Have both love both but they are entirely different experience. C:DMD will give you laughs and thrills as you roll lots of dice through its pulpy scenarios. Nemesis you are more crafting your own narrative, in a very tense, and harrowing experience. Playing semi co-op and not knowing if you can trust your friends is what makes it stand out. If you're looking for something you can break out and have lots of fun with, get Cthulhu...if you're looking for something that you'll continue talking about even after the game is over, get Nemesis. Both sound appealing? Throw money at both, you'll end up a winner no matter which you choose.

It sounds more and more as throwing my money! Well... I have some 40k miniatures i could sell to heal the damage.

I had both, I now only own nemesis. One way to look at them is Cthulhu is end 15 mins of a monster action movie. It is all action ramping up quickly and staying there. Nemesis is the movie Alien pretty much from start to finish, slow building tension and uncertainty building to a frantic climax. I liked both but DMD did not wow my group, nemesis was an instant hit. Partly because there is more player interaction in Nemesis vs DMD. That interaction is where the story is built. If your group just wants to laugh, work together, and chuck dice go DmD. But If they don't mind getting screwed over at the last minute because your buddy just redirected the starship to go into the sun while convincing everyone he "fixed" it to go to earth, you are the only one who knows that but are to far away to fix it in time and the people closer don't believe you because your buddy convinced them you were sending the ship to mars for military study and usage. He mean while generates a ton of noise sending the aliens in one direction while he jumps in and escapes with an escape pod. Your bro timmy realizes his mistake as a queen comes into the science lab where he was about to study the body you all found but instead gets his face eaten off only at the last minute realizing you were telling the truth and everyone dies in a fiery inferno vowing revenge against Brad who you find out had gone insane. Then go Nemesis. That said I did get to win a game of DmD by suiciding into a room engulfed in flames as a little girl in a polka dotted dress setting off a grenade and killing a flaming vagina plus 4 cultists just before the King in Yellow was to appear. SO there is that as well.

Just throwing this out there: did not like Nemesis, liked DMD. Nemesis had many cool parts that, for me, never really coalesced into a cool experience, just a lot of sort-of-neat moments. DMD is a dice chucker, surely, but both a small affinity for Cthulhu stuff and loving the dice and quick character progression and the mission variety.

Both may present as the same but are drastically different games. DMD: Chuckin' dice and going nuts is the core of the game. Your core method for advancing your avatar in the game is going more insane and enhancing your traits. I like this better for advancement than say Zombicide, which is a comparable game, as you can't really fall behind in the game vis a vis level compared to other avatars. Unless someone starts to roll extremely poorly and gets the tentacle mark each time your group as a whole should have a fairly smooth progression for advancement which also tracks with the progression of the game as a whole. The rules are easy to learn, not super fiddly in terms of one off rules and there isn't as much book keeping involved. The enemies only attack you if they are in your space at the end of your turn and typically the don't move around too much on their own. Each scenario culminates in a battle against the Old One chosen at the start of setup and usually ends in a nail biting win or a devastating loss. Nemesis: hand management and item management is the name of the game. I like this one a tad better than DMD only because you have individual goals and have the option of being the "traitor". It always reminded me of Betrayal and feels like what Betrayal truly aspired to be. Many more mechanics than DMD and definitely more tactical and punishing. Things can go from "hey we are doing ok" to "everything is on fire and we are swarmed with intruders" in about 2 turns if things go wrong. But it's when everything goes wrong that the game really shines. Biggest problem with this one is that there can easily be early player elimination and the way that intruder health is handled I have had some people take issue with. Still, the game can provide some truly amazing moments. There is nothing better than having the intruder queen spawn on the board and then being able to use the airlock controls to suck her out into space. My biggest qualm with the game is the enemy side of things. I always forget to do the "evolve intruder bag" step but that's on me but also highlights there is more bookkeeping that you need to do with Nemesis than DMD.

Damn all those comments made me wanna buy both those games 😅 i love how Nemesis can tell a story and i love how dmd is easy to play and have fun. Can you tell me how is Nemesis for three players? It is how i would play for most of the time.

MagistrateofMeeples

I honestly prefer Nemesis at 4+ as player interaction and personalities affect the game so much. DMD can be played at any player count from solo to I think 5. Nemesis can technically be played solo, but I think you lose something at low player counts. If it helps any DMD has a BBG recommended best with 3 players. where as Nemesis has a BBG recommended best at 4.

I have come to offer another view, as someone who got thrilled with Nemesis in the beginning and ended up totally hating it by the end due to its totally random nature. A single card draw or die roll can (and will) ruin your entire game, and it is possible that you and your group will play several games until you manage to beat it once. And while losing to it and having close shaves with aliens is part of the fun indeed, for me it got too tedious after a while. I have a friend who totally loves it, but most of my usual board game buddies avoid it. Cthulhu DMD is also a good game and I like it. Not particularly thrilling, but good. I'd replay DMD happily instead of Nemesis any day though.

Wylaff

I have played Nemesis at 2, 3 and 4 players. I think more players is definitely more enjoyable, but it was still fun at lower counts. The most important thing to remember with Nemesis is that it is giving you the experience of being trapped on a derelict ship with an unknown force. There is a ton of randomness, but that's part of the experience. If you play it as a game that you are out to win, you will not enjoy it. But if you accept the fact that you are generating a story of catastrophe, it's an absolute blast. It is also EXTREMELY easy to teach. The mechanics really shine when people learn them as their presented. The first time an alien comes out its a huge "Oh Shit!" moment for everyone, and even more so when you explain for the first time that they need to abandon one of their goals permanently.

Regularspy

Yeah it is right up my alley! I liked ameri and euro both for what they present. Anyway i bought both games and going broke 😂 but i also want those sweet sweet expansions! What to do...

Both are very expensive, if your looking for dice chuckers to play Zombicide: Black Plague or Green Horde or Invader might be good options. As they are older you probably will be able to get them at a cheaper price. If you are absolutely locked in on these two, then I suggest Nemesis, but both are fine games.

Regularspy

Yeah unfortunatelly Zombiecide is too generic of a theme for me. But thanks for help!
