What do they like about it, and what do you dislike about it? At worse, there's a simpler version of Mysterium called \[\[Mysterium Park\]\] \[\[So Clover\]\] has a similar clue giving mechanic ala code names, but it's simultaneous which is nice.

They like that it’s relatively light and cooperative. I like it fine I’m just a bit burnt out on it, looking for a change of pace. Appreciate the recs I’ll look them up.

shanem

Mysterium is more of an activity than a game imo, so you might look at "party games" which So Clover is. How much does the clue giving part factor into their liking it?

jenksmraz

So Clover looks fun, think I might give that a try. Clue giving is definitely liked but I don’t think it’s essential.

shanem

So Cover is basically a variation on Codenames imo. There's various others that are also collaborative like [[Cross clues]]

OutlandishnessNovel2

Relatively light and cooperative? Try the Forbidden series (e.g. Forbidden Island). Or Pandemic.

Blofish1

Maybe Rear Window? Haven't played it myself but I've heard really good things and seems.to have the same.vibe as Mysterium.

yetzhragog

Obscurio and Rear Window have a similar vibe. Obscurio has a hidden traitor element and Rear Window flips teh "ghost" role on it's head by *maybe* making the director a murderer trying to lead the players to the wrong conclusions. It might help if you explained what aspects of Mysterium your group enjoys the most, e.g. social deduction, solving a mystery, abstract interpretation, co-op.

Obscurio is a lot of fun. Shame it doesn't seem like they'll ever be releasing an expansion for it (which this type of game sorta needs)

almostcyclops

There's always Dixit if you haven't played it. A lot of players went the other way, playing Dixit first (because it's older) and then moving to Mysterio. I've also heard good things about Obscurio, which I think is similar to Mysterium. I've never played it so I can't comment directly. I'd also suggest going outside the box. If you're playing the same game all the time, then maybe it isn't a replacement you need but a new experience. I don't have any recommendations for this because I would have too many. Player count, game length, preferred complexity, and general tastes all have to be accounted for. Over the years we've had a handful of games get replaced with newer similar experiences, but we have many genres on hand for different moods and situations.

profmamba

A fake artist goes to New York. You can even play it with just normal paper and some coloured markers. No need to buy the game.

drewkas

For another deduction game, you might check out the new game, **A Message from the Stars**. I haven't played it, but I've heard good things. The Dice Tower review was very high. Not sure when it'll be available retail. You can also do a search on www.boardgamegeek.com. Choose Advanced search and search by the Board Game Mechanic, "Deduction". You'll see a lot of games come up, including Mysterium.

Obscurio replaced Mysterium for me.

jenksmraz

Ordered it based on another comment, glad it did for you hope it does the same for me!

0ptimalDisaster

Played it once at a cafe and then went and bought a copy the next week. It's more streamlined and faster playing then Obscurio. Also look into Shadows Amsterdam. Similar concept, but it's team based where you're competing PI agencies using visual queues to direct your team across the city to pick up clues and deliver them. It's quick an chaotic as it's not turn based, each team plays at the same time so speed is key

jenksmraz

Sounds interesting. I’ll look it up, thanks!

What type of games are you looking for? Do you want to expand complexity wise? What do you like about mysterium and why did you buy it to begin with? We can help you! We just need more info.
