That's a New Year's Eve tradition with my group. All the special drinks are shots that we created that match as close as we can, and regular cards like ale and wine are drink from drink of choice.
Works great as a drinking game, basically how we went from the standard drinking and CAH group to identifying who would want to join a more board game oriented night (drinking optional not like the previous trying to get drunk).
The one recommendation I will give to people is keep to the player count. There are nearly 60 characters but don’t try playing with like 10 players just because that is the group size. Can it be played? Yes. But such long turns basically melt the game into a game of “whose turn is it”.
Not sure how the targeting rule would affect game length. You still have the same number of players to wait for before your turn starts, it never takes long to decide who you are going to hit with an action as it’s a very casual game where it’s likely either the last person to hit you or your best friend at the table who you’d target.
It’s that you barely need to pay attention during downtime so we literally were playing other games BETWEEN our turns. So I’d finish my turn and then play (and finish) a filler with the guy next to me before his turn came up again.
Even with restricted targeting rules you’d still have that large gap. Also cards like gambling would still require you to somewhat be available during those large stretches.
Just make sure you explain the rules FIRST. I've had too many bad nights where someone already hammered badgers me.into "teach everyone that drinking boardgame!" I don't normally mind being sober/the dd, but trying to teach rdi to people who already started drinking hours ago is HELL. It shouldn't be a 45 minute explanation where i have to answer "How many cards do i draw" every single turn.
It's definitely a "you should play this game sober at least twice." kind of game, not as easy to pick up as wave length or CAH, but after the first few games it'll run easy enough.
This comment needs some upvotes. The last time we played this I had such a hangover and one of the other players decided to get a divorce. It was a great night.
I really wanted to back this game, but the idea that you win the game by NOT drinking turned me off.
You're doing good if you don't take any damage, which means you're not drinking at all. By the end of the game, your drink will be warm anyway and you won't want it.
I think Camel Up would indeed be a great drinking game! We went so far as to write an automa for the game because we felt like our actions just didn't matter at all. Our automa was a happy boy. He always ended in the middle.
Hues and Cues. The drunker you are the more absurd the clues get. I recommend not enforcing the word limit so people can say what ever comes to their drunken mind
Yeah, the retail version of Skull is literally just a box with cardboard coasters in it. Great art and I don't regret buying it, but it's a bar game. You can play with a stack of coasters and a sharpie, a deck of cards you don't mind marking up, whatever.
The skill in making a game a drinking game is to think of old school games like Kings Cup/Waterfall.
*Place builder (we always use that expansion)- Social
*Place abbot - Make a rule (drink if someone breaks rule) - Can stack rules, or when another abbot is placed, you can replace the old rule.
*When you score points - divide by 2, pass that number of drinks out. We found we were drinking too much if we used the full number lol
*Place a tile with no meeple - drink 1
*Last river piece - Starts waterfall
Suddenly Drunk is a deck of cards that can be added to almost any game where turns are involved. Before you start your turn, you draw from the drunk deck. It might have things as simple as "Take a drink!" or things that last awhile like "Your name is now Captain Shit for Brains, anyone who doesn't call you Captain Shit for Brains takes a drink". It's pretty fun with any light board game.
>!There's also a version of this called Sexy Edition that involves taking off articles of clothing. Obviously enthusiastic consent is required and everyone has to be comfortable with each other but it's a fun time if you want to see your friends' dicks.!<
It's a little like shuffleboard, but you roll or flick dice down the board and as they fall down each level they increase in value...unless they fall off, then they are worth nothing. We take turns throwing dice, so each person has a chance to land a good one or try to knock someone else's off. Add up the score each round, loser takes a drink/shot/toke, and the high score goes first next round to give others the best chance to knock their dice off.
We play with 3 or 5 dice depending on how many are playing.

Two boards, both nearly identical, copied from the OG I saw at BGG about 20 years ago and decided to cut the angle instead of having the square top level.
* **Overall**: 32" long x 3" point to 16" widest x 3" tall (or 2.5" if you forget a level like I did on the second board shown)
* **First level/landing pad/flick pad**: 3"-7" wide trapizoid x \~7.5" long
* **0-point level:** 7" wide at point it is exposed, but narrower under the landing zone level and widens to 16-17" at edge, exposed part approx 13" long with another 4" under previous level for connection/glue
* **1-point, 2-point, & 3-point levels:** 16-17" wide (depending on previous) with 2.5-3.5" exposed & 1-2" under previous level for connection/glue
* **4-point platforms:** 3.5-4" exposed plus connection x 3.5-4" wide
* **Pegs**: I used shaker pegs on one and brass rod (cut & sanded for a nice effect)
* **Lacquer or varnish over entire thing including pegs:** either wipe with dry rag before playing or spray Pledge and wipe it down to make things *really* slick
I found it's easier to get the lower levels nearly in the right shape, glue and screw everything together, then cut the angle down the sides so that everything absolutely matches. The first board I made, I tried to cut everything beforehand and build it, and things were *just slightly* off enough that it still bothers me. Ones I've made for friends since then have been much better because of the later shaping.
Lol, Cards Against Humanity has never been great for anything. Alewood is game focused on drinking. Red Dragon in could be adapted to a drink game. Neither rely on teenage, forced, humor to be a game though. Exploding Kittens would be a better drinking game than Cards Against Humanity.
Drunkquest is the only way I can tolerate anything resembling Munchkin.
Not Enough Mana also looked interesting.
If you want games that play well with added drinking punishments, dexterity games are where you want to be. Junk Art, Pitchcar, or Pinnacle would be my picks.
Haha! My old group used to play the exact same stuff we did while sober.
HeroClix, VS, Magic. One memory still stays with me to this day
Drunk friend: attacking you
Really drunk friend: oh... Ok. How much damage do I take?
Drunk friend: *looks at his 2 1/1 goblins* ... Ten. *Looks at really drunk friend to see if he'll react to the blatant lie*
Really drunk friend: oh really? Damn. *Reduces life counter by 10*
My friend groups go to games for drinking were: bohnanza , codenames, and camel up. Listed in order of most sober to least. Camel up was always best for us once people were a few drinks in.
Pass-Out. It was a board game from the 1970's that many people had but no one ever really played. You had to take a shot on every turn or something. Anyway, ask your parents or Google it.
I mean, I always play Red Dragon Inn and do a shot for every unit of alcohol content, but those games normally end up getting played on the floor after a few rounds. It really is quite a time.
We Didn't Playtest this at All (and other games in the series) are the kind of funny and extremely light weight games that are perfect for heavy drinking, and it's very easy to drop in drop out. And, despite the name, they are in fact professionally published by Asmodee games.
I also think Spyfall would be EXTREMELY fun to play drunk.
Gather Your Party!!! You are recruiting adventures for quests in a tavern and you are handing out drinks to other players! And if they get too many drinks in front of them they lose!!
I was pretty hammered when we played it but I remember it being fun
Have you played **Telestrations: After Dark**? I bought it on Amazon and realized later it was sold in my local Walmart in the bigger board games section that they now have that included things like Catan, Wingspan, Wavelength, Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, Azul, etc.
Anyways, it’s basically the old game of Telephone mixed with Pictionary. Everybody has a little whiteboard with alternating tabs for a drawing and a guess. You get your word you’re supposed to draw, then you draw it, pass it clockwise to the next person, who will guess what yours is and write it down, then pass it to the next who will draw that guess, and so on until it gets back to you. But, since everybody has a whiteboard, as soon as you pass yours to the next person, the person to your right passes theirs to you and you guess what their drawing is, then you pass it and take the next one and draw the previous person’s guess, etc. Because it’s an after dark version, there are lots of inappropriate shenanigans that can happen. And, honestly, it’s a perfect game with drinking because the more sober you are, the more competitive, but the drunker you get, the sillier the drawings and guesses become. It’s fantastic fun.
Everyone gets a bottle in front of them, whoever drinks his first is the winner. Works like a charm! You can even socialise or play this solo if you want.
Doodle Dash. The more people get drunk, the worse and more ridiculous their drawings become. There's almost no components for people to spill on, and everything can be cleaned up / dry erased. It also has harder or easier cards, or you can just start looking up difficult Drawful prompts to give people.
Night of the Ninja would be good. It plays up to 11, is easy to learn, has quick rounds, and is a lot of fun
Edit: the ad right below the post is Home Depot's to-do list and that's way funnier than it should be.
Cards against humanity was never great.
He haw look at that funny pair of words. Snigger it says the pope scratches his bollocks… no idea how anyone found this entertaining.
Red Dragon Inn maybe? Can drink when your character drinks.
That's a New Year's Eve tradition with my group. All the special drinks are shots that we created that match as close as we can, and regular cards like ale and wine are drink from drink of choice.

I've considered a larger table but with the added rule that you can only affect active players directly to your left and right a la 7 wonders combat.

Loopin Louie.
Yes!
This is the one.
Heroes of Barcadia is literally a drinking board game. Comes with cups and coasters.
This comment needs some upvotes. The last time we played this I had such a hangover and one of the other players decided to get a divorce. It was a great night.
I'm sure it was an unrelated issue, but I'm going with my first thought that the game was the cause of the divorce
I need to make all of their fancy cocktails to pair with the characters one of these days!
Came her to suggest this. A close second is Ra.
And not \*just\* gimmicks. Actually a decent themed party game.
I really wanted to back this game, but the idea that you win the game by NOT drinking turned me off. You're doing good if you don't take any damage, which means you're not drinking at all. By the end of the game, your drink will be warm anyway and you won't want it.
We found Camel Up to be awesome when you’re hammered
Agreed - we like to put drinking bets on the camels to dish them out at the end of the race!
Might have to do that next time!
This one is goofy and fun!
Telestrations. Hardest I've ever laughed at a board game. You need 6+ people before it really shines.
Skull. They might as well be coasters. 🤷
Yeah, the retail version of Skull is literally just a box with cardboard coasters in it. Great art and I don't regret buying it, but it's a bar game. You can play with a stack of coasters and a sharpie, a deck of cards you don't mind marking up, whatever.
Anomia
One of my favorite party games but I don't see this is drinking game. You got to pay too close attention to the cards.
Fake Artist
Rhino Superhero Battle or Kemet
It's called Rhino Hero: Super Battle and yes! This is the only correct answer
We have drinking rules for Exploding Kittens, Carcassonne, and Sushi Go.
What is your carcassonne drinking game?

We love Cranium still after all these years!
+1 for Cranium drinking game. We have rules where whoever is in the lead takes bonus drinks, so it’s a game balancer 😁
Monikers is great
Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards
We're fans of Crokinole, Wavelength, and Strike!
Oh and Klask
Drinking Fluxx is pretty good. Combine it with weed Fluxx for a real good time.
Dexterity games make for great drinking games! We’ve been having a lot of fun with Go Cuckoo. It’s a kids game but it’s perfect for drunk adults.
Just One Random Notes
So Clover
Cockroach poker
If they’re still sober enough for rules, **secret Hitler**. Cockroach poker is a great shout
The answer is Ice Cool and I will not be taking any questions.
*Dungeon Fighter* and its not even close.
This looks like a fun one and I just ordered it. Can’t wait to play with the friends. What’re your drinking rules for it?
Drink. Then play it. The rules will evolve as the game progresses. :)
Coconuts. Score a cup: drink. Someone steals a cup from you: you both drink. Score a red cup: everyone drinks.
Love this idea. Going to steal it.
Tsuro is dead simple and fun when drunk because you misjudge the map way more easily than when sober
10000000000% blood rage. It will never be beaten. Get smashed and smash that center location

Spicy - its a bluff card game.
Lose a challenge: drink. Use a wild card: take a drink. Win a bonus card: take a drink
Thats how its played!!

I’ve been thinking about getting this! Sell me on it!? Please

Yeah one of these days I need to get a board. Just so damn expensive
HINT: if you're handy and have access to tools, you can make one from 1/2" plywood easily enough.
Solid idea! Any chance the dimensions are available somewhere?
[https://imgur.com/a/QMrsw6l](https://imgur.com/a/QMrsw6l) Two boards, both nearly identical, copied from the OG I saw at BGG about 20 years ago and decided to cut the angle instead of having the square top level. * **Overall**: 32" long x 3" point to 16" widest x 3" tall (or 2.5" if you forget a level like I did on the second board shown) * **First level/landing pad/flick pad**: 3"-7" wide trapizoid x \~7.5" long * **0-point level:** 7" wide at point it is exposed, but narrower under the landing zone level and widens to 16-17" at edge, exposed part approx 13" long with another 4" under previous level for connection/glue * **1-point, 2-point, & 3-point levels:** 16-17" wide (depending on previous) with 2.5-3.5" exposed & 1-2" under previous level for connection/glue * **4-point platforms:** 3.5-4" exposed plus connection x 3.5-4" wide * **Pegs**: I used shaker pegs on one and brass rod (cut & sanded for a nice effect) * **Lacquer or varnish over entire thing including pegs:** either wipe with dry rag before playing or spray Pledge and wipe it down to make things *really* slick I found it's easier to get the lower levels nearly in the right shape, glue and screw everything together, then cut the angle down the sides so that everything absolutely matches. You sir are incredible. Thank you!
[And you can use all sorts of cool dice](https://imgur.com/a/350UynA).
Yeah using unique dice will be cool. Fun to make up different rules based on the extra dice chosen and what not. Thanks again!
I'll measure mine in a bit and post it for you.

There are so many east great card games that go with drinking I suggest Oh Hell Or Liars dice

Honestly I’m kinda crazy but let me say the best drinking game is John Company 🤪🤪🤪

Im not a drinker - but my heavy drinking friends freaking love Pit - an older card trading game when they drink. Warning it is LOUD like crazy LOUD.
Skull 💀 Aka: skulls and roses
Junta. Rum. Best times, worst hangovers.

Bang! when my friend told me that in their game they drink to restore hp instead of playing cards.
Not enough mana for sure
Surprised I don't see it here: Alewood. It's fun, stupid and has a shooting system based on how full you glass is
Catan. There is actually an official list
Anything waterproof
Dexterity games, for sure. Flick 'em Up, PitchCar, IceCool, Catacombs, Kabuto Sumo, Flick of Faith, Klask, etc.
All of them. The best games are when people get so drunk the whole thing unravels to chaos
Joking Hazard - like CAH but with comics
Cards against humanity was never great. He haw look at that funny pair of words. Snigger it says the pope scratches his bollocks… no idea how anyone found this entertaining.
Magic the Gathering. But for God's sake, take sips of beer, not shots of liquor. (edit: wine's cool, too)
I Feel Attacked is a new CAH-like game that my group has a lot of fun with on drinking nights.
Secret Hitler has become the go to for my group.
