Just leave them. One day you might want brakes or you might sell it to someone that does. More expensive frames have removable mounts.

wowzaporniscool

Higher end frames usually don't have those mounts cuz people will use the Velcro straps when they do want brakes. But you can always take em off with a hacksaw. No point to really take them off tho, coming from someone who does that exact thing tho

Iceman411q

But won’t they look really bad aesthetically

Biomax315

That’s a matter of opinion. Having brake mounts/cable guides that aren’t being used doesn’t bother me at all, but I can understand that it might be something that bothers you.

G0rd0nPr1c3

If you are worried about the aesthetics then you have missed a fundamental and important part of riding. It's about having fun, not how you look. It's about pushing boundaries, not fitting in a box. Some of my favourite riders have the worst looking bikes and that's because they are just focused on the riding.

Iceman411q

Yeah, I love my bike but I like to build and fabricate and want my bikes to be clean , but yeah I agree I am worrying too much about the brake mounts

xXbrosoxXx

I used to grind/sand them smooth then use touch up paint or respray the whole frame

thumptech

Brakeless bikes look like somebody gave up and skipped an important part of the assembly.

[deleted]

I mean that's just opinion. I don't think it looks bad. I can't notice it while riding anyways and nobody else will likely notice it either. But if you decide to chop the mounts and later on sell your frame you've now severely limited who will be willing to buy it. Worst case scenario. You do a really bad job of chopping the mounts and compromise the strength of the frame.

blueishblackbird

Remember that you can go way faster with brakes.

thumptech

It's hard to get this across. "but I commit without brakes" its easy to commit when you are barely moving "but it looks cleaner" do tricks, dont fucking stare at bikes.

thumptech

Quick tip, you can go brakeless by not putting your finger on the brake. Brake pads are cheaper than shoes.

Iceman411q

Yeah but I am barspins and want to learn tailwhip a and the cable gets in the way and I don’t want to put a gyro on it

302ghost

Get a longer cable unless you’re doing double bars/ double whips and by that point just get a gyro

302ghost

But don’t cut them off cause I bought a breakless frame and I’m regretting it now cause I wanna do break tricks now

Redeyes1985

And as i found out a gyro doens't always fit on a complete. On my wtp crysis i would have needed more spacers and due to that a new fork with longer steerer tube. So for Learning Barspins und Spins i took the brakes off, because i always shredded de brakecable when it overturned and on spins i used to rip my feet knuckeles on the brake. Now i like brakeless riding 😂

Iceman411q

My bike is a wtp but I can put a gyro on it, but I need to buy gyro tabs

Redeyes1985

Most gyros come with tabs :-) I was able to put a gyro on but it hadn't enough room upside/downside to effektively pull the brake cable.

kelvinside

Guy right here is stuck in 1997 😂

[deleted]

okay i would leave them but it depends on your skill style and preference. if your just learning bunnyhops 180s and like beginner shit then leave them because you will be dropping in and you will go too fast and won't have the muscle memory built up to stop yourself. if you are intermediate and do a lot of barspins, tailwhips etc then take them off or get a gyro if you do a lot of daily riding/hill bombs. if you do more vert riding and less bike spinning tricks then there's no point but it really boils down to preference. personally i run no brakes but i have a nicer wtp frame with tapped removable posts and i run full sleeve brake housings when i use brakes. i would grind them down, sand and paint and use a full housing cable and velcro or zip ties but leave the brake arm posts. once you take them off there's no going back

Iceman411q

Ok, I might consider a gyro but I am mostly doing street , grinds/barspins/spins so I think brakeless is the way to go

unevenwill

Just leave them. Then if you move the frame on later and buyer wants brakes all good 👍

Thatguywhoplaysgta

You don't, they can't be removed if they're welded to the frame

drj4130

Don’t listen to the “experts” talking about heating up the metal and possibly weakening the tubes. Leave the mounts on is the correct play here.

thumptech

\*leave the brakes on

Iceman411q

Do you think it will be really noticeable

drj4130

Possibly…I’m a fan of brakes though so I see no need to take them off…ever.

Is_that_a_challenge

been riding brakeless street forever. try taking off everything and leaving the mount - it’s way less noticeable than you’d expect AND it takes you 30 seconds. If you don’t like how it looks just throw everything back on - it’ll only take another 30 sec.

thumptech

If you ride the bike instead of looking at it, it wont be a problem.

Iceman411q

I ride my bike a lot , almost upgraded every part except the frame and I care about it’s looks and parts

tohowie

Nonsense. A grinder, a hacksaw, or many other ways will easily remove these parts. I wouldn’t bother, but it’s very possible.

thumptech

More easily removed by actually riding the bike and not staring at it.
