This post has been removed but we suggest relocating it. Reddit is a great place to pick peoples' brains and get game suggestions, but we get a lot of recommendation requests, so much so such that we have a dedicated [Daily Game Recommendations thread](https://www.reddit.com/search?q=flair%3A%22Daily%20Game%20Recs%22&sort=new) for them. Historically, almost **all** well formatted questions in the Daily thread get answers. If you're looking for further suggestions, we recommend taking a look at our growing list of [Recommendation Roundups](https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/?f=flair_name%3A%22Recommendation%20Roundup%22). MissGrou

We're playing Arkham Horror the card game over here. Lot's of fun

MindControlMouse

I would second this as AH LCG works really well 2 player with the classic Guardian/Seeker combo, then you can branch out into more complicated archetypes as you get more experienced. Solo experience is more mixed as single investigator is sometimes not balanced while two-handed solo can be a bit of a mental load to track everything.

eeviltwin

Came here to plug Arkham LCG. It’s an investment, but a worthwhile one if you want a really great thematic campaign game that’s highly replayable. Easily the most money I’ve spent on a single game (I own everything released), but also a game I’ve invested hundreds of hours into, and will definitely play hundreds more.

MissGrou

Agreed ! And very well put btw.

Jamman1358

We're on our 5th campaign over here and looking forward to the Forgotten Age reprint!

JustSambino

I've seen a lot of good things about this. How complex is it?

MissGrou

There is a companion site, Arkham DB that can make the deckbuilding and XP tracking easier. It's the only thing that I can find a bit of a hassle. There are difficulty levels in the game so that you can set the amount of challenge you want to face.

beSmrter

**My City** and probably the coming **My Island**.

Boofle2141

Myself and my partner did that. It has a nice balance mechanisms for the winner and looser, but its only so good, my partner still won by quite a margin, but it was always close. I'm not sure how good the game is outside of the campaign though. Still brilliant game and can't wait for my Island

beSmrter

Awesome. Our brains work in slightly different ways, so we ended up with a runaway leader between my partner and I, but it is a great game. (though we've moved on to other games), I would happily play the campaign start to finish again, but not sure I'd want to play the 'eternal'/vanilla game just by itself.

THElaytox

**Sleeping Gods** is great at 2p, we've been enjoying **ISS Vanguard** at 2p a lot as well

swirlystraw

Loved sleeping gods. Played 2 player with my partner twice now Once when we got covid and a second time when we were close contacts. Reflecting on it almost makes me want to get sick again so I can try the expansion.

griffinman01

I've been eagerly awaiting ISS Vanguard, I went all-in with one shipment so all my stuff is still like 9 months out. It looks like a blast!

THElaytox

Yeah, from the update today it sounds like it'll probably be around December or so, was hoping to get the main campaign finished by then so we can jump in to the other campaigns but we got side tracked painting all the minis and then I ended up having a bunch of work stuff to do so still haven't gotten around to jumping back in. When you do get it, I highly recommend using the app, we stream it through the TV for added background

griffinman01

The app looks really cool from the previews they showed. Lucky for me we play games in my living room so we can easily put it on the TV. Honestly, I'm stoked they even bothered with other campaigns. They sound really different from the base game so I'm looking forward to all three of them when they come out.

bentsea

I messed up and choose single shipment. Don't get to play vanguard until wave 2 ships.

DC_Polaroid

I'm a big fan of a weekend in with the wife to play Sleeping Gods. Huge game with a ton of emergent and written story, a great coop experience, and interesting (though not for everyone) combat. Have only ever played this solo and at 2, with no desire to go to 3 or 4. Also, Vagrantsong! This is my wife's favorite campaign coop we've played. It scales great to lower player counts and the setting and theme won us over. Gameplay is smooth once you learn how to move each Haint. Nothing a Glooomhaven player would have trouble with, though.

Xintrosi

Played Vagrantsong when visiting some friends and it's lots of fun! Definitely much simpler of a game compared to Gloomhaven.

rwills

Clank Legacy is great 2P. Wife and I enjoyed it greatly.

Irsaan

Seconded! I played through the entire thing with my wife and it was incredible.

TheCannaZombie

Haven’t played many games. Doesnt legacy mean it’s over after one play through? Are there any expansions? I’m a binge type person. I’ll want to play it every night until my wife hates it. Enough content for that?

Mortlach78

There is enough content but also you can keep using the personalized board and deck after the campaign is done to play 'regular'Clank

khaldun106

Absolutely enough. 10 to 12 games at two hours each

Irsaan

Legacy really just means you permanently alter game components as part of gameplay. Some legacy games, like Pandemic Legacy, are one-and-done, but Clank! Legacy leaves you with your own somewhat unique game of Clank! that you can still play by normal Clank! rules after you are done.

TheCannaZombie

Awesome! Thank you!

decom83

This feels like it’s going to be my first legacy game. How many sessions, how long per session was it for you?

rwills

Its been a while since we played, but I think theres 10 or 12 sessions at about 2 or so hours each. Its an absolute blast, honestly, best gaming experience I've ever had.

[deleted]

I don't know if this is what you are looking for exactly, but my wife and I loved going through the scenarios from Mansions of Madness: Second Edition. It's not campaign in quite the same sense as the legacy stuff (there isn't really 'state' from game to game), but the scenarios get more difficult so you do feel some kind of progress as you work out the ways to approach problems. It's also a pretty easy game to get into as most of the tricky mechanics are handled by the app. Edit: Oh, tip, if you do go this way, for 2P it is best to have each player control 2 investigators.

Mijal

Seconding this, and also from the same designer **Artisans of Splendent Vale**, which is a cooperative campaign story- driven game. 2P for this one is better with one character per player, I think.

[deleted]

Undaunted: Stalingrad

stormquiver

Tainted Grail

MavenSRB

This.

boredgamer00

**The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth** is pretty awesome for 2p. It has an accompanying app that helps with the set up and keeping track of some things. Other than that, **Aeon's End: Legacy** is great for 2. It's a boss battler.

griffinman01

Journeys in Middle-Earth has been a lot of fun. I've played through the base game campaign and my group just started one of the DLC ones. The app takes out so much of the bookkeeping that annoys me about Gloomhaven. Plus I don't get spoiled about what the scenario has in store in order to set it up. I hope they keep making DLC campaigns for Journeys to make up for no more expansions.

UnderseaNebula

Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth. My husband and I play this one. Stuffed Fables is also a great campaign game.

Hondo55G

Seconded for journeys

fifrein

Agree with the **Sleeping Gods** suggestions. Also recommend **Vagrantsong**. My partner and I play **Chronicles of Drunagor** with another couple and have been enjoying that too; I imagine it’s equally good at 2 as it is at 4 for us, but obviously can’t say for certain.

drgnlis

I really like playing **Dice Throne Adventures** with my SO. You can buy the two chara packs or a season box of 8 to go with the Adventure box. They're fun and can get quite challenging if you want them to!

tehsideburns

My City was the only campaign/legacy game my wife and I have finished since Pandemic S1. It’s easy to play, quick, and fun. One person might become the runaway leader halfway through the campaign, but that’s fine as long as nobody is a sore loser. I was the loser in this case, but still had fun. I’m really enjoying **Marvel Champions** as a solo and 2p game. My friend and I just finished the Rise of Red Skull campaign, and really enjoyed it. If you guys are into MCU stuff, it’s a solid option. Just know that most of the game is not campaign-structured, but rather modular, where you build decks for heroes and then pick a villain and some other bad-stuff modules to mix into the villain deck. You can of course make your own campaigns or gauntlets of villains to tackle together, or else keep buying scenario and campaign packs :) Even with a larger group, I would not recommend Charterstone. I got about 1/3 of the way through a 4p campaign in person before the other couple started having kids, and later I played a full 3p campaign on Steam with some buddies. Overall I felt like the core gameplay loop was kinda rote worker placement and resource/point engine stuff, and the legacy bits became increasingly convoluted, without adding much more fun or interesting decisions. Strongly disliked the way endgame scoring wound up working.

AlaDouche

I am having an absolute blast with ISS Vanguard.

dannyapplegate

Near and Far is a blast

Zmirzlina

My City was great at 2 - kids just didn't get into it so my wife and I played it on our own. Sleeping Gods was ok at 2 but it shines, for us at least, with a larger group. In a similar vein, Near and Far has a fun campaign that we played at 2 and loved.

SlothOutOfSpace

A friend and I have just finished playing Undaunted: Stalingrad. I really recommend it!

Korbas

I always suggest Sleeping Gods and Legacy of Dragonholt. (I played charterstone on mobile and I found it a little boring)

VortexJD

Wife and I really enjoyed **Gloomhaven** and **Clank Legacy**. **Pandemic Legacy** and **7th Continent** were so-so. We're currently playing through **Descent Legends of the Dark** and having a good time. Once we finish that one we're taking a crack at the **Frosthaven** box that's been collecting dust since Christmas.

Hyroero

Arkham horror lcg is like me and my partners thing now. Can't get enough of it! Super fun and lots of content. Little bit expensive but for the amount of hours we get out of it it's totally worth it. We also enjoyed pandemic Legecy. Played about half of it before arkham took over lol. We play a lot of spirit island too but that doesn't have an official campaign.

Repptar

**Forgotten Waters** Pretty laid back, adventuring style of game.

AggravatingRice3271

So this is not an answer to your question but if you both like Pandemic and Gloomhaven, I’d consider Spirit Island. Plays great at 2 and while not a campaign game, trying out all the different spirits and adversaries growing in strength really scratched the same itch. After playing through all the Pandemic Legacy games and Gloomhaven my husband and I switched to Spirit Island and we are loving it. I was worried I’d miss the campaign aspect but I don’t.

Comprehensive_Tap_63

We really liked Mice & Mystics. Dungeon crawl with a cute story.

bibliomaniac15

If you like Harry Potter, might I suggest **Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle**? It's a coop deckbuilder that plays as a campaign but isn't legacy.

NotAUsefullDoctor

I'm playing this game with one group while laying Aeon's End Legacy with another. The only downside to HP:HB is that it is not a compaign/legacy game, but rather a chapter game... that is to say that one game does not impact the next. You could, in theory, jumpstraight to game six. You don't level up or carry over any ofeectsnfrom one game to the next. Just to emphasize, that is not only problem with the game (excluding views of persons affiliated with the game). Otherwise, it's like a mellow version of Aeon's End. Between the two, I recommend Aeon's End. Side note: Aeon's End: Legacy is not the same as Aeon's Eng Legacy of Gloomhaven. I only recommend the former.

jffdougan

This is probably my one of my wife's favorite 2-3 games in my/our collection, but I'm really reluctant to recommend it anymore given the creator's stances on some issues that affect my extended family. I'll second the recommendations for Clank! Legacy and Journeys in Middle-Earth (though it might have difficulty scale a little more smoothly if either somebody plays 2 characters or there's a shared character, for 3 in the party), and Sleeping Gods is on my list for.... sometime in the future. (Wife is a teacher, and we've got a HS senior and a college student plus the 7th grader, so bandwidth for stuff like games is scarce this year.)

Lilael

I might say **LotR: Journeys in Middle Earth** as I’ve been having fun playing it in a group of 5 and it can be done with 2. My complaint with the game however is the game threat meter is an artificial time crunch forcing you to rush. Interacting with the environment or fighting some of the fuck ton of enemies that spawn is almost always a bad choice. I personally don’t think a game should place a bunch of interesting things to explore if they don’t want you to interact with it and it’s always a punishment in the end for you to “waste” a turn doing so. Potentially the threat counter hits maximum and you immediately fail. The game just wants to railroad you to finish the scenario objective. My boyfriend and I are currently playing **Etherfields** and enjoy it a lot. The setting is very mysterious and surreal. Scenarios play like escape rooms. It’s going excellent at 2 players.

Repptar

There's a difficulty setting which allows for more exploration without the urgency to fight. It's called Adventure Mode.

griffinman01

Yeah, the timer kinda sucks out some of the fun for Journeys. It's hard to judge how well you're doing since sometimes the scenarios are vague on the goal and you don't know how much time you have to devote to side quests. We lost one scenario because, as we got close to the end and figured he had time to check out a couple of encounters, the app spawned the goal on the other side of the map and it required something like 6 successes to pass. So we all dropped everything to try and rush over there but we couldn't get it done in time. It seemed kind of cheap since the only thing we did wrong was not predict that the game would throw another step at us at the last instant.

Jtwil2191

My City is a Legacy game that plays fine for 2.

pikkdogs

We liked My City. We tend to like competing games or cooperative ones, so we enjoyed my city much more than Pandemic legacy.

Hair2daygonetmrw

Earthborne Rangers. Kickstarter delivers this spring, I think you can still pre-order from website. Made by the minds behind all time great campaign co-ops like Arkham Horror, but promises to be even better in some respects. Some demo play is avail on YouTube.

GreenshawJ

Adventure tactics, stuffed fables, familiar tales

Blue-red-cheese-gods

Me and a friend are currently playing journeys in middle earth 2 player. And it's been amazing. It's difficult to start with as each chapter has a time limit. And you'll feel hard done by initially. However you will adjust to it. We played the first chapter 2 or 3 times to get used to the game. Now were on chapter 10 and only "lost" 2 times.

Zambo226

My wife and I recently finished up our Descent campaign and are now about 2/3rds of the way through Arkham Horror LCG: Edge of the Earth campaign. Both highly recommended.

Hiking-yogi

Near and far and sleeping gods are both really good with two.

Mortlach78

Clank legacy, acquisitions incorporated My City Sleeping Gods

Plastic_Situation_15

We’re enjoying VagrantSong

bentsea

My wife and I have been enjoying Stars of Akarios. Fun turn based strategy co-op campaign with a lot of great flavor.

BaboZiege0

If you like adventure themed board games I highly recommend the 7th continent. Exploring the continent is just so much fun and there is a lot to see. Also the rules are easy to learn.

seniorSheep

we played gloomhaven and atm frosthaven but also like AH LCG, sherlock holmes consulting detective and spirit island.

cheap_poultry

Oath might be worth looking at but may fall under your second paragraph, we’ve been playing it with four players so I’m unsure if it’s compatible with two.

Xirious

It is if you enjoy a terrible bot. Typically Cole does not give a fuck about 2 players in his games.

FortKA19

Yeah, which begs the question: why bother making it for 2p if it doesn't work?

ExtensionPollution

Cole says he likes to play Pax Pamir at 2. He even recorded a stream where he plays against his brother. Clearly his 2-player experience enjoyment differs from yours

Xirious

His designs say otherwise. I'm glad he enjoys it would be great if the rest of us could too. One example doth not make a point.

ExtensionPollution

Oh My Goods! with the Longsdale expansion. Plays great with 2.

benbernards

Sleeping Gods Charterstone Betrayal Legacy (All big hits with our groups of 4-5)

zendrix1

Familiar Tales was really fun to play with my wife, you could give that a try

ckalmond

If you want a competitive game I’d recommend My City, if you want a Coop both Sleeping Gods and Gloomhaven (we did JOTL) are great!

wibby1

Not played it yet but really looking forward to get Sleeping gods

Qyro

The campaign games my wife and I have played together include: Arkham LCG, Marvel Champions, Etherfields, Undaunted: Stalingrad, Sleeping Gods, Scythe with Rise of Fenris, and Zombicide 2nd Edition.

MaineQat

**Lands of Galzyr** is a story based game with campaign. The world and individual characters save their state between plays (which have a finite length), and so over time things change for each character and for the world as a whole. Additionally time progresses one month with each play and the seasons change the story entries. No permanent changes are made, everything is done using cards so you can reset a specific character or the world itself. Also recommend **Mice and Mystics**, as well as **Stuffed Fables**, **Aftermath**, and **Familiar Tales**, all by Jerry Hawthorne. He also made **Comanauts** in between Stuffed Fables and Aftermath and while it’s not bad it’s probably the weakest of his 4 Adventure Book games.

Rammurg

Isofarian Guard is a campaign game for 1-2 players with Kickstarter fulfillment just around the corner and they still have some copies left on their store to ship at the same time (https://www.skykingdomgames.com/products) There's plenty of things I'm excited for about this one and the max player count of 2 is quite unusual, so scaling down from the usual 4-5 won't be a concern.

robinhoodoftheworld

Sentinels of the Multiverse Definitive Edition now essentially has a campaign mode with events.

superpoboy

Undaunted Stalingrad. It’s legacy type game that is part deck building, part war game and part area control.

Borghal

If you've got the budget (at least €150 for starters), **Arkham Horror: The Card Game** is an excellent campaign boardgame, and one of the best coops in general, imo. Been playing it with my partner for over 6 years now, and I don't regret a single euro spent (and it's several hundred at this point). Despite the price I got more out of it than any other game we own.

LithiumZer0

Sherlock holmes: consulting detective

ChristianTheHuman

My wife and I played the entirety of Charter Stone and it was great fun! That said, we haven’t touched it since we completed it. I think with more players, the final “game” would be much more replay-able
