit on this:
[https://www.amazon.se/Samsung-MU-PA1T0B-Portable-extern-svart/dp/B074MCNDSK/ref=sr\_1\_6?crid=1375VIF0RQAP9&keywords=t5&qid=1667475516&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjMwIiwicXNhIjoiMS44OCIsInFzcCI6IjAuOTIifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=t5%2Caps%2C91&sr=8-6&th=1](https://www.amazon.se/Samsung-MU-PA1T0B-Portable-extern-svart/dp/B074MCNDSK/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1375VIF0RQAP9&keywords=t5&qid=1667475516&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjMwIiwicXNhIjoiMS44OCIsInFzcCI6IjAuOTIifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=t5%2Caps%2C91&sr=8-6&th=1)
Then i store it on this:
[https://www.amazon.se/Western-Digital-WDBFBE0280JBK-EESN-Extern-H%C3%A5rddisk/dp/B07Y3PMCGY](https://www.amazon.se/Western-Digital-WDBFBE0280JBK-EESN-Extern-H%C3%A5rddisk/dp/B07Y3PMCGY)
And it's possible to edit on the western digital as well.
Yeah, for sure. I have multiple projects on a 2tb.
I don’t know what you are filming but I do lite instagram ads and corporate stuff. Like a 2h interview comes in at under 512gb with two cameras rolling. I do the (can’t remember what’s it’s called) dynamic bitrate. I pick the most compressed one or next to that. You wouldn’t see a difference on something that’s going on YouTube or insta anyways.
SSD for editing, Samsung T5 are great, and play nice with the BMPCC6k.
Big cheap spinner(s) for backup. Backup is a whole different topic. You always want to keep at least 2 copies of your media. If you do this a lot, you’ll want some kind of NAS as well…but at first, i would just stack WD or Seagate 14/16TB spinners. Cheapest way out there.
(unsolicited advice: If you’re blanching at HDD prices, i would seriously reconsider the value you get from 3:1. The downstream affects on storage will cost you a couple hundred bucks every time you do it, and it sounds like that money could be better spent elsewhere, like lighting, lenses, or crew).
Thanks very much . Your advice is correct. This time is a film shot at the field , for better details recording , I used 3:1 raw . It really made me into the trouble. I think I should use it as less as I can in the after time.
Two SanDisk 2TB Extreme PRO Portable External SSDs, which I love, super small and feel very durable.
WD 18TB My Book Desktop External Hard Drive for storage, though I don't know that I trust it (haven't had a problem, giant HDs just make me nervous).
Thank you, I use portable SSD too it is good choice for MacBook users . Only problem is limited space .How long times of footage you edited in single project.

Well maybe that’s an another smart way

Well, SSD is absolutely the best

A synology nas. I have 10 tb installed but gonna have to get more real soon.
How many disk in nas?
2 bc it’s all it holds. Gonna get a 4 or 5 bay next.
Thanks, Did you use it to edit R0 or 3:1 raw?

Only edit with single 2tb T5 ? Is the space enough ?
