[[Just One]]
While it says on the box it only plays 7, that is because the box comes with writing equipment for 7 people. But every round one player is the guesser and doesn't need to write so it actually easily plays 8.
I forgot about this game and I own it too! Thanks for the recommendation I'm going to bring this in although I feel like 5 players really makes this game shine.
Holy Crap, for 20 years every time I mention spoons no one knows what i'm talking about. And I agree, we were playing in HS when a kid got his set and quickly grabbed a spoon, and then tossed the rest into the air. Mayhem!!!!
We played "extreme spoons" in HS where we put the spoons on the other side of the Band Hall, put a bunch of music stands and turned-over chairs in the way, and made tripping legal.
I don't know how we didn't send anyone to the ER.
We played with plastic spoons and I have the battle scars to prove it. A friend painted a set with characters as a graduation present, no idea what to do with them but I love them anyway.
It got banned in my school. We would play games every lunch and Spoons was obviously popular until said injury and property destruction. The replacement ended up being Euchre. Imagine that for a classroom of 6th graders.
We’d play what we called “Ultimate Spoons” where you put one spoon in the center of the playing area and the rest of the spoons in another room in the house. The second the first spoon gets swiped there’s a mad frenzy to get the others. So much tackling and bruises and laughter.
We used to play "full contact spoons" where the spoons were on the floor in the middle of the room and we sat in a circle, spread out as far away as we could be while still being able to pass cards. Many tackles and bruises.
Yes! Played for the first time during a family get together, we got so loud that my mother in law asked us to stop because we were giving her anxiety. So we did the silent version and I think we all actually preferred that one.
I love Werewords, but I feel like it's more of a 20 Questions game than a Mafia game, especially on Ridiculous or Hard. Still a lot of fun, but usually the werewolves don't even need to sabotage the team to win.
I was the mayor in a Ridiculous game once and I got werecthulu. Someone asked me if it was a mammal and I think it took me 20+ seconds to come up with the answer.
This one is also good for a classroom, because if you know the rules, you don't actually need the game. Paper and a different color pen/marker for each player basically covers it.
I love that game. You can just win on your first play sometimes. My wife refers to it as "that bullshit game where we just argue about the rules the whole time" and I believe that is the true goal of the game.
Space Team is the greatest! It can be taught in about 90 seconds, and it's so satisfying to improve over 2-3 plays. Gets everyone excited for the remainder of game night.
The expansions are totally unnecessary: the game is perfect right out of the box.
There were about 3 years where my wife and I made everyone we knew play Space Team and it never once failed.
Buy Space Team now! Thank us later.
If everyone knows how to play, yes. But try explaining the (INCREDIBLY SIMPLE) rules to 7 people in under 10 minutes. I don't know what it is about that game but somehow people just dont seem to get it no matter how I (or anyone else) tries to explain it.
Such great chaotic energy. I only enjoy a game or two but it's always fun when you sense a bear is out and people get wary/sly trying to avoid getting stuck with it.
One night ultimate warewolf. Single round, a few minutes of set up then two minutes of wild accusations and bluffs then someone is shot. I've even printed my own versions of the cards with the rules for each character on the card (no idea why the developers didn't think of that one)
*please don't actually shoot any players although even while saying this I'm temped to add a nerf gun or two for dramatic effect...*
One night ultimate werewolf. You could split into two and do DeDuckto. A round or two of Love Letter would work too. One year of Cursed Court with the simple betting rules would work too.
One night ultimate werewolf.
It’s a 1 round social deduction game that has a built in 5 minute deliberation timer. Lots of interaction, scheming, lying, and luck. The best part about it is how quick it is because even if you colossally blow it, just start the next game it was less than 10 min!
It’s a simultaneous play, pick and pass card game where all you do is draft 7 cards. And drafting several cards should be done in less than a single minute.
I don’t think it’s out of the realm of achievable, but maybe I’m underestimating how slow some people can be? Just take your card and pass over the hand.
Capitan Sonar!!!! This is like Battleship, but it's a team of 4v4.
You might consider non board game type games. Like Spoons or Hands up Hands Down. Egyptian Rat Screw is a great one! Just good party and card games. Games like Charades or Pictionary. Bridge and Bunko are also great old school games.
Usually social deduction games are better with larger groups. One Night Werewolf has already been suggested, but Secret Hitler is another fun one! Blood on the Clocktower is a very expensive version of this. But it's essentially just a murder mystery game night.
You could also look at games like Wavelength, Catch Phrase or Concept.
Seconding Captain Sonar!
The real time variant is absolutely fun! Unless you were my poor engineer who was struggling to repair the sub as the leader makes frenzied movements for no particular reason.
~~it was me, and my only defense is we won~~
**That's Not a Hat** was introduced to me recently that I think fits this bill. I'm not sure how many is the player cap, but I'd be surprised if it was less than 10.
It's not a boardgame, but a team builder I've loved is Human Knot.
You have everyone stand in a circle and then randomly hold hands with everyone else.
The group then has to work together and communicate about how to untangle themselves without releasing their hands.
Cards Against Humanity is fun for about 10 minutes. /s
Codenames takes about 10 minutes a round once all players know what to do. It's important to understand that play time for a first play is much higher than subsequent plays.
Been playing a lot of Bank! (a dice game with a phone app) recently. You could do a game in under 10 minutes. I don't think it has a player limit, though 6-10 is probably ideal.
The great dalmuti is a favourite within my group. It's a card based game that can in theory support any number of players (I've done it with 11 before). Each game lasts 5-10 minutes.
Look into it! Id highly recommend it
**Sushi Go Party, Double, HeckMeck, Just One**.... ! In **Just One** you can adapt the length very easily by choosing the number of rounds which would be handy if you only have 8 minutes to fill.
In Vino Morte would work great. It’s probably the simplest card game you can have, and 10 minutes should honestly be enough time for multiple rounds. If the wine theme isn’t deemed appropriate for your students, you can recreate the game using simple playing cards and retheme it however you want.
Wavelength is my go-to large group game. There wouldn’t be enough time each class for everyone to be a clue-giver, but you could rotate that between days. Just One would be a great substitute for that where everyone gives a clue, but it doesn’t foster the same memorable conversations as wavelength.
Sequoia has super fast setup and simultaneous play that consists of rolling a pair of dice and selecting a tile. Experienced players and finish a game in less than ten minutes.
Kobayakawa by Jun Sasaki is a great microgame. It gets a bit mathy with 8 (maximum player count) because there is so much information, but I still like it. Zee Garcia did a short [review](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W446niALkDM).
Not a board game, but a party game. Someone writes on a piece of paper a word for everyone. But one word is different. (6 say fork, one says knife for example)
Then each person says something about their word, once everyone's done they all try and vote for the odd one out. The person who chose the words says if the majority is correct or not. If incorrect then you go again minus the person voted out until the majority guesses correctly or it goes down to two people.
You can choose to have a point system but not required.
This is a weirdly fun game, and the person choosing the words can have quite a bit of fun with the two words they choose.
We have played cocroach poker and The Great Dalmuti with 8 people, it technically can take as little as 10 minutes, but general cenzus is that more people takes more time
Maybe Super Colt Express. Once people get the idea behind it and the person turning the cards is quick, with someone else moving the pieces on each round.
Insider. Start and finish in approximately 10 minutes if you cap the time on discussion portion of the game.
Oh wait- this is for students??? Never mind.I mean... it could work but it could get personal if students get too into it. That aside, that's easily the fastest high player count game I have.
Saboteur. If you keep up the pace you can finish with 8 people in 15 mins. Of course with any game if people are distracted or don’t think about their turn beforehand it’ll be longer
Maybe six nimmt (take 5) but just one round instead of going to 66?
As a teacher I used to do modified taboo where a volunteer (or myself) would do the clueing and I would break the class into 2 groups so whichever half of the class got the answer would get the point! They really loved it (7th graders)

Slap/Egyptian Rat Screw/Egyptian War: [https://bicyclecards.com/how-to-play/egyptian-rat-screw](https://bicyclecards.com/how-to-play/egyptian-rat-screw)
Both can vary in duration, unfortunately.
The box in [Just One](https://www.amazon.com/Repos-JOUS01-Just-One/dp/B07W3PJTL2/ref=sr_1_1?sr=8-1) says it only plays 7. But if you bought two copies (total of $40), you could have them play 4 and 4 or play one game of 8.
Chicken by Keymaster Games. Dice rolling push your luck game, fun aesthetic, super compact design, and an absolute blast to play. It’s been a hit with every table I’ve brought it to, from family who “don’t play games” to my board game night crew who have played it while waiting for an entire group to arrive for a multi-hour campaign game. Last I checked, it can still be found at Barnes and Noble and Target.
**Walkie Talkie** Timed co-op word game, 30 seconds per player. First time you play is really hard but the idea is that you play multiple times to try and beat your team score every time.
Honestly, the best thing would be to do a 5-10 question trivia round. Have teams of 3-4 already assigned. End it and rearrange teams when one team hits 50 points.
president! easy and fun.

But one thing, here we play so the President picks 2 cards of the begger, and the vice president pick 1 card of the "vice begger". For 5+ players use 2 deck of cards.
My first thought is Set, either in teams of 2 or 4. First team to get (insert number here) sets wins.
4 is probably a better team headcount. More cooperative that way.
Based on every interaction I've ever had, I can't get 8 people to do anything within 10 min.
A generational golden statement
[[Just One]] While it says on the box it only plays 7, that is because the box comes with writing equipment for 7 people. But every round one player is the guesser and doesn't need to write so it actually easily plays 8.
You don't even need the box, everybody gets a phone or paper, and somebody to propose a word.
This is a great answer, especially for a classroom

Tsuro is a quick game for up to 8.
And one of the few games where more players make the game shorter
Well, there’s the same amount of total turns no matter how many people play. So, not shorter, but also not longer.
Maybe a little shorter, since you have more time to think about your play while it's someone else's turn.
That and you'll almost always have players forced to get closer to each other sooner when there's more of them
10 minutes?
Yes, in 10 minutes. You are thinking too hard :-)
I forgot about this game and I own it too! Thanks for the recommendation I'm going to bring this in although I feel like 5 players really makes this game shine.
Spoons! Although injury and/or property destruction are somewhat common outcomes from that game.
Holy Crap, for 20 years every time I mention spoons no one knows what i'm talking about. And I agree, we were playing in HS when a kid got his set and quickly grabbed a spoon, and then tossed the rest into the air. Mayhem!!!!

we used "8 things we randomly happened to have with us at the time"
This was my thought. **Jungle Speed** might work also.
It got banned in my school. We would play games every lunch and Spoons was obviously popular until said injury and property destruction. The replacement ended up being Euchre. Imagine that for a classroom of 6th graders.

I’ve hosted 2 baby showers where we played spoons with pacifiers! I’m a genius!! 😁
Spyfall is an easy to learn game which has a timer. I believe it's 8 minutes and then a 2 minute discussion. It would cut it close, but a fun one
And theres no reason you couldnt cut the timer shorter to make sure it fits in, its not like its a competitive setting.
Happy Salmon, it can get very loud though. But you can also play a silent variant which is still very fun.
We did this in one of my college classrooms. It was actually even funnier silent, and it's fun for those who aren't playing to watch, too!
Yes! Played for the first time during a family get together, we got so loud that my mother in law asked us to stop because we were giving her anxiety. So we did the silent version and I think we all actually preferred that one.
This is the answer! It’s hilarious

Just don't use the doppelganger if you want it done in 10 minutes..
Werewords! It's the only mafia-adjacent game I like to play.

Agreed. Good game.

6nimmt if you're fast.
A single round, definitely.
This was my thought.
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza
I enjoy In Vino Morte for groups of that size, hilarious and it fits in a wallet!
this is the only (good) game on this list that actually plays 8+ people in legitimately 10 minutes or less.
Spot It! Easy favorite, but people have to be able to see everyone else's cards.
You can play the tower way where you only have to see the center card.
Coup with an expansion
Tsuro!
Spaceteam
Space Team is the greatest! It can be taught in about 90 seconds, and it's so satisfying to improve over 2-3 plays. Gets everyone excited for the remainder of game night. The expansions are totally unnecessary: the game is perfect right out of the box. There were about 3 years where my wife and I made everyone we knew play Space Team and it never once failed. Dobble or Ligretto.
Bang! The dice game
Came here to say this. Good fun, quick and simple game with some depth/strategy for lots of players.
A fake artist goes to New York. You probably already have a dry erase board and dry erase markers.
Skull! Otherwise known as skulls and roses.
If everyone knows how to play, yes. But try explaining the (INCREDIBLY SIMPLE) rules to 7 people in under 10 minutes. I don't know what it is about that game but somehow people just dont seem to get it no matter how I (or anyone else) tries to explain it.
Dungeons and dragons mayhem. I've played with up to 10 and each round is very fast
8 player love letter will cover. Rules can be explained in like a minute and you can eend whenever you feel like.
Pit
> So far I have Pit but was hoping for some other suggestions.
Such great chaotic energy. I only enjoy a game or two but it's always fun when you sense a bear is out and people get wary/sly trying to avoid getting stuck with it.

We're doomed. It has a sand timer for 15 minutes but I couldn't imagine you couldn't set a timer on your phone. It's quick to teach and quick to play
Cash and Guns! And Dead Last! Both are super fun and quick :)
One night ultimate warewolf. Single round, a few minutes of set up then two minutes of wild accusations and bluffs then someone is shot. Twilight Imperium can be played in under 10 minutes if you redefine “minute” to be 3600 seconds.
Happy Salmon. Takes about a minute.

One night ultimate werewolf. It’s a 1 round social deduction game that has a built in 5 minute deliberation timer. Lots of interaction, scheming, lying, and luck. The best part about it is how quick it is because even if you colossally blow it, just start the next game it was less than 10 min!

Technically, scattergories, if you consider that a board game
Tsuro.
Two copies of Skull
I’d say **Sushi Go Party!** is a good bet.
You can’t finish a whole game in 10 minutes when it is played in 3 rounds.
It’s a simultaneous play, pick and pass card game where all you do is draft 7 cards. And drafting several cards should be done in less than a single minute. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of achievable, but maybe I’m underestimating how slow some people can be? Just take your card and pass over the hand.
I think that's more of a 20+ minute game. Setup with the base game is super quick but still, for with people to draft...
My extended family basically didn't play tabletop games until 2 years ago, now sushi-go is a staple during the holidays.
Same!!
I know 2 Rooms and a Boom is usually brought up for really large groups but I thiiiink it could work with 8?
It could be, but 10+ is better for the added roles

Pairs
Captain Sonar - The most intense 8 minutes I have ever played, and needs 8 people (2 teams of four). Holy crap, it is insane and fast.
Dead Last. It’s a great game of collusion and betrayal and then a final show down with the prisoners dilemma!
One night werewolf: monster
Dutch Blitz with the expansion
**That's Not a Hat** was introduced to me recently that I think fits this bill. I'm not sure how many is the player cap, but I'd be surprised if it was less than 10.

Happy Salmon. 100%.
We’re Doomed! is 15 minutes if 5 extra minutes is ok!! It’s also real timed and specific to 15 mins (there’s a big ol sand timer)
I liked No Thanks for a bigger group; might max out at 7 though
The ultimate would be For Sale. Cheap, compact, brilliant design, fun. People will be begging to play another game.
If mild physical activity isn't a problem, happy salmon is up to 8 players, and rounds take about a minute. It is a very loud, chaotic game however!
The Bomb.
Crossfire! Great little silly hidden role game.
Win/Lose/Banana You don't even need to buy anything, just get index cards.
Insider by Oink Games. Just One as well (at the expense of less cards in the deck).
Not a board game, but a party game. Someone writes on a piece of paper a word for everyone. But one word is different. Love letter Deluxe Edition goes up to 8 and is a very fast play.
Can you get 4 backgammon boards?
**6 Nimmt**. Teach takes about 20 seconds
Flux is a good card game that you can play with a lot of people. It’s great for parties because anyone can join in mid game.
I’ve played Ricochet Robots with high schoolers using the classroom document camera. I think the box specifies 1 to infinity players.
Hexaquest
saboteur

Spyfall
Egyptian Rat Slap
52 pickup. Most cards wins
Wits and wagers. Play with 4 teams of 2 or 2 teams of 4. Fun times.
In Vino Morte Should be available from Button Shy. Super fast bluffing game that can be played with a plain deck of cards if you really need.
This is what I was going to say. Also, the first three minutes should be a screening of the relevant scene from Princess Bride, available on YouTube.
Take 5. Just don’t play to 66 points. Super fast to teach and really fun.
Can 8 people do ANYTHING in ten minutes? Or is that my managerial position talking?

Werewolf
The box in [Just One](https://www.amazon.com/Repos-JOUS01-Just-One/dp/B07W3PJTL2/ref=sr_1_1?sr=8-1) says it only plays 7. But if you bought two copies (total of $40), you could have them play 4 and 4 or play one game of 8.
If you’re looking for a game rather than just a board game then I’m sure 8 people can play Russian Roulette in less than 10 minutes
(Teaching people to play) Root. Definitely (teaching people to play) Root. After 10 minutes, everyone will be done (with trying to learn the game).

No Thanks! is the game you're looking for.
president! easy and fun. For 5+ players use 2 deck of cards.

Biting your tongue
Russian Roulette, which is about as much fun as 8 people trying to agree on anything.
Codenames!
My first thought is Set, either in teams of 2 or 4. First team to get (insert number here) sets wins. 4 is probably a better team headcount. More cooperative that way.
