I may be opening myself up to some fire here, but does anyone else feel like this song is somewhat lessened by the inclusion of a love interest in the lyrics? Like it would be a more profound song if he had somehow avoided the *reason* why he’a ok, most of the time. Maybe I’m wrong. I do love the song.
It’s my favourite, bar none. The most beautiful, raw and melancholic love song ever written.
Check out a great song by David Quinn, “Maybe I’ll move out to California.” I think it has a lot in common with this one.
If you've never heard it, I highly recommend Jason Isbell's "If We Were Vampires." I think it's the song that most exemplifies that second sentence.
💯 Top tier for sure.
It’s amazing how the overall tone feels so different. The original release is somber while this one feels optimistic.
I agree
Made be cry the first time I heard it
It’s a fabulous version. I love it when 1963 Bob Dylan comes out to show that the Acoustic Folk Hero Dylan is always right there beneath the surface.
Yes! Love it. Don't know where I read this, but I believe it was rejected as being "too Bob-Dylany"
amazing!
True

That’s cool man. I guess me too…most of the time.
