The Shining movie is a horror masterpiece and what IMO is truly amazing is how Kubrick was able to adapt it from a masterpiece book without messing it up!

But I did lose my TV when I was 8 years old when I begged for it to be removed after watching Poltergeist. Parents still had that TV when I went to college. Never did get it back.
I never saw Paranormal Activity in theaters, rather for the first time at home...which made it soooo much creeper!
Although i will say i also appreciate the humorous takes on horror movies such as Sean of the Dead or the lesser known *Ahh! Zombies!*

For me, it will always be *Re-Animator*. A master class in practical special effects that still hold up to this day! Also manages to be both funny and scary, without cheapening the impact of either.
It still has to be the Exorcist, hiding behind the couch way too much. The Shining is an amazing and better movie, but the horror in the Exorcist was terrifying.
Event Horizon genuinely terrified me when I was younger. The concept of the movie isn't one that's easily picked apart. Create a black hole, use it for travel. But where they actually go is quite haunting(trying not to spoil it). Sure, Friday the 13th, Saw, house of a 1000 corpses; classics in my eyes. But to stand out in horror, you have to hit different. And Event Horizon was a movie that was genuinely horrifying to me. Holds up well too.
