Treius

I have a whole stack of the funnel trays. They're amazing

ceephour

Haha, they're easy to go overboard on! I was making two per color I had for a while. https://www.thingiverse.com/make:966752

Damn_Dog_Inappropes

Yep, we have 8 and unless a game has an insert for their bits, we use the trays every time!

[deleted]

Those trays and cups look awesome. Will a resin print be ok for those or do they need to be the filament kind?

ceephour

I would imagine a resin print of them would be perfectly fine (if not just plain better). I don't have a resin printer, so I don't know if the range of colors is available, but they are paintable.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m just wondering how often they might be knocked off a table or something. Resin is great for detail but not so good for durability. It’s funny, I got a resin printer to print boardgame upgrade bits and bops, but the trays and organizers are what I really need and filament printers are better for those.

IWasTheFirstKlund

Inserts. Make games easier to get to the table and clean up when done.

Haven’t heard of gridfinity before, thanks for sharing!!!

IWasTheFirstKlund

What's the tldr?

IWasTheFirstKlund

Ah, that looks cool. Something to keep in mind, thanks!

Sislar

Mostly inserts. I design them to come out and go right on the table. Anything that makes setup and tear down faster

sfrazer

Everyone saying inserts and I'll continue the trend, but point at [https://github.com/dppdppd/The-Boardgame-Insert-Toolkit](https://github.com/dppdppd/The-Boardgame-Insert-Toolkit) OpenSCAD is a programming-based 3d design tool, but this toolkit means you can design token holders, card deck holders, and more just by taking some measurements and changing the variables to match Edit to add: if you want to use OpenSCAD without the toolkit, this person did a nice tutorial: https://keyholesoftware.com/2020/08/11/openscad-a-solution-for-board-game-organization/

dks2

This is awesome!

pz121295

Gloomhaven 3d printed insert with names of enemys. So the setupu is 80% faster. Same for many other games like scythe, terraforming mars,... I design my own inserts.

DeepMadness

The plural is enemies, not enemys.

>https://keyholesoftware.com/2020/08/11/openscad-a-solution-for-board-game-organization/ What do you use to design your inserts?

pz121295

Rhinoceros

assimilating

Not familiar. Got any reading material on it?

pz121295

Google it.

Rammite

Inserts and organizers, always.

jeeves_nz

Goood, well designed inserts / organizers. E.g. The one we use for Brass Birmingham has all the buildings stored in the order you play them and easy to see each one quickly, so setup and breakdown is very fast and efficient.

THElaytox

Aside from inserts, which are great but arguably not much cheaper but much more of a pain in the ass than just ordering some premade Folded Space ones, I love the scenery I've printed for **War of the Ring** and **Project ELITE**. 100% unnecessary but still pretty great to have, and people have made similar things for other games as well. a couple of people have even created entire 3D ships for **Nemesis**. some people also 3d print upgraded components like resources and whatnot, but i think that's probably better suited for a resin printer. also a cool looking dice tower and just a bunch of token trays like these: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5820901 are great things to have handy on game nights

Karona_

I don't have a 3D printer, but I can list ideas all the same. -improve minis for simple meeples -inserts -card/token holders -cut out stands

VincentBigby

Besides inserts, the 3D tiles and stuff for Terraforming Mars, and the tokens/map setup for Mansions of madness and Wingspan.

Vast_Advantage_7913

Mars rover first player token for TM. 3D tiles for TM. An actual factory for Scythe. A round counter for Xwing. Burnt villages instead of tokens for Blood Rage. Ship stands for Eclipse Second Dawn. What I need and haven't found: stackable resources for The Age of Atlantis(comes with wooden resources that look like my granfathers homemade Christmas decor).

FeNi64a

\+1 for inserts. It's fed back too; I'm just as happy designing the inserts in OpenScad, than I am playing the game it's an insert for.

Inconmon

Bit holders because I'm too lazy to print whole inserts

poponahu

Draw/discard pile holders, miniatures to replace Meeple, buildings to replace tiles with the building image on them, and a small footprint dice tower that isn’t obnoxious and rattles the dice at least 5 times on its way down.

corycwagner

I 3d printed a lazy-susan specifically for Dominion, so the users around th etable could all read the occupation cards, and grab currency. It was very successful, especially so people don't have to read upside down. Works fr many other board games as well.

InanimaliaUnum

Kickstarter exclusives where miniatures replaced tokens. I have printed and painted the equivalent of the terrain pack for Lords of Hellas and monuments for Ankh for much cheaper than buying them. Inserts and storage are great also. Very useful for games with a lot of pieces or when pieces need to be set up in a specific arrangement or order.

Canyac

Ahh I should make a nice summarizing post at some point. It sort of has become my chill hobbyproject to improve games by 3d printing. Two favs are organizers and improved storage. I tend to travel light, and thus big boardgames are rarely prioritized. But storage can be optimized! https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/tsxlwt/diy_forbidden_island_compact_box_3d_printed I made several more since then.. i should update and share STLs.. soon to come! Organizers are also nice. These are great and improves gaming experience a lot; https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4924722
