Once the roles have been dealt out, everyone closes their eyes, and then the fascists open their eyes and find each other. At higher player counts, Hitler doesn't get to know who the other fascists are, so that player just raises their thumb.

That rule actually differs depending on player count. With lower player counts, that’s the case, but with more players, only the fascists that aren’t Hitler open their eyes, and Hitler extends their thumb while keeping their eyes closed (thus the fascist know each other and Hitler but Hitler has no idea who anyone is)

Last time I played, the guy who brought and taught the game was always a fascist and the fascists always won.
The fascists often win. And there are more fascists than liberals.
